Modernisation of Social Conscience: Topical Problems of Literary Local Lore

Literary study of local lore is a specific area of knowledge about the history of literature, which is distinct in a special selection of material, and an aspect of its consideration. Local lore contributes to the learning of historical, cultural, geographical peculiarities of a particular territory. This paper deals with the issues of local lore. The research of the artistic heritage of poets and writers of the Cis-Ural Region, West-Kazakh District is one of the topical problems of contemporary literature.In this paper, the works of the Russian poets are discussed considering the writers of the 20th –early 21st centuries, such as A.S. Pushkin, V.I. Dahl, M.A. Sholokhov and the great Tatar poet Gabdulla Tuqay. It has been establishedthat the best of Gabdulla’sworks, included in the gold reserves of the Tartar literature, was written in the town of Uralsk. It has also been establishedthat the poets and writers of the Cis-Ural Region contributed new genres to the literature, namely prose and drama. The study of cultural and spiritual ties with kindred Turkic-speaking peoples today is one of the priorities of the Kazakh literary criticism. At the same time, the authors have found the following ways of solution of such tasks: the introduction of the “LiteraryLocal Lore” elective course to the study process of secondary and high schools, writing of monographs, and compilation of anthologies. The paper will be useful for teaching the subject of "Literary Regional Studies" becausethe course based on the cognitive material, which considers and propagates the development and prosperity of the national fictional literature, as well as its investigation from a scientific point of view and transmission of the values to the younger generation.

A body of knowledge representation model of ecotourism products in southeastern Ecuador

The corpus of knowledge or Bodies of Knowledge (BOK) term it used to describe a set of structures than codify all concept, terms, techniques, and sustainable activities that constitute the domain of the exercise of a profession or specific area of knowledge in our case in Ecotourism context. Ecotourism combines passion for travel with the interest in the preservation of nature and it is related to concepts of sustainability, conservation and participation of the local community, this term has been used to promote tourism activities in the natural environment and attract tourists interested in nature and culture of places to visit. In the Amazon rainforest ecotourism is an activity that contributes both to the awareness of travelers and the communities, in addition to income generated by this activity helps to preserve this heritage. The aim of this article is to contribute to the estimation of discrete choice models in order to analyze individual preferences, by analyzing the demand for ecotourism products in Ecuador's southeastern region, province of Zamora Chinchipe, using data obtained from surveys conducted during 2018, which provide information about the preferences of visitors to the area, through discrete choice experiments, and supported on BOK model. This experiment consisted in the creation of twelve choice scenarios defined by two hypothetical ecotourism products each. Thus, the alternatives were defined in terms of the following attributes: price, hiking, participation in rituals, tasting local cuisine, visit to crafts center and experience of community life (codes of BOK).

Un desafío para el docente: la modelación matemática contextualizada. Caso aplicado a conminución de sólidos

Actualmente, los programas de ingeniería de la gran mayoría de universidades peruanas existe una gran desvinculación entre los cursos de ciencias básicas (hoy llamados estudios generales, según el Artículo N. 41 de la nueva Ley Universitaria 30220) y los cursos de ingeniería según la especialidad, razón por la cual se presenta el siguiente trabajo de investigación, el cual tiene como principal objetivo proponer una estrategia didáctico-metodológico que le permita al docente estructurar de modo sistemático la habilidad de modelar matemáticamente problemas del mundo real contextualizándolos, ya que los estudiantes universitarios en un futuro no muy lejano se insertarán en un mundo laboral altamente cambiante y competitivo en donde tendrán que dar solución a problemas reales. De esa manera, se pretende afianzar los aprendizajes en los estudiantes universitarios a su área específica de conocimiento, ya que cuando ellos se enfrentan a situaciones que le atañan a su profesión es cuando comienzan a comprender la importancia de los cursos de ciencias básicas y finalmente el aprendizaje significativo se da cuando ellos logran vincular dichos conocimientos con la realidad en su respectivo ámbito profesional. Es así como en este artículo se presentan situaciones contextualizadas, como parte de mi periplo en la enseñanza universitaria, específicamente en la asignatura de Operaciones Unitarias que se imparte en la especialidad de Ingeniería Industrial de la Universidad Católica Sedes Sapientiae, se aborda el tema de conminución de sólidos, aplicando la estrategia de modelación matemática contextualizada, dentro del marco de un problema real que se da en la industria.

Exploring an Ethnography-Based Knowledge Network Model for Professional Communication Analysis of Knowledge Integration

Research problem: In contemporary knowledge-intensive spaces, workers often team with experts from different disciplinary backgrounds and different geographic locations and, thus, they face the challenge of integrating knowledge in their work. When modeling how communication can be improved in these circumstances, previous studies have often relied on social network analysis to understand the aggregate exchanges among team members. In this study, rather than analyze social networks (people linked by communication), we argue that network analysis of knowledge networks (people linked by common knowledge) presents an opportunity to better understand and address the challenge of knowledge integration in organizational contexts. Research questions: 1. How can professional communicators use the distribution of knowledge on teams as a structure for planning interventions in the work of complex, collaborative teams? 2. What kinds of insights do networks of specific knowledge areas offer professional communicators about team communication challenges? Literature review: We describe prior uses of network analysis in professional communication research that inform our development of a knowledge network. In particular, we review current literature and highlight network-based concepts that we believe are organizing principles of knowledge networks. Previous literature has shown that network models, particularly social network models, are useful tools for professional communication researchers to examine a range of communication factors and practices. However, professional communication research has yet to fully explore the possible contributions of knowledge networks to understand communication processes. Methodology: We conducted an ethnography of a team science collaboration and used observations to create a survey of terms that measured subjects’ self-professed understanding of key concepts. We used the survey results to produce a bimodal network model of agents and terms, in which we binarized link values after filtering for only the highest-rated terms for each subject. Results: The model demonstrated that the team collaboration broke into two distinct groupings. Ego networks extracted from this parent network showed that concepts commonly well-understood in the team join together multiple subgroups of expert knowledge. Conclusions: The knowledge network is a useful instrument in helping team members understand possibilities for integrating knowledge across disciplines and subspecialties. The visual produced by this model also can be useful for developing research questions and strategizing work processes.

An Interprofessional Residency Clinic Curriculum for Geriatrics and Palliative Care.

Caring for geriatrics and palliative care patients requires integrated interprofessional care. Studies regarding interprofessional education in family medicine reveal concerns by residents regarding applicability in future practice. Our study objective was to determine the effectiveness of teaching multispecialty geriatric and palliative care skills to family medicine residents using an interprofessional clinic curriculum. We evaluated an interprofessional geriatric and palliative care outpatient curriculum from March 2014 to June 2015. The interprofessional team included pharmacists, psychologists, family medicine geriatricians, and palliative care providers. Family medicine residents in a 3-year residency program completed pre- and postassessments evaluating their confidence and knowledge in specific areas of geriatric and palliative care. These assessments covered their abilities in starting advance care planning and setting goals in care discussions, as well as fall and depression assessment and elderly medication review. The subsequent resident perception of teaching effectiveness was also assessed. Qualitative comments were evaluated for themes. Patient perceptions were also surveyed. Family medicine residents completed 52 surveys (51%). Improvements in all areas were significant (P<0.05). Postevaluation mean scores by year and by session demonstrated significant improvements in palliative care tools and teaching effectiveness. Qualitative comments revealed three themes: overall positive or negative educational value and understanding of assessments, reflection on interprofessional collaboration and team experience value, and improvements in logistics and collaboration. Patient satisfaction surveys reported improved satisfaction with their PCMH. The use of an interprofessional and multispecialty clinic curriculum to teach geriatric and palliative care improved resident self-assessed knowledge and confidence as well as teaching effectiveness. Further studies evaluating resident exposure to such visits could substantiate the long-term influence of this educational endeavor.

Mapping built environment professionals’ educational needs to international policy frameworks for disaster risk reduction – community stakeholder perspective

PurposeDisaster risk reduction is prominent in the international policy agenda, and the year 2015 brought together three international policy frameworks that contribute to disaster risk reduction (i.e. the Sendai framework for disaster risk reduction, the Sustainable Development Goals and Paris Climate Change Agreement – COP21). However, there is a dearth of effort at identifying and aligning the specific educational needs of built environment professionals with the three policy frameworks. This is needed to facilitate the incorporation of the contents of the policy frameworks into built environment professionals’ training. Therefore, this study aims to map the educational needs of built environment professionals with the core areas of the three international policy frameworks.Design/methodology/approachThis study utilized CADRE (Collaborative Action towards Disaster Resilience Education) research project outcomes alongside the earlier mentioned three international policy frameworks. A comprehensive desk review was done to map the educational needs identified in the CADRE project with the core priority areas of the three policy frameworks.FindingsThe study revealed the educational needs that are significant towards an effective implementation of the core priority areas of the three international policy frameworks.Practical implicationsThis study would be beneficial to the built environment professionals involved in disaster risk reduction. They will be aware of the specific knowledge areas that would aid the successful implementation of the aforementioned three international policy frameworks.Originality/valueThe outcomes of the study would be beneficial to higher education providers in disaster risk reduction and sustainable development. It has identified the knowledge and competency gaps needed to be bridged in the curricula to meet the demands created by the international policy frameworks.

Formação continuada em serviço: metatexto das memórias de professores do Ensino Fundamental em fase final de carreira

Este artigo visa comunicar parte dos resultados de uma pesquisa que teve como objetivo desvelar as memórias de professores do Ensino Fundamental em fase final de carreira da Rede Municipal de Ensino de Blumenau (SC) sobre a formação continuada em serviço, vivenciada em suas carreiras docentes. Realizou-se uma pesquisa socio-histórica, de abordagem qualitativa, sustentada em Gatti e Barretto (2009), Davis, Nunes e Almeida (2011), Nóvoa (2009; 2013) e Imbernón (2010; 2011). Os dados foram gerados por meio de cartas pessoais e técnica de complemento. O método de análise empregado foi a Análise Textual Discursiva. A pesquisa envolveu 14 professores em fase final de carreira da Rede Municipal de Ensino de Blumenau (SC). Os resultados indicaram as seguintes marcas positivas: diferentes modalidades formativas; relevância do curso do Magistério em nível de Ensino Médio; cursos do governo federal; formadores da própria rede de ensino e de profissionais externos; formação durante o horário de trabalho; formações por áreas específicas do conhecimento e grupos menores; encontros formativos mensais ou quinzenais; espaço de formação comum; troca de experiências; parceria entre professor experiente e iniciante; protagonismo do professor; equilíbrio entre teoria e prática; formação na escola; e análise de situações problemáticas. Em relação às marcas negativas, os dados revelaram: problemas em relação à eficiência e à qualidade da formação ofertada pelos formadores da SEMED; ausência de formações inovadoras e atraentes; práticas ocasionais, ausência ou descontinuidade na formação; pouco tempo disponível para a realização da formação; falta de acolhimento no período de inserção profissional; ausência do trabalho colaborativo; comodismo, desinteresse do professor na formação; descontinuidade de políticas educacionais eficazes; opiniões dos professores não são ouvidas; e excesso de teoria distante da prática. Recomenda-se ouvir os professores em fase final de carreira e realizar diagnóstico das suas necessidades formativas para elaborar uma política de formação continuada.

Level of physiological, anatomical and pathological knowledge of the singing voice on the part of professional and amateur singers

ABSTRACT Purpose: the knowledge concerning care of the voice on the part of professional and amateur singers in Chile is relevant for voice professionals and also for speech pathologists who work in disorder prevention and voice care. It is important to know if there are differences between both groups regarding the knowledge of voice care. Methods: the "Vocal Awareness Questionnaire for Singers'' was applied to a sample of 66 singers: 33 professional and 33 amateur singers. Three areas of knowledge were evaluated: anatomy and physiology of the larynx, vocal hygiene and voice pathologies. Results: there were no significant differences in the knowledge of voice care between professional and amateur singers both at a general level and in specific areas of knowledge. The topic of vocal hygiene obtained the highest percentage of correct answers in both groups, while the lowest percentage was in the area of voice pathologies. Conclusions: there were no differences in the level of knowledge on voice care between the professional and amateur singers included in this study. In both groups, the level of knowledge was from low to moderate. This could increase the incidence of vocal pathologies in both groups.

The Relationship Between Diet Nutrition Knowledge and Demographic Characteristics in Family Caregivers of Patients With Dementia

Although the general-care knowledge of family caregivers related to dementia had been studied, little attention has been given to understanding the knowledge of caregivers related to dementia diet nutrition. This knowledge is important to help caregivers handle the eating and nutrition problems of people with dementia (PwD). The purpose of this study was to explore the dementia diet nutrition knowledge of family primary caregivers and to analyze whether demographic characteristics of caregivers and/or the dementia stages of PwD have a relationship with dementia diet nutrition knowledge. A descriptive and cross-sectional study using a questionnaire survey was conducted. A total of 220 primary family caregivers of people with dementia were recruited. Results showed that the average total score for the 13 questions on diet nutrition knowledge was 71.85%. Moreover, only 28.2% of the participants answered the question "Malnutrition is a significant risk during the early stage of dementia" correctly. In addition, the findings showed significant differences in the diet nutrition knowledge of participants based on education level (F = 3.989, p < .05) and the use of foreign (non-Taiwanese) caregivers (t = -2.919, p < .01). The participants had sufficient overall diet nutrition knowledge of dementia. However, they lacked knowledge in specific areas. Family caregivers with higher levels of education and those who hired foreign caregivers had better knowledge scores. The results may be used as a reference for nurses providing dementia dietary education. It is recommended that special attention be given to dietary education when patients are at the early onset phase of the disease and when caregivers have a lower level of education in order to improve the overall quality of dementia dietary care in the community.

Evaluation of the Project Echo Tele-Mentoring Model for Knowledge Sharing and Technical Assistance in Cancer Control Planning and Implementation

Background: There is increasing demand for dissemination and implementation of evidence-based guidelines in cancer control. In 2017, the National Cancer Institute's Center for Global Health (NCI-CGH) partnered with University of New Mexico and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center to provide the Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) model of tele-mentoring as an extension of existing programs that convene relevant stakeholders for knowledge sharing and technical assistance in national cancer control planning. In early 2018, NCI-CGH launched Project ECHO programs in the Caribbean, Asia-Pacific, and sub-Saharan Africa regions, and began plans for implementation in south Asia. As a new approach for the center in program development, NCI-CGH included evaluation measures from the inception of the program to adequately measure its efficacy. Aim: Evaluation of NCI-CGH Project ECHO programs will guide future program development, and assess achievement of the program's goals: (1) to increase individual participant knowledge in specific areas; (2) to improve application of the knowledge learned; and (3) to increase collaboration within and among countries. Methods: Using Project ECHO Evaluation 101, a guide developed by the New York Academy of Medicine, NCI-CGH developed a comprehensive logic model including a concise list of program outcomes prior to the launch of ECHO programs. NCI-CGH used the logic model to develop and pilot-test a Web-based baseline and post-ECHO survey, to be completed by participants in each program, that measures participants' knowledge of cancer control planning principles and strategies. NCI-CGH conducted the baseline survey for all three ECHO programs. The post-ECHO survey will be distributed at the conclusion of each program. Each program is expected to run for approximately six months to one year. Results: Response rates for baseline surveys were: 32% in the Caribbean, 43% in Asia-Pacific, and 78% in sub-Saharan Africa. Respondents (by region) reported high levels of knowledge of the following evidence-based principles and guidelines: the Caribbean - HPV vaccination, Asia-Pacific - cervical cancer early diagnosis, sub-Saharan Africa - raising awareness. Low levels of knowledge were reported for: psychosocial support for cancer patients, family members, and caregivers in the Caribbean; survivorship care for cancer patients in Asia-Pacific; and alcohol consumption control in sub-Saharan Africa. This presentation will highlight baseline and post-ECHO survey analysis findings and the impact of these data on future program development. Conclusion: Inclusion of evaluation measures in the design phase of NCI-CGH Project ECHO tele-mentoring programs enhanced planning efforts by providing a blueprint for developing program curricula, creating an embedded system for gathering data from participants, and informing the pathway to future improvements.

ТЕРМИНОЛОГИЧЕСКАЯ АНТОНИМИЯ В ЛЕКСИКЕ РУССКОГО И АНГЛИЙСКОГО ЯЗЫКОВ (НА ПРИМЕРЕ ТЕРМИНОСИСТЕМЫ НЕФТЕГАЗОПРОМЫСЛОВОЙ ГЕОЛОГИИ)

The article is devoted to the identification and definition of opposite configurations of meanings in the Russian- and English-language terminological systems of oil and gas field geology. To solve the problem, the author ascertains the place of antonyms in the coordinate system of a particular area of knowledge, reveals their role in the structuring of its notions. The terms-antonyms are analyzed in synchrony in terms of comparative linguistics. The author considers the types and subtypes of the antonyms functioning in the terminological system under study, and carries out the comparative analysis of them. As a result of the research, it is concluded that the terms-antonyms of the Russian- and English-language terminological systems of oil and gas field geology have a developed system of interrelations, a similar structure and express relations of contrast.

Establishment and application of Enterprise management maturity model based on multimedia data information systems

Project management maturity model is a method and tool to help the project management organizations evaluate and improve their own project management level, and it has important guiding significance for enterprise project management practice in our country. This paper combines China’s project management knowledge system and enterprise application characteristics, and we put forward the project process management maturity model based on the established evaluation index system, and expound the key practice in each level, finally this paper explores the method for passing through the project management maturity model of enterprise of our country. A maturity model can help organizations identify their location in specific knowledge areas and to improve them. Information resource management regards information as the main organizational resource. Therefore, we evaluate and improve the present situation of enterprise management, which plays a decisive role in the development of organizational information structure. Multimedia technology is a new information acquisition and processing technology. Multimedia sensor networks focus more on the collection and processing of large amount of data, such as audio, video, images and so on. We introduce the concept and characteristics of multimedia sensor network in this paper, and focus on the research progress at home and abroad and the challenges facing the multimedia sensor network, finally we analyze the current problems need to be solved, and the prospect of its future development trend. Besides this, we construct the multimedia data information systems to help better implementing the proposed model. The numerical verification proves the effectiveness of the proposed method.

A Culture-Centered Community-Grounded Approach to Disseminating Health Information among African Americans

ABSTRACTThis study highlights the role of local communities in creating culturally rooted health information resources based on comparative effectiveness research (CER), depicting the role of culture in creating entry points for building community-grounded communication structures for evidence-based health knowledge. We report the results from running a year-long culture-centered campaign that was carried out among African American communities in two counties, Lake and Marion County, in Indiana addressing basic evidence-based knowledge on four areas of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Campaign effectiveness was tested through an experimental design with post-test knowledge of CER among African Americans in these counties compared to CER knowledge among African Americans in a comparable control county (Allen). Our campaign, based on the principles of the culture-centered approach (CCA), increased community CER knowledge in the experimental communities relative to a community that did not receive the culturally centered health information campaign. The CCA-based campaign developed by community members and distributed through the mass media, community wide channels such as health fairs and church meetings, postcards, and face-to-face interventions explaining the postcards improved CER knowledge in specific areas (ACE-I/ARBs, atrial fibrillation, and renal artery stenosis) in the CCA communities as compared to the control community.

The 100 most cited articles on oral cancer

Citations analysis is one of the most widely used bibliometric tools to evaluate the academic importance of a study in a specific area of knowledge. The objective of this study was to identify the 100 most cited articles on oral cancer and to analyse their principal characteristics. We performed a literature search in the Web of Science database using the Science Citation Index Expanded tool to determine the number of citations of all articles on oral cancer identified up to 10 August 2017. The 100 most referenced articles were then selected, and the following information was gathered: ranking based on the number of citations; citation density; citations in Scopus; number and names of the authors; language and year of publication; country and institution of origin; financial support; journal of publication, with its impact factor, category and quartile; type of research; evidence level; and area of study. The number of citations of the 100 articles varied from 1959 to 165, and the number of authors varied from a single author to 23. The oldest article was from 1948, and the most recent was from 2013. All the studies were published in English, the majority (56%) was from the United States, and 80% were published in journals in the first quartile. The majority of articles were of studies that had received financial support, were published in journals with a high impact factor and were focussed on the aetiology and pathogenesis of oral cancer.

Imagination and Educational Curriculum: A Literature Review

Abstract This article reports a literature review focused on the areas of psychology and education that aimed to identify if academic research has been addressing the topic imagination as a psychological process of human development; and also if research articulates imagination and educational processes through the educational curriculum. For this review, 39 research papers published in the last five years were selected. The analysis of the articles revealed articulations between imagination and some specific areas of knowledge. However, in most articles, imagination was only peripherally addressed. In conclusion, we emphasize the need to deepen the discussion on imagination and education, which should be given due importance in curricular documents.

Defining interdisciplinary competencies for audiological rehabilitation: findings from a modified Delphi study

Objectives: The aim of this study is to derive a consensus on an interdisciplinary competency framework regarding a holistic approach for audiological rehabilitation (AR), which includes disciplines from medicine, engineering, social sciences and humanities. Design: We employed a modified Delphi method. In the first round survey, experts were asked to rate an initial list of 28 generic interdisciplinary competencies and to propose specific knowledge areas for AR. In the second round, experts were asked to reconsider their answers in light of the group answers of the first round. Study sample: An international panel of 27 experts from different disciplines in AR completed the first round. Twenty-two of them completed the second round. Results: We developed a competency framework consisting of 21 generic interdisciplinary competencies grouped in five domains and nine specific competencies (knowledge areas) in three clusters. Suggestions for the implementation of the generic competencies in interdisciplinary programmes were identified. Conclusions: This study reveals insights into the interdisciplinary competencies that are unique for AR. The framework will be useful for educators in developing interdisciplinary programmes as well as for professionals in considering their lifelong training needs in AR.

From magma ascent to ash generation: investigating volcanic conduit processes by integrating experiments, numerical modeling, and observations

Processes occurring in volcanic conduits, the pathways through which magma travels from its storage region to the surface, have a fundamental control on the nature of eruptions and associated phenomena. It has been well established that magma flows, crystallizes, degasses, and fragments in conduits, that fluids migrate in and out of conduits, and that seismic and acoustic waves are generated and travel within conduits. A better understanding of volcanic conduits and related processes is of paramount importance for improving eruption forecasting, volcanic hazard assessment and risk mitigation. However, despite escalating advances in the characterization of individual conduit processes, our understanding of their mutual interactions and the consequent control on volcanic activity is still limited. With the purpose of addressing this topic, a multidisciplinary workshop led by a group of international scientists was hosted from 25 to 27 October 2014 by the Pisa branch of the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia under the sponsorship of the MeMoVolc Research Networking Programme of the European Science Foundation. The workshop brought together the experimental, theoretical, and observational communities devoted to volcanological research. After 3 days of oral and poster presentations, breakout sessions, and plenary discussions, the participants identified three main outstanding issues common to experimental, analytical, numerical, and observational volcanology: unsteadiness (or transience), disequilibrium, and uncertainty. A key outcome of the workshop was to identify the specific knowledge areas in which exchange of information among the sub-disciplines would lead to efficient progress in addressing these three main outstanding issues. It was clear that multidisciplinary collaboration of this sort is essential for progressing the state of the art in understanding of conduit magma dynamics and eruption behavior. Application of the Technology Life Cycle and S-Curves to the “Brain Drain” Area of Knowledge

Objective: The purpose of this paper is to apply an S-curve methodology to the area of knowledge of brain drain. Methods and Analysis: Thirteen non-linear models were applied through the statistical software SigmaPlot (online version) in an accumulated data series of articles obtained in the online data base SCOPUS. Afterwards, the inflection point was calculated and such was validated through “p” and “t” values. In addition, the Durbin Watson and adjusted R square values were also calculated. Findings: After the application of the thirteen non-linear models: sigmoidal 3, 4 and 5 parameters, logistic 3 and 4 parameters, Weibull 4 and 5 parameters, Gompertz 3 and 4 parameters, Hill 3 and 4 parameters and Chapman 4 and 5 parameters, the models with the best fit were sigmoidal and logistic, which gave an inflection point in the year 2023. These models were validated through the following ranges: T value greater than 2 or less than-2, P value less than 0.005. Given that the inflection point occurs in the future, this presents a great opportunity for academics and researchers who focus the topic of brain drain to publish given the high dynamism in online databases like SCOPUS. Novelty: The S-curve methodology and technology life cycle (usually executed in subjects related to technology) was implemented in this article with the innovative approach to apply it to a specific area of knowledge.
