Potential of kerosene-diesel blends as alternative fuels for diesel engines: Perspectives from spray combustion characteristics

To explore the application potential of kerosene (RP-3)/diesel blends as alternative fuels for diesel engines, the spray combustion characteristics of neat diesel, neat RP-3 and RP-3/diesel blends (varied from 25 % to 75 % of RP-3) were systematically compared in an optical constant volume combustion chamber under non-evaporating (0 % O2, 293 K), evaporating (0 % O2, 900 K) and combustion (21 % O2, 900 K) conditions. Their spray, evaporation, combustion and soot emission characteristics were visualized using various high-speed imaging techniques. The results show that RP-3/diesel blending ratio has significant effects on the spray and combustion processes. Under non-evaporating condition, higher RP-3 contents slightly decrease the spray penetration but increase the corresponding spray angle and volume. Under evaporating condition, the spray angle and volume follow the similar trend as those under non-evaporating condition except for slight fluctuations, but the liquid length decreases with the increase of blending ratio. Unexpectedly, the vapor penetrations of neat diesel and RP-3 are similar and longer than those of their blends. Under combustion condition, both the ignition delay and flame lift-off length increase with the RP-3 blending ratio. In addition, RP-3 component reduced the peak soot mass by 9.78 %, 14.7 % and 17.56 % for R25, R50 and R75, respectively. In summary, this study suggests that RP-3/diesel blends are suitable alternative fuels for diesel engines, in terms of faster evaporation and lower soot emissions. We recommend a blending ratio of 25 % as the most promising fuel for further investigations in real engines.

Experimental study of the effect of physical and chemical properties of alcohols on the spray combustion characteristics of alcohol-diesel blended fuels

To reveal the effect of different long carbon-chain alcohols blended into diesel on combustion characteristics and soot emissions under different ambient temperatures, the spray combustion processes of diesel and four sets of blends (the volume ratio of propanol/diesel, butanol/diesel, pentanol/diesel, and hexanol/diesel being 20%/80%) were investigated in a constant volume combustion chamber (CVCC) using optical techniques. It was discovered that the physical (cooling effect, dilution effect, diesel evaporation inhibition) and chemical reaction properties of alcohols have a competitive effect on the spray combustion characteristics of alcohol-diesel blended fuels. The combustion pressures of alcohol-diesel blended fuels were lower than that of pure diesel due to lower heating values, and this difference became more obvious under higher ambient temperature. Alcohols blended into diesel fuel could improve the combustion efficiency. The ignition delay times (IDTs) of alcohol-diesel blended fuels decreased with increased carbon chain lengths of alcohols under low ambient temperature conditions. However, this trend was reversed with increasing ambient temperature, and the IDTs of alcohol/diesel blends became lower than that of pure diesel at higher ambient temperatures. Propanol or hexanol blended into diesel could significantly inhibit the generation of soot at low ambient temperatures, but other alcohols promoted it. Interestingly, all alcohol-diesel blend fuels inhibited the generation of soot under high ambient temperature conditions, and propanol was the most significant.

Impact of pilot swirling combination on the flow and emission characteristics of staged lean direct injection combustors

This paper considers a concentric staged triple swirler lean direct injection (LDI) combustor and conducts numerical analysis to investigate the impact of inner and outer swirl flow of the pilot stage on the spray combustion characteristics and NOx emission. To simulate the flow field, spray dispersion, and the combustion process within the combustion chamber Large eddy simulation (LES) is employed. Three geometric dome parameters are studied including the pilot inner swirl angle, pilot outer swirl angle, and pilot flow rotating direction. The results indicate that: (1) The inner swirling flow is the main factor affecting the spray atomization process inside the swirl cup; (2) In downstream of the dump plane, the outer swirling flow determines the evolution of the precessing vortex core (PVC) structures which affect turbulence intensities in the shear layer and efficient spray dispersion, and (3) NOx emissions are related to the spray atomization efficiency and the average flame length in the combustion chamber. It is also shown that NOx emission in the triple swirler LDI combustors is significantly reduced by increasing the swirling intensity and flow rate of the pilot outer swirler.

Cool flame wave propagation in high-pressure spray flames

Cool flame has an important impact on the performance and emission of advanced low-temperature combustion (LTC) internal combustion engines (ICEs) in which the liquid fuel is injected earlier at a lower ambient temperature (Tam) than that in the conventional diesel combustion engines. However, the cool flame characteristics of spray combustion under ICEs conditions are not fully understood, e.g., the effect of cool flame on the spray ignition and flame stabilization is not well studied. In this paper, the so-called cool flame wave propagation (CFWP) in the Engine Combustion Networks Spray A flames at three ambient temperatures Tam (800 K, 900 K and 1000 K) is analyzed using the data from large eddy simulation with an improved Eulerian based transported probability density function sub-grid combustion model. A good agreement between the LES results and experimental data is obtained for the spray liquid penetration length, vapor fuel penetration length, mean pressure rise profile, and flame liftoff length. It is shown that CFWP in the spray ignition process promotes the ignition of the fuel-rich and cold reactant mixture, leading to the most reactive mixture shifting toward fuel-richer locations due to the spatial stratification of temperature and concentration, and turbulent mixing. As a result, the high temperature ignition (HTI) can be shortened compared to the ignition in the homogeneous mixture. At Tam = 800 K, the HTI kernels are consistently formed following the CFWP propagating toward the spray head region. However, as Tam increases, the spatial correlation between HTI kernels and CFWP fronts is weakened. On the other hand, the turbulent mixing (quantified using local scalar dissipation rate) contributes more to the formation of HTI kernels at higher Tam. The present results indicate that CFWP is more profound at lower Tam in the spray ignition process. Finally, it is found that cool flame propagates mainly into pre-reacted fuel-rich mixture in an ignition wave propagation mode from the spray upstream region toward downstream region, whereas the ignition assisted flame mode is found in the spray upstream region where the combustion heat release is negligible.

Large eddy simulation of n-dodecane spray flame: Effects of injection pressure on spray combustion characteristics at low ambient temperature

The present study uses large-eddy simulations (LES) to identify the underlying mechanism that governs the ignition and stabilization mechanisms of ECN Spray A flame for different injection pressures (Pinj) and ambient temperatures (Tam). Two Pinj of 50 MPa and 150 MPa, as well as two Tam of 750 K and 900 K are considered. The numerical model is validated against the experimental fuel penetration, radial mixture fraction distribution, ignition delay time, and lift-off length. The combustion characteristics of all four spray flames are well predicted, with a maximum relative difference of 15% to the measurements. At 900 K, high-temperature ignition (HTI) occurs in the fuel-rich mixture at the spray head of the high Pinj spray flame, but at the spray periphery of the low Pinj spray flame. This is due to the low Pinj case having fuel-richer mixture in the inner spray region. Nonetheless, the spray flames at both Pinj exhibit double-flame structure. At 750 K, HTI occurs at the fuel-rich and fuel-lean regions for spray flames with Pinj=50 MPa and 150 MPa, respectively. Reducing the Pinj leads to a lower injection velocity, less turbulent fluctuation, slower mixing, and hence the occurrence of HTI at the fuel-rich mixtures. The spray flame in the low Pinj case at 750 K exhibits a triple-flame structure at the lift-off position, while the high Pinj case exhibits a lean premixed reaction zone. This difference is attributed to the distribution of fuel-rich mixtures. Despite differences in the flame structures, auto-ignition process plays a key role to stabilize the lift-off position for all four spray flames. The auto-ignition process is also found to be dependent on the cool-flame products upstream of the lift-off position. In particular for the low Tam cases, the heat transfer effect from the main flame to the fuel-rich regions is suggested to also contribute to the flame stabilization mechanisms.

Assessment of grid/filter size dependence in large eddy simulation of high-pressure spray flames

With the increase of computing power, large eddy simulation (LES) within the Lagrangian–Eulerian two-phase flow framework has evolved as an useful numerical tool to gain insights to the spray combustion processes in advanced internal combustion engines. However, the inherent effect of grid/filter size (G/FS) on the physics revealed by LES is not fully understood. In this paper, we present several new viewpoints on this by analyzing the results from a Lagrangian–Eulerian LES study of Engine Combustion Networks Spray A with a newly developed multi-region adaptive mesh refinement method in OpenFOAM. It is found that G/FS affects the predicted spray characteristics, the modes of spray combustion, the ignition delay time and the liftoff length in different ways. First, owing to the nature of Lagrangian particle-in-cell approach, the spray liquid penetration length converges as the G/FS approaches to the nozzle diameter. The convergence behavior is rather independent of the spray model parameters. Second, it is critical to have a well resolved spray liquid region; the main spray combustion characteristics, e.g., the mean pressure rise profile, the onsets of the cool flame and hot flame, and the main flame structure, are shown to be similar and independent of G/FS once the liquid region is properly resolved. However, the detailed flame structures at the liftoff position are sensitive to G/FS; the upstream auto-ignition events, the low temperature ignition assisted flame propagation and the hot flame propagation, are shown to partially rely on the adopted G/FS. Finally, it is found that a finer G/FS predicts a slower fuel/oxidizer mixing and a shorter flame liftoff length, yielding a higher soot mass.

Investigation on spray combustion characteristics of Boron-Loaded slurry fuel in a Swirl-Stabilized combustor

For many decades, liquid hydrocarbon fuels are being used to propel air-breathing engines. However, the energy content of liquid hydrocarbon fuels has reached close to its limitation. Any further improvement in energy value is quite difficult through chemical methods. Slurry fuels, which are colloidal suspensions of solid energetic particles in liquid fuel, became a potential alternative fuel. Among several solid additives, boron is considered the best choice because of its higher heating values. However, our knowledge about boron-loaded slurry fuel is very limited. Therefore, here in this study, we experimentally investigated the combustion characteristics of boron/Jet A-1 slurry fuel spray in a swirl-stabilized combustor. A particle loading of 10% by weight is considered here for the experiment. The feed boron, as well as the burnt boron samples, were characterized using standard material characterization techniques in order to understand the surface morphology, oxidation behavior, and active boron content. The combustion characteristics of slurry fuel were analyzed through spectroscopy and BO2* chemiluminescence imaging. Positive thermal contribution from boron combustion was quantified via temperature measurements at three different radial locations of the combustor exit. The spectroscopy and chemiluminescence signatures indicate that combustion of boron particles occurs downstream of the dump plane. The exit temperature of boron-laden slurry fuel measured at all three different radial locations is higher compared to neat Jet A-1. An increment of 19% in exit temperature was observed in the case of boron slurry fuel relative to neat Jet A-1. The X-ray diffractograms (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) show the complete oxidation of boron particles.

Flow field, flame structure and emissions quantifications of oxygenated glycerol in a swirl flame combustor

The growing production of biodiesel results in the supply glut of crude glycerol byproduct. One option is to utilise the glycerol as supplementary fuel for combined heat and power generation, thereby partially substituting conventional fossil fuel while improving the economics of biodiesel production. In the present study, the spray combustion and emissions characteristics of glycerol were examined using a swirl flame burner. Due to the inherent low heating value of glycerol, the swirling air was premixed with methane to form a co-fired globally lean flame. Both the crude glycerol and pure glycerol spray flames emitted strong spectral intensity of yellowish-orange in the flame brush, overwhelming the bluish flame of fuel-lean methane. The dual heat release zone indicated by the OH* chemiluminescence marks the spatial locations of the swirling premixed flame and centrally injected spray flame. The sooting region of the flame was found to extend downstream beyond the heat release zone. The presence of spray reduced the intensity of the central reverse flow, while the size of the central recirculation zone was also affected. By employing a globally lean-flame and preheating approach, the NO emission was kept low while the higher atomising air-to-liquid ratio led to lower CO emissions. By employing a dual-fuel injection strategy, the glycerol can be effectively burned under swirl and moderately heated condition.

Spray Behavior, Combustion, and Emission Characteristics of Jet Propellant-5 and Biodiesel Fuels with Multiple Split Injection Strategies

This study focuses on an analysis of the spray behavior, combustion, and emission characteristics of jet propellant-5 (JP-5) and biodiesel fuels with single-injection timing and multiple split injection strategies in a common rail direct injection (CRDI) single-cylinder diesel engine system. The analysis includes visualization of the spray and combustion. Multiple split injection strategies (e.g., double, triple, quadruple, and quintuple) were considered by equally distributing the fuel injection amount within the single-injection. Injection of biodiesel has a delayed start (0.2 ms) as well as shorter spray tip penetration compared with JP-5. As the fuel injection timing was approached to the top dead center (TDC), the engine performance and combustion efficiency improved. Retarding the injection timing contributed to an increase in carbon dioxide (CO2) (JP-5: max. 2.6% up, BD100: max. 1.5% up) and a decrease in carbon monoxide (CO) (JP-5: max. 93% down, BD100: max. 91% down) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) (JP-5: max. 83% down, BD100: max. 82% down). In comparison with JP-5, biodiesel showed disadvantages from the point of its combustion and emission characteristics for all injection timings. The quadruple-injection strategy, in which fuel injection was performed four times, showed excellent combustion, engine performance, and combustion efficiency. The CO2 emissions were highest with the quadruple-injection strategy (JP-5: 6.6%, BD100: 5.8%). The CO emissions of biodiesel decreased as the pulses of split injection extended, and a significant reduction of 83.8% was observed. NOx increased as the number of split injections increased (JP-5: max. 37% up, BD100: max. 52% up). JP-5 was a longer ignition delay than that of biodiesel from combustion flame visualization results. The final combustion in the multiple-injection strategy showed a typical diffusion combustion pattern.

Numerical study on the wall-impinging diesel spray mixture formation, ignition, and combustion characteristics in the cylinder under cold-start conditions of a diesel engine

The combustion of wall-impinging diesel spray is a typical phenomenon in a diesel engine due to the limited in-cylinder space, especially for small and medium-sized diesel engines under the cold-start condition. To investigate the wall-impinging diesel spray combustion process at low-temperature and low-speed conditions, the mixture formation, ignition, and combustion characteristics of the fuel were quantitatively analyzed using a computational fluid dynamics model. It was discovered that the diesel spray was guided by the piston surface and the limited in-cylinder space, resulting in more vapor-phase fuel flowing into the region between the two spray paths, Thus, high-temperature ignition (HTI) occurred in this region. During a cold-start, in-cylinder HTI also occurred in the region between the two spay paths with different injection timings. The flame then propagated first to the region with the higher equivalence ratio near the piston surface and finally to the region with the lower equivalence ratio in the center of the combustion chamber. Because an earlier injection timing resulted in both a leaner mixture in the cylinder at top dead center and the transition period from the low-temperature reactions to the high-temperature reactions, there was a limited ability to adjust the HTI and thermal power conversion by controlling the injection timing. The optimal control of in-cylinder combustion during the cold start of a diesel engine depends on the HTI, the center of combustion, and the deposited fuel mass. The optimal of injection timing during a cold start of the diesel engine in this study was −13 °CA ATDC.

Comparative assessment of combustion characteristics of limonene, Jet A-1 and blends in a swirl-stabilized combustor under the influence of pre-heated swirling air

Biofuels are low carbon fuels and have emerged as an important source of energy for reducing pollutant emissions and greenhouse gas emissions in the aviation industry. In the present work, the spray combustion characteristics of limonene, Jet A-1, and limonene/Jet A-1 blends (10%, 30%, and 50% volumetric loading of limonene) have been experimentally investigated in a laboratory-scale swirl-stabilized combustor. To examine the effect of heated swirling air on the combustion of limonene, Jet A-1, and Jet A-1/limonene blends, the experiment has been conducted on non-preheat and two preheat conditions (swirling air temperature of 373 K and 473 K). Limonene is considered an emerging fuel alternative owing to its high calorific value and comparable physical properties with Jet A-1. The spray flame length of limonene is approximately 20% shorter than the flame of Jet A-1, while compared to the non-preheated case the flame length is reduced in preheat case (approximately 15% reduction in 373 K case and 25% reduction at 473 K). Compared to pure Jet A-1, the flames of limonene and limonene/Jet A-1 blends have given good results in terms of pollutant emissions and temperature profiles when limonene is added to Jet A-1. 50% limonene-loaded blends show a drop of 15% CO and neat limonene show a 35 % CO reduction. Additionally, 10%, 30%, and 50% limonene blends have shown better combustion characteristics compared to neat Jet A-1.

Spray Combustion Characteristics of Single/Multicomponent Surrogate Fuel for Aviation Kerosene

Abstract In this research, n-dodecane and world-average jet fuel (JW) are selected as single and multicomponent surrogate fuel of aviation kerosene to study the Jet-A spray combustion characteristics. The spray combustion phenomena are simulated using large eddy simulation coupled with detailed chemical reaction mechanism. Proper orthogonal decomposition method is applied to analyze the flow field characteristics, and the instantaneous velocity field is decomposed into four parts, namely, the mean part, coherent part, transition part, and turbulent part, respectively. The four parts have their own characteristics. In terms of different fuels, JW has a higher intensity of coherent structures and local vortices than n-dodecane, which promotes the fuel–air mixing and improves the combustion characteristics, and the soot formation is significantly reduced. In addition, with the increase of initial temperature, the combustion is more intense, the ignition delay time is advanced, the flame liftoff length is reduced, and soot formation is increased accordingly.

Analysis of Biodiesel Spray Combustion in Internal-Combustion Engine using Multidimensional Models

With the rapid scale expansion of the first generation of bio-liquid fuels, its impact on the prices of agricultural products, food security and the environment has begun to emerge and attracted extensive attention from governments and academia. A new multi-dimensional model of biodiesel spray combustion in an internal combustion (IC) engine is designed. Firstly, the BP neural network mining model is used to extract the spray combustion data of the IC engine. Then, based on the combustion data of biodiesel load in an internal combustion engine, burning rate and heat release, the principle of spray combustion of biodiesel is analyzed. Finally, from the two aspects of gas-phase control and liquid phase control, a multi-dimensional model of biodiesel spray combustion in IC engine is established and the spray combustion characteristics of biodiesel in IC engine are analyzed. The research results show that the model can effectively analyze the effect of load and fuel temperature on the spray combustion characteristics of biodiesel and the results of the model are almost the same as the actual data and the calculation accuracy is high. It is an effective method for studying the spray combustion characteristics of biodiesel.

Spray Combustion of Rocket-Grade-Kerosene-Based Nanofluids with Oxygen

The spray and spray combustion characteristics of rocket-grade kerosene (Isrosene) loaded with graphene nanoplatelets and aluminum nanoparticles are investigated in this study. A shear coaxial injector with recess was employed to generate the nanofluid spray flowing through the center orifice and 99.98% oxygen through the annular gap. The mass flow rate was maintained at for both the fuel and oxidizer streams, and the flame was nonconfined. Effect of nanoparticles on droplet size of the sprays, flame liftoff height, flame temperature, and CO emissions were measured. Droplet size measurement was conducted using a laser-based nonintrusive technique (MALVERN particle sizer). It was observed that for the same mass flow rates of the fuel and oxygen, the droplet size of the spray increased by 50% due to the addition of nanoparticles. The direct videography method was used to visualize the flame shape and size, and it was observed that the flame liftoff height decreased by 50 and 10% due to the addition of graphene and aluminum nanoparticles, respectively. The presence of nanoparticles enhanced the reaction rate, which was concluded based on the measurement of flame temperature and CO concentrations.

Experimental study of wall-impinging diesel spray ignition and combustion characteristics under critical conditions

The ignition stability of diesel engines during cold starting is a key issue limiting the further reduction of compression ratio. To investigate the effect of diesel spray and wall interaction on ignition stability at the critical conditions with a low ambient density and different ambient temperatures, the spray characteristics, ignition process, and flame propagation process were quantitatively analyzed using the Mie-scattering and shadowgraph method, and direct photography method of simultaneous photography based on a constant volume combustion chamber. It was discovered that the spray penetration length spray cone angle, spread radius, and vapor-phase floatation height were insensitive to ambient temperature, but liquid-phase floatation height decreased as the ambient temperature increased. Ignition delay time decreased as the ambient temperature increased, but ignition positions all occurred near the wall surface and far from the axis of the nozzle. However, the distance between ignition position and axis of nozzle, and the distance between ignition position and wall both decreased as the ambient temperature increased. Higher equivalent ratio zones are more susceptible to low temperature reaction than lower equivalent ratio zones. However, the threshold for high temperature reaction of higher equivalent zones was higher than that of lower equivalent ratio zones. Yellow flames were usually accompanied by the production of a blue flame around them, and blue flame propagates faster than yellow flame under critical conditions.

A detailed modelling on spray atomisation and combustion of LOX/GCH4 in variable area pintle injector rocket engines

The spray combustion of LOX/GCH4 in the pintle injector is simulated to study the combustion characteristics at a subcritical condition by considering the effects of pintle opening distance and pintle tip angle. To perform the simulation, first, the VOF simulation was used to estimate the LOX sheet thickness and breakup length. Second, the breakup constants for the secondary breakup model were calculated using the results of VOF and the Lagrangian approach was used to estimate the Sauter mean diameter around the injector exit. Finally, the spray combustion of LOX/GCH4 simulation was performed using the estimated SMDs data. Subsequently, the spray combustion characteristics were discussed by considering the individual effects of pintle opening distance at fixed pintle tip angle, and pintle tip angle at fixed pintle opening distance using various contours such as temperature, mass fraction of OH, and discrete phase model evaporation of LOX droplets. Following this, the characteristic velocity and combustion efficiency were shown for various cases. The optimised design of the pintle injector based on the simulated results was summarised for future liquid rocket pintle injectors.

Comparing Global Spray Combustion Characteristics and Local Shot-to-Shot Variations in a Reacting n-Heptane Spray

Abstract In support of efforts to develop improved models of turbulent spray behavior and combustion in diesel engines, experimental data and analysis must be obtained for guidance and validation. For Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS)-based Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling approaches, representative ensemble average experimental results are important. For high-fidelity models such as large eddy simulations (LES)-based CFD, precise individual experimental results are desirable. However, making comparisons between a given experiment and LES is a challenge since local parameters cannot be directly compared. In this work, an optically accessible constant pressure flow rig (CPFR) is utilized to acquire diesel-like fuel injection and reaction behavior simultaneously with three optical diagnostic techniques: rainbow Schlieren deflectometry (RSD), OH* chemiluminescence (OH*), and two-color pyrometry (2CP). The CPFR allows a large number of repeated injection experiments to be performed for statistical analysis and convergence using ensemble-averaging techniques, while maintaining highly repeatable test conditions. Even for stable test conditions, variations in local turbulent fuel–air mixing introduce variability, which manifests as significant differences in OH* and 2CP results. Experimental measurements of characteristic parameters including liquid and vapor jet penetration, liftoff length, soot temperature and concentration, and turbulent flame speed, along with the shot-to-shot variability of each dataset, are presented and discussed. A statistical method is utilized to analyze the extent of this variability, and to identify superlative injections within the dataset for discussion and analysis of shot-to-shot variations.

Combustion characteristics of n-heptane spray combustion in a low temperature reform gas/air environment

This paper presents a large eddy simulation study of n-heptane spray combustion in an n-heptane low temperature reform (LTR) gas environment in a constant volume combustion chamber, under conditions relevant to single-fuel reactivity controlled compression ignition (RCCI) combustion engines. The LTR gas is made up of partially oxidized intermediate species from rich n-heptane/air mixture in an external constant temperature reformer. It is found that a higher reform temperature results in a longer ignition delay time of the n-heptane spray and a higher liftoff length, due to the chemical effect of the LTR gas and the difference in the reaction zone structures. A significantly different spray flame structure is identified in the RCCI case from that of single-fuel spray combustion. After the onset of high temperature ignition, a double-layer flame structure is established in the RCCI case, with a diffusion flame layer and a lean premixed flame layer. The lean premixed flame affects the flow field, which significantly suppresses the mixing around the spray tip. As a result, the RCCI case exhibits a lower NOx formation but a higher soot formation than the single-fuel case.

Experimental study of spray behavior and laser ignited combustion characteristics of a gasoline-air mixture using the GDI system

This study focuses on the spray behavior and combustion characteristics of laser ignited gasoline-air mixture. A gasoline direct injection (GDI) system was used to inject the gasoline-air fuel mixture with high injection pressure into a constant volume combustion chamber. This high-pressure injection helps to improve the mixing quality and atomization, which further enhances the combustion process. The spray characteristics were studied for the injection pressures of up to 11 MPa in steps of 2 MPa, injection duration 1 to 5 ms, and a chamber pressure of 0.1 to 0.7 MPa. The maximum spray penetration length was found at 11 MPa injection pressure. The dependence of spray characteristics was found dominant on injection pressure compared with the injection duration. The experimental results were validated with CFD simulations. The empirical correlation was developed for spray penetration length, which was further used to calculate the spray penetration length for the gasoline-air mixture's laser combustion. The laser combustion was done at all the injection pressure ranges to study the effect of injection pressure on combustion peak pressure. An increase in peak pressure was found with an increase in injection pressure. The combustion peak pressure and the net heat release were found maximum for ϕ = 1, reducing lean and rich mixture conditions.
