Turbulent diffusion in a well-mixed tidal estuary is considered. A practicable theory is presented from which quantitative predictions of mean pollutant-concentration distributions may be obtained for an estuary characterized by a steady-state salinity and velocity fields which are considered to vary only in the axial direction.
