Streptomyces thermonitrificans sp.n., a thermophilic streptomycete.

A new species of thermophilicStreptomyces has been isolated from a soil sample collected in Bombay. Its morphological characteristics and physiological behaviour have been studied in detail. It has thus been found to belong to Series XVI-Thermophilus of Waksman's scheme of classification (1961). Its similarity to and differences from a few known species are described. It has been designated asStreptomyces thermonitrificans.
