Invariant imbedding for curved geometries and completeness of the eigenfunctions of the angular redistribution operator

This article contains a brief review of recent progress, due to I. T. Elder, and remaining questions in the application of the method of invariant imbedding to particle transport in curved geometries. Motivated by the techniques used by Elder, a certain completeness theorem is proved for the eigenfunctions of the angular streaming operator in spherical geometry.

Plant‐Scale Comparison of Direct Filtration Versus Conventional Treatment of a Lake Erie Water

Plant‐scale comparison of direct filtration versus conventional treatment was achieved by a split stream operation at a 340‐ML/day (90‐mgd) water treatment plant in the state of New York.

Streaming operators and semigroups

We consider some types of boundary conditions for the streaming operator T in the radiation theory. First, we study the streaming operator in a finite convex body with diffuse reflection boundary conditions and with mixed type boundary conditions. In both cases, we prove that T is the generator of a strongly continuous semigroup, by assuming a suitable smoothness of a surface of the boundary.

Stabilization Pond as a Nitrate Reducing Reactor

Experimental pilot plant studies under controlled conditions in which NO\D3\N-N concentrations ranging from 0.5 to 120 mg/liter were added to influent synthetic waste water; data were collected from measurements of light intensity, pH, temperature, biochemical oxygen, algal population densities, surface tension, and oxidation-reduction potentials; information may be used in stream sanitation and operation and design of stabilization ponds.
