Characteristics of the Medallists of the World Masters Orienteering Championships

This research aimed to investigate morphological parameters (body mass, height, BMI) of medallists at the World Masters Orienteering Championships (WMOC), alongside their sports achievements and results. Fifty medallists from the 2022 WMOC, aged 35 to 80, were surveyed using a questionnaire, with non-parametric statistics (Mann–Whitney U test and ρ-Spearman test) applied for analysis. The average height was 179 cm for men and 165 cm for women, with average weights of 70 kg for men and 54 kg for women. BMI was 21.5 (SD = 1.43) for men and 20.4 (SD = 1.74) for women, with significantly lower BMI values in women (Z = 2.054, p = 0.04). Men’s BMI decreased with age (R = −0.534, p < 0.01). The BMI value of masters foot orienteers is typical for middle-distance runners. Women are closer to the somatotype of 1500 m athletes and men to 800 m athletes. Lack of earlier elite success does not preclude being on the podium at the WMOC (only 3 of the 50 medallists surveyed had won a medal in elite competition in the past).

Multivariate analysis of academic and sport performance among Indonesian university student-athletes

Research on student-athletes' academic performance reveals a complex interplay of factors. Interestingly, few studies have investigated the achievement of student-athletes in both academics and athletics, the two areas in which they are usually evaluated. In this study, we investigated the association between factors that may affect student athlete academic performance with their sports achievement. In this study, 166 students from 20 sport faculties universities within faculty of sports who had at least a provincial sports accomplishment were involved. The factors that were strongly connected with student-athletes' academic achievement were analyzed using a logistic regression analysis. According to this study, there is a considerable correlation between the academic achievement of student athletes, their gender and internet access. It has been found that academic achievement is strongly influenced by students' proficiency in establishing an internet connection significantly impacts their academic performance. In addition, gender makes a major contribution to the prediction of academic grades in student athletes in Indonesia. Athletes may be eligible for specialized academic programs that are intended to help them continue to improve in both their academic and athletic endeavors. As a result, Indonesian universities mandate the establishment of a mentorship center development organization to assist student-athletes. Curriculum modifications may also be implemented in response to the time allotted to students for academic and sports performance.

Identifying factors affecting sports achievement and endurance using artificial intelligence

Abstract Introduction Sports achievements and performance are not solely based on outstanding endurance, especially in tactical and technical sports. Artificial intelligence (AI) can help us to identify correlations that can contribute to the successful preparation of athletes. Purpose Our aim was to further analyze and evaluate our previously initiated AI-based sports performance studies, identifying the parameters that determine athletes’ achievement and endurance. Methods First, sports cardiology screening was performed in all athletes containing the following examinations: patient’s history, ECG, laboratory test, body composition analysis, echocardiography and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. A database from the sports cardiology screening results was established. Then, we created two scoring systems based on the best ever result (Achievement Score) and the performance on the cardiopulmonary exercise test (Endurance Score). We identified the most important influencing factors using a neural network and characterized the strength of the variables using Shappley Additive Explanation (SHAP) values. Results We examined 1932 tests of 891 athletes and the AI analysis included 917 tests of 546 athletes (20.2±6.2 years, males: 397, 72.7%). Majority of the examined athletes were swimmers (27.4%), followed by basketball players (21.8%), water polo players (15.2%), handball players (13.3%) and football players (13.1%). The most important Achievement Score determinants were the weekly training hours (SHAP=0.27), training years (SHAP=0.26) and the age (SHAP=0.15). Meanwhile, Endurance Score was mainly affected by skeletal muscle mass (SHAP=0.85), weight (SHAP=0.6) and peak heart rate during exercise (SHAP=0.32). Our results were validated on a test population (N=102) and in the Achievement Score the mean absolute error (MAE) was 0.64, the determination coefficient (R2) was 0.56, in Endurance Score the MAE was 0.84 and the R2 was 0.71. Conclusion Based on our results, while endurance is mainly determined by the athlete’s physical characteristics, in athletic achievement experience is more important. With our scoring systems the athlete’s achievement and endurance can be predicted well.

Motion Recognition Based on Deep Learning Algorithm

Advanced scientific and technological measurement methods are the basis of sports research and the progress of sports research methods. It promotes the continuous improvement of sports technology to meet athletes’ pursuit of excellent sports achievements. Therefore, the method of sports scientific research must be changed from the traditional empirical training mode to the programmed training method, from the qualitative analysis of the training effect to the nuanced analysis of the training process. Based on this, this paper uses in-depth learning to study sports motion capture. First, two-dimensional human joints are extracted based on Mask R-CNN. Then, the 3D human motion skeleton is constructed by using the binocular vision system, and the Mask R-CNN human pose estimation algorithm is optimized. On this basis, a sports motion capture system is designed, and the system’s accuracy is verified. The error of the depth information obtained by the sports capture system constructed in this paper is less than 3% in the experiment of about 2[Formula: see text]m. It has strong practicability.

Legal Protection of Social Security and Forms of Providing Accountability, Coaching, and Welfare for Indonesian National Athletes

The aim of this research is to analyze the legal protection provided by athletes for those who are not included in the social security program in the event of an injury and old-age pension security. National athletes have basic rights such as the right to education, health and protection from exploitation. They also have the right to receive appropriate rewards for their efforts and achievements in sports. Legal protection is necessary to ensure that these rights are respected and protected. The government has an important role in the legal protection of national athletes, including in terms of funding, coaching, accountability, training, sports facilities and sports promotion. The government also has an obligation to protect athletes from exploitation and discrimination. In order to achieve brilliant sporting achievements, strong legal protection for national athletes is very important. This provides encouragement for athletes to fully commit to their sport without having to worry about any legal issues that may arise. Thus, legal protection for national athletes is an essential aspect in advancing sports and encouraging future generations of athletes to achieve higher achievements.

A Study on Competency Behaviour and Its Impact on Sports Achievement

The present study titled as “A study on competency behaviour and its impact on sports achievement” is carried out to find the relationship between competency behavior and sports achievement in hockey (encouragement, desire, representation and goal scoring ability, scooping the ball). A survey method was employed, the sample size of this study consists of 100 hockey players. The selected Competency behaviour variables and skills of the hockey game were assessed by using the standardized test manual. The collected data on the study indicate that there was significant difference on skills performance of selected hockey skills by the Competency behaviour factors such as encouragement, desire and representation. It was found that the Competency behaviour factors such as encouragement, desire and representation influenced on skills performance of women hockey players.

Mass sports is an important socio-cultural phenomenon that influences the formation of values and behavioural attitudes in society. The study of the concept of creating a common value of mass sports is important for understanding its influence on public consciousness and the development of socio-cultural environment. The relevance of this study is due to the importance of the development of mass sports as a means of strengthening the physical and psychological health of the population, the formation of social unity and solidarity, which, in turn, allows us to talk about the creation of a common value of mass sports. The research methods included retrospective literature review, analysis and synthesis, systematization and grouping of data, mathematization in the context of frequency determination and modelling. The paper proposed a conceptual model for creating shared value in mass sports, which describes opportunities for the development of sport organizations through addressing social problems and on this basis creating economic value for organizations, local communities, and the economy of the country. The results of the study showed that the concept of creating shared value in mass sports implies not only the achievement of sports results, but also the formation of favorable sociocultural and socio-economic conditions for the development of society and the economy. An important aspect of the concept realization is the integration of mass sports into public life and the creation of conditions for equal access to sport for all groups of the population. In conclusion, it is necessary to develop mass sports and implement the concept of creating common value to ensure the health and well-being of society. The results of the study can be used to develop strategies for the development of mass sports based on joint value creation. The concept of jointly created value in mass sports is implemented at both the state and local levels of government.

Nutritional Status and Cardiometabolic Markers to Determine Athlete’s Achievement: A Cross-Sectional Study

The health, physiological, and nutritional status of an athlete is a top priority in achieving success and career sustainability. Information about an athlete's health, such as blood biochemistry, anthropometry, and adequate nutritional intake, might indicate their ability to perform exceptionally well in different levels of competition. Objective: This research objective is to examine the correlation between athletes' sports achievements in Bandung and their anthropometric traits, nutritional status, and blood biochemical indicators. Methods: This study utilised a cross-sectional design and incidental data collection techniques. Participants: The study comprised 84 athletes from 27 different sports who received achievement allowances from KONI Bandung City. Instruments: n this study, we employed reliable and validated techniques to assess anthropometrics, body composition, somatotype, blood biochemistry, nutritional intake adequacy, and energy adequacy. Data analysis: Both the bivariate and multivariate analyses used logistic regression. Results: The findings of the analysis indicate a significant relationship between athlete performance and two variables: blood pressure (p=0.026) and dietary diversity (p=0.048). The findings from the multivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between blood pressure and dietary variety, which influences the achievement of athletes. The calculation of the odds ratio (OR) revealed that among all the variables examined, the athlete's blood pressure exhibited strongest correlation with their performance. Conclusion: Blood pressure is a physiological measurement that can serve as an indicator of cardiac function and overall well-being. As a result, it is critical to regularly assess the physical well-being of athletes in Bandung to ensure their consistent optimal performance.

Collective sports success through effective social performances: The case of Olympic wrestling in Iran

This study argues that the athletic success of Iranian wrestlers is fused with success in social performances. Using Alexander's cultural sociology, we propose that individuals’ behavioral, emotional, and mental dispositions toward sports are shaped by tacit and invisible social forces encompassing them at a given time and place. Furthermore, we make use of Alexander's notion that the power of culture is manifested when it is actively enacted. To ground our theoretical frameworks with empirical evidence, we conducted a case study of successful Iranian male wrestlers. The study reveals that the success of Iranian wrestling is constructed upon cultural foundations, social organizations, cooperative networks, and a set of social relations that performatively contribute to producing world-class wrestlers. It is within a given social, cultural, and organizational context that culture is performed through a series of collective actions and agencies. Such successful cultural performances reinforce the meaning of certain practices by connecting the past to the present and ensuring their continuity, thereby establishing a strong tradition of collective sporting achievements.

Analysis of sports clubs at Vietnam National University, Hanoi

This study aimed to determine the types of sports clubs operating in accordance with the functions and tasks of the Center for Physical Education and Sports at Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Additionally, it proposed solutions to organize sports clubs to enhance the quality of comprehensive physical and mental education and improve sports performance for students. This study employed a mixed-methods design, including document analysis, interviews, social investigations, and pedagogical testing. A total of 70 individuals at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, comprising 40 physical education and sports lecturers and 30 officials and students from the Youth Union and Student Association, were interviewed. Five solutions have been proposed for organizing and operating the university's sports clubs managed by the Center. Additionally, four solutions have been identified to develop sports and entertainment clubs at the member universities of Vietnam National University, Hanoi. These initiatives have led to significant improvements, including enhanced quality of comprehensive physical and mental education, an increase in the number of clubs and members, and notable advancements in sports achievements through training in various disciplines. As a result, the overall sports level at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, has been elevated. The selected solutions have demonstrated effectiveness in promoting sports club activities at the university and advancing physical education as a whole.

Social pressures and their relationship to the achievement motivation of handball players in Jordan

This study aimed to assess the degree of social pressures and their relationship to sports achievement motivation among 51 randomly selected handball players from first-division clubs in Jordan. A descriptive approach was employed, and data were collected via a questionnaire, with analyses conducted using SPSS 26. The results showed that social pressure levels were moderate, with training pressures being the highest (M = 3.17; a relative importance of 63.40%), followed by family (M = 2.92; a relative importance of 58.40%) and public pressures (M = 2.32; a relative importance of 46.40%). No statistically significant differences were found in social pressures and sports achievement motivation among handball players based on experience (p > 0.05). While family and public pressures were not significantly correlated with motivation (p>0.05), training and overall pressures were positively correlated with motivation (p<0.05). The study found moderate social pressure among handball players in Jordan, with low public-related pressures and no differences based on experience. Motivation for sports achievement was high, with training-related pressures positively linked to motivation.

Physical education has an important role in shaping students' character through physical activity at school. Through the development of motor skills, physical abilities, knowledge, sportsmanship, as well as mental, emotional, spiritual and social character formation, physical education aims to achieve the goals of the National education system. Apart from that, physical education also has important benefits in improving students' physical fitness and forming characters such as discipline, cooperation and sportsmanship. The difference with sports education lies in the focus on developing motor skills, knowledge and healthy living attitudes through physical activity, while sports education places more emphasis on developing strong athletes and achievements in certain sports. Physical education also includes activities outside the classroom such as field trips, camping, environmental awareness, exploring, and mountain climbing. Values-based physical education combines a character education approach with physical activities to develop students' attitudes, values ​​and social skills. The advantages of value-based physical education include character building, improving mental and emotional health, social skills, and overcoming the problem of accidents at school. Examples of physical activities such as team games, collaborative activities, yoga or meditation classes, and sports competitions can be used as a means to implement values-based physical education.

Implementation of Effective Sports Human Resource Management Policies in Improving the Performance of Sports Organizations in the Society 5.0 Era

Current advances have created very tight competition among Central Java Petanque sports organizations, encouraging the need for extraordinary performance to support national sporting achievements. The change from the previous era to the Society 5.0 Era reflects significant evolution in the industrial revolution, technological progress and social change. In the Era of Society 5.0, the role of the Central Java Petanque sports organization is increasingly important in responding to the dynamics of social and technological change. Human resource management in the Central Java Petanque sports organization faces various challenges, such as the diversity of team members involving differences in culture, language and work styles. Therefore, implementing human resource management policies that focus on sports is very important to compete at the global level, improve sports performance, and support the achievement of national goals in Indonesia's sports achievements. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. The research results show that its application will face dynamics and challenges regarding limited sports human resources, cultural and value differences, and dynamic flexibility. Therefore, alternative solutions are needed to deal with various problems, such as automation in increasing awareness about the value of various crocodiles, automation that leads to digitalization, as well as developing programs for the involvement of all human resources in sports

The role of innovations in the development of modern sports games and its impact on physical activity and sports achievements

Scientific and technical progress is rapidly accelerating, therefore innovative technologies penetrate into all aspects of human life, in particular, into the sports sphere. They open new horizons, allow you to achieve positive results and offer high-tech equipment and equipment. The purpose of the article was to analyze the impact of innovations on physical activity in modern society and sports achievements. In the course of the study, it was found that innovations are innovative methods, technologies and approaches that are implemented to achieve new results, improve processes or solve problems in a certain field. Technological innovations such as virtual reality, innovative materials for sports equipment, artificial intelligence, digital technologies have affected all sports. The main examples of these technologies and their advantages of implementation in the sports industry were analyzed. So, for example, it is determined that the use of synthetic materials in poles for athletics increases their catapulting properties and sports achievements of athletes. Virtual reality technologies contribute to the effective training of cyclists, providing the opportunity to reproduce different weather conditions and types of routes, to test different strategies of speed and intensity of riding without any risks. Modern technologies, which allow to objectively evaluate the biomechanical parameters of the athlete's movements and to correct and improve them, contribute to a significant increase in the effectiveness of the athlete training system. The main groups of modern biomechanical technologies implemented in sports are analyzed. Significant technological updates in the field of sports are caused by the active implementation of digital technologies. Digital technologies help improve the national health care system by facilitating the collection, analysis and dissemination of data on health and physical activity. A key innovation in sports is also the use of fitness trackers and mobile applications that provide personalized training programs and nutritional recommendations.

Evaluasi Analisis “SWOT” Pembinaan Prestasi Olahraga Petanque di Kabupaten Tulungagung

Maximum achievement in sports is the main goal that must be achieved by all athletes, both individually and collectively. Producing peak performance requires scheduled and targeted coaching. Based on this, researchers conducted this research to determine the context, input, process and product for assessing the development of Petanque sports achievements in the Tulungagung area. The research method uses non-experimental methods with qualitative descriptive analysis. From the data sources obtained, this research method is document analysis. The research results show that the development of iron sports achievements has several advantages because this sport is increasingly popular and has received support from the government and society. However, there are also weaknesses in limited infrastructure and lack of funds to develop achievements. Apart from that, a number of opportunities have been identified, such as increasing public interest in the sport of snooker and the potential to produce outstanding athletes at international level. However, there are also threats, such as intense competition from other ancient sports. It was concluded that the achievements of the sport of petanque in Tulungagung were supported by athletes who excelled but did not receive adequate support.

Implementasi Manajemen Peserta Didik dalam Kaderisasi Siswa Berprestasi di SMK MU Cimerak: Studi Kasus Atlet Voli

This research aims to analyze the implementation of student management in the volleyball athlete cadre formation process at SMK MU Cimerak, with a focus on talent identification and development strategies, the challenges faced, as well as the impact of the program on sports achievements and student character development. Using qualitative research methods, data was collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, which was then analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model analysis technique. The research results show that the cadre formation program implemented collaboratively between MTs N 2 Pangandaran and SMK MU Cimerak is effective in developing students' talents and character, despite facing challenges such as limited financial resources and facilities as well as maintaining a balance between sports and academic achievements. This program has succeeded in producing outstanding athletes at the national level and forming students who are disciplined and confident. This research concludes that good student management can increase the effectiveness of cadre formation programs, have a positive impact on developing students' talents and character, and become a model for other schools that wish to develop similar programs.

Meta-analysis of the Correlation between Sport Achievement Goal Orientation and Sport Confidence in Korea

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to meta-analyze the correlation between sport achievement goal orientation and sport-confidence in Korea.METHODS Academic databases (DBpia, KCI, NAL, RISS) were used to search for literature for the metaanalysis. Based on the selection criteria, 22 journal articles and 12 dissertations were selected. The R program was used to calculate publication bias and effect sizes.RESULTS The correlation coefficients of sport achievement goal orientation and sport-confidence variables showed no publication bias, and the meta-analysis was analyzed with a random effects model due to high heterogeneity. The meta-analysis of the correlations between task-orientation achievement goals and sportconfidence variables showed large effect sizes, and among ego-orientation achievement goals and sportconfidence variables, proving skills showed a large effect size. A meta-analysis of the correlation between ego-orientation achievement goals and physical/mental preparation, coach leadership, and social support found moderate effect sizes.CONCLUSIONS Task-orientation achievement goals was more strongly associated with sport-confidence than ego-orientation achievement goals. However, setting goals that take into account both task-orientation and ego-orientation achievement goals may be more effective in improving sport-confidence.

THE LOW SERUM FERRITIN AS AN INDICATOR OF INADEQUATE NUTRITION IN INTERNATIONAL-LEVEL FEMALE SWIMMER

Introduction: Iron deficiency is a common feature in athletes, and optimizing iron levels may become a contributing factor to improved athletic performance. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate body iron stores and their relationship with sports performance. It also sought correlations between the swimmers’ hematological, hormonal, anthropometric, and functional status and their sports achievements. Methodology: The research involved 19 athletes (11 women and 8 men) from the Bulgarian national swimming team. They were tested for maximal aerobic capacity on a cycle ergometer and had blood samples taken to determine iron status and hematological and hormonal markers. Their swimming achievements (Swimming points) were evaluated as a percentage of the world records in the respective discipline. Results: There were statistically significant differences between the female and male swimmers for Unbound Iron Binding Capacity (UIBC) and ferritin. A higher UIBC in women indicated lower iron levels in them. Among female swimmers, five had ferritin levels below 40 ng/mL. In women, a highly reliable correlation between the Swimming points and ferritin concentration (r = .68) was observed. All male swimmers had ferritin values above 40 ng/mL, and there was no reliable correlation between ferritin concentration and Swimming points, probably because ferritin was in the optimal range and is no longer a significant performance factor. Conclusions: In swimmers, the optimal serum ferritin concentration is probably in the range of 40–90 ng/mL. Many female swimmers have a relative iron deficiency with sub-optimal ferritin values. In competitive female swimmers, low ferritin level is an indicator of both iron deficiency and inadequate diet. It can be expected that an adequate nutritional regime in athletes with low ferritin values will lead both to the replenishment of iron stores and to an increase in muscle mass and, ultimately, to an improvement in sports performance.

Achilles tendon rupture: etiology, diagnosis, prevention, repair, complications and their relation to future sports performance in the athletic population

The Achilles tendon is the most powerful and longest in our body. 20% of all serious tendon ruptures involve the Achilles tendon (AT). An AT rupture can be a career-ending injury. Proven risk factors predisposing and preventing tendon rupture are presented, as well as epidemiological data on the incidence of this disease in the population. In addition, it illustrates currently used diagnostic methods and presents the benefits they bring. Achilles tendon ruptures have a detrimental impact on athletic performance, and the most appropriate treatment method and return-to-play recommendations remain controversial. Recent studies show that operative intervention improves strength and functional results and is more effective compared to non-operative treatment combined with rehabilitation. Currently, according to the latest research, surgical intervention should be used, especially in athletes and very physically active people, because it shortens the time to return to full fitness and allows for better sports achievements in the future. However, you should remember about the complications that may result from such treatment. Nevertheless, the benefits of surgery outweigh the possible losses, especially to the athletic population. The purpose of this study is to comprehensively review the relationship between surgical repair of a ruptured AT and future athletic performance in an athlete population. The available research shows the effectiveness, side effects, complications, and benefits of surgical correction of a ruptured tendon in the athlete population, as well as the quality of performance they are able to achieve after recovery.
