Project Technologies in the Practical Course of the Russian Language in the Formation of Research Qualities of University Students

Nowadays, the role of science in the learning process of students is becoming more and more important. This is due to the fact that in recent years there has been an increase in the volume of research work, and there has been a change in the educational paradigm, in which the basic academic knowledge is no longer the only necessary capital, which leads to an increase in self-development in professional activities. Research work of students is one of the most important means of improvement of quality of education and training of specialists with higher education, capable of creative application in practice of the latest achievements of scientific, technical and cultural progress in modern conditions. Project technologies develop cognitive skills of students, their ability to independently construct their knowledge, ability to navigate in the information space, critical and creative thinking. In the article the authors define the importance of the use of the project method for the development of research activity of students. The stages and steps of implementation of this method are also given.

Insights into research activities of senior dental students in the Middle East: A multicenter preliminary study

BackgroundDespite the increasing recognition of the importance of research in undergraduate dental education, limited studies have explored the nature of undergraduate research activities in dental schools in the Middle East region. This study aimed to evaluate the research experience of final year dental students from three dental schools in the Middle East.MethodsA descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted among final-year dental students from three institutions, namely Jordan University of Science and Technology, University of Sharjah (UAE), and Oman Dental College. Participants were asked about the nature and scope of their research projects, the processes involved in the research, and their perceived benefits of engaging in research.Results A total of 369 respondents completed the questionnaire. Cross-sectional studies represented the most common research type (50.4%), with public health (29.3%) and dental education (27.9%) being the predominant domains. More than half of research proposals were developed via discussions with instructors (55.0%), and literature reviews primarily utilized PubMed (70.2%) and Google Scholar (68.5%). Regarding statistical analysis, it was usually carried out with instructor’s assistance (45.2%) or using specialized software (45.5%). The students typically concluded their projects with a manuscript (58.4%), finding the discussion section most challenging to write (42.0%). The research activity was considered highly beneficial, especially in terms of teamwork and communication skills, as well as data interpretation skills, with 74.1% of students reporting a positive impact on their research perspectives.ConclusionsThe research experience was generally positive among surveyed dental students. However, there is a need for more diversity in research domains, especially in qualitative studies, greater focus on guiding students in research activities s, especially in manuscript writing and publication. The outcomes of this study could provide valuable insights for dental schools seeking to improve their undergraduate research activities.

ПЕДАГОГИЧЕСКИЕ УСЛОВИЯ И МОТИВЫ ИССЛЕДОВАТЕЛЬСКОЙ ДЕЯТЕЛЬНОСТИ СТУДЕНТОВ

The article raises the problem of low interest of students in scientific work. The question of the influence of motivation levels of engineering students on their interest in research activities is considered. Attention is paid to the potential of junior courses' block of natural science disciplines as the first step in a series of measures to attract students to research. An anonymous survey of three-year students of a technical university was conducted to identify their motivations for vocational training. An analysis of the results of assessment of students of different courses by levels of manifestation of motives is presented, with elements of author's scaling of empirical data. In order to obtain and analyse qualitative data, the results of the focus group method are presented. The pedagogical principles of early development of research activity are defined: systematicity, interdisciplinarity, variability. A significant time and organisational resource for conducting optional research activities was identified. They are the hours in the working programmes of general education disciplines, allocated for independent work of students. Organisational and pedagogical conditions and approaches for early involvement of students in research activities are proposed. It is noted that the proposed measures have been successfully implemented in Tver State Technical University. The obtained results do not contradict similar studies of other authors.

TRAINING OF FUTURE SPECIALISTS FOR THE USE OF STEM LABORATORIES IN PRIMARY EDUCATION

The article discusses the preparation of future specialists for the use of a STEM laboratory at the initial stage and is based on determining the effectiveness in accordance with the results of research. Scientific papers, state regulatory documents and programs that reveal the content of the topic on the issue of training future specialists to use STEM laboratories in primary education are analyzed. The possibilities of the process of training future specialists to use the STEM laboratory in primary education are determined.In the preparation of future primary school specialists, the problem of organizing students’ research activities at a high level through the development of their creative and intellectual potential is considered. The effective use of the STEM laboratory in primary school, the effectiveness of the implementation of research activities of students in teaching using STEM technology has been established.In order to reveal the research topic, based on the analyzed scientific papers, special surveys were obtained with the participation of primary school teachers in order to determine the possibility of using STEM laboratory by future specialists in primary education. In addition, as a result of the theoretical differentiation of scientific papers, the content and effectiveness of the use of the STEM laboratory in education are methodically determined in the article, and the possibilities of its’ application are analyzed. The features of STEM education in primary grades are determined. The scientific novelty lies inthe interrelated theoretical and methodological consideration of the possibilities of preparing future specialists for the use of STEM laboratories in primary education.

SIGNIFICANCE OF ELECTRONIC EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT WHEN TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGE FOR STUDENTS’ RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

Background. The paper focuses on the urgent problem of foreign language vocational training of prospective specialists and its significance in students’ research activities. Nowadays, the current concept of teaching foreign languages at non-linguistic university training emphasizes the teaching system combining vocational training and language acquisition. In other words, it is crucial to consider the competencies for prospective occupation and the ability of students to use their professional language skills in a dynamically changing environment. Based on the modern standards of higher education, with an emphasis on project and research activities, the programs of teaching foreign languages consider the student’s research activities one of the most important motivation tools for mastering a foreign language. These activities allow students to creatively apply the achievements of scientific and technological progress in practice. Purpose. The aim of the research is to present a description of the structure of the electronic educational environment of the university and to identify the specifics of foreign language teaching for research activities of students. Materials and methods. The competence approach, in particular foreign-language professional-oriented competence, is considered as the methodological basis of the study. Achievement of the set research goal was carried out on the basis of theoretical and methodological analysis, systematisation and generalisation of scientific literature on the given problem. Quantitative indicators were used as an element of describing the dynamics of changes in the educational environment of the university. Using the given methods, the students should obtain foreign language competencies, including the extensive application of electronic educational resources and research skills. We described the approaches to organizing the teaching process, focusing on the concept of a computer-based environment, including electronic educational resources. Results. The experience of Sevastopol State University (Sevastopol, Russia) serves as an example of the positive experience of the electronic educational environment, which underlines the scientific novelty of the study. Practice shows that using an electronic educational environment is essential in engaging students in research activities. Such an environment promotes the formation of creative skills among students and increases the level of their vocational training.

FORMATION OF RESEARCH AND COGNITIVE ACTIVITY OF STUDENTS

The article examines the issues of developing research and cognitive activity among students at the Dagestan State Pedagogical University (DSPU). In the context of rapid changes in information technologies and education, the focus is placed on the problems and methods of activating these aspects. The authors analyze the external and internal factors influencing students' cognitive activity and the motivations underlying the pursuit of knowledge and professional growth. An empirical study is presented, identifying the main obstacles to the formation of students' activity and suggesting solutions, including through the use of interactive teaching methods, case methods, project work, laboratory and practical classes, as well as brainstorming and technological tools. Purpose. The study aims to stimulate and enhance the research and cognitive activity of students at the Dagestan State Pedagogical University to improve the quality of higher education and form professionals capable of independent professional activity. Method and methodology. Application of a comprehensive approach, including the analysis of theoretical foundations of educational psychology, investigation of current interactive learning methods, and assessment of the practical application of the acquired knowledge in the educational process Results. Development and integration of interactive teaching methods, such as role-playing games, simulations, case methods, and project work, that demonstrate improved student motivation, activity, and quality of education. Scope of the results: higher education, particularly pedagogical universities and colleges, where the innovation can be integrated into teaching programs to develop critical thinking and independent research skills among future professionals.

Moreover, engaging in research cultivates a sense of ethics and professionalism, which are essential qualities for any medical practitioner. The author advocates for the integration of medical research into the medical education curriculum. This integration can be achieved through various means, such as practical sessions, involvement in scientific projects, participation in conferences, and opportunities for publication. Practical sessions provide hands-on experience, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios. Scientific projects, whether individual or collaborative, encourage in-depth exploration of specific medical issues, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter. School has become more project-oriented. There is tremendous potential for student agency here. Children's agency can be revealed through a participatory approach to childhood sociology. The analysis model is based on the principles of participatory methodology and interpretive reproduction by Corsaro. Three groups of variables are identified: the subjectivity of the child, the balance of power between the child and the adult, and the joint creativity of the participants. The empirical basis of the study is the “Green School” case, implemented online with the participation of five schoolchildren and one teacher from the Khabarovsk Territory. Observation, interviews, focus groups, and text analysis were used for the monographic analysis of the “case”. In a space of “equal participation”, where students and a teacher are co-participants and co-researchers, children’s agency can be disclosed. Children maximally expresses themselves through free choice, gaining personal experience in the process of making decisions. Responsibility arises not as an “obligation”, but as a motivation for learning: “how can we do it to make it better”. The results of this work can be used by educators in organizing project-based research activities for students, utilizing sociological methods adapted to the study of children.

Traditionally, the convergence of these two realms is most often noted when considering the integration of research findings into educational practices or the involvement of, typically a small number, of students in research activities. While these practices have demonstrated efficacy, the fields of scientific research and education are evolving rapidly, necessitating a reevaluation of how we can optimize their convergence. In our discourse, we delve into these evolving trends, uncover the potential for greater integration, and, ultimately, enhance outcomes using the citizen science initiative Kefir4All as an illustrative example.

Experimental Skills in Studying the Plant Organism in the Conditions of a Children’s Technology Park

In the context of improving the modern educational process, the role of organizations for additional education of children is increasing. They are designed to ensure the satisfaction of individual abilities and needs in various aspects of personal development. This fully applies to the activities of the children’s technology park, which operates within the structure of additional education organizations, associated with the introduction of new technologies into the educational process, which presupposes the mastery of experimental skills. Many of the students show interest in studying plants using laboratory equipment. To do this, there is a need to determine the composition of experimental skills, without which it is not possible to purposefully study plants in general, the plant organism, its components and the characteristics of their functioning, in particular. The article concretizes the concept of experimental skill, in the context of which the corresponding groups of skills are defined – organizational, communicative, theoretical and practical, indicating specific skills in relation to each of them with brief explanations. Purpose of the article. Updating the importance of using the potential of the children’s technology park in students performing research work on the study of living systems - the plant organism in the BIOquantum laboratory based on the use of an identified and characterized set of experimental skills. Research methodology. The methodological basis of the work performed is the activity approach, which serves as the basis for identifying the composition and characteristics of experimental skills, without which it is not possible for students in the field of additional education to purposefully carry out experiments in the BIOquantum laboratory of the children’s technology park. Research methods. The following methods were used: study and analysis of published sources on the topic of the article, a deductive basis for expressing the obtained materials and generalization in drawings. Conclusion. The identified and characterized experimental skills – organizational, communicative, theoretical and practical – act as a means of implementing the research activities of students in the field of additional education to carry out experiments on studying the plant organism in the BIOquantum laboratory of the children’s technology park.

Organization of project activities at the university in the system of scientific reflection

Introduction. The relevance of the study of project activities in higher education is related to the role that this form of educational activity plays at the present stage of education development. Interdisciplinary studies emerging at the intersection of sociology, political science, anthropology, philosophy and economics are promising. This article raises the problem of the contribution of the experience, reflections and mediation of a teacher of a pedagogical university to the project method, on the one hand, and the requirements that apply to the competence of student researchers– on the other. The concept of autonomy of student research activity is proposed as a key idea for the transformation of the directions of the modern Russian educational space.Materials and methods. The materials are based on a study conducted by teachers and students of the Stavropol Pedagogical Institute, a branch in the city of Yessentuki in the period from 2015 to 2022 as part of a research project designed at the same institute. Seven research projects were completed: four with certified teachers, three with students who received a history teacher's diploma, and twenty introductory pedagogical projects. In the process of working on projects, coordination activities were regularly carried out aimed at analyzing the work already done and planning the next stages. The frequency of variables in the method was tested with the participation of teachers, young researchers and students enrolled in historical and social studies programs of the Stavropol State Pedagogical Institute, a branch in the city of Yessentuki.Results. The conducted research made it possible to identify the key positions of the researcher in decision-making, to identify the main starting points of the scientific hypothesis in the process of forming goals and objectives, to describe a set of methodological developments and ideas in the implementation of project activities within the framework of a pedagogical university, the problems of human inclusion in the collective social consciousness in the space of a modern city.Discussion and conclusions. It was concluded that experience contributes to reflection, and reflection contributes to building knowledge and changing paradigms.

Using Interactive Maps as a Means of Developing Fundamental Mathematical Knowledge

Introduction. Mathematics as a science and academic discipline has rich educational potential. However, due to the lack of motivation among students to master it, difficulties often arise in acquiring fundamental mathematical knowledge. The author believes that questions of the history of mathematics can help to understand how this discipline has developed over the centuries, how it influences modern life, and the tools of the digital educational environment will make it possible to do this in an accessible and understandable interactive form. The aim of the study is to present a way to use digital interactive maps as a means of developing deep mathematical knowledge in students, based on historical aspects of mathematical theory. Methodology: analysis of psychological and pedagogical literature on the research topic, generalization of many years of experience in training future teachers of mathematics and computer science, results of organizing design and research activities of students at Leningrad State University named after A. S. Pushkin (Saint Petersburg). The digital interactive map presented by the author is based on substantive aspects of the development of mathematics from the history of the Saint Petersburg mathematical school. Results. Digital interactive maps are characterized as an option for a teacher to use the functionality of a digital educational environment to fundamentalize students’ mathematical training. Interactive maps increase studentsʼ interest in educational material, integrate various types of data, use various interactivity tools, are the basis for providing detailed reference information, provide productive interaction with the map, and others. The author presents an example of creating an interactive map that reflects various locations in Saint Petersburg associated with historical aspects of the development of mathematical theory. Conclusions. A conclusion is made about the methodologically justified creation and use by the teacher of materials on the history of mathematics for the development of students’ system of fundamental mathematical knowledge, the formation of interest in the subject, the patriotic education of students, which together contributes to the conscious study of each individual topic of the school and university mathematics course, a deep immersion in the essence tasks to be solved.

The effectiveness of forming the competitiveness of future teachers is ensured through the integration of educational and scientific research activities of students, embedded in the content of professional training. The article's purpose: to characterise the peculiarities of the integration of educational-scientific research activities in the process of forming the competitiveness of future teachers in higher education. Research methods: analysis and synthesis, comparison, systematization (to clarify key research concepts), and generalization (to form authors` conclusions). The concept of a teacher's competitiveness is considered as an integrative professionally significant quality of a specialist, which ensures the demand in the teaching labor market due to the realization of competitive advantages that reflect a high level of formation of general cultural and professional competencies and personal characteristics. The components of a teacher's competitiveness are: fundamental professional training, motivation for professional activity, positive value and moral attitudes of an individual, communication skills, organizational and leadership skills, the ability to work in a team, mobility, perseverance, initiative, responsibility, the presence of creative potential, innovative competence, purposefulness, the ability to plan a professional and life career, orientation towards self-development, self-improvement and self-realization, stress resistance, the ability to overcome difficulties, the desire for success, etc. The effectiveness of future teachers competitiveness formation is ensured through the integration of educational-scientific research activities, provided by the principles: unification and coordination of the efforts and interests of scientists and departments of the university with all interested persons and scientific structures; ensuring cathedral autonomy; formation of a connection between scientific and research activities with the future profession and requests of real practice; expansion of international cooperation.

Professional Education of Teachers in Postgraduate Studies Based on Research Training

Introduction. The modern sociocultural situation requires the preparation of a teacher capable of developing a seeking, original, creative personality. Research activities become the means and background of the educational process at the university. The purpose of the article is to consider the theoretical and technological foundations of training in the research activities of graduate students. The subject of the article is the educational process of the university in the field of training 44.06.01 Pedagogical Sciences and Education. Object – the essence, functions and methodology of the mechanisms of evidence of a candidate’s thesis by means of research training. The methodological basis of the article is competence-based (to determine the educational results of a graduate student) and personal (to describe the personal results of research training for graduate students in the process of preparing a candidate’s dissertation) approaches. Research results. The author examines aspects of the research function of the university, its features in modern professional pedagogical education, mechanisms for the formation of research competencies in various ways and forms of the educational process of the level of training of scientific and pedagogical personnel in graduate school. Training, as a means of their formation, its essence, functions, educational and research goals, as well as the stages of organization and implementation (preparatory, presentation, analytical and generalizing) are updated for the graduate student to solve methodological problems and form the internal content, structural and formalized unity of the dissertation. In conclusion, a conclusion is made about the effectiveness of research training for solving methodological problems by a young applicant and forming the internal unity of his dissertation based on a theoretical review and SWOT analysis data with the strength of immersion in a professional research environment and the absence of barriers to productive research interaction identified by graduate students.

Ethical Expectations of Academic Research by College Undergraduate Students

The development of research skills is a gradual process that assumedly should start at the undergraduate level. This article aims to explore what research-related skills professional bachelor (undergraduate) students are expected to acquire in Lithuanian colleges. Using a conventional approach of content analysis, the authors analysed twenty-nine descriptors of study fields applied to colleges and sixteen codes of ethics of Lithuanian colleges to identify research-related learning outcomes (learning skills) and ethics norms. Their findings suggest that undergraduate students are not recognized as a contributing part of the research community, although they are expected to be involved in research. Some study fields are more research-oriented than others; however, compliance with research ethics is implied only in eight study fields. Student research activity is even less addressed in the codes of ethics than in the descriptors of study fields.

Perceptions of students and faculty on NCAAA-accredited health informatics programs in Saudi Arabia: an evaluative study

BackgroundAs the healthcare sector becomes increasingly reliant on technology, it is crucial for universities to offer bachelor’s degrees in health informatics (HI). HI professionals bridge the gap between IT and healthcare, ensuring that technology complements patient care and clinical workflows; they promote enhanced patient outcomes, support clinical research, and uphold data security and privacy standards. This study aims to evaluate accredited HI academic programs in Saudi Arabia.MethodsThis study employed a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional design utilising a self-reported electronic questionnaire consisting of predetermined items and response alternatives. Probability-stratified random sampling was also performed.ResultThe responses rates were 39% (n = 241) for students and 62% (n = 53) for faculty members. While the participants expressed different opinions regarding the eight variables being examined, the faculty members and students generally exhibited a strong level of consensus on many variables. A notable association was observed between facilities and various other characteristics, including student engagement, research activities, admission processes, and curriculum. Similarly, a notable correlation exists between student engagement and the curriculum in connection to research, attrition, the function of faculty members, and academic outcomes.ConclusionWhile faculty members and students hold similar views about the institution and its offerings, certain areas of divergence highlight the distinct perspectives and priorities of each group. The perception disparity between students and faculty in areas such as admission, faculty roles, and internships sheds light on areas of improvement and alignment for universities.

Digital ecosystem for enhancing research and innovation activities of master's students

Introduction. The dynamic development of modern digital technologies emphasizes the need for the development of new tools to activate the research and innovation activities of master's students. A digital ecosystem holds significant pedagogical potential not only in the academic activities of students but also in research and innovation. However, its creation is complicated by a lack of understanding of the essence, structure, and emergent properties of the system. The purpose of the study is to identify the features, mechanisms, and functionality of the digital educational ecosystem to enhance the research and innovation activities of undergraduates. Materials and methods. Bibliographic databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, Lens, and other international information systems of peer-reviewed scientific literature were used for the analysis of publications. System analysis and analysis of internet resources were employed to address the research objectives. The results of the study. The functional capabilities of the digital educational ecosystem for activating the research and innovation activities of master's students were identified, including access to information systems and databases of scientific information, automation of research management, creation and administration of electronic surveys, access to tools for processing and analyzing large volumes of data, access to data visualization tools, collaboration systems for working on research projects, automation of planning, tracking, and organizing research or educational projects, access to electronic systems for applying for research grants and scholarships, access to specialized plagiarism detection systems, electronic portfolios, access to publication management systems, automation of the creation and formatting of scientific articles and presentations, automation of publication formatting, access to virtual laboratories and modeling environments. Conclusion. The presented analysis allowed for the identification and justification of the pedagogical potential of the digital ecosystem for the core research and project activities of master's students, specifically: providing research with information resources; improving data collection and analysis; optimizing collaborative and network interactions; automating project management; digitally supporting the research process; digital technologies for stimulating creativity; digital support for publication preparation; expanding research boundaries; self-development; supporting distance learning; supporting virtual laboratories and modeling environments; ensuring data visualization; instrumental support for research quality analysis.
