The relevance of this study is determined by the fact that in Russian Indology, the theme of life and death, revealed in the works of Hindi writers Agyei "Strangers to Themselves" and Krishna Sobati "Hey, Girl", had not been considered before. The purpose of the article is to consider an approach to understanding the nature of God, life and death using the example of these two novels, which are vivid examples of Indian modernism. The subject of the article are these two novels – "Strangers to themselves", the author of which – Agyei – is considered the founder of the literary direction of experimentalism, and "Hey, Girl", written by Krishna Sobati, a representative of the direction of "women's writing". The main method of the article is the method of comparative analysis, which allows us to consider works of fiction in relation to the works of other writers, with other literatures and philosophical concepts. The main characters of Agyei are lonely people who oppose a conservative society and feel excluded from the common world. Krishna Sobati's characters may be perceived as marginal personalities, but they strive to overcome their marginality. The work of these Hindi writers combines Western and Indian approaches to understanding and depicting the world in which their characters live. These works are close compositionally, in creating images of the main characters and in forming narrative elements. Agyei and Krishna Sobati achieve almost the opposite result, describing their characters on the verge between life and death, in search of God and in an effort to know the meaning of their existence.
