Abstract: The purpose of the study is to obtain a clear explanation of the condition of Christian Guided Residents in Class II A Laps in Pontianak. Furthermore, it becomes a reference for the Pastor in particular and the church in general to participate in improving the spiritual quality of Christian Guided Residents in Class II A Laps in Pontianak. This type of research is a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach. The results of this study illustrate the experience of the Shepherd Session Church of the Indonesian Gospel Camp Area Pontianak. In this study researchers conducted several stages, namely: Rereading the results of in-depth interviews. Make verbatim transcripts carefully to analyze data in full from the results of the interview. Clarifying the data by taking verbatim transcripts to all participants. Analyze keywords by underlining or creating meaningful word codes. Analyze several of the same keywords to be organized into categories. Analyzing categories to create themes. The themes that have been arranged are analyzed whether answering the research objectives or by discussing with the supervisor. From the results of the questionnaire and interview questionnaire, two themes are identified, these themes are: First, Non-Intensive Counseling Guidance is Implemented. DAMPAK KONSELING TERHADAP TINGKAT KECEMASAN KLIEN DENGAN RISIKO TINGGI HIV AIDS DI DAERAH PARIWISATA SENGGIGI LOMBOK BARAT

Individuals with high risk of HIV and AIDS who come to the service center VCT (Voluntary Counseling and Testing) feel worried or anxious that he has contracted HIV so he wants to know about his condition. They are usually worried or anxious about the implications of AIDS itself physically, psychologically, spiritually and socially namely the stigma and discrimination of society. Aim: this study was to determine the effect of counseling on changing anxiety levels of clients at high risk of HIV and AIDS. Methods: The design of this study was pre-experiment with one group pre-post-test design approach because before being given treatment, the client first assessed the level of anxiety, then after being given treatment the level of anxiety was re-examined, whether decreased anxiety level or not. The instrument used in this study was the HARS questionnaire. The instrument used in this study was the HARS questionnaire. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with 21 samples. Univariate data analysis used is in the form of narration, frequency and percentage distribution tables, and bivariate analysis using parametric data analysis techniques, namely t-test dependent. Result: This study shows that from 21 respondents before and after counseling, they have a difference of 6.19 with a standar deviation of 4.98. The p value of 0.000 indicates that the value is smaller when comparing the alpha value of 5% (0.05), meaning that there are differences in anxiety before and after counseling, so it can be concluded that there is an influence of spiritual counseling on the level of anxiety in high risk clients of HIV and AIDS in the area Senggigi medical tourism center. Conclusion: provision of counseling that has been going well in order to be maintained and enhanced by holding professional counselors training regularly and continuously.

Correlates of spiritual wellbeing in persons living with Parkinson disease.

Spirituality influences chronic disease coping skills through both positive and negative means. Although previous research notes similar associations between faith and Parkinson disease (PD) management, little is known about spirituality in the context of PD management in a palliative setting. The purpose of this paper is to gain a better understanding of the association between spirituality and PD management to best maximize the effect of spiritual counseling in treatment of the disease. This is a cross-sectional analysis of the baseline data of a larger randomized, controlled trial. Individuals with PD and their caregivers were recruited from three study sites with currently-operating outpatient movement disorders and palliative care programs. Correlations were conducted between FACIT total scores and subscales with hypothesized associative factors, such as quality of life (QOL), mood and cognition, advance care planning, and physical symptoms. Two-hundred and ten PD patients and 175 caregivers participated in the study. FACIT scores correlated positively with older age, existence of a caregiver, and involvement in support groups. Higher spirituality was associated with less impairment in QOL, lower anxiety, lower depression, fewer non-motor symptoms, reduced palliative symptoms, and less prolonged grief. There was no significant association between patient FACIT scores and the MDS UPDRS or MoCA scores. These results highlight the influences of spirituality in PD management and further support the holistic, interdisciplinary care provided to PD patients through palliative care teams offering chaplaincy support to patients.

Reanimated: Navigating Life After a Near-Death Experience

This symposium includes twelve personal narratives from individuals who have had a near-death experience (NDE) in medical or surgical settings. It also includes three commentaries on these narratives by experts in NDEs, healthcare ethics, spiritual counseling, and chaplaincy. The stories and commentaries highlight how healthcare workers' reactions to NDEs may have long-term positive or negative effects on patients and their families. The symposium identifies gaps in care and provides a road map for nonjudgmental and supportive responses to NDEs.

Spiritual counseling on anxiety level in (Lombok) Indonesian earthquake victims

Background: An earthquake has an impact on mental health problems. Lombok earthquake victims undergo an anxiety, neurotic, psychotic symptoms, and Post Traumatic Syndrome Disease. Anxiety have an impact on the mind, body and it cause of physical illness. One of the nursing interventions that can be given to deal with anxiety includes spiritual counseling, which is given so that disaster victims accept their conditions, it is not making disaster a burden and reducing anxiety.Purpose: To determine the effect of Spiritual counseling on anxiety level in (Lombok) Indonesian earthquake victims.Methods: Quantitative study with a pre-experimental approach using one group pre-post-test design on 25 earthquake victims in Lombok. The instrument was used the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale questionnaire and the standard operational procedures for spiritual counseling. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and t dependent test.Results: The anxiety score before spiritual counseling was 19.60 ± 3.26, while the anxiety score after spiritual counseling was 10.04 ± 4.13. Statistical tests showed a significant difference between anxiety levels before and after spiritual counseling for earthquake victims in Lombok (p <0.05).Conclusion: Earthquake victims in order to improve their spiritual quality by joining religious activities routinely to calm the mind and reduce anxiety or trauma, it is caused by earthquakes.

Islamic Spiritual Counseling Techniques

In this study, some Islamic counseling techniques that can be used in psychology have been integrated into the spiritual counseling process. It is thought that introducing and starting to use spiritual counseling techniques based on Islam, would be beneficial to Islamic societies like Turkey. Transferring rich spiritual knowledge in Islam to the therapy process and approaching problem solutions by utilizing the client’s spirituality can contribute to a more effective counseling process. A new point of view is aimed to be brought to spiritual consultants evaluating the values of spiritual counseling in the process of application of using sacred texts, pray, worship, contemplation, patience, gratitude, listening to hymn etc. It is aimed to transfer how they could use the techniques of spiritual counseling in the cultural sensitivity context into psychology consultants in their interventions to spirit. Also, practical interventions and empirical researches in spiritual counseling discussed with theoretical and ethical issues in the name of providing convenience to spiritual consultants. Results show the feasibility and utility of spiritual counseling techniques.

The Impact of Spirituality and Spiritually-Oriented Therapeutic Interventions on Schizophrenia Patients

Schizophrenia, with its various aspects that are as yet as unexplainable and which causes those suffering from it to move away from relationships and reality, is a severe psychiatric disorder that usually deteriorates thinking and behavior from an early age. A general definition of schizophrenia has been mentioned for the purpose of this study without describing the types of schizophrenia in detail. The main axis of the study is what role spirituality may have in increasing schizophrenic patients’ well-being, which is the last step in the model for their medical treatment. A lack of deterioration in patients’ consciousness and short-term memory is very important in order for them to be able to understand the therapeutic practices; the study discusses spiritual counseling practices that can be studied with schizophrenic patients who have no problems in these areas. The study evaluates the concept of insight in schizophrenia patients from different perspectives and includes spiritual counseling practices that can be done with schizophrenia patients possessing high levels of insight. The study continues by examining which individual spiritual counseling practices are possible for patients with schizophrenia and presents the example of group counseling over spiritual counseling practices for patients with schizophrenia as well as which counseling practices can be done for schizophrenic patients and their families. The main aim of this study is to present to clinicians, psychologists, and psychological counselors working in the field a general review of the literature on studies that have examined the relationship between schizophrenia and spirituality and to give them ideas into how to integrate spiritual counseling practices into the process while working with schizophrenia patients and their relatives.

Perception of Spirituality among Substance Addicts with Incarceration Experience: A Phenomenological Study

This paper examines the role of spirituality in a recovery context by drawing on qualitative research conducted at a residential recovery community in North Wales, United Kingdom. The study aimed to examine perceptions of spirituality among exprisoners and people identifying as in recovery from addiction. The researchers explored ideas of “spiritual coping” and “spiritual wellbeing” in terms of meaning, purpose, connectedness, forgiveness, and peace in addiction treatment programs influenced by 12-Step models, for instance, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Also, this paper focuses on both spiritual counseling services shaped by pre-determined meanings and values and secondly, on individuals’ perceptions about spirituality through the language of desires, needs, and expectations. The data for this research produced from five semi-structured interviews with male individuals who had recovered from their addiction and had practised some custodial life. To discover the common context of different perceptions of the language spirituality, the data was coded by the first and second loop encodings from the data analysis methods used. The central schemes that appear as “Spirituality in Experiences, Spirituality in Values, Spirituality as Meaning/Purpose of Life, Spirituality as Attachment, Spirituality as Coping Mechanism” have been evaluated within the framework of the concept of spirituality. In the conclusion of this study, it was observed that spirituality was used as a coping mechanism for buffering the sensation of hopelessness and powerlessness often experienced by people in active addiction.

Effects of Spiritual Counseling on Spiritual Health-Quality of Life in Patients with HIV/AIDS

Background: HIV/AIDS is a chronic and progressive disease that has complex health problems which affect the quality of life. Patients with HIV/AIDS need spiritual support to increase their spiritual health. A more effective therapeutic approach using spiritual counseling is seen as effective for improving health in chronic conditions.Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of spiritual counseling on the quality of life-spiritual health in patients with HIV/AIDS.Methods: This study employed a pre-posttest quasi-experimental design with a control group. The samples were 30 patients each in the experimental group and the control group recruited using purposive sampling. The experimental group received three sessions of spiritual counseling intervention. Data of the quality of life-spiritual health were collected using the WHOQOL-SRPB BREF and analyzed using t-test with significance <0.05. Results: Results indicated significant differences in the spiritual health-quality of life between the control and experimental groups. The result of paired t-test before and after the intervention in the experimental group showed a p-value of <0.05, whereas in the control group, the p-value was >0.05. After the intervention, the p-value in the experimental and control groups was <0.05, indicating significant differences between the two groups.Conclusion: This study concluded that spiritual counseling interventions had an effect on increasing the quality of life-spiritual health in patients with HIV/AIDS. Thus, it is necessary for the hospital to consider the results of this study as one of the interventions in providing nursing care to HIV/AIDS patients.

Self-Appropriation between Social Mourning and Individuation: a Qualitative Study on Psychosocial Transition among Jehovah’s Witnesses

Loss and its associated grief are important elements of many adverse life events. The focus of this study is centred on a particular form of mourning: the affliction derived from the social identity loss caused by the disaffiliation with a religious sect. In postmodern society, this phenomenon needs to be better evaluated because it may be causing severe distress in an increasing number of people. The literature describes the stress caused by switching from one religious group to another, but less analysis has been done on the potential deleterious effects of the loss of social identity because of the breaking down of relationships with people within the original group. Following the grounded theory approach, 14 former Jehovah’s Witnesses were interviewed with interpretative phenomenological analysis. Three main profiles emerged—born into the faith, converts to the faith, and inactive members—with different difficulties deriving from the loss of social identity and the relational network. The inquiry was focused on the effects of the identification versus individuation processes and also addressed the role of death anxiety. Results confirmed on the one hand a high level of distress that often caused death anxiety, alcoholism, panic attacks, and depression, as described in the literature. On the other hand, the importance of the individuation process emerged, following theologian Paul Tillich’s concept of “courage of self-affirmation” and Bernard Lonergan’s “self-appropriation,” whose development occurs in three phases: de-identification and loss, grieving and crisis, and the work of grief and complete self-affirmation or self-appropriation. The usefulness of communicating these specific themes to a broad audience by enhancing community education through widespread spiritual counseling is also addressed.

KONSEP BIMBINGAN DAN KONSELING SPIRITUAL: KERANGKA KERJA UNTUK GURU BIMBINGAN DAN KONSELING

Abstract This study purposed to find the concept of guidance and counseling based on the verses of the Qur'an, which is about the nature of human beings, good and bad attitude with all problems and solutions. The essence of Islamic teachings is to teach monotheism, peace, akhlakul karimah (personality with character). The form of this study is a qualitative library research, the main idea in this literature study is an integrated framework as a reference for the counseling process in guiding students based on the verses of the Qur'an so that students are able to overcome the problem so that students have a tendency being good at determining attitude assessment in the 2013 curriculum. The results of this study concluded: Bahwamanusia is essentially a biological, personal, social, and spiritual being. Good attitude is the tendency of personal behavior that is able to regulate themselves in relation to themselves, others, the environment, and Allah SWT. Bad attitude is the tendency of personal behavior that is not able to regulate themselves in relation to themselves, others, the environment, and Allah SWT. Religion, Faith, Spirituality, and the Beyond in Transactional Analysis

This article discusses religion, faith, and spirituality (RFS) and transactional analysis (TA) psychotherapy and counseling as well as what may be called the beyond. It reviews the literature on RFS within TA in terms of the basic assumptions and principles of TA as well as its four main areas of theory (transactions, ego states, scripts, and games) and categorizes the interplay between TA and RFS. Taking issue with the argument that RFS is and/or should be separate from psychology, the article offers an inclusive view of RFS within TA and TA within RFS and briefly discusses the implication of this for practice, including the personal development, supervision, and education and training of psychotherapists and other TA practitioners.

Spiritual Counseling Program For Single Women In Late-Life Heterosexual Romantic Relationships Across Cultures

This article reports on a 2-year multi-city study on the effectiveness of a spiritual counseling program (SCP) in enhancing relationship satisfaction and reducing adjustment anxieties among single women in late-life heterosexual romantic relationships. Spiritual counseling program efficacy was greater for participants from European and US cities, Christians, elite, widowed or never married, women who participated in eight to 10 SCP rounds, and those who regularly self-practiced. The SCP is an effective intervention for the sustenance and maintenance of single women’s late-life relationships.

This study aims to determine the spiritual behavior of patients rehabilitating drugs. This discussion is entitled Spiritual Counseling Guidance to Rehabilitation Patients. This research is qualitative with a descriptive approach that is observation, an interview. The results showed that the implementation of the rehabilitation of the Patients of Drugs can also be in the form of personality by providing guidance and counseling on the spiritual aspect which includes the aspect of Prayer Fulfillment performed by the five subjects are conducted simultaneously namely the practice of worship, the belief of life (Universality) as well as the responsibility of their life (Linkage) they have fully undergone as rehabilitation patients. There are an attitude and mental change from a previously dependent patient to a person who can manage himself well and more appreciate the meaning of life.

Professors’ Attitudes Toward Considering Spirituality and Spiritual Counseling and Training During Medical Education Among Medical Students: A Qualitative Study

Background and aim: Spirituality is considered as one of the dimensions of health, along with physical, psychological and social health which includes an element of excellence and transcendence. However, it is unclear whether contemporary medical professors in Iran still considering this concept in their training program. This study assesses the professors' attitude toward considering spirituality and spiritual counseling and training during medical education among medical students.Materials and methods: This is a qualitative study with conventional content analysis method. 43 participants, who were main stakeholders in medical education were selected by convenience sampling. Data were collected using structured interviews from September to October 2017, which continued until data saturation.Ethical consideration: the principles of ethics and integrity in the research, citation and literature analysis were taken into consideration.Finding: Three main themes and their categories were extracted from analysis of data. The themes are (1) helping to solve the students' spiritual problems and challenges (2), Psycho-spiritual characteristics of medical student (3), training spiritual concepts.Conclusion: A majority of professors acknowledged the use of spirituality concepts in medical education. It seems that implementation of such programs requires attention to facilitating factors and challenges proposed by those involved.

THE EFFECTS OF SPIRITUAL COUNSELING ON THE ANXIETY LEVEL OF PATIENT’S FAMILY AT THE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (ICU) OF DR. DRADJAT PRAWIRANEGARA HOSPITAL IN SERANG, BANTEN PROVINCE, INDONESIA

Background: Critical nursing is a specific service in giving a holistic nursing service to fulfill human response to a life-threatening problem. A critical nurse can give a social support to patient’s family through assessment, counseling, and supporting group. Counseling is combination between high technology physical caring and emotional caring, which is needed by patients and the family. Spiritual counseling is a complementary medication preferred by the family of patient who is in acute and critical care.
 Objective: The study aimed to identify the effects of spiritual counseling on the anxiety level of patient’s family at the ICU of dr. Dradjat Prawiranegara Hospital in Serang, Banten Province, Indonesia.
 Methods: The study was a pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design. The samples were 25 respondents selected using consecutive sampling technique during one month (May to June 2016). The data of anxiety level were collected using HAR-S (Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety) questionnaire. The data were analyzed using parametrical t-test paired sample for the variable of anxiety before and after giving spiritual counseling. Meanwhile, the variable of respondents’ characteristics to anxiety was analyzed by using independent sample test.
 Results: The study found that the mean of respondents’ anxiety level before spiritual counseling was 33.44 and the standard deviation was 5.213. Meanwhile, after conducting spiritual counseling, the mean was 18.60 and the standard deviation was 2.582. Bivariate analysis result showed a significant difference between anxiety level of patient’s family in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) before and after conducting spiritual counseling in which p value was 0.000, with the mean value of 14.840 and SD of 5.437.
 Conclusion: Nurses should be more capable in implementing the intervention of spiritual counseling to patient’s family. Spiritual counseling can give a positive alteration to the family emotional situation. It impacts on the decrease of patient’s family anxiety level. By the decrease of family anxiety level, the possibility of doing mistake in decision-making is expected to be avoided.
