Automated DeepLabV3+ based model for left ventricle segmentation on short-axis late gadolinium enhancement-magnetic cardiac resonance imaging images

Accurate segmentation of myocardial scar tissue on late gadolinium enhancement-magnetic cardiac resonance imaging (LGE-CMR) is exceptionally vital for clinical applications, enabling precise diagnosis and effective treatment of various cardiac diseases, such as myocardial infarction and cardiomyopathies. However, the ventricle (LV) variations in the size and shape, artifacts, and image resolution of LGE-CMR has made automatic segmentation of myocardial scar tissue more challenging. While many existing approaches delineate the LV myocardium region using multi-modal segmentation, these models may be computationally complex and suffer from misalignment. Therefore, this study proposed an automatic dual-stage DeepLabV3+ based approach tailored for myocardial scar segmentation on short-axis LGE-MRI exclusively. To segment myocardial scar tissue, the second stage employs the segmented LV chamber from the previous stage. The encoder part of the framework utilizes a MobileNetV2 and ResNet50 backbone for the first and second segmentation, respectively, aiming for optimal resolution of feature maps. Both stages tailor an improved Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling module in the DeepLabV3+ model with fine-tuned dilated atrous rates to effectively extract the LV chamber and myocardial scar from the complex LGE-MRI background. Based on the results, the proposed dual-stage network recorded an outstanding segmentation performance, with mean Dice score of 96.02% for LV chamber segmentation and 68.01% for scar tissue extraction.

Efficient Multi-scale Network for Semantic Segmentation of fine-Resolution Remotely Sensed Images

Abstract Semantic segmentation of remote sensing urban scene images has diverse practical applications, including land cover mapping, urban change detection, environmental protection, and economic evaluation. However, classical semantic segmentation networks encounter challenges such as inadequate utilization of multi-scale semantic information and imprecise edge target segmentation in high-resolution remote sensing images. In response, this article introduces an Efficient Multi-scale Network (EMNet) tailored for semantic segmentation of common features in remote sensing images.To address these challenges, EMNet integrates several key components. Firstly, the Efficient Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling module(EASPP) is employed to enhance the relevance of multi-scale targets, facilitating improved extraction and processing of context information across different scales. Secondly, the Efficient Multi-Scale Attention mechanism (EMA)and multi-scale jump connections are utilized to fuse semantic features from various levels, thereby achieving precise segmentation boundaries and accurate position information. Finally, an encoder-decoder structure is incorporated to refine the segmentation results.The effectiveness of the proposed network is validated through experiments conducted on the publicly available DroneDeploy image dataset. Results indicate that EMNet achieves impressive performance metrics, with Mean Intersection over Union (MIoU), Mean Pixel Accuracy (MPA), Mean Precision (MPrecision), and Mean Recall (MRecall) reaching 75.99%, 85.08%, 86.76%, and 85.07%, respectively. Comparative analysis demonstrates that the network proposed in this article outperforms current mainstream semantic segmentation networks on the DroneDeploy dataset.

Research on Improved Road Visual Navigation Recognition Method Based on DeepLabV3+ in Pitaya Orchard

Traditional DeepLabV3+ image semantic segmentation methods face challenges in pitaya orchard environments characterized by multiple interference factors, complex image backgrounds, high computational complexity, and extensive memory consumption. This paper introduces an improved visual navigation path recognition method for pitaya orchards. Initially, DeepLabV3+ utilizes a lightweight MobileNetV2 as its primary feature extraction backbone, which is augmented with a Pyramid Split Attention (PSA) module placed after the Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (ASPP) module. This improvement enhances the spatial feature representation of feature maps, thereby sharpening the segmentation boundaries. Additionally, an Efficient Channel Attention Network (ECANet) mechanism is integrated with the lower-level features of MobileNetV2 to reduce computational complexity and refine the clarity of target boundaries. The paper also designs a navigation path extraction algorithm, which fits the road mask regions segmented by the model to achieve precise navigation path recognition. Experimental findings show that the enhanced DeepLabV3+ model achieved a Mean Intersection over Union (MIoU) and average pixel accuracy of 95.79% and 97.81%, respectively. These figures represent increases of 0.59 and 0.41 percentage points when contrasted with the original model. Furthermore, the model’s memory consumption is reduced by 85.64%, 84.70%, and 85.06% when contrasted with the Pyramid Scene Parsing Network (PSPNet), U-Net, and Fully Convolutional Network (FCN) models, respectively. This reduction makes the proposed model more efficient while maintaining high segmentation accuracy, thus supporting enhanced operational efficiency in practical applications. The test results for navigation path recognition accuracy reveal that the angle error between the navigation centerline extracted using the least squares method and the manually fitted centerline is less than 5°. Additionally, the average deviation between the road centerlines extracted under three different lighting conditions and the actual road centerline is only 2.66 pixels, with an average image recognition time of 0.10 s. This performance suggests that the study can provide an effective reference for visual navigation in smart agriculture.

The Cost of Urban Renewal: Annual Construction Waste Estimation via Multi-Scale Target Information Extraction and Attention-Enhanced Networks in Changping District, Beijing

Construction waste is an inevitable byproduct of urban renewal, causing severe pressure on the environment, health, and ecology. Accurately estimating the production of construction waste is crucial for assessing the consumption of urban renewal. However, traditional manual estimation methods rely heavily on statistical data and historical experience, which lack flexibility in practical applications and are time-consuming and labor-intensive. In addition, their accuracy and timeliness need to be improved urgently. Fortunately, with the advantages of high-resolution remote sensing images (HRSIs) such as strong timeliness, large amounts of information, and macroscopic observations, they are suitable for the large-scale dynamic change detection of construction waste. However, the existing deep learning models have a relatively poor ability to extract and fuse features for small and multi-scale targets, and it is difficult to deal with irregularly shaped and fragmented detection areas. Therefore, this study proposes a Multi-scale Target Attention-Enhanced Network (MT-AENet), which is used to dynamically track and detect changes in buildings and construction waste disposal sites through HRSIs and accurately estimate the annual production of urban construction waste. The MT-AENet introduces a novel encoder–decoder architecture. In the encoder, ResNet-101 is utilized to extract high-level semantic features. A depthwise separable-atrous spatial pyramid pooling (DS-ASPP) module with different dilation rates is constructed to address insufficient receptive fields, resolving the issue of discontinuous holes when extracting large targets. A dual-attention mechanism module (DAMM) is employed to better preserve positional and channel details. In the decoder, multi-scale feature fusion (MS-FF) is utilized to capture contextual information, integrating shallow and intermediate features of the backbone network, thereby enhancing extraction capabilities in complex scenes. The MT-AENet is used to extract buildings and construction waste at different periods in the study area, and the actual production and landfill volume of construction waste are calculated based on area changes, indirectly measuring the rate of urban construction waste resource conversion. The experimental results in Changping District, Beijing demonstrate that the MT-AENet outperforms existing baseline networks in extracting buildings and construction waste. The results of this study are validated according to government statistical standards, providing a promising direction for efficiently analyzing the consumption of urban renewal.

WDFA-YOLOX: A Wavelet-Driven and Feature-Enhanced Attention YOLOX Network for Ship Detection in SAR Images

Ships are important targets for modern naval warfare detection and reconnaissance. The accurate detection of ships contributes to the maintenance of maritime rights and interests and the realisation of naval strategy. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image detection tasks play a vital role in ship detection, which has consistently been a research hotspot in the field of SAR processing. Although significant progress has been achieved in SAR ship detection techniques using deep learning methods, some challenges still persist. Natural images and SAR images significantly diverge in imaging mechanisms and scattering characteristics. In complex background environments, ships exhibit multiscale variations and dense arrangements, and numerous small-sized ships may be present, culminating in false or missed detections. To address these issues, we propose a novel SAR ship detection network, namely, a Wavelet-Driven Feature-Enhanced Attention–You Only Look Once X (WDFA-YOLOX) network. Firstly, we propose a Wavelet Cascade Residual (WCR) module based on the traditional image processing technique wavelet transform, which is embedded within an improved Spatial Pyramid Pooling (SPP) module, culminating in the formation of the effective wavelet transform-based SPP module (WSPP). The WSPP compensates for the loss of fine-grained feature information during pooling, enhancing the capability of the network to detect ships amidst complex background interference. Secondly, a Global and Local Feature Attention Enhancement (GLFAE) module is proposed, leveraging a parallel structure that combines convolutional modules with transformer modules to reduce the effect of irrelevant information and effectively strengthens valid features associated with small-sized ships, resulting in a reduction in false negatives in small-sized ship detection. Finally, a novel loss function, the Chebyshev distance-generalised IoU loss function, is proposed to significantly enhance both the precision of the detection box and the network convergence speed. To support our approach, we performed thorough experiments on the SSDD and HRSID, achieving an average precision (AP) of 99.11% and 96.20%, respectively, in ship detection. The experimental results demonstrate that WDFA-YOLOX has significant advantages in terms of detection accuracy, generalisation capability, and detection speed and can effectively realise more accurate detection in SAR images, consistently exhibiting superior performance and application value in SAR ship detection.

LENet: Lightweight and Effective Detector for Aerial Object

Aerial object detection is crucial in various computer vision tasks, including video monitoring, early warning systems, and visual tracking. While current methods can accurately detect normal-sized objects, they face challenges distinguishing small objects from cluttered backgrounds. Developing methods that can be deployed on edge devices to achieve fast, accurate, and energy-efficient performance is also an urgent challenge. This paper proposes a network for aerial object detection by incorporating an attention mechanism to enhance feature extraction and elevate the accuracy of aerial moving object detection. Additionally, we optimize the channel dimensions of the feature extraction framework, resulting in a reduction in model parameters, acceleration of inference speed, and alleviation of the computational burden. Ulteriorly, we optimize the Spatial Pyramid Pooling (SPP) module to enhance detection accuracy and processing speed. Inspired by the ResNet and RepVGG structures, we design a feature fusion module to combine early-extracted features, improving speed and accuracy. Based on the design mentioned above principles, we develop a neural network method with an impressively small model size of only [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]M. The proposed approach achieves state-of-the-art performance on five benchmark datasets. Besides its superior performance, our method demonstrates excellent throughput on edge computing devices. Experimental results show that even when running on low-performance computing devices, the CPU and GPU temperatures remain below 50∘C and achieve a detection speed of 14.8 frames per second (fps) and power consumption of only 2.9[Formula: see text]W. These findings suggest that a high-accuracy, low-power, low-latency, and low-memory footprint aerial object detection solution is achievable.

Fine-Grained Feature Perception for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Target Detection Algorithm

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) aerial images often present challenges such as small target sizes, high target density, varied shooting angles, and dynamic poses. Existing target detection algorithms exhibit a noticeable performance decline when confronted with UAV aerial images compared to general scenes. This paper proposes an outstanding small target detection algorithm for UAVs, named Fine-Grained Feature Perception YOLOv8s-P2 (FGFP-YOLOv8s-P2), based on YOLOv8s-P2 architecture. We specialize in improving inspection accuracy while meeting real-time inspection requirements. First, we enhance the targets’ pixel information by utilizing slice-assisted training and inference techniques, thereby reducing missed detections. Then, we propose a feature extraction module with deformable convolutions. Decoupling the learning process of offset and modulation scalar enables better adaptation to variations in the size and shape of diverse targets. In addition, we introduce a large kernel spatial pyramid pooling module. By cascading convolutions, we leverage the advantages of large kernels to flexibly adjust the model’s attention to various regions of high-level feature maps, better adapting to complex visual scenes and circumventing the cost drawbacks associated with large kernels. To match the excellent real-time detection performance of the baseline model, we propose an improved Random FasterNet Block. This block introduces randomness during convolution and captures spatial features of non-linear transformation channels, enriching feature representations and enhancing model efficiency. Extensive experiments and comprehensive evaluations on the VisDrone2019 and DOTA-v1.0 datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of FGFP-YOLOv8s-P2. This achievement provides robust technical support for efficient small target detection by UAVs in complex scenarios.

Steel Surface Defect Detection Algorithm Based on ESI-YOLOv8

Abstract To enhance the precision of detecting defects on steel plate surfaces and diminish the incidences of false detection and leakage, the ESI-YOLOv8 algorithm is introduced. The algorithm incorporates an EP module, which minimizes redundant computations and model parameters to optimize efficiency and simultaneously increases the multi-scale fusion mechanism to expand the sensory field. The SPPF-LSKA module is proposed by integrating the large separated convolutional attention module with the spatial pyramid pooling module. This integration reduces computational complexity, accelerates model operation speed, and improves detection accuracy. Additionally, the INNER-CIOU loss function is introduced to improve detection speed and model accuracy by controlling the scale size of the auxiliary border. The results of the experiment indicate that, following the improvements made, the algorithm's detection accuracy has increased to 78%, which is 3.7% higher than the original YOLOv8. Furthermore, the model parameters were reduced, and the verification was conducted using the CoCo dataset, resulting in an average accuracy of 77.8%. In conclusion, the algorithm has demonstrated its ability to perform steel plate surface defect detection with efficiency and accuracy.

基于DeepLabV3的复杂果园环境下樱桃分割与识别

Aiming at the problems of less research on cherry segmentation and identification, with slow recognition speed and low classification accuracy in agricultural products, a method based on DeepLabV3 was proposed to realize the rapid segmentation and identification of cherry in complex orchard environment. Complex environment mainly includes front lighting, back lighting, cloudy and rainy days, single fruit, multi fruit, fruit overlap, and branch and leaf occlusion. This model proposed the Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (ASPP) module to effectively extract multi-scale contextual information, and solved the problem of target segmentation at multiple scales. The obtained data was divided into training, validation and testing sets in 7:1:2 ratios, and the residual network 50 (ResNet50) was selected as backbone of the DeepLabV3. Experimental results show that the algorithm in this paper can segment cherry quickly and accurately, the mean intersection over union (MIoU) was 91.06%, the mean pixel accuracy (MPA) was 93.05%, and the kappa coefficient was 0.89, which was better than fully convolutional networks (FCN), SegNet, DeepLabV1 and DeepLabV2. It is demonstrated that this study can provide technical support for intelligent segmentation of agricultural products.

Research on Human Pose Estimation Model Based on Long-Range Fine-Grained Modeling

To address the issues of lacking long-range spatial position learning ability and excessive loss of fine-grained feature information during spatial feature pooling in human pose estimation models, a novel human pose estimation model based on the Yolopose network is proposed. Firstly, an enhanced coordinate attention module is introduced and embedded into the backbone network to endow the model with long-range spatial position modeling capability. Secondly, a fine-grained cascaded spatial pyramid pooling module is proposed to mitigate the loss of fine-grained feature information caused by spatial feature pooling. Finally, an implicit knowledge learning module is incorporated to reduce the model parameter count and enhance the model's capability for multi-task joint optimization.

U-Net with Coordinate Attention and VGGNet: A Grape Image Segmentation Algorithm Based on Fusion Pyramid Pooling and the Dual-Attention Mechanism

Currently, the classification of grapevine black rot disease relies on assessing the percentage of affected spots in the total area, with a primary focus on accurately segmenting these spots in images. Particularly challenging are cases in which lesion areas are small and boundaries are ill-defined, hampering precise segmentation. In our study, we introduce an enhanced U-Net network tailored for segmenting black rot spots on grape leaves. Leveraging VGG as the U-Net’s backbone, we strategically position the atrous spatial pyramid pooling (ASPP) module at the base of the U-Net to serve as a link between the encoder and decoder. Additionally, channel and spatial dual-attention modules are integrated into the decoder, alongside a feature pyramid network aimed at fusing diverse levels of feature maps to enhance the segmentation of diseased regions. Our model outperforms traditional plant disease semantic segmentation approaches like DeeplabV3+, U-Net, and PSPNet, achieving impressive pixel accuracy (PA) and mean intersection over union (MIoU) scores of 94.33% and 91.09%, respectively. Demonstrating strong performance across various levels of spot segmentation, our method showcases its efficacy in enhancing the segmentation accuracy of black rot spots on grapevines.

Power quality disturbances classification with imbalanced/insufficient samples based on WGAN-GP-SA and DCNN

The accurate identification of power quality disturbance signals (PQDs) is of great importance to ensure the safe and stable operation of power systems. Considering that there are insufficient samples and imbalance samples of power quality disturbance signals in real systems, the hybrid classification method based on WGAN-GP-SA (Wasserstein generative adversarial networks with gradient penalty and Squeeze-and-Excitation block with atrous spatial pyramid pooling module) and DCNN (deep convolutional neural network) is proposed for recognition of PQDs. Firstly, time-frequency features are extracted by combining improved Kalman and continuous wavelet transforms (CWT); secondly, the original training time-frequency maps are expanded by using WGAN-GP-SA, which can learn the distribution of real data and generate similar samples, and PSNR, SSIM, FID and other indexes are introduced for evaluation of generated data; finally, classification experiments are conducted on two data sets using DCNN, and simulation results show that the accuracy is improved by 2.82 % compared with the original data without augmentation. Furthermore, t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding algorithm (t-SNE) is introduced for visually analysing of classification performance of various datasets, and the visualization indicates the superiority of the hybrid classification method.

AM-UNet: Field Ridge Segmentation of Paddy Field Images Based on an Improved MultiResUNet Network

In order to solve the problem of image boundary segmentation caused by the irregularity of paddy fields in southern China, a high-precision segmentation method based on the improved MultiResUNet model for paddy field mapping is proposed, combining the characteristics of paddy field scenes. We introduce the attention gate (AG) mechanism at the end of the encoder–decoder skip connections in the MultiResUNet model to generate the weights and highlight the response of the field ridge area, add an atrous spatial pyramid pooling (ASPP) module after the end of the encoder down-sampling, use an appropriate combination of expansion rates to improve the identification of small-scale edge details, use 1 × 1 convolution to improve the range of the sensory field after bilinear interpolation to increase the segmentation accuracy, and, thus, construct the AM-UNet paddy field ridge segmentation model. The experimental results show that the IoU, precision, and F1 value of the AM-UNet model are 88.74%, 93.45%, and 93.95%, respectively, and that inference time for a single image is 168ms, enabling accurate and real-time segmentation of field ridges in a complex paddy field environment. Thus, the AM-UNet model can provide technical support for the development of vision-based automatic navigation systems for agricultural machines.

Research on lightweight pavement disease detection model based on YOLOv7

Rapid urbanization has made road construction and maintenance imperative, but detecting road diseases has been time-consuming with limited accuracy. To overcome these challenges, we propose an efficient YOLOv7 road disease detection model. Our approach involves integrating MobilieNetV3 as the backbone feature extraction network to reduce the network’s parameters and computational requirements. Additionally, we introduce the BRA attention module into the spatial pyramid pooling module to eliminate redundant information and enhance the network’s feature representation capability. Moreover, we utilize the F-ReLU activation function in the backbone network, expanding the convolutional layers’ receptive field range. To optimize the model’s boundary loss, we employ the Wise-IoU loss function, which places more emphasis on the quality of ordinary samples and enhances the overall performance and generalization ability of the network. Experimental results demonstrate that our improved detection algorithm achieves a higher recall rate and mean average precision (mAP) on the public dataset (RDD) and the NJdata dataset in Nanjing’s urban area. Specifically, compared to YOLOv7, our model increases the recall rate and mAP on RDD by 3.3% and 2.6%, respectively. On the NJdata dataset, our model improves the recall rate and mAP by 1.9% and 1.3%, respectively. Furthermore, our model reduces parameter and computational requirements by 30% and 22.5%, respectively, striking a balance between detection accuracy and speed. In conclusion, our road disease detection model presents an effective solution to address the challenges associated with road disease detection in urban areas. It offers improved accuracy, efficiency, and generalization capabilities compared to existing models.

Enhanced YOLO v3 for precise detection of apparent damage on bridges amidst complex backgrounds

A bridge disease identification approach based on an enhanced YOLO v3 algorithm is suggested to increase the accuracy of apparent disease detection of concrete bridges under complex backgrounds. First, the YOLO v3 network structure is enhanced to better accommodate the dense distribution and large variation of disease scale characteristics, and the detection layer incorporates the squeeze and excitation (SE) networks attention mechanism module and spatial pyramid pooling module to strengthen the semantic feature extraction ability. Secondly, CIoU with better localization ability is selected as the loss function for training. Finally, the K-means algorithm is used for anchor frame clustering on the bridge surface disease defects dataset. 1363 datasets containing exposed reinforcement, spalling, and water erosion damage of bridges are produced, and network training is done after manual labelling and data improvement in order to test the efficacy of the algorithm described in this paper. According to the trial results, the YOLO v3 model has enhanced more than the original model in terms of precision rate, recall rate, Average Precision (AP), and other indicators. Its overall mean Average Precision (mAP) value has also grown by 5.5%. With the RTX2080Ti graphics card, the detection frame rate increases to 84 Frames Per Second, enabling more precise and real-time bridge illness detection.

DSASPP: Depthwise Separable Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling for PCB Surface Defect Detection

Printed circuit board (PCB) defect detection is an important and indispensable part of industrial production. PCB defects, due to the small target and similarity between classes, in the actual production of the detection process are prone to omission and false detection problems. Traditional machine-learning-based detection methods are limited by the actual needs of industrial defect detection and do not show good results. Aiming at the problems related to PCB defect detection, we propose a PCB defect detection algorithm based on DSASPP-YOLOv5 and conduct related experiments on the PKU-Market-PCB dataset. DSASPP-YOLOv5 is an improved single-stage detection model, and we first used the K-means++ algorithm for the PKU-Market-PCB dataset to recluster the model so that the model is more in line with the characteristics of PCB small target defects. Second, we design the Depthwise Separable Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (DSASPP) module, which effectively improves the correlation between local and global information by constructing atrous convolution branches with different dilated rates and a global average pooling branch. The experimental results show that our model achieves satisfactory results in both the mean average precision and detection speed metrics compared to existing models, proving the effectiveness of the proposed method.

A Lightweight Vehicle Detection Method Fusing GSConv and Coordinate Attention Mechanism.

Aiming at the problems of target detection models in traffic scenarios including a large number of parameters, heavy computational burden, and high application cost, this paper introduces an enhanced lightweight real-time detection algorithm, which exhibits higher detection speed and accuracy for vehicle detection. This paper considers the YOLOv7 algorithm as the benchmark model, designs a lightweight backbone network, and uses the MobileNetV3 lightweight network to extract target features. Inspired by the structure of SPPF, the spatial pyramid pooling module is reconfigured by incorporating GSConv, and a lightweight SPPFCSPC-GS module is designed, aiming to minimize the quantity of model parameters and enhance the training speed even further. Furthermore, the CA mechanism is integrated to enhance the feature extraction capability of the model. Finally, the MPDIoU loss function is utilized to optimize the model's training process. Experiments showcase that the refined YOLOv7 algorithm can achieve 98.2% mAP on the BIT-Vehicle dataset with 52.8% fewer model parameters than the original model and a 35.2% improvement in FPS. The enhanced model adeptly strikes a finer equilibrium between velocity and precision, providing favorable conditions for embedding the model into mobile devices.

Prediction of Sea Surface Temperature Using U-Net Based Model

Sea surface temperature (SST) is a key parameter in ocean hydrology. Currently, existing SST prediction methods fail to fully utilize the potential spatial correlation between variables. To address this challenge, we propose a spatiotenporal UNet (ST-UNet) model based on the UNet model. In particular, in the encoding phase of ST-UNet, we use parallel convolution with different kernel sizes to efficiently extract spatial features, and use ConvLSTM to capture temporal features based on the utilization of spatial features. Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (ASPP) module is placed at the bottleneck of the network to further incorporate the multi-scale features, allowing the spatial features to be fully utilized. The final prediction is then generated in the decoding stage using parallel convolution with different kernel sizes similar to the encoding stage. We conducted a series of experiments on the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea SST data set, as well as the South China Sea SST data set, using SST data from the past 35 days to predict SST data for 1, 3, and 7 days in the future. The model was trained using data spanning from 2010 to 2021, with data from 2022 being utilized to assess the model’s predictive performance. The experimental results show that the model proposed in this research paper achieves excellent results at different prediction scales in both sea areas, and the model consistently outperforms other methods. Specifically, in the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea sea areas, when the prediction scales are 1, 3, and 7 days, the MAE of ST-UNet outperforms the best results of the other three compared models by 17%, 12%, and 2%, and the MSE by 16%, 18%, and 9%, respectively. In the South China Sea, when the prediction ranges are 1, 3, and 7 days, the MAE of ST-UNet is 27%, 18%, and 3% higher than the best of the other three compared models, and the MSE is 46%, 39%, and 16% higher, respectively. Our results highlight the effectiveness of the ST-UNet model in capturing spatial correlations and accurately predicting SST. The proposed model is expected to improve marine hydrographic studies.

Automatic Liver Segmentation from Multiphase CT Using Modified SegNet and ASPP Module

Liver cancer is one of the dominant causes of cancer death worldwide. Computed Tomography (CT) is the commonly used imaging modality for diagnosing it. Computer-based liver cancer diagnosis systems can assist radiologists in image interpretation and improve diagnosis speed and accuracy. Since liver segmentation is crucial to such systems, researchers are relentlessly pursuing various segmentation approaches. A clinically viable computer-aided system requires examining multiphase CT images. However, most of the research focuses only on the portal venous phase. In this work, we developed an automatic and efficient Deep Learning (DL) method using SegNet, atrous spatial pyramid pooling module and leaky ReLU layers for liver segmentation from quadriphasic abdominal CT volumes. The proposed method was validated on two datasets, an internal institutional dataset consisting of multiphase CT and a public dataset of portal venous phase CT volumes. The Dice Coefficients (DC) obtained were greater than 96% for the latter dataset and the portal venous phase of the former. For arterial, delayed and plain CT phases of the former dataset, the DC achieved were 94.61%, 95.01% and 93.23%, respectively. Experiments showed that our model performed better than the other state-of-the-art DL models. Ablation studies have revealed that the proposed model leverages the strengths of all the three components that make it up. The promising performance of the proposed method suggests that it is appropriate for incorporation in hepatic cancer diagnosis systems.

Improving the maize crop row navigation line recognition method of YOLOX.

The accurate identification of maize crop row navigation lines is crucial for the navigation of intelligent weeding machinery, yet it faces significant challenges due to lighting variations and complex environments. This study proposes an optimized version of the YOLOX-Tiny single-stage detection network model for accurately identifying maize crop row navigation lines. It incorporates adaptive illumination adjustment and multi-scale prediction to enhance dense target detection. Visual attention mechanisms, including Efficient Channel Attention and Cooperative Attention modules, are introduced to better extract maize features. A Fast Spatial Pyramid Pooling module is incorporated to improve target localization accuracy. The Coordinate Intersection over Union loss function is used to further enhance detection accuracy. Experimental results demonstrate that the improved YOLOX-Tiny model achieves an average precision of 92.2 %, with a detection time of 15.6 milliseconds. This represents a 16.4 % improvement over the original model while maintaining high accuracy. The proposed model has a reduced size of 18.6 MB, representing a 7.1 % reduction. It also incorporates the least squares method for accurately fitting crop rows. The model showcases efficiency in processing large amounts of data, achieving a comprehensive fitting time of 42 milliseconds and an average angular error of 0.59°. The improved YOLOX-Tiny model offers substantial support for the navigation of intelligent weeding machinery in practical applications, contributing to increased agricultural productivity and reduced usage of chemical herbicides.
