A study was carried out in high-pressure hydrogenation units with circulation of hydrogen-rich gas to determine the influence of the type of sulfiding agent on the activity of two samples of nickel-molybdenum catalysts in the dearomatization of a straight-run cut from West Siberian crude. The catalysts were sulfided by various sulfur-containing agents including hydrogen sulfide, elemental sulfur, a solution of elemental sulfur in a low-sulfur straight-run kerosene cut, and a solution of thiophene in a straight-run kerosene cut. The most effective agent was hydrogen sulfide. The activity of the catalysts in oxide form was also determined.
