The paper deals with the problem of developing the interest in the classical music among children who attend music schools and schools of arts against a background of the social and cultural situation in a country. It is strange that former music school students do not like classical music and often lose their interest in it after graduation. Besides, a great number of students drop out of music schools. The author assumes that the reason for it is an inappropriate approach to teaching and proposes focusing on the meaning and the artistic image of the piece of music in every class. This method is popular with the professors of music in conservatories and music academies while music school teachers ignore it, especially when teaching students who are not to be the professional musicians. At the same time, this method helps students develop the keen interest in music classes and classical music as a whole because it generates the emotional response to the musical compositions performed by them.
