THE USE OF COOPERATIVE INTEGRATED READING AND COMPOSITION (CIRC) LEARNING MODEL ON THE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION IN LEARNING ENGLISH

This study aims to see the application of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning model to students' reading comprehension in learning English. This study used a pre-experimental method. Data collection techniques were carried out through pre-test and post-test. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 13 Makassar, with the population being class VIII students at SMP Negeri 13 Makassar. The results of this study indicated that for the main idea the average pre-test score of students before being treated with reading comprehension is 5.92 and the average post-test score of students after being treated with reading comprehension is 8.08. The significance of the main idea between the pre-test and post-test was 36.48%. Meanwhile, for the conclusion, the average pre-test score of students before being treated with reading comprehension was 5.6 and the average post-test score of students after being treated with reading comprehension was 8.32. The significance of the main idea between the pre-test and post-test was 48.57%. The results of data analysis showed that the increase in students' reading ability after being treated using the CIRC learning media increased the results quite significantly. = 0.05 with degrees of freedom (df) = 24 which shows the t-test value of 13.55 and t-table = 2.640. Based on the results of the post-test data obtained as the final result, this study provides a fairly good improvement. Finally, it can be concluded that the use of CIRC learning media is able to give a good influence in learning English, especially on reading comprehension.

Online Quantitative Literacy-Based Biology Learning towards Students' Self-Efficacy

Quantitative literacy is an important skill for biology students. During COVID-19, students had to adapt to several changes, including shifting from offline to online classes. However, not all biology content can be taught easily, especially online. Therefore, students need self-efficacy abilities. Self-efficacy was important for students to be able to make a plan for their learning. This research aimed to describe students’ self-efficacy to continue their online biology learning during COVID-19, based on their quantitative literacy skills. This study used 20-item questionnaires with four choices of statements. The biology topic chosen was plant anatomy. This research measured the score of 82 first-year college students’ self-efficacy from three aspects - magnitude, strength, and generality. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to measure the mean, the highest, and the lowest students’ self-efficacy scores. The result showed that the average score of students’ self-efficacy was 2.72, which means students’ self-efficacy was in the moderate category. All three aspects were also in the moderate category, with the strength aspect score being the highest at 2.76 and the magnitude aspect score being the lowest at 2.66. Based on the number of participants’ level of self-efficacy, 3% of students were in the high category, 96% were in the moderate category, and 1% were in the low category. The result showed that most of the students in this research have a moderate level of self-efficacy in online biology learning, based on quantitative literacy. This means that most of the students still must develop their self-efficacy skills to learn online quantitative lessons in biology successfully. The results also suggested that it is essential to teach students how to manage their learning behavior through the development of self-efficacy to succeed in online quantitative lessons in biology learning in the future. Improving Mathematics Reasoning Ability of Junior High School Students Using the Learning Star with a Questions Model

This study examines the differences in increasing mathematical reasoning abilities using the Learning start with a question learning model and conventional learning. The research method is quantitative by way of experimental pretest-posttest control group design, which extends the one-group pretest-posttest design in two ways: a second group is added, called the comparison or control group; samples were placed randomly in each group of 83 people. The instrument used is an essay test; the questions are set in the form of mathematical reasoning abilities. Data were analyzed using inferential statistics with an independent sample t-test. The research results obtained are: The application of the LSQ learning model, most students, can solve mathematical reasoning questions correctly. The average score of students who follow the LSQ learning model is higher than the average value of students who take conventional learning; The results of the t-test explained that students who studied using the LSQ model and students who used conventional learning had significantly different improvements in their mathematical reasoning abilities. Students who learn to use the LSQ model increase their reasoning abilities more than the students who study using the conventional model. The Frayer Model Effectiveness in The Arabic Vocabulary Development for Students in Madrasah

This study aims to improve the vocabulary mastery of grade XI students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 11 Jakarta through the Frayer model learning strategy. This type of research is classroom action research, which has four components proposed by Kurt Lewin: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques are done through tests (pretest and posttest), direct observation, interviews, and documentation with data sources from learners, Arabic teachers, and collaborators. In contrast, the data processing method includes data selection and classification, presentation, data processing, and conclusion. Based on learning outcomes, the recapitulation of the average score of students in the first cycle was 70,68 (40% who achieved the Minimum Completeness Criteria). Therefore, researchers continue the second cycle. In cycle II, the average score of students was 77 (86% exceeded the Minimum Completeness Criteria). Based on the results of cycle I and II data, it can be concluded that using Frayer model learning strategies effectively increases students' value in learning vocabulary in madrasah. Thus, using the Frayer model in developing Arabic vocabulary for madrasa students has broad implications, including improving vocabulary understanding, developing critical thinking skills, increasing learning independence, and providing diverse learning approaches.

Slovenian midwifery students and their self-estimation of mindfulness: A cross-sectional study with modified MAAS.

We investigate the level of mindfulness among midwifery students, as mindfulness can have a major impact on their perception of stress and can increase the quality of their work after graduation. A causal, non-experimental method of a cross-sectional study was used. We collected data using an online questionnaire that included a valid modified Mindful Attention Awareness Scale - MAAS. The sample consisted of Slovenian midwifery students in academic year 2022-2023. Fifty-five Slovenian midwifery students (82% response rate) participated in the study. The average score of all midwifery students on the 5-Likert modified MAAS was 3.2, with the lowest average score among second-year students. Those students who practiced mindfulness techniques in their free time had higher average scores than those who did not. The average MAAS score of our midwifery students was lower than in other foreign studies among nursing students. The study program should promote student mindfulness. This would benefit the graduates also later, when employed, as investing in midwives' well-being improves both their job satisfaction and women's experience of care. The Slovenian curriculum is often perceived as overwhelming by students. This might be the reason for their low mindfulness scores. Further analysis of the curriculum is needed to find solutions on how to integrate mindfulness techniques into the undergraduate curriculum.

Non-prescribed Ritalin use among medical students and its association with depression: A study in Iran

BackgroundMethylphenidate, a nervous system stimulant, is the active ingredient in the brand-name medication Ritalin. The non-medical consumption of this drug is on the rise worldwide, particularly among medical students who belong to an at-risk group. However, misusing this drug can have adverse effects such as depression. In this study, we sought to evaluate the relationship between arbitrary use of Ritalin and the incidence of depression and explore associated factors. MethodsIn this descriptive cross-sectional study, we examined 100 medical students enrolled at (XXX) Medical School (XXX) who reported taking at least one dose of Ritalin in the past month. We gathered participant data, including demographics such as age, education, residence status, history of psychiatric illness, and history of psychiatric medication use. Additionally, we collected information related to depression and anxiety using a questionnaire design based on the Hamilton scoring system in which a score range of 10–13 indicates mild depression, a score range of 14–17 signifies mild to moderate depression, and a score exceeding 17 indicates moderate to severe depression. ResultsSeveral noteworthy findings emerged from our study. We observed that the average age of female (26.45 ± 4.55, n = 39) participants was significantly higher than that of their male (24.26 ± 3.71, n = 61) counterparts (p = 0.01). Moreover, the average final depression score for students was determined to be 18.19, with a median score of 16. The data analysis revealed that 45% of students exhibited moderate to severe depression, whereas 55% experienced either no depression or only mild symptoms. ConclusionsOur study indicates that depression is indeed a significant side effect of Ritalin use among medical students.

SAVI-based animated video for seismic material

Learning media supports effective and efficient learning. Meanwhile, seismic learning is deemed as a challenging geography course, thereby, requiring animated video as a medium to visualize abstract concepts into concrete ones. Thus, this study formulates animated learning videos using the SAVI approach for seismic material. It also assesses the effect of animated video media on student learning outcomes. The animation video was constructed using the ADDIE research model and tried out in a pre-experimental pretest-posttest type one group design. The trial was conducted involving 27 tenth grade students from Sunan Ampel Islamic Senior High School. The results of the validity test from the material expert indicate an 88 percent agreement rate, while the media expert shows an 87.3 percent agreement rate. The teacher's response questionnaire received a score of 97 percent, while the student responses received a score of 88%. After attending learning with animated video, the average student score increased from 51.31 to 83.77 in the pretest and posttest results. The data obtained from the normality test showed a normal distribution, while the t-test suggested significant results with sig. (2-tailed) 0.000 lees than 0.05. These results imply a significant difference in students' skills before and after the use of animated video media. In summary, the developed media is suitable for seismic learning, offering a positive impact on student learning outcomes.

Keterampilan Menyimak Dengan Menggunakan Media Podcast Siswa Kelas VIII SMP Negeri 16 Makassar

This study aims to describe listening skills before and after using podcast media for class VIII students of SMP Negeri 16 Makassar. This type of research is experimental research with quantitative descriptive method. The population in this study were all VIII grade students of SMP Negeri 16 Makassar totalling 204 consisting of seven classes homogeneously. Sampling in this study used simple random sampling technique. The instrument used in this study was a multiple choice test. The data collection techniques used by researchers are pretest, action, and posttest. The data analysis technique used in this research is descriptive statistics. The pretest results showed that the average student score was 47.5 and the posttest results showed that the average student score was 83.18. So it can be concluded that podcast media has an effect on listening skills in class VIII students of SMP Negeri 16 Makassar.

Achievement gains in an unequal society: Analyzing academic performance among Brazilian school districts, 2007–2017

Since the early 2000 s, average standardized test scores of Brazilian public primary and middle school students in both reading and mathematics on the national test, the SAEB, have risen substantially. Although the increases cut across all race and socioeconomic groups, the increases were unequal across groups and varied greatly across states and municipalities/school districts. In this paper, we describe student achievement gains in Brazil among municipalities in 2007–2017, with the goal of understanding the variation in these gains and the socioeconomic, race, and school resource correlates of that variation. Our results suggest that student social class and race were highly correlated with municipal test score gains: those municipalities with higher social class and proportionately more White students made significantly larger gains. However, municipalities with greater social class inequality made smaller gains. Certain average characteristics of teachers in a municipality and the incidence of school violence were also significantly related to student performance gains. Thus, our estimates suggest that it may be possible to soften the effects of social structural inequality among and within districts by increasing the quality of teacher resources and reducing school violence in lower academically gaining districts.

ANALYSIS OF THE PROJECT BASED LEARNING LEARNING MODEL BY UTILIZING YOUTUBE MEDIA TO IMPROVE STUDENTS' SPEECH SKILLS AT SMP NEGERI 3 MERAUKE

This research aims to analyze the project-based learning model (PjBL) using YouTube video media in student speech learning. The research subjects were carried out on class IX students in the odd semester of 2023. The research was carried out at SMP Negeri 3 Merauke, with a total of 37 students and the object of this research was speech skills. Data collection techniques use initial tests (pretest) and final tests (posttest), observation, and documentation. Data collection in this research was carried out by conducting tests, namely students' speeches before and after using YouTube media with reference to linguistic and non-linguistic aspects. The results of the research show that the use of YouTube media can improve speech skills and is very effective in teaching speeches for class IX students of SMP Negeri 3 Merauke with the results of comparing the average scores of students in the pretest and posttest with test statistics. t. It is known that the t-value obtained by t-test analysis is -8.627 with a standard deviation value of 7.260 and a p-value of 0.000. This means that there is an influence of the use of YouTube media on improving the speech skills of class XI students at SMP Negeri 3 Merauke.

Promotion of self-directed learning abilities among Chinese medical students through preparing for career calling and enhancing teaching competencies in medical education: a cross-sectional study.

Medical students face a heavy burden as they are tasked with acquiring a vast amount of medical knowledge within a limited time frame. Self-directed learning (SDL) has become crucial for efficient and ongoing learning among medical students. However, effective ways to foster SDL ability among Chinese medical students are lacking, and limited studies have identified factors that impact the SDL ability of medical students. This makes it challenging for educators to develop targeted strategies to improve students' SDL ability. This study aims to assess SDL ability among Chinese medical students and examine the effects of career calling and teaching competencies on SDL ability, as well as the possible mechanisms linking them. Data were collected from 3614 respondents (effective response rate = 60.11%) using cross-sectional online questionnaires and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0. The questionnaire comprised a Demographic Characteristics Questionnaire, Self-directed Learning Ability Scale (Cronbach's alpha = 0.962), Teaching Competencies Scale, and Career Calling Scale. The average SDL ability score of Chinese medical students was 3.68 ± 0.56, indicating a moderate level of SDL ability. The six factors of the Self-directed Learning Ability Scale-self-reflection, ability to use learning methods, ability to set study plans, ability to set studying objectives, ability to adjust psychological state, and willpower in studying-accounted for 12.90%, 12.89%, 12.39%, 11.94%, 11.34%, and 8.67% of the variance, respectively. Furthermore, career calling was positively associated with SDL learning ability (β = 0.295, p < 0.001), and SDL learning ability was positively associated with teaching competencies (β = 0.191, p < 0.01). Simple slope analysis showed that when the level of teaching competencies was higher, the influence of career calling on SDL ability was stronger. Chinese medical students' SDL ability has room for improvement. Medical students could strengthen their willpower in studying by setting milestones goals with rewards, which could inspire their motivation for the next goals. Teachers should guide students to learn experience to improve students' reflective ability. Educators play a crucial role in bridging the gap between career calling education and SDL ability enhancement, highlighting the significance of optimal teaching competencies. Colleges should focus on strengthening teachers' sense of career calling and teaching competencies.

Pengaruh Penggunaan Metode Jarimatika Terhadap Literasi Numerasi Melalui Program Kampus Mengajar Batch 5 di Sekolah Dasar

Improving numeracy literacy is the national agenda of the Indonesian Nation in the educational aspect. This is motivated by the results of the PISA research in 2018, which explained that the numeracy literacy of Indonesian people is still relatively low. The Jari Matika method is an alternative solution that can be used to solve this problem because it is simple and easy to apply to elementary school-aged children. This research itself aims to determine the effect of using the Jari Matika method on the numeracy literacy of students at SD Negeri 5 Mindahan through the Kampus Mengajar Batch 5. The research method used is quantitative with an experimental approach. The average score of students before being given treatment was 27.89, while the average score after students were given treatment was 70.26. From the results of the t-test analysis, it can be seen that the sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000&lt;0.05. Through these results, it can be concluded that there is an enhancement in students’ numeracy literacy before and after being given treatment, which in the research is the use of the Jari Matika method.

IMPLEMENTASI METODE TWO STAY TWO STRAY TERHADAP PENGUASAAN MUFRADĀT SISWA

&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;Vocabulary is one of the fundamental elements in active and passive language use. To reach a mastery phase, one must be capable of applying vocabulary in communication, writing, reading, and understanding words as well as sentences. To support the mastery of vocabulary, an engaging learning method known as the "two stay two stray" method is required. The objective of this research is to measure the effectiveness of the two stay two stray method on the mastery of Arabic vocabulary among students. This study utilizes a quantitative approach, specifically a quasi-experimental design known as the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research findings indicate that the two stay two stray method has proven effective in enhancing students' mastery of Arabic vocabulary, as evidenced by an increase in the average scores of students from 54.50 in the pretest to 71.68 in the posttest. The Paired Samples T-test results demonstrate a significance value (sig2-tailed) of 0.000, indicating that sig 2-tailed (0.000 &amp;lt; 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a difference between the results of the pretest and posttest. It is known that the t-score &amp;lt; t-table with (df) n-1 of 27 (-19.249 &amp;lt; -2.051), hence rejecting Ho. Consequently, it can be inferred that the two stay two stray method is effective and influential in enhancing the mastery of Arabic vocabulary among 7th-grade students at eLKISI Mojokerto Junior High School&lt;/em&gt;&lt;em&gt;. &lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

Teaching Writing Using Genre-Based Approach in Narrative Text

This research aims to measure the effectiveness of the genre-based approach in teaching narrative text writing in class x at MA Daar Et-Taqwa petir, kabupaten Serang. The number of students in the experimental class was 15 people and in the control class there were 15 people. In this research, the method used is the quasi-experimental method. The sample was selected by using cluster sampling. In collecting data, the researcher used instruments in the form of observation, and written tests for pre-test and post-test. After giving the post-test, the researcher analyzed the data using SPSS version 26.The results of the research show that the difference in the average posttest score of students in the experimental class is 74.46, which is greater than the average posttest score of students in the control class of 63. Based on the t-test value (0.000), it is smaller than the significance level a (0, 05) so it can be concluded that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. This shows that there are differences in student learning outcomes in the experimental class when compared with learning outcomes in the control class. Thus, the use of a genre-based approach is effective in teaching writing narrative texts in class x at MA Daar Et-Taqwa Petir, Kabupaten Serang.

The Roles of Internet Addiction and Cyberbullying Sensitivity for Prediction of University Students Psychological Inflexibility

In this research, it is aimed to examine the role of internet addiction and cyberbullying sensitivity on the psychological inflexibility of university students. The study group was formed with university students studying in the state and selected by the random cluster sampling method. The relational screening model was used in the research. 561 university students, including 473 girls and 88 boys, participated in the research. Acceptance and Action Form-2, Young Internet Addiction Short Form, Cyber Bullying Sensitivity Scale, and Personal Information Form were used to collect the data for the research. Independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance Pearson Product Moments Correlation Technique, and multiple linear regression analysis were used in the research. As a result, the average psychological inflexibility scores of students with a low perceived family income level were found to be significantly higher than those of students with a moderate perceived family income. It was found that the psychological inflexibility score averages of the group whose purpose of using the Internet is to shop were higher than the psychological inflexibility score averages of the group using the Internet for information purposes. As the daily usage of social media increases, the average psychological inflexibility score increases. There is a significant positive relationship between Internet addiction and psychological inflexibility. There is a significant positive relationship between sensitivity and psychological inflexibility related to cyberbullying. According to the research findings, it has been found that the sensitivity related to internet addiction and cyberbullying is a predictor of psychological inflexibility scores.

The Effectiveness of Ethnoscience Learning: Perception of Science Teacher Candidates

Study aims to explore the science teacher candidates regarding the effectiveness of ethnoscience learning. This study is an exploratory research conducted at the Mandalika University of Education with research subjects of 28 biology education students. This research uses a research instrument in the form of a closed questionnaire with answers using a Likert scale and has been validated by experts. This research data was analyzed using quantitative descriptive statistics and inferential statistics with independent sample t-test. The study results show that (1) The perception of prospective science teacher students regarding the effectiveness of ethnoscience learning has an average score of 2.98 in the Tall category, while based on gender, the average score for male students is 3.13 with the Tall category and for women it is 2.91 with Tall category; (2) there is no significant difference in the perceptions of male and female students regarding the effectiveness of ethnoscience learning as evidenced by a significance value of 0.116 which is greater than 0.05 (&gt;0.05).

Investigating the Knowledge of Yazd Dental Students about the Taught Factors of Direct Restoration of Endodontically Treated Teeth in 1401

Introduction: Treatment of root-treated teeth depends largely on proper restoration. Direct restorations are a better choice if there is sufficient residual tissue. This study aimed to investigate the knowledge of dental students in School of Dentistry in Yazd City about the taught factors of direct restoration of endodontically treated teeth.&#x0D; Methods: In this descriptive-cross-sectional study, the knowledge of 67 dental students of School of Dentistry in Yazd City about the taught factors of direct restoration of root-treated teeth was studied using a valid and reliable questionnaire containing demographic characteristics (age and gender) and 28 knowledge questions. After collecting the data, using SPSS version 16 software, they were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, Mann-Whitney test, T test and Pearson correlation coefficient.&#x0D; Results: 36 (53.7%) female students and 31 (46.3%) male students with an average age of 25 ± 3.14 participated in this study. The average awareness score was 32.74 ± 9.65. The average knowledge score of female students (35.30±10.27) was higher than that of male students (31.95±8.70), but this difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.156). In the age group under 25, the average score of awareness (34.78 ± 9.94) was higher than the average above 25 (30.43 ± 8.1). There was an inverse and significant relationship between knowledge score and age, r=-0.242 and P 0.049. Conclusion: The average knowledge score of dental students regarding the taught factors of direct restoration of endodontically treated teeth was good. Gender did not have a significant effect on the knowledge of students, and the knowledge of students under 25 years old was higher than ones over 25 years old.

Pengaruh Pendekatan Problem Solving Terhadap Kemampuan Menyelesaikan Soal Cerita Materi Teorema Phytagoras

This study aims to find out that the use of problems solving approach has a positive effect on students' abilities in solving story problems on the Pythagorean theorem class VIII.5 UPTD SMP Negeri 18 Barru. This type of research is quasi-experimental without a control class conducted in one group. The variables studied in this study were students' ability to solve word problems on the Pythagorean theorem class VIII.5 UPTD SMP Negeri 18 Barru as the dependent variable and learning using the problems solving method as the independent variable. The population of this study were all students of class VIII UPTD SMP Negeri 18 Barru for the academic year 2022/2023 which consisted of 5 (five) classes. Sampling was carried out by cluster random sampling, from 5 classes one class was taken randomly namely class VIII.5 as the experimental class. The instruments used in this study were tests of the ability to solve the Pythagorean theorem word problems and validated student activity observation sheets. Based on the descriptive statistical analysis, the average score of students' ability to solve the Pythagorean theorem story problems before learning using the problem solving learning method was 63,37 and the average score of students' ability to solve the Pythagorean theorem story problems after learning using the problem solving method was 80,40. Based on inferential statistical analysis using the one sample t-test, a significant value was obtained, p = 0,004 &lt; a = 0, this means that H0 is rejected H1 is accepted. So it can be concluded that there is a positive effect of the problem solving learning method on the mathematics learning outcomes of class VIII.5 UPTD SMP Negeri 18 Barru.

Sustainable Development: Memorizing the Quran Using the Takrir Method

This research is based on several symptoms that point to the need to improve the ability to read and memorize short surahs in elementary schools. There are still many students who are not yet able to read the Quran properly and correctly, there are still students who are not yet able to read the Alquran. The aim of this research is to find out about planning, implementation and improving the results of the ability to memorize short verses using the tahrir method in elementary schools in Indonesia. This type of research is Classroom Action Research, research carried out in elementary schools. The data source in this research is elementary school students, totaling 14 students. Data collection techniques are observation, documentation and test techniques. The data analysis technique consists of four steps, namely the first planning stage, implementation stage, observation and reflection stage. The results of the research show that learning planning uses the assessment method, namely by preparing learning implementation plans, teaching materials about length measuring instruments, preparing observation sheets, and supporting tools needed in the learning process. The second learning implementation using the inquiry method was carried out in two cycles with four meetings. The three research results showed an increase in the average score of students in cycle I, namely 63.93, increasing to 83.17 in cycle II using the assessment method with a percentage of completeness in the ability to memorize short verses for students from cycle I of 5 people (35.71 %) increased to 13 people (92.86%) in cycle II.

Application of Academic Potential Test for New Student Admission Using Fisher-Yates Shuffle Algorithm

The selection process of new students in educational institutions, such as in Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) Wisata Indonesia which still uses conventional methods using paper, has several challenges. One of the main challenges is test cheating, where prospective students may try to manipulate their test results to increase their chances of being accepted. In addition, another challenge faced by SMK Wisata Indonesia is that when the number of prospective students who register is very large, managing answers and exam results can become more complicated. This research aims to design and build an Android-based Academic Potential Test application by applying the Fisher-Yates Shuffle algorithm to randomize the order of questions. This research also uses the RUP (rational Unified Process) system development technique which has several phases, namely the Inception phase, Elaboration phase, Construction phase and Transition phase. The validation testing carried out obtained overall valid results so that the application that has been designed is in accordance with user needs. Meanwhile, usability testing in the Academic Potential Test Application using the SEQ method resulted in an average Likert score for students of 6.63 with a user-friendliness percentage of around 94%. As for teachers, the Likert average score is 6.53 with a percentage of ease of use of around 93%. This shows that the Academic Potential Test Application that has been built is EASY TO USE
