Collaboration involves combining the expertise and resources of both parties to improve technology services in the library. Without collaboration and cooperation with expert institutions in the field of information technology, obstacles can occur and hinder the delivery of the roles and functions of library institutions. The research aims to investigate the benefits, challenges, and solutions as well as analyze the success factors of collaboration on information technology services between the Library and PTIPD UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung as a form of internal cooperation. This research uses descriptive qualitative method through data collection using observation, interview, and literature study techniques. The findings show that with good collaboration between information institutions, the user community will be able to enjoy better, useful, and affordable access to information technology. Even so, the results show that there are programs that have not been implemented from this collaboration. Indicators of the success of collaboration show that program activities need to be developed and implemented so that information technology services in libraries can improve. Thus, through collaboration, the library can provide more adequate infrastructure facilities to users.

Planning public green spaces within customary land tenure contexts: Reflections on the limits to collaborative planning in Tamale, Ghana

ABSTRACT Public green space management has received increased academic and policy interest globally as an urban sustainability strategy. Nonetheless, when planning public green spaces, technocratic planning approaches though important, are not sufficient for sustainable green space management. Thus, understanding the institutional context within which public green spaces are developed to promote collaborative green space governance is imperative. Based on a qualitative case study of Tamale, this paper unpacks the barriers that hinder collaborative action for public green space development. We argue that for public green spaces to be adequately provided and well managed in Tamale, specific collaboration success factors, including building trust, shared interest, capacity building and a comprehensive policy framework need to be created. Such an enabling environment is required to facilitate the development of principled engagement, shared motivation and institutional capacity for joint action. By conceptualizing the study within broader collaborative governance debates, the study contributes to contemporary urban management practice by providing a nuanced analysis of the barriers to collaborative green space planning in cities under intense urbanization pressure. Such knowledge is critical to unpacking the complexity associated with planning and managing public green spaces and sustainable cities in dual land administration regimes in sub-Saharan Africa contexts.

Horizontal logistics collaboration success factors: expectations versus reality

PurposeThis study aims to compare the expectations of non-collaborating professionals and the actual opinions of collaborating professionals regarding success factors of horizontal logistics collaboration (HLC) and investigates the reasons behind the observed differences.Design/methodology/approachThis study employs a mixed-method approach. First, a survey is conducted to collect data from two samples representing collaborating and non-collaborating industry professionals. Second, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) is used to compare the measurement models from the two samples and identify their similarities and differences. Third, a Delphi study is conducted to identify factors limiting collaborative behavior.FindingsThe results show that collaborating professionals exhibit lower levels of joint relationship efforts and trust than expected. This is primarily due to inadequate information sharing, poor collaboration formalization and the absence of a clear costs and benefits allocation mechanism.Practical implicationsThe findings indicate that, in HLC, managers should give high importance to facilitating timely and complete information exchange, putting in place an acceptable costs/benefits allocation mechanism, formalizing the collaboration and prioritizing integrity over competency when selecting partners.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study that shows the existence of differences between industry professionals' pre-collaboration expectations and the actual experiences in HLC. This is also the first study that points to the exact HLC enablers that fail in practice and the barriers responsible for it.

Understanding Factors That Support Well-Functioning Community Coalitions

Coalitions are central to Extension's community-based programs. To assess characteristics that support well-functioning coalitions and to support coalitions in which Extension stakeholders participate, we used the Wilder Collaboration Factors Inventory to assess 10 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education coalitions on the basis of research-tested collaboration success factors. Overall, the 103 coalition members who responded reported strengths related to communication and shared purpose and weaknesses in the areas of resources and process and structure for achieving the coalitions' aims. Our project represents a low-burden method for assessing Extension coalitions to understand the characteristics that are likely to support the achievement of collective goals.

An “Organizational Triangle” to Coordinate Talent Development: A Case Study in Danish Swimming

This case study in Danish swimming was informed by a holistic ecological approach in talent development and aimed to explore (a) collaborative relationships between the Danish swimming federation, a municipality, and a local swimming club, termed “an organizational triangle,” and (b) factors influencing the success of their collaboration at the local level. Data collection and analysis were guided by the athletic-talent-development-environment (working) model and a newly developed collaboration-success-factors (CSF) model. Methods included interviews with talent-development coordinators representing the organizations and analysis of documents. Results allowed the authors to transform the CSF (working) model into an empirical model containing the collaboration preconditions (e.g., power to make decisions), processes (e.g., strategic planning), and initiatives (e.g., efficient use of the swimming pool) and shared assumptions of the talent-development philosophy (e.g., long-term focus). The success of this organizational triangle was visible in the way the organizations increased the quality of talent development in the local swimming club.

Typology and Success Factors of Collaboration for Sustainable Growth in the IT Service Industry

Recently, innovative changes in information technology (IT) trends, such as cloud computing and deep learning, have led IT companies to focus on collaboration for sustainable growth. This paper investigates collaboration strategies and success factors for IT service companies via a survey-based empirical study of Korean leading IT firms. Four types of collaboration were identified by considering the types of customer relationship and the target market: offshore, joint venture, collaboration with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and partnership with major local firms. Then, based on a Plan-Do-See management activity process, this paper considers success factors in the planning process and collaboration process, and analyzes an impact of these factors on collaboration performance such as financial performance, process innovation, improving competitiveness, and technology acquisition. As a result, the success factors differ according to the types of performance measures as well as the collaboration types. In particular, the characteristics of partners positively influence competitiveness in captive and global markets, while they improve process innovation in open and domestic markets. This study attempts to provide insight for companies in the IT service industry about how collaboration activities could enhance performance, depending on the alliance types.

Success Factors of Collaboration in Islamic Banks

This paper aims to explore how Islamic banks form collaborations with other organizations and the factors which affect the success of these collaborations. Literature suggests that communication process, leadership, identity loss, diversity, collaboration cost, and organizational capacity affect these collaborations. The phenomenon is further explored by three in-depth interviews from Islamic bankers in Peshawar, Pakistan. A broader framework is developed which first explains how an Islamic bank comes in collaboration with other organizations. Second, theoretically and empirically found success factors are outlined. The contextually-identified new factors are the prohibitions in Islamic finance and regulations of State Bank of Pakistan and Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan which force Islamic banks to collaborate

'I have a chameleon-like existence': A duoethnographic account of border crossing by two academic development practitioners

The practice of situating academic development practitioners within faculties poses challenges for practitioners from outside the particular discipline. Literature highlights how discourse and culture create tensions amongst role-players in cross-disciplinary contexts. This duoethnographic account examines the experiences of two practitioners as insider-outsiders in a health sciences disciplinary space. Duoethnography is a collaborative methodology where researchers, in dialogue, critique the meanings they give to social and epistemological constructs. Drawing on border crossing as theoretical lens, the study signals how the insider-outsider location might be mediated to support quality teaching. Border crossing highlights the construct of frontiers and associated identity work. The study identified critical success factors for collaboration – physical presence over time; knowing what is valued; an established identity as scholar and competent practitioner; a community of practice; recognition and an acknowledgement by faculty management; and personal flexibility, sensitivity, approachability and willingness to change.

Critical success factors for mutual collaboration with suppliers in IT outsourcing industry: a case study of a top IT outsourcing company in Korea

ABSTRACTNowadays, information technology (IT) outsourcing companies face enduring demands to reduce cost while increasing productivity. This pressure leads many IT outsourcing companies to rely on outsourcing arrangements with IT personnel suppliers. In order to maximise efficiency, outsourcing companies have focused on fostering high-performing suppliers through improved collaboration and mutual relations. However, it is very difficult to advance to a long-term partnership using the existing outsourcing process because of insufficient collaboration between IT outsourcing companies and their suppliers. Based on collaboration perspective of supply chain management (SCM), this study identifies the critical success factors for collaborative strategic partnerships and presents an evaluation framework for assessing and managing suppliers. We have developed an organisational process model for Supplier relationship management (SRM)-based collaboration which includes some of the key constructs from the previous studies and interviews with the IT outsourcing industry people. In this study, we will identify four types of strategic suppliers and suggest approaches for improving collaborative relationship between an IT outsourcing company and its partner companies. In addition, to validate the feasibility of the proposed model, we applied it to a well-known Korean IT outsourcing company ‘A’.

Value Creation in Inter-Organizational Collaboration: An Empirical Study

Over the last decade, businesses, policymakers, and researchers alike have advocated the need for (and potential of) value creation through inter-organizational collaboration. Researchers have widely argued that organizations that are engaged in collaborative processes create value. Because researchers have tended to focus on the identification of organizational motivations and on key success factors for collaboration, however, both the nature and processes of value creation in inter-organizational collaboration have yet to be examined. A recent theory by Austin and Seitanidi (Nonprofit Volunt Sect Q 41(5):726–758, 2012a; Nonprofit Volunt Sect Q 41(6):929–968, 2012b) has proposed an analytical framework for analyzing value creation in inter-organizational collaboration, based on four types of value. The purpose of this current study is to empirically test this framework, and to provide key pointers for analyzing the nature of value, particularly in relation to learning. Our detailed empirical research is based on a 6-year retrospective case study of an inter-organizational partnership within an international development project for local economic development in Guatemala. The study’s contributions are twofold. First, it provides evidence of the critical path of the creation of diverse types of values in a collaborative process; second, it links the different types of value creation with the types of learning that occur in an inter-organizational process.

Towards a Model for International Collaboration and Partnerships in Teacher Education in Africa: Education for Sustainable Development in South Africa

ABSTRACTEducation for sustainable development allows all to acquire the skills, attitudes, knowledge and values essential for a sustainable future. This article argues that there is an urgent need to include sustainable development aspects in teaching and learning at all levels of education. Implementing Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) poses a new challenge for teachers and teacher educators. The role of international collaboration, partnerships and networking is increasingly becoming important in creating sustainable solutions towards green economies and programmes. The post-2015 global agenda for sustainable development should recognise the need for regional and international collaborations in forging lasting strategies for a sustainable future where education for all is relevant, reliable and accessible.This article proposes a model for collaboration based on analyses conducted on a project on education for sustainable development programme involving key success factors for collaboration and focussing on the local and global stakeholders and their role in enhancing ESD among teachers. For this purpose, the four partner countries: South Africa, India, Mexico and India were examined to understand how ESD is implemented; how experiences are shared; and best practices incorporated into the programme. Local and global experts (ESD-Expert-net members) who developed an international core curriculum for teachers were involved. From the pilot, four country programmes, a conceptual model of seven levels of collaboration and partnerships for education for sustainable development to enhance teacher development among local and international partners was developed. This model is proposed to serve as a framework for education for sustainable development implementation in multinational collaborations and is discussed in relation to the post-2015 sustainable development perspective.

Evaluating university–industry collaboration: the European Foundation of Quality Management excellence model-based evaluation of university–industry collaboration

The growth in university–industry collaboration has resulted in an increasing demand for methods to evaluate it. This paper presents one way to evaluate an organization’s collaborative activities based on the European Foundation of Quality Management excellence model. Success factors of collaboration are derived from literature and compared against the quality award criteria. Tailored evaluation criteria are proposed based on the analysis, and piloted by evaluating a biosciences research umbrella organization. The results show that success factors of university–industry collaboration can be addressed by using the model-based evaluation criteria. The results of the study can potentially be used by actors on both sides of university–industry collaboration to evaluate their organization’s collaboration capabilities and performance.

전사적 보안협업을 위한 핵심성공요인에 관한 연구

전사적 보안을 위한 요구사항은 점차 커지고 있는 반면, 이를 구현하기 위한 수단 중 하나인 보안협업에 대한 연구는 매우 미흡하다. 따라서 본 논문은 보안협업에 대한 개념 정립을 통해 보안협업의 유형을 분석하고, 효과적 보안협업 수행을 위한 핵심 성공요인들을 파악하고자 한다. 이를 위해 조직관리 분야에서의 기존 연구를 조사 분석하여 보안협업 모델을 정립하였고, 협업에 영향을 미치는 요인 및 보안특성을 반영하여 협업 인력, 협업 프로세스, 협업 환경 등 세 영역에서 여덟 개의 변수를 도출하였다. 본 연구는 경력 3년 이상 보안 및 IT 전문가 106명의 데이터를 수집, PLS-SEM를 사용하여 검증을 하였다. 본 연구의 결과로는 협업 구성원의 신뢰성, 전문성, 참여 동기와 협업 성과기준, 최고경영자의 의지, 협업지원도구 등이 보안협업에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 나타났다. Although the requirement of enterprise security implementation has been raised, a few research on security collaboration, which is one of the methods for enterprise security has been performed. This paper approached information security from the collaboration-centric perspective and propose critical success factors for security collaboration. In this study, a model of security collaboration, which includes coordination and cooperation activities was devised. Based on the previous research on organizational collaboration literature, the eight success factors for collaboration were deduced and examined the significance of the eight factors using the PLS-SEM statistical method with data of 106 samples who are security and IT professionals who have worked for more than 7 years. The result of the hypothesis test supported that trust, expertise motivation, collaboration performance criteria, top manager support and collaboration tools are the prominent factors of security collaboration.

Boundary Spanning in Interorganizational Collaboration

This article reviews the experience of an interorganizational collaboration among five small NGOs coworking as a consortium in Hong Kong. While earlier discussions identified the success factors of collaboration, this article extends the discussion on boundary-spanning processes of managing those complex and delicate inter-personal and organizational relationships.

A Study on Perspectives of the National Assembly Larchiveum: Focused on Discussion about Collaborative Strategies of Memory Institutions

The National Assembly and its institutions have heavy duties to the nation. Knowledge and information resources which they produce, manage and preserve are part of history and evidence of democracy. Therefore, activities for systematic management and long-term preservation of the resources are important tasks at a national level. However, organizational status of the institutions, which are in charge of management and preservation of the resource, are not in accord with their responsibilities. In this context, this study aims at analyzing necessary and sufficient conditions for establishing the National Assembly Larchiveum and at exploring possible strategies. The study conducts literature reviews concerning necessities, procedures, and success factors of collaboration. Futhermore it analyzes various cases and divides them into several types based on collaborative levels and geographical categories. Based on these theoretical discourse the study discuss the history of the National Assembly's memory institutions and obstacles to their collaboration. As a result, it provides alternative strategies for establishing the National Assembly Larchiveum.

Product convergence perspective on collaboration success factors

Convergence represents an important trend in today’s business environment and calls for system-wide perspective on interactions between technology, product, and strategy and operations management. In relation to the information and communications technology industry, technological innovations and changes in consumer preferences have led technologies and product features to partially merge. Two types of product-based industry convergence are identified in the literature: product substitution and product complementarity. To adapt to new business conditions, companies need to collaborate to get access to new competencies and knowledge for converged product development. This paper, using personal interviews as the research method, contributes to the existing body of knowledge on convergence and intercompany collaboration from an operational management level point of view by determining and comparing the main success factors needed for partnering under product convergence types. The differentiating factors are product features, relative product advantages for the customer and determining the company position in the industry value network.

How teams in networked organisations develop collaborative capability: processes, critical incidents and success factors

In this article, we present a study on collaborative capability of teams in three networked organisations in Austria and Switzerland. So far, collaborative capability has mostly been conceptualised on an organisational or individual level as a set of attributes that actors employ to collaborate successfully. We found that this view of collaborative capability needs to be enlarged. Collaborative capability of teams is characterised by at least two components: an attribute-based perspective that focuses on capabilities of single actors or organisations, and a perspective on group dynamics which describes how teams successfully develop collaborative capability. We examined collaborative work processes and task requirements and the way critical incidents in different project stages influenced the development of collaboration. We discuss our findings with regard to the different organisational settings of the networks analysed and the current literature on collaborative capability and networked organisations. Moreover, we identify six critical success factors for collaboration and discuss the role of network management in co-innovation.
