Analysis of Grammatical Cohesion of Reading Texts in "Paragraph Writing" Textbook

This study aims to find out the types of grammatical cohesion in the reading texts in “Paragraph Writing” textbook. The data were the reading texts taken from a textbook entitled “Paragraph Writing” and analyzed using the theory proposed by Halliday & Hasan (1976). This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive qualitative design and documentary technique as data collection procedures. The findings show that all types of grammatical cohesion are found in the total 22 reading texts. From 211 sentences, 569 data are classified as grammatical cohesion items and all types of it are found. The reference occurs 442 times, ellipsis 17 times, substitution only once, and conjunction 109 times. To sum up, “Paragraph Writing” Textbook is a good supplementary teaching material for lecturers in teaching grammatical cohesion, and a suitable additional learning material for students in mastering discourse analysis, especially the grammatical cohesion.

KAJIAN SEMIOTIKA PIERCE PADA FOLKLOR BATU KUDA

This study aims to obtain and describe the moral value of the oral tradition of Horse Stone folklore based on Pierce's semiotics in classifying objects based on the classification of symbols, icons, and indices. Pierce's use of semiotics is related to the uses possessed by folklore itself. All types of folklore, whether oral folklore, partly oral folklore or non-oral folklore, have uses or functions that are very important for human life. This makes folklore in life can describe the way a person involves himself in the midst of community life. The method used qualitative method with a semiotic approach, because the results of data that have been generated and collected on the Horse Stone folklore will be described in the form of written data. Finally, the results of data processing are used as a proposal for literature teaching materials in high school based on the Independent Curriculum in the form of modules. Learning folklore or folklore has a very important role in efforts to preserve noble values and local cultural wisdom. In education, folklore can be used as a learning medium and can be used as learning material for students. The use of folklore as an educational medium can be utilized in various disciplines, which of course the selection of folklore used must be right with the subject matter to be delivered. The use of folklore as an educational medium also acts as one step in preserving existing local culture. Therefore, getting used to delivering lessons through teaching materials is an effort to preserve folklore as part of culture, both protection, utilization and development of folklore in the future.

Legal Certainty in the Decisions of the Honorary Council of the Constitutional Court: A Case Study of Chairman Anwar Usman's Ruling

The existence of the Constitutional Court in the life of the nation and state is in order to guarantee and prove the existence of positive law, especially laws, so that these laws remain in accordance with the constitution so that later the constitutional rights of citizens can be maintained. The purpose of this research is as evaluation material and learning material for law enforcers, students and other parties. This type of research is included in the juridical-normative category, namely research carried out by examining theories, concepts, legal principles and regulations that are appropriate and related to the object of research. The Constitutional Court decision that has been issued against Anwar Usman cannot be challenged in the State Administrative Court because the Constitutional Court's decision is not a state administrative decision so it does not fall within the scope of what can be litigated in the state administrative court. Another reason that could be the basis for approval or inaccuracy of the State Administrative Court's lawsuit in relation to the Constitutional Court's decision is related to the ad hoc nature inherent in the Constitutional Court. Compliance with ethical standards in the decision-making process in law enforcement agencies is a crucial element in maintaining the trust and reputation of state administration in the eyes of the public. The presence of ethical standards in the Constitutional Court is considered the basis for upholding constitutional principles which are moral and behavioral guidelines for all members of the judiciary.

The Importance of Digital Visual Learning Materials for Enhancing Middle School Students' Academic Performance in Islamic Subjects in the Sidikalang District

The purpose of this study is to characterize the importance of digital visual learning materials for raising student learning outcomes. The topic of discussion is Islamic religious education courses in the junior high schools in the Sidikalang District, namely SMPN 1 Sidikalang, SMPN 2 Sidikalang, and SMPN 3 Sidikalang, with a research background. This kind of research, which is being conducted from November 2023 to March 2024, is qualitative and uses a descriptive analytical study method. In order to gather factual information from schools, data was first collected through observation techniques. Later, data was collected through interview techniques and documentation studies. The study's findings demonstrate that representative photos, diagrams, and graphs are used in digital visual media for teaching the Islamic faith at three SMPN Sidikalang District locations, LCD or projector is used to operationalize the media. The steps involved in creating digital visual learning materials are needs analysis, planning, design, development, assessment, revision, implementation, long-term use, and ongoing evaluation. Digital visual learning materials have the potential to improve comprehension, jog memory, pique students' interest, and provide a contextual link between the content being taught and real-world experiences.

Improvement of Students' Problem-Solving Skill on Physics Learning: A Meta-Analysis

Problem-solving skills can be realised by not necessarily depending only on how much students' maturity level is, but also on the problems they experience directly. This study looked into how students' problem-solving skills may be improved in physics learning by paying attention to the level of education, models, media, and learning topics used. This study employs a meta-analysis of 14 scientific publications on student problem-solving skills in physics education, with a focus on articles that were published between 2017 and 2022, accepted by Scopus and SINTA, employing quasi-experimental research designs, satisfying the statistical data requirements for calculating effect sizes, and providing details on the subjects, media, learning models, and educational level in physics education. The data analysis approach was executed using the VOSviewer tool for bibliometric analysis and effect size estimates for metadata analysis. According to the meta-analysis results, students' physics learning outcomes would greatly benefit from exercising their problem-solving abilities, with an average effect size of 1.29 and an influence of 88%. Using the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) learning model in high schools, together with student worksheet learning materials on heat energy, would significantly enhance students' problem-solving abilities in physics classes. This meta-analysis study intends to provide teachers with a standard to measure their choices of models, media, and lesson subjects to improve their students' ability to solve problems when studying physics.

Trilingual Supplementary Learning Material: Needs of English Learning Materials for First Grade Elementary School Students

One of the factors that greatly influence the ineffectiveness of language learning in schools is the limited resources, including textbooks, teaching materials, and other supporting tools needed for effective English learning. Therefore, supplementary learning materials are needed that can complement the lack of teaching materials in English Classes. As an initial stage in designing and developing supplementary learning materials, this research aims to conduct a needs analysis in two elementary schools to obtain an initial picture of the needs of teachers and students as a basis for designing supplementary learning materials. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Data were collected by interviews and direct observation. Data from the interview were analyzed descriptively. Based on the results of the analysis, it is known that there are several problems, such as teachers’ difficulties in speaking English, students’ disinterest in learning English due to limited vocabulary, and lack of interactive learning activities. Therefore, additional trilingual learning materials are needed with three equivalent languages: English, Indonesian, and Balinese. Providing learning materials covering three languages and integrated with interactive activities and games is expected to be a more inclusive and effective solution for improving students’ language skills.

Kuliner Pecel Madiun sebagai Bahan Ajar Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing dalam Mendukung Internasionalisasi Kuliner Bahasa Indonesia

This research will discuss the famous culinary dish, namely "Pecel Madiun", which will be used as new learning material for foreign students. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive approach, which aims to understand the condition of the research object as a whole in order to obtain detailed information about the creation of Indonesian language learning materials for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) using Madiun pecel as the context. This research also involved informants from one of the Madiun pecel food stall sellers in Jebres District, Surakarta City. The preparation of BIPA learning materials will be adjusted to the students' Indonesian language skills. Initial material will be presented in simple and easy to understand language, then more complex material will be introduced after students have mastered basic Indonesian. The choice of "Pecel Madiun" as the research object is very appropriate because this presents a new variation in BIPA Teaching Materials for foreign speakers.

Designing English Reading Materials For Law Students

English is a language that is generally difficult to understand for most students. Providing reading materials is one of the necessary approaches that should be undertaken by professors. This research aims to explore information regarding the needs of students in learning English and describe how reading materials for law students at a university in Indonesia are designed. The research and development (R&D) method is employed, implementing the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The results indicate that the majority of students greatly require materials that can enhance their reading skills. After the reading materials are designed and implemented in class, an evaluation is conducted to further develop the materials. The evaluation results, as responded to by students and expert professors, indicate that the materials align with the students’ needs. The average percentage of students’ needs fulfilled by the reading materials is 84%, while the average assessment percentage from the experts is 90.4%. This demonstrates that the reading materials are valid for use as English learning materials for law students.

Development Model of Augmented Reality: A Need Analysis of Vocabulary Book for ESP Students

Abstract. The real challenge in 5.0 society requires meeting the needs of future generations who can use foreign languages and master technology. This study investigated the need for specific learning sources or materials for vocational students specifically majoring in Informatics Engineering in vocabulary learning. Since vocabulary is a fundamental language aspect of using English in reciprocal communications, this study is a type of survey research that uses quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques. The instruments used to obtain the data were developed referring to the principal notion of a need assessment proposed by Hutchinson and Waters, validated by a language expert, and served through a questionnaire. The setting of this study involved 48 students of Vocational Students of Informatics Engineering at a private vocational school in Jakarta, Indonesia. The results showed that students of Informatics Engineering at vocational schools must be able to communicate in English, both written and spoken, using the specific term related to their department. Besides studying ESP to work, some students planned to continue to higher education with expertise in linear education. Therefore, they need to learn vocabulary with the integration of technology as they are supposed to deal with it in their field of work in informatics engineering to join the 5.0 society with the advancement of augmented reality-based media. Abstract“Learning from Learners” (“Von Lernenden Lernen”, “VoLL-KI ” for short) is a is collaborative research project with the goal of creating a practical toolbox of instruments at different levels of abstraction to improve the learning experience and outcomes for students of artificial intelligence. Learning and teaching at tertiary education institutions are currently IT-based but not AI-supported. The VoLL-KI project aims to go this crucial next step. Using AI approaches (e.g., ML, symbolic AI, statistical AI), several educational technologies are developed on the different granularity of the study programs (e.g., course, semester, program). So, dashboards for study planning, recommender systems improving student advisory services and learning material selection, VR-based learning experiences, educational chatbots, and adaptive learning environments are developed. Analyzing the Needs of Pre-service Teacher Education Students for Flipbook Learning Resources: Enhancing Understanding and Engagement with Educational Materials

In today's rapidly advancing landscape of information and communication technology, the adoption of technology-based learning tools such as Flipbooks is increasingly essential for optimizing educational experiences. Commonly known as flipping books, Flipbooks offer a dynamic way to engage with learning materials. This study investigates the specific needs of pre-service elementary school teacher education students (batch 2) from the Faculty of Literature and Education at Sriwijaya University regarding the use of Flipbook learning resources. The focus is on how these resources can enhance students' understanding of course content and improve interaction with educational materials. Employing qualitative research methods, including interviews and questionnaires, the study involved 36 participants. Findings indicate a substantial demand, with 94% of the respondents expressing a need for Flipbook-based teaching modules that cater to courses on student understanding and learning materials. These results underscore the potential benefits of integrating digital learning resources in teacher education, aiming to meet student needs effectively and enhance educational outcomes.

PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS ON ENTERTAINING EDUCATIONAL CONTENT FOR LEARNERS WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER

This paper reports on an ongoing study regarding the needs of autism spectrum disorder learners for entertaining learning materials. Previous researchers have introduced a number of assistive technologies, but the use of assistive technologies is problematic for students with autism spectrum disorder. The lack of entertaining learning material for autism spectrum disorder students may be one of the reasons. Therefore, this study proposed student–entred learning and self–paced learning approaches to better help autism spectrum disorder students for learning. The methods of fieldwork and semistructured interviews were utilized to investigate the needs of autism spectrum disorder learners for entertaining learning materials. During the fieldwork, the favorite or main leisure activities at home of the participants were collected. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with teachers in special schools to investigate students’ needs for entertaining learning materials. The study results indicated that there are very few entertaining learning materials developed specifically for learners with autism spectrum disorder, but the need is urgent.

Gender inclusiveness in student learning materials: Study of elementary school context in Indonesia

This study intends to evaluate the gender inclusivity in learning and education research field's growth trend from 2013 to 2023. The steps of the research are as follows: (i) assembling the tools and materials; (ii) organizing meetings; (iii) screening; (iv) visualizing; and (v) reviewing the data and outcomes that have been published. There were 988 articles in the keyword search results for "Gender," "Inclusiveness," "Learning materials," "Elementary School," and "Indonesia." A more equal and inclusive learning environment for all students can be achieved by include gender in student learning materials, according to the research findings. Students are more likely to feel appreciated and respected when they recognize themselves in the learning materials. Additionally, it supports and equalizes constructive gender roles and works to dispel harmful gender stereotypes.

Pengembangan media pembelajaran Articulate Storyline untuk pemahaman konsep materi turunan

Kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa yang masih tergolong rendah memerlukan suatu penanganan berupa pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan karakteristik siswa dan materi pembelajaran. Hal itu dapat dilakukan dengan menghadirkan media pembelajaran yang difasilitasi oleh guru sebagai produk saintifik hasil desain dan pengembangan program multimedia interaksi Articulate Storyline. Penelitian ini bertujuan : (1) mendeskripsikan proses dan menghasilkan produk media pembelajaran Articulate Storyline yang valid dan praktis; (2) mengkaji kepraktisan implementasi pembelajaran menggunakan produk media pembelajaran Articulate Storyline (3) mengkaji peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa pada materi Turunan yang mengikuti pembelajaran berbantuan media pembelajaran Articulate Storyline. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pengembangan dengan model prosedural ADDIE: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, dan Evaluation. Penelitian melibatkan 32 siswa kelas XI di Konawe Selatan menggunakan Instrumen lembar tes, angket, dan validasi. Data penelitian dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial. Hasil penelitian pengembangan media pembelajaran berbasis Articulate Storyline didapatkan valid dan sangat layak berdasarkan penilaian dari ahli materi dengan skor rata-rata keseluruhan 92% dan ahli media diperoleh skor rata-rata keseluruhan 89%. Penilaian kepraktisan media pembelajaran diperoleh skor rata-rata 82% yang termasuk kategori sangat praktis. Hasil analisis kepraktisan diperoleh kategori praktis berdasarkan respon siswa dan guru melalui implementasi pembelajaran. Hasil analisis peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep turunan didapatkan rerata N-gain sebesar 0,548 yang dapat dimaknai bahwa kemampuan pemahaman konsep pada pembelajaran dengan media ini mengalami peningkatan dengan kategori sedang rata-rata hasil test kemampuan pemahaman konsep siswa adalah 66,4 hasil pretest dengan nilai minimun 62,2; maximum 75,6 yang berada pada kategori kemampuan pemahaman konsep siswa yang cukup. Rata-rata postest kemampuan pemahaman konsep siswa adalah 84,9 dengan nilai minimun 73,3; maximum 93,3 yang berada pada kategori kemampuan pemahaman konsep yang tinggi. Produk media pembelajaran Articulate Storyline pada materi Turunan diharapkan dapat menjadi alternatif media pembelajaran pada siswa kelas XI SMA. The ability to understand students' mathematical concepts that are still relatively low requires a handling in the form of learning in accordance with student characteristics and learning material. This can be done by presenting learning media facilitated by teachers as scientific products resulting from the design and development of multimedia programs for Articulate Storyline interaction. This study aims to: (1) describe the process and produce valid and practical Articulate Storyline learning media products; (2) examine the practicality of learning implementation using Articulate Storyline learning media products (3) examine the improvement of students' ability to understand mathematical concepts in derivative material that follows learning assisted by Articulate Storyline learning media. The research data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. This research uses development methods with ADDIE procedural models: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The study involved 32 students of grade XI Science using test sheet instruments, questionnaires, and validation. The results of research on the development of learning media based on Articulate Storyline were obtained valid and very feasible based on the assessment of material experts with an overall average score of 92% and media experts obtained an overall average score of 89%. Assessment of the practicality of learning media obtained an average score of 82% which is included in the very practical category. The results of the practicality analysis obtained practical categories based on student and teacher responses through the implementation of learning. The results of the analysis of increasing the ability to understand derivative concepts obtained an average N-gain of 0.548 which can be interpreted that the ability to understand concepts in learning with this media has increased with the medium category, the average test result of the student's concept understanding ability is 66.4 pretest results with a minimum value of 62.2; Maximum 75.6 which is in the category of sufficient student concept understanding ability. The average postest of students' concept comprehension ability is 84.9 with a minimum score of 73.3; Maximum 93.3 which is in the category of high concept understanding ability. Tiktok Sebagai Media Interaktif Pembelajaran Editing Video

The social media platform TikTok has grown rapidly as one of the main platforms for creative expression and information exchange. This article discusses the use of video editing tools provided by TikTok in creating interesting learning materials for students. We analyze TikTok's creative features including visual effects, music, and quick edits, and illustrate how to apply them to learning. This research involves a qualitative approach through case studies, focusing on the teacher's experience in creating learning materials with the TikTok video editing tool. The findings show that this approach can motivate students by providing visual content that matches the preferences of the younger generation. Students' positive response to this approach indicates increased engagement and interest in learning. However, challenges in utilizing TikTok's video editing tools are also acknowledged. Integrating creativity with substantial content and ensuring the integrity of education is maintained are some of the aspects that must be considered. Ethical and privacy implications are also discussed in the context of the use of social media platforms in education. In conclusion, TikTok's video editing tools offer exciting potential for creating impactful learning materials. With a thoughtful approach, educators can design content that fits current visual trends and communication styles, while maintaining the required educational quality.

PENGIMBASAN PRAKTIK BAIK TENTANG IMPLEMENTASI KURIKULUM MERDEKA

Implementation is the implementation of a plan that has been prepared or assembled in a thorough and detailed manner. In implementing the independent curriculum, especially at SDN 17 Benteng, there are stages of planning, implementation and evaluation. Where, at the planning stage as a school principal you have to plan by making a coaching schedule for all teachers regarding important materials in the independent curriculum. At the implementation stage, the selected teachers create a learning plan that will be given to their students which consists of a new learning paradigm that focuses on active student learning, strengthening Learning Achievements (CP), and understanding learning material through differentiated teaching modules that are appropriate to student learning material. , as well as understanding in strengthening the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5). And at the evaluation stage, the teacher is able to prepare and formulate lessons that will be carried out the next day in each lesson chapter in strengthening the material in each lesson chapter. The Project for Strengthening the Profile of Pancasila Students must first be evaluated by the teacher in order to adjust the needs and characteristics of each student.

Analysis of the Development Needs of HOTS-Based Electronic Student Worksheets with Culturally Responsive Teaching Approach in Elementary Schools

Objective: To address this issue, this research explores the integration of HOTS with the Culturally Responsive Teaching approach in developing Electronic Student Worksheets as a holistic and relevant learning solution. This research analyzes the preliminary development of HOTS-based electronic Student Worksheets with a Culturally Responsive Teaching Approach. Method: This research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach and involves fourth-grade teachers in Pasuruan Regency as research subjects. Sampling is done through purposive sampling. Data collection includes observation, documentation, and interviews. Results: The research begins with a preliminary study to identify the foundations that strengthen the development of electronic Student Worksheets. Then, a field study is conducted by directly observing the teaching materials teachers use in their instruction. Curriculum analysis focuses on Student Worksheets and learning materials. The Student Worksheets teachers use need to integrate HOTS and the Culturally Responsive Teaching approach. This preliminary study findings suggest the need for developing HOTS-based electronic Student Worksheets with a Culturally Responsive Teaching approach so that students can improve their critical thinking skills, learn about the culture of their local area, and appreciate both their own culture and the cultures of others. Novelty: This research implies that implementing HOTS with the Culturally Responsive Teaching approach in elementary education can provide a solid foundation for producing students who are not only academically intelligent but also possess character, critical thinking skills, and an understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity.

A Contrastive Study of Lexical Bundles Expressing Gratitude in Dissertation Acknowledgments Produced by Chinese and American PhD Students of Linguistics

This study compared the five-word lexical bundles (LBs) expressing gratitude in acknowledgments of dissertations written by Chinese and American PhD students of linguistics. Two corpora were built: (1) The Chinese University Dissertation Acknowledgments Collection (CUC) which contained 700 acknowledgments with a total of 300,686 tokens, and (2) the American University Dissertation Acknowledgments Collection (AUC) which contained 700 acknowledgments with a total of 493,045 tokens. We then retrieved five-word LBs, of which LBs expressing gratitude in CUC and AUC were identified, categorized, and compared with respect to frequency, forms and structures. Major findings were: (1) the Chinese students used a substantially greater number of gratitude LBs than the American students, (2) the two groups used considerably different gratitude LBs, and (3) the two groups mainly relied on verb phrase-based LBs to express gratitude, but the Chinese students used a larger proportion of noun phrase- yet a smaller proportion of verb phrase-based items than the American students, and (4) the two groups used dissimilar structures and words to construct gratitude LBs. These findings enrich our knowledge of linguistic patterns in dissertation acknowledgments as a unique genre of academic prose, and provide corpus-based learning materials for students tasked with properly expressing gratitude in their theses or dissertations.

Development of the WeChat Public Account I Love Parasitology and its Preliminary Application in the Teaching of Human Parasitology.

To better construct teaching resources, enhance real-time interaction and feedback between teachers and students in and out of class, and improve the teaching quality of parasitology, our team set up a WeChat public account I love Parasitology. The data sources were mainly from original pictures and multimedia materials of different parasites collected and produced by our team, as well as related materials collected from traditional publications and digital media. With the instant interactive platform, course schedules and corresponding teaching contents were sent by push notifications, case-based learning was carried out, and 2-way communication between students and teachers was achieved. Teaching effectiveness was assessed using a self-evaluation questionnaire. A WeChat public account suitable for our daily teaching of parasitology was established. The second recursion and implementation of the learning resources allowed students to conduct in-depth reading and get unrestricted access to high-quality resources through the public account. In addition, all contents were in digital forms and made the original resources reborn, which would make up for our current and future shortage of physical teaching specimens. Moreover, the results from the questionnaire indicated that all these actions encouraged students to master theoretical knowledge, improved their abilities of case analysis and communication, and increased their knowledge of academic progress. Our WeChat public account can provide excellent learning materials for students and is a good supplement to the routine education of human parasitology.
