Performance Evaluation of Storage Area Network(SAN)With internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI)For Local System PC

SCSI is a newly emerging protocol with the goal of implementing the Storage Area Network (SAN) technology over TCP/IP,where enables to access to remote data that in attached storage disks storages - Direct Attached Storage(DAS) over IP-networked. Also it's brings economy and convenience whereas it also raises performance and reliability issues. This paper investigates about possibility , using storage technology of the SANs, and iSCSI-SAN protocol,in local system PC, to improve access to attached storage disks storages in local system, with using iSCSI-SANs as virtual storage, is rather than DAS storage in local system of PC. Explicates after experiment procedure is that improving throughput of iSCSI-SANs was better than attached storage disks storages - DAS in local system . This means is that it can use iSCSI-SANs in local system of PC as attache storage disks storages as DAS , without cost , high performance, and easy control.

SANgo: a storage infrastructure simulator with reinforcement learning support.

We introduce SANgo (Storage Area Network in the Go language)—a Go-based package for simulating the behavior of modern storage infrastructure. The software is based on the discrete-event modeling paradigm and captures the structure and dynamics of high-level storage system building blocks. The flexible structure of the package allows us to create a model of a real storage system with a configurable number of components. The granularity of the simulated system can be defined depending on the replicated patterns of actual system behavior. Accurate replication enables us to reach the primary goal of our simulator—to explore the stability boundaries of real storage systems. To meet this goal, SANgo offers a variety of interfaces for easy monitoring and tuning of the simulated model. These interfaces allow us to track the number of metrics of such components as storage controllers, network connections, and hard-drives. Other interfaces allow altering the parameter values of the simulated system effectively in real-time, thus providing the possibility for training a realistic digital twin using, for example, the reinforcement learning (RL) approach. One can train an RL model to reduce discrepancies between simulated and real SAN data. The external control algorithm can adjust the simulator parameters to make the difference as small as possible. SANgo supports the standard OpenAI gym interface; thus, the software can serve as a benchmark for comparison of different learning algorithms.

A high-bandwidth and low-cost data processing approach with heterogeneous storage architectures

How to efficiently process big data at a low cost is a substantial challenge. Many efficient and economical data processing approaches have been proposed in the fields including business, scientific research, and public administration. Unfortunately, seismic data processing has not achieved the same level of devolvement in the field of oil exploration. While many storage architectures, such as network-attached storage (NAS) and storage area network (SAN), have been widely used to process massive amounts of seismic data, these architectures are expensive in terms of bandwidth and capacity. In this paper, we propose a high-bandwidth and low-cost approach to fill this gap. NASStore is our data store built on NAS for processing seismic data. However, it cannot provide a high bandwidth at a low cost when it comes to data-intensive computing scenarios due to the massive bandwidth requirement and the huge volume of data to be stored. Distributed file systems, such as the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), offer an alternative approach to store data. It delivers high aggregate performance to user applications while running on inexpensive commodity hardware. In order to overcome the shortcomings of NASStore, we first present HDFSStore that is built on HDFS for processing seismic data. We then couple NASStore and HDFSStore to construct a new hybrid data store, called SeisStore, in which efficient parallel write, read, and update mechanisms are employed to improve the system performance. The experiment results show that SeisStore reduces the storage cost than NASStore by up to 23.20% and improves the access bandwidth than NASStore and HDFSStore by up to 478.84% and 16.99%, respectively.

Improved storage area network method for backup approach

<span>Storage Area Network (SAN) could be a dedicated storage network which carries the info between servers and storage devices. SAN offers flexibility to implement and share data between servers and remote devices instead of the traditional method that reduced the performance of service. This paper improves SAN backup method to increase the CPU utilization and reduce the load on the link; the result shows that the improved method is better than of traditional in terms of response time in FTP about 36% while the traffic data is about 3%.</span>

Using Software defined Network and virtualization to implement NAT and backup functionality and resulting business benefits of implementation in ISPs

Lately virtualization technologies (server virtualization, network virtualization, NFV, SDN) are the dominant technologies in data centres and ISPs, it has many benefits such as better server utilization, agility, scalability, high availability (HA), faster application deployment and development and provisioning, cost reduction, better Return On Investment (ROI). This project aims to benefit from the virtualization technologies and apply it in Internet Service Providers, on Network Address Translation (NAT) functionality. Linux server (Debian) was used for applying NAT functionality as a software, VMware Vsphere is used as a virtualization environment. The use of virtualization raised the utilization of physical servers for about 50%, agile and scalable NAT functionality was achieved. The results from Fault Tolerance (FT), High Availability (HA) to implement backup functionality were as expected. It took less than a second for backup VM to replace any stopped VM that is defined for FT. To achieve best results with virtualization VMs should not involve intensive I/O operations. Physical servers should have huge RAM, processing power and Storage area network (SAN) to acquire the best results. The cost of virtualized NAT server compared with dedicated network CGN is about 35% less. Also one of the key benefits is the ease of administration and scalability especially on-demand growth and the ability to use Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware

Paradigm Shift From Storage Area Network to Hyper Converged System : A Review

From the strong based foundation of storage area network infrastructure in the long run Industry while the evolvement of the technology towards better, faster, agiled deployment of architecture in data center leads to gaining the acceptance of the converged system which takes accountant of complexity, space, power consumption or different parameters beyond the costs. For the intensive need of data transfer, new hardware and software refurbishment is implemented for more powerful storage systems and to come up with green storage, data centers with higher outgrowing application needs are targeted for energy saving and bound utilization of resources involved.

Analysis of performance comparison between Software-Based iSCSI SAN and Hardware-Based iSCSI SAN

Nowadays computer data grows rapidly and make a lot of institutions and companies looking for storage solutions that are safe, reliable and trustworthy. One of the solutions is to implement a Storage Area Network (SAN). In this study, the authors chose the iSCSI protocol as an object for analyzing the performance of the SAN server based on software and hardware. The RAID type used are RAID 5 and RAID 10, while the parameters used are Input Output per Second (IOPS), throughput and average latency with workloads 4 KB, 8 KB, and 256 KB. The tests performed on the network running Link Aggregation (LAG) or network without LAG. From the test results, it is seen that a SAN network running LAG have increased throughput by 89.57 MBps. The best IOPS performance was achieved by Software-Based iSCSI SAN with a value of 26729.48 IOPS. The best throughput performance is achieved by Hardware-Based iSCSI SAN with a value of 118.55MBps. The best latency performance achieved by Software-Based iSCSI SAN with a value of 2.01ms.

Delay Reduction Through Optimal Controller Placement to Boost Scalability in an SDDC

Software-defined storage (SDS) is an abrupt technology that aims to address the explosive data proliferation and storage management complexity through the separation of control and data path, which are tightly bounded in the traditional storage area network (SAN) model. In SDS, the centralized controller manages and controls the overall storage services and operations. However, the centralized controller approach raises the scalability and single point of failure flag. In such a paradigm, the controller placement is an important activity. A random placement of controllers suffers from unpredictable delay in a large enterprise. Multiple SDS controllers mitigate the single point of failure and provide redundancy. We propose a method called controller placement based on the center of gravity (CPCG) to solve the optimal placement controllers’ locations to reduce the delay. CPCG incorporates different coordinates and analyzes their density (the number of attached devices to a switch) to suggest new optimal sites. For the least number of SDS controllers, we propose an areawise optimal placement location strategy; the areawise approach mitigates workload processing from the central controller and also provides a scalable and reliable storage system. Experiments show that the optimal placement drastically reduces delay and, hence, boosts scalability.

Multi-agent Based Forensic Analysis Framework for Infrastructures Involving Storage Networks

In this paper, we present a framework based on collaborative multi-agent approach for performing real-time forensic analysis on those infrastructures which involve storage networks such as storage area network, storage servers or network attached storage. For this activity is logged surrounding the file accesses made on the servers, storage devices and other components by deploying independent agents at different components, including storage networks and servers. The agents keep on collecting event logs and collaborate with each other to identify malicious accesses and generate alerts accordingly. The framework offers a consolidated view of the sequence of different activities happened on storage network infrastructure and allied servers at any point in time.

J-TEXT distributed data storage and management system

As fusion experiment goes to steady state and high-performance data acquisition system been developed, traditional storage solutions cannot cope with the needs of fusion experiment data storage. Distributed file systems such as Lustre are being adopted by more and more facilities. The scaling-out of performance and capacity features addressed the main issue of traditional SAN (Storage Area Network) based storage. However, traditional file system based software solutions are still being used with the distributed file system. They lack modern data manage functions and limiting the performance of parallel storage. J-TEXT Cloud Database (JCDB) is a software stack that uses distributed database to provide fusion experiment data storage and management services. It ships with a storage engine powered by Cassandra database. This storage engine is designed for fusion experiment data and provides great performance. Data is divided into chunks when written and stored in a specially designed distributed database across the cluster. It has a MongoDB powered metadata management system which works seamlessly with the storage engine. JCDB is fully modular, handling different data type and metadata management functions are integrated as plugins. Even the storage engine can be changed. Though J-TEXT not supports long pulse experiments, the design of JCDB is aiming to meet long pulse discharge requirements, bring distributed database technology for future fusion devices such as China fusion engineering test reactor (CFETR). JCDB has the benefit of distributed file systems, provides complex metadata manage functions and comes with great performance.

A Novel Graph-Based Approach for the Management of Health Data on Cloud-Based WSANs

Nowadays, healthcare applications become among the most important services that help to improve the public safety through, for example, the prevention of the propagation of some epidemic diseases from patient to another or better from a location to another. Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) are considered among the major sources that enable the collection of such kind of data that shares in most cases the properties of big data and that needs to be stored and managed in an efficient manner. Regarding this need, Wireless Storage Area Networks (WSANs) have been considered among the alternatives to store generated health data. Even if these infrastructures enable the storage of huge volumes of data, there are some issues related to the efficient storage and processing of health data that still not resolved and that are of interest for the research communities. In this context, this paper proposes a cloud-based WSAN approach that enables the storage and the management of health data in an efficient manner by representing the collected data and their dependencies using Temporal Conceptual Graphs (TCGs). The validity of the generated graphs is verified by the proposed graph checker that enables the localization of semantic errors in such structure to prevent some threats to be realized for stored health data and to ensure the privacy of patients. The efficiency of the proposed approach is illustrated for different defined scenarios of diseases and their associated health data represented through generated TCGs.

ZHyperLink: Low-latency I/O for Db2 on IBM Z and DS8880 storage

zHyperLink is a new low-latency I/O capability for storage area networks (SANs). When using zHyperLink, the IBM z14 processor, along with the DS8880 Storage System (IBM's latest enterprise-class storage for mainframe attachment), delivers up to a 90% reduction in storage I/O service times compared with fiber channel transport technology. zHyperLink I/O service times eliminate the need for an operating system task switch for most read I/O operations, fundamentally improving application response times and changing system scaling behavior. Initial use of zHyperLink on IBM Z, IBM DS8880 storage, and z/OS accelerates the Db2 for z/OS relational database transaction processing information management system hierarchal database and reduces the elapsed time for Virtual Storage Access Method applications. These improvements occur without any application changes. In this paper, we explain the strategic importance of a low-latency I/O capability for the SAN and describe the z14 architecture, hardware, firmware, and software implementation concepts and the preliminary performance results for Db2.
