Research And Practice Of 600MW Subcritical Steam Turbine Inter Generation Upgrading

This paper introduces the upgrading technical scheme and application of subcritical 600 MW steam turbine. Firstly, the performance and existing problems of 600 MW subcritical unit before modification are analyzed, and the performance and output of steam turbine before modification are determined. Secondly, the performance of 300MW subcritical steam turbine retrofit and the performance guarantee value of each retrofit manufacturer are studied, and the thermal calculation is carried out. At the same time, the performance index of subcritical 600 MW steam turbine after upgrading is analyzed. Finally, according to the channel reconstruction scheme provided by the manufacturer, the optimization design of cold end optimization, last stage blade selection and base foundation reconstruction is proposed.

Case Study on Incentive Mechanism of Energy Efficiency Retrofit in Coal-Fueled Power Plant in China

An ordinary steam turbine retrofit project is selected as a case study; through the retrofit, the project activities will generate emission reductions within the power grid for about 92,463 tCO2e per annum. The internal rate of return (IRR) of the project is only −0.41% without the revenue of carbon credits, for example, CERs, which is much lower than the benchmark value of 8%. Only when the unit price of carbon credit reaches 125 CNY/tCO2, the IRR could reach the benchmark and an effective carbon tax needs to increase the price of carbon to 243 CNY/tce in order to make the project financially feasible. Design of incentive mechanism will help these low efficiency enterprises improve efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions, which can provide the power plants sufficient incentive to implement energy efficiency retrofit project in existing coal-fuel power generation-units, and we hope it will make a good demonstration for the other low efficiency coal-fueled power generation units in China.

Steam cycle options for the retrofit of coal and gas power plants with postcombustion capture

In a period where fast learning-curves for capture technologies can be expected it is important that plants built as carbon capture-ready avoid becoming potential stranded assets during the period of time when the plant operates without capture. At the same time recent evidence shows that decarbonisation of electricity generation cannot be achieved without a CCS option for gas plants. This article first proposes steam turbine design options to build combined cycle gas turbine plants as carbon capture-ready. Then steam cycle options for the existing fleet of coal-fired units are then presented. Although these plants have not been initially designed to operate with CCS it is possible to achieve effective thermodynamic integration–and an overall electricity output penalty in kWh per tonne of CO2 close to a plant built with capture from the outset–with appropriate steam turbine retrofits. Finally, novel insights into the design of capture-ready steam cycles are discussed for futureproofing pulverised coal plants that may have capture fitted after the first learning cycles of postcombustion capture technologies occur or that may be upgraded over their lifetimes.

Effective retrofitting of post-combustion CO 2 capture to coal-fired power plants and insensitivity of CO 2 abatement costs to base plant efficiency

Existing coal-fired power plants were not designed to be retrofitted with carbon dioxide post-combustion capture (PCC) and have tended to be disregarded as suitable candidates for carbon capture and storage on the grounds that such a retrofit would be uneconomical. Low plant efficiency and poor performance with capture compared to new-build projects are often cited as critical barriers to capture retrofit. Steam turbine retrofit solutions are presented that can achieve effective thermodynamic integration between a post-combustion CO 2 capture plant and associated CO 2 compressors and the steam cycle of an existing retrofitted unit for a wide range of initial steam turbine designs. The relative merits of these capture retrofit integration options with respect to flexibility of the capture system and solvent upgradability will be discussed. Provided that effective capture system integration can be achieved, it can be shown that the abatement costs (or cost per tonne of CO 2 to justify capture) for retrofitting existing units is independent of the initial plant efficiency. This then means that a greater number of existing power plants are potentially suitable for successful retrofits of post-combustion capture to reduce power sector emissions. Such a wider choice of retrofit sites would also give greater scope to exploit favourable site-specific conditions for CCS, such as ready access to geological storage.

Retrofit of the Cost and Effectiveness Model in Large Enterprise

What is a steam turbine retrofit and what are the advantages of such retrofit - hundreds of papers have been written on the subject and thousands of presentation, not to mention multi-million euro retrofit market and businesses devoted to this activity. Upon deeper reflection it may be concluded that the idea of retrofit may be applied not only to steam turbines but to large enterprises too, including those which supply steam turbines. As an old adage says: medice, cura te ipsum.The analysis of cost and effectiveness management in a large enterprise indicates the occurrence of phenomena of no man's land and imaginary cost. Even thought they significantly influence the economic result, the classic management model does not account for these phenomena at all. This paper presents three propositions of retrofit packages of management system of large enterprises, functioning on the global marked of complex products with strong competition.
