Purpose: Although depression is widely recognized as a significant clinical problem in patients with AD, little is known about possible types of depression in these patients. The purpose of this study was to determine whether subtypes of depressive symptoms could be empirically identified in patients with AD. Method: All patients assessed at an outpatient memory disorders clinic were administered the Cornell Scale for Depression in Dementia (Alexopoulos et al., 1988) as part of a multidisciplinary assessment.
