This article investigates managerial skills requirements of Ghanaian business sectors, using six sectors. The authors adopted qualitative approach involving 48 Master of Business Administration students of the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. The aim is to investigate individual sector's managerial skills requirements and if there are common skills across the sectors. A four-stage group interactive brainstorming exercise was used as both the data collection technique and the data analytical tool, as data were presented and discussed as they were generated by the groups. The study found managerial skill common to all the industries studied; others are common to many sectors; while some were sector-specific, and these were both soft and hard skills. It is concluded that employees of varied sectors do not require the same set of managerial skills to function effectively but each required a different set of skills. It is recommended that skills development should focus more on the soft skills, as they are required to function across sectors. The study contributes fresh literature on inter-sector and sector-specific managerial skills requirements and utilisation in the Ghanaian context.
