Examining Different Uses of it for Enhancing Service Innovation Performance

ABSTRACT Information technology (IT) is integral to service innovations, yet few efforts investigate how its different use might lead to different innovation outcomes, from a finer-grained perspective. Using the dynamic capabilities of the firm as a framework, we consider IT as an essential enabler of distinct service innovation activities and then use service-dominant logic to augment this high-level framework. The proposed model specifies how IT enables distinct innovation activities, through essential relationships that are associated with different innovation outcomes (radicalness and volume) and firm competitiveness. Our empirical test uses both survey data and accounting-based performance data from major Taiwanese service firms. According to the results, the strategic use of IT in planning activities is more relevant to innovation radicalness. To achieve innovation volume, strategically using IT for both planning and implementation is essential. Overall, customer cocreation strengthens these relationships and, more importantly, IT-enabled knowledge renewal in post-launch refinement activities has a significant, direct effect on firm competitiveness and positively moderates the relationship of innovation radicalness and firm competitiveness.

Application Design of Stock Inventory of Meatball Serving Ingredients for Anhel MSME Bakso

This study aims to develop and implement an inventory management information system for MSME Bakso ANHEL. The system, which enables real-time inventory tracking, order optimization, and improved supply chain efficiency, is a testament to the transformative power of information technology in enhancing the competitiveness of MSMEs. The findings of this study can provide valuable insights for MSME Bakso ANHEL and other similar businesses, equipping them with the tools to address inventory management challenges. The strategic use of information technology is a game-changer for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Exploring the Practice of Enterprise education in Higher education institutions in Information Age

Abstract With the advent of information technology, higher education institutions are urged to elevate the role of enterprise education. This includes a focus on the strategic use of information technology and the platforms that support IT practices, alongside refining the educational and assessment frameworks for enterprise studies. This paper advances enterprise education in higher education institutions by leveraging information technology to enhance the evaluation framework for entrepreneurship and innovation skills. We construct an enterprise education assessment index system and optimize the BP neural network with the ABC algorithm. Additionally, empirical quantitative research utilizing the ABC-BP model explores the effects of enterprise instruction and execution in these institutions. The results of the quantitative analysis show that overall, creativity and enterprise environment are the main factors affecting the implementation of creativity and enterprise (weight 0.722), and there is also a significant correlation between the three aspects of creativity and enterprise awareness (0.134), practice (0.111), and ability. In the percentage of each type of option in the statistics of the effect of the implementation of enterprise education in University X, the percentages of “agree with The total proportion of “agree” and “somewhat agree” is more than half of 70%, indicating that the main body of the survey is more satisfied with the current implementation effect of enterprise education in University X. The effect of the implementation of the University of X is influenced by the degree of knowledge (0.475), the degree of recognition (0.234), etc. which is significant in general. In conclusion, the assessment system for enterprise education in this paper can improve the degree of automation and the teaching effect of creativity and enterprise.

Community Empowerment through Enhancement of Pule Payung Tourist Spot Potential in Soropati, Hargotirto, Kokap, Kulon Progo, Special Region of Yogyakarta

Abstract. This article presents a community service initiative focused on enhancing the potential of Pule Payung, a significant tourist destination in Indonesia, through community empowerment and the strategic use of information technology in tourism promotion. Recognizing the challenges such as inadequate infrastructure and limited understanding of sustainable tourism management, the program provided a series of training and workshops for the local community, including basic IT training, social media and digital platform workshops, TikTok training, and photography and videography training. A sustainable Information Technology Management Team was also formed as part of the service. These efforts were evaluated through continuous mentoring and feedback sessions to ensure their effectiveness. The initiative resulted in the creation of effective digital content for promoting Pule Payung, with the local community playing an active role. The service project showcases the potential of combining community empowerment and digital technology to augment tourism, yielding broader economic, social, and environmental benefits for local communities and the wider Indonesian society.

Does Governance in Information Technology Matter When It Comes to Organizational Performance in Pakistani Public Sector Organizations? Mediating Effect of Innovation

Information technology governance (ITG) is recognized as a vital organizational ability to exploit opportunities for innovation and enhance organizational performance. However, the potential of ITG for public sector innovation and performance has not been fully grasped in Pakistani public sector organizations (PakPSOs). This study has presented an explanatory model to investigate the mediating effect of innovation in the relationship between ITG and organizational performance in PakPSOs. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM)–based hierarchical component modeling approach has applied to analyze the model by taking sample data from 97 PakPSOs. The results revealed that ITG positively affected innovation and organizational performance. Innovation positively affected organizational performance. Innovation partially mediated the relationship between ITG and organizational performance. The study corroborates the strategic use of information technology (IT) to enhance innovation and organizational performance in this context. The study contributes to the existing knowledge base through a new theoretical model and promotes academic rigor. The results are also significant for the practice as they can help to achieve organizational performance in terms of operational efficiency, transparency in costs and results, planning and decision making, performance monitoring and control, and collaboration and synergy. The other countries operating in a similar environment can also take the benefit of this study.

Information Communication Technology as a Strategic Resource in Enhancing Business Performance of Small Hotels in Ghana

Information communication technology as a business-enhancing strategy to improve business is on the ascendancy. However, a survey in 2016 visualises that 70% of the hotels especially the small hotels across the globe follow the old marketing practices due to poor marketing. Ghana is not exempted from these strategies, as small hotels appears to be operating but in reality, are just adding to hotels number. With a population size of three hundred and sixty-nine, the study seeks to investigate the strategic uses of information communication technology as a resource and its influence on hotel business. The result from respondents indicates that, the strategic use of information technology as a resource by the small size hotels influence performance. Some of the business information communication technology impact is online reservations, communication with guests and improvement in service quality that leads to customer satisfaction. Above all, it offers many options for small hotels in capturing their market space online using information communication technology.

 Digitalization is held to be a key component in transforming the public administration into a reflexive, flexible and dynamic organization. For this to be realized, digitalization, i.e. the strategic use of Information Technology (IT) in innovating workflows, needs to become a part of the organizational identity. Drawing on the concepts of institutional logics and institutional work this paper uses a qualitative case study of two Danish local administrations to explore the institutionalization of digitalization. The paper describes the intra-organizational presence of diverging perceptions of the role of IT in digitaliza- tion and illustrates how institutional work within the organizations was loosely organized around specific characters – the Mediators, the Preachers and the Gatekeepers – with the purpose of bridging these differences into a nuanced institution of digitalization. By showing that the organization of institutional work within an organization is not only shaped by but also a strategic response to diverging institutional logics, the paper makes an important contribution to the debate on the relation between institutional work and institutional logics. The findings make the paper urge the local administrations to accept a more nuanced institutionalization of digitalization, and to highlight the key role, the mid- level manager as a Mediator plays in this regard.
 
 

Framework to Analyze EMR - EHR Adoption at an Indian Healthcare Conglomerate

This paper presents the Strategic Use of Information Technology across a private for-profit healthcare organization in India. Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems implemented at some of the private hospitals have ushered in a new era of Health Information Technology (HIT) and enabled better and faster medical treatment. Owing to the rising demand of healthcare and medical facilities, many non-govt. players have also joined the competition. Apollo Hospitals has been a pioneer in technology adoption across its branches, in its endeavor to bring healthcare facilities of international standards in India. We thus attempt to comprehend the current strategic position at Apollo and identify the factors responsible for the successful adoption and diffusion of EMR. However, since only a few of its branches have actually achieved the technological superiority, we also try to chart Apollo in the strategic grid and across the degree of collaboration-mediation. Hence, in this paper, a future course of action, for faster adoption and diffusion of technology is also recommended.

Performance effects of aligning service innovation and the strategic use of information technology

In the current dramatically changing business environment, innovation capability is the key to attaining competitive advantages for firms. Drawing on the concept of alignment, the present research proposes a service innovation alignment model within which service innovation and strategic use of information technology (IT) coexist in evaluating performance. Data for hypotheses testing are collected from top-ranked service companies in Taiwan. A total of 165 surveys were collected. Performance implications of alignment are examined using fit as covariation approach. The findings demonstrate that the alignment between service innovation and the strategic use of IT has significant impacts on service innovation performance as well as business performance.

Non-business E-Commerce in Malaysia: An Investigation of Key Adoption

Problem statement: Non-business EC is a relatively new research niche in the general e-commerce stream. Application of e-commerce by profit oriented organization already become bread and butter but still limited applied in non-business sectors such as academic institutions (as in the present study), non-profit organizations, religious organizations and government agencies. Nowadays e-commerce becomes crucially essential in reducing their expenses and improving their operations. Therefore, application of this new innovation should enhance to no non-business sectors to be livelier. Understanding the key factors of facilitating and adopting the e-commerce in non-business are still need to enrich in particularly within Malaysian context. A field survey was conducted to determine key factors that facilitate the adoption of non-business EC in Malaysian Universities. Approach: One main focus of IT implementation research has been to determine why people accept or reject new technology. The current research will explore why Non-business institutions will accept or reject e-commerce. Since e-commerce adoption decision is a strategic one, a comprehensive list of potential facilitators and non-facilitators for the strategic use of information technology was derived from past research. Thus factors used as the basis for collecting data from 65 schools, centers and units from 5 public universities in Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Lumpur. These data were factor-analyzed to determine the key underlying dimensions of facilitators. On the basis of the resulting 5 dimensions namely, relative advantage, network orientation, information efficiency, innovativeness and competitiveness, regression analysis was done to determine the impact of the 5 dimensions on adoption. Results: They suggest that relative advantage, network orientation and information efficiency are the most important facilitators to the used of e-commerce in non-business sectors. Inhibitors were not estimated eventually, as there were no non-users among the respondents. Conclusion: The results implies the non-business sectors should look into advantages, network orientation and information efficiency as a strategic based for implementing e-commerce in more effective manner to achieve their goals.

A Conceptual Model of Value Creation at the Base of the Pyramid and in Electronic Business Firms: An Integration of Theoretical Perspectives

While electronic business has created unprecedented value for Internet firms and other industries, the sources of value creation have remained ambiguous. Since such sources of value creation and the action repertoires of these firms are essential to their survival, there is continued interest in this stream of research. Although value creation in electronic business has been studied by both strategy and IS researchers, empirical evidence for value creation through specific mechanisms is still lacking. For instance, how does IT contribute to value creation in electronic business environments through efficiency, novelty and complementarities? I build on prior research to examine two sources of value creation in electronic business – IT patents and IT-enabled coordination mechanisms. While prior research has indicated that IT patents enable firms to execute a variety of strategic actions, which can create value, theoretical justifications for the role of such novelty have been lacking. Similarly, while IT-enabled coordination has been studied to understand their role in business value creation, specific mechanisms in electronic business and their impact on efficiency gains need to be clarified. Finally, there is also a need to understand the role of IT patents in enabling complementarities with other innovative activity.I examine the role of IT enabled coordination mechanisms and IT patents through three frameworks from strategy namely Porter’s five forces framework, the resource-based view of the firm and the dynamic capabilities framework in providing competitive advantage for firms. Using the dynamic capabilities framework as the theory base, I then analyze the impact of IT enabled coordination mechanisms on the organizational processes in electronic business as well as the role of patenting business processes on the impact of organizational capabilities on electronic business performance. I then develop a theoretical framework and a set of propositions to investigate value creation in electronic business through the strategic use of Information Technology (IT). Furthermore, I integrate the dynamic capabilities perspectives with the coordination theory perspectives to integrate the micro-level views about coordination mechanisms with the macro-level views about capabilities. The investigation of these mechanisms suggests that the strategic use of IT can indeed create sustainable value in electronic business and that the dynamic capabilities framework can be a suitable theory base for investigating such impacts.

IT and the Board of Directors: An Empirical Investigation into the “Governance Questions” Canadian Board Members Ask about IT

ABSTRACT: In modern organizations, information technologies (IT) often help drive organizational strategies. As such, IT require both judicious planning and oversight. While executive oversight over IT is quite common nowadays, several studies indicate that due to the many benefits and risks associated with IT, more/better board-level oversight may be in order. Unfortunately, there is a scarcity of research on the involvement of board members in IT governance. We attempt to partially fill this gap by empirically examining the degree to which the 27 IT governance questions that make up an IT board governance framework recommended by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants are raised by the board members of 94 Canadian firms. We also investigate the extent to which the questions are considered important. Our findings show that: board members use only some of the IT governance questions and not all the recommended ones; there is a gap between the IT governance questions board members ask and the ones they perceive to be important; and the number and importance of IT governance questions that board members ask appear to vary with both their organization’s strategic use of IT and the need for IT reliability. Implications for research and practice are offered.

Strategic Use of Information Technology in the Spanish Microfinance Sector

This paper analyzes the relationships between IT and microfinance in a developed country. Its main purpose is the study of the intensity of IT use in the sector, focusing on IT-related management of its organizations. Two different goals related to actual IT use have been identified. Information Technologies have indeed been used as a tool to provide information, both to prospective clients and with a more general scope. Furthermore, improvements on management due to IT use have also been encountered, such as on-line direct support to would-be entrepreneurs through specific software. The paper also considers whether IT use adds effective value to the performance of some or all Spanish Microfinance Institutions (MFIs). It is found that such strategic use of IT is less widespread, related primarily to financial transparency issues, more clearly shown by MFIs linked to the social economy.

Modelo de gestão municipal baseado na utilização estratégica de recursos da tecnologia da informação para a gestão governamental: formatação do modelo e avaliação em um município

São desafios constantes da gestão efetiva dos municípios a estruturação e disponibilização de informações confiáveis, oportunas e personalizadas para apoiar as decisões da administração pública municipal e para elaborar e controlar o planejamento estratégico municipal alinhado aos anseios dos cidadãos. A adaptação de modelos de gestão da iniciativa privada para o ambiente público é uma alternativa para enfrentar esses desafios. Este artigo propõe e avalia um modelo para a gestão governamental. O modelo é baseado na utilização estratégica da tecnologia da informação, que proporcione ao gestor público monitoração e controle da execução estratégica, informações executivas para a tomada de decisão, gestão dos relacionamentos com os cidadãos e o domínio sobre os processos da gestão municipal. A metodologia da pesquisa enfatizou o estudo de caso no município de Curitiba, utilizando um protocolo de pesquisa elaborado a partir da pesquisa bibliográfica exploratória. A seguir, são analisados diferenças, similaridades e resultados da aplicação de elementos que compõem o modelo proposto no município estudado. A conclusão evidencia que a utilização e adaptação do modelo proposto nas gestões municipais podem contribuir significativamente na evolução de seus modelos de gestão.

Factors Influencing Strategic Use of Information Technology and Its Impact on Business Performance of SMEs

In this paper, we study the relationship between factors influencing the strategic use of IT and business performance by conducting a survey of small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs). From the results of our survey we came to several conclusions which are presented here. First, IT investment has a significant impact on the strategic use of IT, and the strategic use of IT has a significant impact on business performance. Second, SME investment in IT and strategic use of IT are influenced by both the intensity of competition in the market environment and partnership with other organizations. Third, the support from the management group in SMEs is a core factor for IT investment and strategic use of IT. Finally, for SMEs to use IT strategically and successfully, it is necessary to combine members’ participation with a flexible organizational structure and culture.

The Strategic Use of Information Technology by Nonprofit Organizations: Increasing Capacity and Untapped Potential

How are nonprofits using information technology to enhance mission‐related outcomes and boost organizational performance? The authors examine a large‐scale survey of nonprofits’ technology planning, acquisition, and implementation to assess the strategic use of IT in these organizations. They evaluate nonprofits’ strategic technology‐use potential by examining IT‐related competencies and practices that are critical for the successful strategic employment of technology resources. Several promising developments are found, alongside significant deficits in the strategic utilization of IT, especially in the areas of financial sustainability, strategic communications and relationship building, and collaborations and partnerships. To boost IT’s mission‐related impact, nonprofits must enhance their organizational capacities in long‐term IT planning, budgeting, staffing, and training; performance measurement; Internet and Web site capabilities; and the vision, support, and involvement of senior management.

Diffusion of Innovation - The Adoption of Electronic Commerce by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMES)- A Comparative Analysis

This paper explores the issues that influence the diffusion of innovation as it relates to the adoption of e-commerce by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). It seeks to identify factors facilitating and inhibiting such adoption across contexts – regional, small city and large city. This analysis is cross cultural so the impact of differing economic and cultural issues also will be identified in this research. Whilst it is generally accepted that the strategic use of information technology (IT) is vital in the marketplace, the rate of such uptake between small and large businesses varies. This research seeks to identify the reasons for this variation. It is critical to understand such factors so that steps can be taken to redress inequity of uptake that might be identified. The paper endeavours to explore factors that are needed to facilitate and encourage IT adoption and so positively influence user acceptance and use of IT innovations in SMEs. Reasons for such uptake as well as strategic approach to the adoption of e-commerce, and variations regarding same also will be considered. The paper examines existing theory as it pertains to the diffusion of innovation acknowledging the perspective of regional and urban SMEs in various cultural contexts. Empirical investigation exploring this diffusion, the rate of and approach to the uptake by SMEs is planned using a case study methodology

Innovation in Information Systems Education-II Enterprise IS Management: A Capstone Course for Undergraduate IS Majors

As information technology becomes increasingly embedded in critical business processes, IT professionals continually seek to improve the security, reliability and performance of the systems for which they are responsible. Systems and network applications vendors are unveiling a wide array of new products designed to assist in this effort and the trade literature is devoting significant coverage to the IT operations processes required to achieve required IT service levels. Despite increasing industry attention to the importance of IS operations, the authors believe that such concerns are relatively unaddressed in the typical undergraduate business-oriented IS curriculum. This article describes a course currently offered at the authors’ university that conceptualizes the enterprise management of IS as including both IS governance and IS management processes. The distinction allows for coverage of traditional content related to the strategic use of information technology while providing an increased focus on IT operational management issues.
