ACCREDITATION EXPERTISE OF THE “GENERAL MEDICINE” TRAINING PROGRAM FOR THE SPECIALTY 222 “MEDICINE” OF THE SECOND (MASTER’S) LEVEL OF HIGHER EDUCATION AT IVAN HORBACHEVSKY TERNOPIL NATIONAL MEDICAL UNIVERSITY OF THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH OF UKRAINE

The article characterizes the procedure of accreditation expertise of the “General Medicine” training program for the second (master’s) level in the specialty 222 “Medicine”, implemented at Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The relevance of the topic is determined by new approaches to the accreditation of educational programs in Ukraine, which require the implementation of autonomous methods for managing the quality of education in accordance with European standards. The results of the expertise carried out by the members of the expert group and the sectoral expert council of the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance (NAQA) was analysed. The article describes how the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Accreditation Commission, and the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance conduct monitoring of training programs through assessing their compliance with established standards. The research shows that accreditation not only determines the quality of education but also helps identify the strengths and weaknesses of training programs, providing information to all stakeholders. The main results of the expert evaluation highlight a high level of training for specialists in line with current labour market demands and emphasize the importance of adapting curricula to the conditions of healthcare reform. The article underscores the significance of ongoing monitoring of education quality to enhance the competitiveness of graduates. The manuscript focuses on the uniqueness and advantages of the training program, its evaluation, as well as the recommendations and suggestions provided by NAQA experts.

Research of opportunities for the ecosystem approach to career planning by students at the State University of Management

The article presents the results of studying the possibilities of an ecosystem approach to career planning by students at the State University of Management (hereinafter referred to as SUM). At first, the gap between the level of practical training of graduates of Russian universities and the requirements of employers has been actualised. Then, the need for joint efforts of all interested labour market participants to create conditions for students’ conscious planning of career growth at all stages of education is emphasised. The experience of intra-university cooperation using the STC (student team consulting) method between the marketing department and practical training department in 2022–2023 has showed that solving this problem involves integrating, on an ecosystem basis, activities for the study of professional academic disciplines, project-based learning, practical training, and employment. As an experiment, 6 student consulting teams have solved a set of interrelated tasks, including the creation and ongoing maintenance of the Career Centre page in the VK social network, advertising campaigns and interviews at “Career Day in Transport and Logistics”, surveys on the employment of graduates and assessment of student satisfaction with practical training, analytical review of the labour market in Russia in 2020–2023 with a report at the All-Russian scientific and practical conference, examination of 5 ideas for marketing research projects in the field of career planning by students of the SUM with testing in social networks and assessments of the influence of actors in its ecosystem. In conclusion, based on the results of the research, the directions for the ecosystem approach to career planning by students at the SUM are formulated.

A metagenomic catalogue of the ruminant gut archaeome

While the ruminant gut archaeome regulates the gut microbiota and hydrogen balance, it is also a major producer of the greenhouse gas methane. However, ruminant gut archaeome diversity within the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) of ruminant animals worldwide remains largely underexplored. Here, we construct a catalogue of 998 unique archaeal genomes recovered from the GITs of ruminants, utilizing 2270 metagenomic samples across 10 different ruminant species. Most of the archaeal genomes (669/998 = 67.03%) belong to Methanobacteriaceae and Methanomethylophilaceae (198/998 = 19.84%). We recover 47/279 previously undescribed archaeal genomes at the strain level with completeness of >80% and contamination of <5%. We also investigate the archaeal gut biogeography across various ruminants and demonstrate that archaeal compositional similarities vary significantly by breed and gut location. The catalogue contains 42,691 protein clusters, and the clustering and methanogenic pathway analysis reveal strain- and host-specific dependencies among ruminant animals. We also find that archaea potentially carry antibiotic and metal resistance genes, mobile genetic elements, virulence factors, quorum sensors, and complex archaeal viromes. Overall, this catalogue is a substantial repository for ruminant archaeal recourses, providing potential for advancing our understanding of archaeal ecology and discovering strategies to regulate methane production in ruminants.

Current challenges and threats to the implementation of social policy under the conditions of marital state

The problems of the implementation of social policy are currently determined by the accumulated problem of the unreformed sector of the social sphere and the extremely negative impact of the martial law, which leads to an increase in the critical mass of people who need social assistance and effective solutions that can contribute to the implementation of social policy in accordance with current challenges and threats. This article focuses on identifying and structuring current challenges and threats to the implementation of social policy under martial law. It is established that, given the longterm nature of martial law, social policy is currently under the critical influence of pre2022 problems, which are exacerbated by a large-scale invasion, and the structuring of current challenges and threats that are characteristic of the current state of social policy implementation, given martial law, is an important and relevant topic for research. After all, today the issue of clearly fixing and structuring the current challenges and threats to the implementation of social policy in the conditions of martial law is acute. The purpose of the article is to define and structure the current challenges and threats to the implementation of the social sphere in the conditions of martial law. In the process of research, it was established that in today’s conditions, the implementation of social policy has significant limitations and barriers. Four groups of institutional restrictions are identified, which include the inconsistency of the legal framework; bureaucratic obstacles; insufficient coordination between various state authorities; low level of professional training of social workers. Three groups of obstacles to the effective implementation of social policy are also highlighted, namely: economic, political, and corruption. The main types of threats are identified, including: financial, social, technical and security, each of which creates a whole range of challenges. The following challenges have a high priority to be taken into account in the implementation of social policy: the problem of the state budget deficit, dependence on international donors, the increase in the number of people who need social protection, the decrease in the standard of living and the provision of housing, the further course of military operations and their intensity, internal instability. It was established that further research should be focused on finding effective tools that will allow, taking into account the existing risks and threats, to develop appropriate mechanisms for minimizing the identified threats and challenges for the effective implementation of social policy as quickly as possible.

Relevance: In recent years, the Russian Federation has paid close attention to the official activities of employees of the internal affairs bodies from authorities, public organizations and institutions, and the population. First of all, we are talking about the observance by the employees of the internal affairs bodies of the norms of morality and ethics, rules of conduct in everyday life and speech culture. State policy determines the main areas of activity of the internal affairs bodies of the Russian Federation. Thus, in the decisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation it has been repeatedly noted that the successful solution of the tasks facing the internal affairs bodies largely depends on the level of training of the personnel. Fostering high civic, professional, psychological and moral qualities in employees, as well as the formation of a high professional culture, one of the key competencies of which is proficiency in language as a means of communication, strengthening the authority of the internal affairs bodies in society, increasing the prestige of the service are priority goals in the activities of the police and are regulated by the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia dated December 25, 2020 No. 900 "Issues of organizing moral and psychological support for the activities of the internal affairs bodies of the Russian Federation". Therefore, the problem of general language processes occurring in the internal affairs bodies of the Russian Federation at present leads to the need to study the features of communication underlying official activity, and therefore to its creator - the "linguistic personality". Statement of the problem: The article considers the issues of state support for traditional values ​​in the Russian Federation, the need to protect the norms of the Russian literary language, the role of language in human life. What are the features of the "linguistic personality"? One of the important conditions for the formation of a person's pedagogical culture is the study of pedagogical thought that has gone through a centuries-old historical path. The article considers the main and most significant stages in the development of the education system in the world, as well as domestic pedagogy, the founder of which is K.D. Ushinsky. Purpose of the study: clarification of the definition of "linguistic personality" based on the presented basic concepts of "linguistic personality" formed in world linguistics. Research methods: analysis of modern scientific definitions of the concepts of "personality", "linguistic personality", generalization of the results obtained. Results and key findings: the conducted research allowed us to formulate and propose the author's definition of the concept of "linguistic personality", which is proposed to be understood as a bearer of cultural and linguistic values, endowed with will and aspirations, moods and assessments, and also fully using language in business communication, professional activities and in everyday life.

Analysis of Mechanical Properties and Thermal Conductivity of Thin-Ply Laminates in Ambient and Cryogenic Conditions

It is widely known that glass–epoxy laminates are renowned for their high stiffness, good thermal properties, and economic qualities. For this reason, composite materials find successful applications in various industrial sectors such as aerospace, astronautics, the storage sector, and energy. The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanical and thermal properties of composite materials comprising two different types of epoxy resin and three different hardeners, both at room temperature and under cryogenic conditions. The samples were produced at IZOERG (Gliwice, Poland) using a laboratory hot-hydraulic-press technique. During cyclic loading–unloading tests, degradation up to a strain level of 0.6% was observed both at room temperature (RT) and at 77 K. For a glass-reinforced composite with YDPN resin (EP_1_1), the highest degradation was recorded at 18.84% at RT and 33.63% at 77 K. We have also investigated the temperature dependence of thermal conductivity for all samples in a wide temperature range down to 5 K. The thermal conductivity was found to be low and had a relative difference of up to 20% among the composites. The experimental results indicated that composites under cryogenic conditions exhibited less damage and were stiffer. It was confirmed that the choice of hardener significantly influenced both properties.

Microstructural Evolution and Mechanical Properties of Reeled X65 Pipeline Steel during Cyclic Plastic Deformation and Natural Aging

The reel laying is recognized as a cost‐effective installation process for offshore pipelines. However, the mechanical properties are modified due to plastic deformation during the reel laying and lowering process of reeled pipelines and the subsequent natural aging in service. Cyclic plastic deformation (CPD) is conducted on X65 pipeline steel to simulate the strain experienced in the reel‐laying and lowering process, and then, the CPD specimen is aged at 250 °C to simulate natural aging in service. The dislocation configurations gradually evolve from dislocation lines and tangles into dislocation walls and cells due to the increase in strain level. After CPD and aging, the tensile strength increases by about 25 MPa, which is not significantly affected by the last introduced load direction and strain level. At the end of compressive loading, the yield strength and yield ratio decrease, but the uniform elongation increases significantly. In contrast, at the end of tensile loading, the yield strength and yield ratio increase, but the uniform elongation decreases slightly. The yield strength further increases as the strain level increases from 2 to 3%. Therefore, CPD and aging modify the mechanical properties of X65, considerably depending on the last introduced load direction and strain level.

Development and validation of a novel AI framework using NLP with LLM integration for relevant clinical data extraction through automated chart review.

The accurate extraction of surgical data from electronic health records (EHRs), particularly operative notes through manual chart review (MCR), is complex, crucial, and time-intensive, limited by human error due to fatigue and the level of training. This study aimed to develop and validate a novel Natural Language Processing (NLP) algorithm integrated with a Large Language Model (LLM; GPT4-Turbo) to automate the extraction of spinal surgery data from EHRs. The algorithm employed a two-stage approach. Initially, a rule-based NLP framework reviewed and classified candidate segments from the text, preserving their reference segments. These segments were then verified in the second stage through the LLM. The primary outcomes of this study were the accurate extraction of surgical data, including the type of surgery, levels operated, number of disks removed, and presence of intraoperative incidental durotomies. Secondary objectives explored time efficiency, tokenization lengths, and costs. The performance of the algorithm was assessed across two validation databases, analyzing metrics such as accuracy, sensitivity, discrimination, F1-score, and precision, with 95% confidence intervals calculated using percentile-based bootstrapping. The NLP + LLM algorithm markedly outperformed all performance metrics, demonstrating significant improvements in time and cost efficiency. These results suggest the potential for widespread adoption of this technology.

The impact of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic on educational and professional growth of young Italian epileptologists: a survey of the Young Epilepsy Section-Italian chapter.

In March 2020, the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus-related disease SARS-CoV-2 infection pandemic. Italy was one of the most affected countries and managed the emergency also by a health care reorganization. The Education and Career Development Task Force of the Young Epilepsy Section-Italy (YES-I) designed a survey to assess the impact of the pandemic on the training and work of young epileptologists (< 40years). Fifty-three responses were collected: 45.3% were resident, 9.4% PhD students and the remainder specialists. Clinical activity changed for most (83%) during the pandemic. Educational activity at epilepsy centers was reduced for 35.8% of the survey participants, while 30.2% of research projects involving patients participation were stopped to switch mainly to COVID-19-related research. For 73.6% of survey participants, attending online courses and congresses was easier in terms of cost and organization, although for 50.9% the level of training was lower in quality. In contrast, 58.5% rated the webinars organized by YES-I very educational. Less than 50% of the clinicians used telemedicine in the pandemic period and continue to use it. Despite several positive aspects of virtual medicine, a small number (32.1%) of our interviewees were satisfied from telemedicine and few of them (30.2%) reported that it led to improvement of clinical practice. Our survey showed that the pandemic has had a negative impact on training, research and clinical activity in the epilepsy field; moreover, it underlined the critical aspects of virtual communication methods in order to improve its use for the future.

Longitudinal genomic surveillance of a UK intensive care unit shows a lack of patient colonisation by multi-drug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial pathogens.

Vulnerable patients in an intensive care unit (ICU) setting are at high risk of infection from bacteria including gut-colonising Escherichia coli and Klebsiella species. Complex ICU procedures often depend on successful antimicrobial treatment, underscoring the importance of understanding the extent of patient colonisation by multi-drug-resistant organisms (MDROs) in large UK ICUs. Previous work on ICUs globally uncovered high rates of colonisation by transmission of MDROs, but the situation in UK ICUs is less understood. Here, we investigated the diversity and antibiotic resistance gene (ARG) carriage of bacteria present in one of the largest UK ICUs at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB), focusing primarily on E. coli as both a widespread commensal and a globally disseminated multi-drug-resistant pathogen. Samples were taken during highly restrictive coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) control measures from May to December 2021. Whole-genome and metagenomic sequencing were used to detect and report strain-level colonisation of patients, focusing on E. coli sequence types (STs), their colonisation dynamics and antimicrobial resistance gene carriage. We found a lack of multi-drug resistance (MDR) in the QEHB. Only one carbapenemase-producing organism was isolated, a Citrobacter carrying bla KPC-2. There was no evidence supporting the spread of this strain, and there was little evidence overall of nosocomial acquisition or circulation of colonising E. coli. Whilst 22 different E. coli STs were identified, only 1 strain of the pandemic ST131 lineage was isolated. This ST131 strain was non-MDR and was found to be a clade A strain, associated with low levels of antibiotic resistance. Overall, the QEHB ICU had very low levels of pandemic or MDR strains, a result that may be influenced in part by the strict COVID-19 control measures in place at the time. Employing some of these infection prevention and control measures where reasonable in all ICUs might therefore assist in maintaining low levels of nosocomial MDR.

Does Fusobacterium in Colorectal Cancer Sites Originate From the Oral Cavity? A Pilot Study.

Fusobacterium can contribute to oral diseases, but also pose as a systemic risk factor. This genus, and especially F. nucleatum, can be found in colorectal cancer (CRC) tissue and is involved in multiple aspects of this type of cancer. Previous studies indicated a possible oral origin of these bacteria; however, stronger evidence is needed to reach a definitive conclusion. This pilot study aimed to establish a method to successfully compare, at the strain level, fusobacteria from the oral cavity and CRC resection material for future cohort studies of CRC patients. In a first cohort of eight periodontitis patients, gingival crevicular fluid and saliva were collected. Fusobacterium was isolated on two different media. In a second cohort, saliva and CRC resection material were collected from ten CRC patients. These samples were used for screening of Fusobacterium with culturing, 16S rRNA gene profiling and a PCR-based approach. In the first cohort, different Fusobacterium species were identified in GCF and saliva samples. However, as the total yield of Fusobacterium seemed slightly higher in saliva samples, it was therefore preferred for subsequent sample collection. Thus, in the second cohort, patient-matched saliva and CRC resection material were screened for Fusobacterium and this showed that nine patients were culture-positive in the saliva samples; however, no Fusobacterium could be isolated from the resection material. On the other hand, 16S rRNA gene profiling of the resection material indicated that eight CRC patients were positive for Fusobacterium. All eight of these patients carried Fusobacterium in their saliva, indicated by both marker gene PCR and culture-based screening. These pilot results are compatible with data from previous studies, indicating a possible link between oral and CRC-associated Fusobacterium, and a more in-depth analysis of specific strains and their characteristics in a larger cohort is justified. The protocol was registered at clinicaltrials.gov (NCT05945082).

Evaluation of Growth and Yield of Vertically Trained Watermelon [Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. &amp; Nakai] under Different Levels of Spacing, Training and Pruning under Rain Shelter

This study investigated the effects of spacing, training and pruning on the growth and yield of watermelon hybrid ‘Saraswati’ trained vertically under rain shelter. The treatments were factorial combinations of three planting densities (1.50 m × 0.60 m, 1.50 m × 0.45 m and 1.50 m × 0.30 m), two training levels (nipping to one vine, nipping to two vines) and two pruning heights (pruned at 2m and unpruned) arranged in randomized block design with two replications and control with horizontal training of vines in open condition. Spacing, training and pruning levels had varying influence on growth and yield parameters of vertically trained watermelon. Wider spacing of 1.5 m x 0.6 m recorded the highest vine length, highest fruit weight and yield per plant (6.82 kg). Earliness in days to flowering as well as node number was observed in widely spaced plants trained to single vine. Plants trained to two vines exhibited the highest number of fruits per plant, yield per plant and yield per plot. Unpruned plants trained to two vines at closer spacing of 1.50 m × 0.30 m recorded the highest number of fruits per plant and yield per plot (90.10 kg).

Perceptions of homelessness: Is there variation across medical careers and specialties?

Medical students, residents and faculty are all capable of holding biases towards stigmatised groups like people experiencing homelessness. This study sought to investigate how the level of training may influence perceptions of homelessness among medical students, residents and faculty. Additionally, we sought to understand how different specialities perceive people experiencing homelessness and whether this changes at various points in a career. The Health Professionals' Attitudes Towards the Homeless Inventory (HPATHI) was administered to medical students, residents and faculty at one institution in the United States. Basic demographics as well as length of time spent in practice were collected in addition to HPATHI responses. A total of 1,141 individuals were invited to complete the survey, including 736 medical students, 214 residents and 191 faculty. Two hundred and ninety individuals participated in the survey and 238 recorded complete responses were analysed for a sample response rate of 238/1141 (20.9%.) Overall perceptions of homelessness across the entire sample were positive and not greatly influenced by the level of training during a medical career. Medical students across classes were largely in agreement and there was a noticeable increase in positive perceptions for students engaged in clinical rotations. However, clinical specialties demonstrated wide variation in perceptions, with the most prominent differences amongst individuals from surgical subspecialties of General Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Our study demonstrates the largely favourable attitudes physicians, residents and students have towards people experiencing homelessness with implications for future work to support greater exposure to underserved populations during training. Specialty choice appears to play a larger role in the formation of attitudes towards underserved populations rather than the length of time spent in a particular specialty.

Strain-insensitive fiber sensors bioinspired by spider silk with a multilevel helical structure

The emergence of wearable electronics has greatly stimulated the exploration of fibers due to their inherent wearing comfort. However, the manufacturing of conductive fibers with both exceptional mechanical strength and stable conductive properties remains a formidable challenge. Inspired by the helical structure of spider silk, we propose a strain-insensitive conductive fiber with a multilevel helical structure by helically arranging carbon fibers on the surface of helical polyurethane nanofibers, which is further employed in the fabrication of fiber sensors. The resulting fibers demonstrate outstanding strain stability with a resistance change rate (ΔR/R0) of less than 0.09 when the strain reaches 100% and a resistance change rate below 0.3 at the 200% strain level, significantly outperforming previous reports. Through experimental investigations and computational analysis, we elucidate that the underlying mechanism of the superior conductive performance and stability is attributed to the redundant helical structures and polyurethane nanofiber core layer contraction. Moreover, the fiber devices fabricated on the basis of our strain-insensitive conductive fibers exhibit distinguished performance in various health-related physiological signal monitoring tasks, such as respiration heat monitoring, voice recording, and electrochemical detection of sweat constituents.

Regulation of the RCK1 gene on the oxidative tolerance of Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Our previous work indicated that the quorum sensing (QS) effect could regulate the oxidative tolerance of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and QS may impact oxidative and antioxidative metabolisms of S. cerevisiae by regulating the RCK1 gene. Therefore, this work proposed a reasonable logic that RCK1 could play roles in regulating the oxidative and antioxidative metabolisms of yeast cells. The results presented here suggested that the overexpression of RCK1 has a regulatory effect on the reduction of ROS level and the promotion of oxidative tolerance of S. cerevisiae. The overexpression of RCK1 promoted the ROS generation through activating the MAPK pathway; on the other hand, RCK1-regulated antioxidative metabolism played a more significant role to realize lower ROS level and higher oxidative tolerance of S288c-RCK1 and ΔARO80-RCK1 strains. To improve the fermentation performance of yeast while circumventing metabolic burden, a recombinant strain with over time-controlled overexpression of the RCK1 gene (i.e., S288c'-RCK1 strain) derived from S288c strain was successfully constructed to achieve artificial regulation of yeast oxidative tolerance. Transcriptomics analysis was further performed on both S. cerevisiae wild-type and S288c'-RCK1 strains to identify differentially expressed genes and analyze their functional pathway classification. This work is instructive for artificially modulating the oxidative tolerance of strains to enhance the fermentation performance of yeast.

Influence of clinical experience in detecting calcifications of the head and neck region on panoramic radiographs: an app-based evaluation

Introduction: Digital panoramic radiographs (DPRs) are used in dental practice as the first diagnostic tool for the initial detection of head and neck regions soft-tissue calcifications. The aim of this study was to use a self-developed application (App) to evaluate the ability of dental students at different levels of training to examine known DPRs with different soft-tissue calcification. Methods: A total of known 100 DPRs with (n=50) and without (n=50) calcification were independently evaluated by four groups: preclinical, first clinical and last clinical dental students, and dentists with less than or equal to 1 year of professional experience in the same time (15 min) and examination conditions. Unity software was used to develop the examination App, which allowed to mark areas with calcifications on the DPRs. The data were statistically analyzed between the groups (significance level: P&lt;0.05) for every location, and the detection rate was calculated as a percentage of detected calcifications. Results: Results revealed that the overall detection rate of calcifications in all groups was 29.17%. Dentists exhibited the highest detection rate (36.46%), followed by the last- (29.69%), first- (32.29%), and preclinical (15.10%) students. Conclusion: These findings suggest that clinical experience plays a role in the correct detection of soft-tissue calcifications in DPRs. However, deficiencies in radiological training during dental education may contribute to diagnostic errors. As these can become life-threatening risks, the results highlight the need for early training in the dental curriculum to improve diagnostic performance and minimize possible diagnostic errors.

On the dynamic failure mechanism of Vit-1 bulk metallic glass: coupling effects of pre-made damage and strain rate

To clarify the two distinct effects and the underlying physical mechanisms of pre-made damage on the failure strength of bulk metallic glass (BMG), i.e. strengthening or weakening, the influence of axial pre-compression on the dynamic failure of Vit-1 BMG are investigated experimentally. Quasi-static and dynamic compression tests were conducted on pre-compressed BMG specimens for a wide range of nominal strain rates between 0.001 s-1 to 6000 s-1. The focus is on the coupled effects of pre-compression and strain rate on the dynamic failure stress. Two contrasting mechanisms were identified that influence how the pre-made shear bands affect the propagation of cracks under different strain rates. It will be shown that the dynamic failure stress exhibits a transition from strengthening to knockdown with increasing strain rate; and, that the extent of these strengthening and knockdown effects depends on the pre-compression strain level. Finally, a failure model that captures the effects of both strain rate and pre-made damage is proposed.

Characterization of compressive fracture strain based on bilinear strain paths

This study proposes the compressive fracture characterization method using bilinear strain paths: pre-tension and compression. Compressive ductile fracture exhibits extremely large strain, which has been regarded as being difficult to be measured. Large deformation under compressive loading makes the shape of a specimen barreled and changes the stress triaxiality rapidly. Due to these complicated and large strains, compressive fracture strain can be considered to be within the so-called cut-off region where no fracture occurs. In order to enable compression tests to be easier, an approach that can lower the range of fracture strain is needed. Uniaxial tensile deformation is a strain path that induces the growth of voids inside ductile materials and leads to ductility reduction. Ductile materials subjected to pre-tensile loading before compressive loading can show the premature compressive fracture. A ductile fracture model capable of predicting the cut-off region is selected for ductile fracture loci of the bilinear paths and implemented into the numerical simulation with different pre-tensile strain levels. The verification of the proposed characterization method is performed by comparing experimental data and simulation results for fractured specimen shapes and load-displacement curves.

Towards measuring absolute residual stress by HR-EBSD with simulated reference patterns

The High-Resolution Electron Backscatter Diffraction (HR-EBSD) technique has drawn attention in recent years, mainly thanks to its ability to assess the elastic strain/stress state with a sub-micron spatial resolution. Each diffraction pattern is correlated with a reference one, and the strain level relative to the reference is retrieved in the procedure. Several studies have attempted to use dynamically simulated diffraction patterns as references to access absolute strain/stress states to circumvent the difficulty of finding a strain-free reference pattern, which is often inaccessible. Numerous factors need to be considered and corrected to register better experimental and simulated diffraction patterns, such as the accurate positioning of the projection center, Kikuchi band (K-band) brightness asymmetry, K-band gray level reversal, optical distortion, or non-uniform electron energy. Here, an integrated digital image correlation method is proposed to register experimental patterns to a master pattern defined on a sphere, where the difficulties with experimental patterns are, for the most part, corrected efficiently. Due to the shallow inspection depth of EBSD, the free-surface property (vanishing stress vector at the observation surface) is also adopted to reduce the degrees of freedom and enhance precision. Through several tests on high-quality experimental patterns, the proposed method proves robust and precise. Both the systematic and random errors of the residual strain results are several 10−4. The method also allows the simultaneous determination of residual stress and the projection center coordinates.

Deep Learning Model for Smart Wearables Device to Detect Human Health Conduction

With the proliferation of smart wearables, motion wristbands provide a wealth of data essential for comprehending the dynamic nature of health. However, outlier detection is typically necessary due to the presence of unknown outliers in their multidimensional activity data. Conventional approaches frequently result in incorrect object identification due to the curse of dimensionality. Using the Gaussian Mixture Generative Model (GMGM), we provide a method to identify outliers and address this problem. Training on raw data is done using a VariationalAutoencoder (VAE). While avoiding rebuilding mistakes, we want to achieve as many brief features as possible. To predict the likelihood that examples contain many types of data, a DBN will utilise feature extractions and latent distributions in the future. The model's robustness is enhanced by enhancing the VAE, deep learning components, and the GMM overall. When densities surpass the training level, the Gaussian Mixture Model identifies outliers. To achieve this, it makes educated guesses about the densities of each data point. Compared to the deep learning Autoencoding Gaussian Mixture Model (DAGMM), GMGM achieves a 5.5% higher area under the curve (AUC) on the ODDS standard dataset. Experiments conducted on real datasets further demonstrate the efficacy of this strategy.
