Spatial and Temporal Distribution Characteristics and Cytotoxicity of Atmospheric PM2.5 in the Main Urban Area of Lanzhou City.

PM2.5, as one of the most harmful pollutant in the atmospheric environment and population health, has received much attention. We monitored PM2.5 levels at five sampling sites in the Lanzhou City and collected PM2.5 particles from two representative sites for cytotoxicity experiment. The cytotoxicity of PM2.5 samples on A549 cells and migration ability of the cells were respectively detected by Cell Counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay and scratch assay. We detected the levels of cellular inflammatory factors and oxidative damage-related biochemical indexes. RT-qPCR was used to detect the mRNA levels of NF-κB and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related genes. We found that the Lanlian Hotel station had the highest PM2.5 annual average concentration. The annual average concentration change curve of PM2.5 showed a roughly "U"-shaped distribution during the whole sampling period. The cytotoxicity experiment showed the viability of A549 cells decreased and the scratch healing rate increased in the 200 and 400μg/mL PM2.5-treated groups. We also found 400μg/mL PM2.5 induced changes in the mRNA levels of NF-κB and EMT-related genes, the mRNA levels of IKK-α, NIK, and NF-κB in the 400μg/mL PM2.5 group were higher than those in the control group. The mRNA levels of E-cadherin decreased and α-SMA increased in the 400μg/mL PM2.5 groups, and the mRNA levels of Fibronectin increased in the 400μg/mL PM2.5 groups. Moreover, we found hydroxyl radical scavenging ability and T-AOC levels were lower, and LPO levels were higher in the 200 and 400μg/mL PM2.5 groups, and the SOD activity of cells in the 400µg/mL PM2.5 group decreased. And compared with the control group, the levels of TNF-α were higher in the 200 and 400μg/mL PM2.5 groups and the levels of IL-1 were higher in the 400μg/mL PM2.5 group. The results indicated that the cytotoxicity of atmospheric PM2.5 was related to oxidative damage, inflammatory response, NF-κB activity and EMT.

Vegetation’s Dynamic Changes, Spatial Trends, and Responses to Drought in the Yellow River Basin, China

Drought is a complex and recurrent natural disaster that can have devastating impacts on economies, societies, and ecosystems around the world. In light of climate change, the frequency, duration, and severity of drought events worldwide have increased, and extreme drought events have caused more severe and irreversible damage to terrestrial ecosystems. Therefore, estimating the resilience of different vegetation to drought events and vegetation’s response to damage is crucial to ensuring ecological security and guiding ecological restoration. Based on meteorological and remote-sensing datasets from 1982 to 2022, the spatial distribution characteristics and temporal variability of vegetation were identified in the Yellow River Basin (YRB), the dynamic changes and recurrence periods of typical drought events were clarified, and the driving effects of different drought types on vegetation were revealed. The results indicated that (1) during the research period, the standardized vegetation water-deficit index (SVWI) showed a downward trend in the YRB, with a 99.52% probability of abrupt seasonal changes in the SVWI occurring in January 2003; (2) the characteristic values of the grid trend Zs were −1.46 and 0.20 in winter and summer, respectively, indicating a significant downward trend in the winter SVWI; (3) the drought with the highest severity (6.48) occurred from September 1998 to February 1999, with a recurrence period of 8.54 years; and (4) the growth of vegetation was closely related to drought, and as the duration of drought increased, the sensitivity of vegetation to drought events gradually weakened. The research results provide a new perspective for identifying vegetation’s dynamic changes and responses to drought, which is of great significance in revealing the adaptability and potential influencing factors of vegetation in relation to climate.

Research on coupling coordination between construction industry innovation and region economic development in China.

In numerous developing nations, challenges such as insufficient investment in innovation and limited capabilities for conversion impede the growth of the construction sector, thus affecting the overall economic well-being of these regions. This paper focuses on construction industry innovation (CII) and its correlation with region economic development (RED), providing valuable insights to overcome these challenges and promote sustainable economic advancement. This study references existing literature to devise an evaluation indicator system dedicated for CII and RED. It then proceeds with an empirical analysis of the integration and synergy between CII and the economic development across 31 Chinese provinces from 2012 to 2021. Furthermore, this paper employs ArcGIS and Geoda software to meticulously dissect the spatial distribution characteristics underlying this coordination. The main conclusions are succinctly summarized as follows: CII in China is intricately connected to RED, exhibiting a strong connection that diminishes from south to north. Nonetheless, the coordination level between these factors remains relatively low, with notable regional disparities, particularly from southeast to northwest. The primary obstacles to effective coordination are related to innovation input, output, and economic scale. Additionally, spatial correlation analysis demonstrates pronounced regional clustering, showing stability despite slight fluctuations over the study period. This research underscores the concept of coupling coordination between CII and RED, underpinned by scientific analytical methods. The outcomes provide a definitive guide for advancing the transformation and enhancement of the construction industry while promoting RED.

Study on Rural Classification and Resilience Evaluation Based on PSR Model: A Case Study of Lvshunkou District, Dalian City, China

When implementing a rural revitalization strategy, it is of great significance to understand how to identify potential risks in different types of villages and how to achieve resilience governance. In this paper, a rural classification evaluation method is proposed from the perspective of resilience. The stress–state–response model and the TOPSIS method were used to analyze the resilience risks in different types of villages in Lvshunkou District. The results showed that the comprehensive resilience of rural areas in Lvshunkou District has the spatial distribution characteristics of “high center and low wings”, and the spatial differences of each resilience subsystem are different: the pressure resilience subsystem shows a trend of “increasing step by step” from the coast to the inland, the state resilience subsystem shows a trend of “decreasing step by step from the center to the two wings”, and the response resilience subsystem shows a trend of “blocky aggregation and balanced distribution”. This paper further proposes systematic reconstruction strategies for rural resilience related to the four aspects of rural space, industry, ecology, and governance, providing development ideas for measuring rural resilience indicators in Lvshunkou District and realizing long-term governance in different types of villages.

The Spatiotemporal Matching Relationship between Metro Networks and Urban Population from an Evolutionary Perspective: Passive Adaptation or Active Guidance?

With the operation of the first route in Xi’an City, the matching relationship between the metro networks and the urban population is a root factor affecting the utilization of rail transit facilities. The mismatch between the metro networks and the urban population has led to an imbalance between the supply and demand for rail transport, resulting in wasted urban infrastructure. Based on this issue, the research objective is to focus on the spatiotemporal variations of the matching relationship. Firstly, the topological network model abstractly extracted metro spatial distribution features, and the spatial autocorrelation model was adopted to identify the evolution characteristics of the metro networks and urban population. Secondly, this paper adopted a time-lagged regression model to demonstrate the action relationship from 2011 to 2021. Then, the compositive coordination index was utilized to assess the variation of the global matching relationship. Finally, the paper explored spatial heterogeneity through the coupling coherence degree attached to grid cells. The research results indicate that the Moran’s I value of metro elements decreased from 0.782 to 0.510 with the further complexity of topological networks, while the population was consistently high in spatial dependence with a Moran’s I value of around 0.75 during the decade. Based on the regression coefficients and significance, this paper verified the hypothesis that the metro networks and urban population had a positive time-lagged feedback effect in urban development. From 2011 to 2021, the compositive coordination index symbolizing the global matching relationship increased from 0.29 to 0.90, but the coupling coherence degree shows significant spatial heterogeneity in different grid units. Differentiated spatial planning strategies were proposed for varied areas to efficiently utilize rail transit, which may provide a reference for other cities with the same reality problem.

Classified Spatial Clustering and Influencing Factors of New Retail Stores: A Case Study of Freshippo in Shanghai

The diversified innovative strategies adopted by the new retail format in urban spaces have significantly driven retail transformation and innovation. The combination of online platforms and physical stores provides a substantial advantage in market competition. This paper takes “Freshippo”, a typical representative of China’s new retail, as an example. Based on multi-source data and using tools such as GIS spatial analysis, statistical analysis, and geographical detectors, this study comprehensively examines the spatial clustering characteristics and influencing factors of Freshippo physical stores in Shanghai. The findings show that Freshippo has significantly expanded in the Shanghai fresh food market by innovatively opening various types of stores. However, there are substantial differences in the proportions of different types of stores, with 94% of the stores having online retail capabilities. Each offline store in the new retail format presents a multi-level “complementary” spatial distribution feature across the urban space, with distinctive clusters in the urban central districts, urban periphery areas, and outer suburban districts. The radiation range of logistics and distribution services exhibits characteristics of “central agglomeration and multi-point distribution”, providing residents with diverse and accurate services. Additionally, the comparison of multiple model results shows that the location selection of various types of new retail stores is significantly influenced by multiple factors, especially the nonlinear amplification effect of factor interactions on store agglomeration. These findings provide an important scientific reference for understanding the development of new retail formats and offer new ideas that promote the transformation and innovation of the retail industry, thereby achieving sustainable development.

Balancing Submarine Landslides and the Marine Economy for Sustainable Development: A Review and Future Prospects

To proactively respond to the national fourteenth Five-Year Plan policy, we will adhere to a comprehensive land and sea planning approach, working together to promote marine ecological protection, optimize geological space, and integrate the marine economy. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the sustainable development of marine geological hazards (MGHs), with a particular focus on submarine landslides, the marine environment, as well as the marine economy. First, the novelty of this study lies in its review and summary of the temporal and spatial distribution, systematic classification, inducible factors, and realistic characteristics of submarine landslides to enrich the theoretical concept. Moreover, the costs, risks, and impacts on the marine environment and economy of submarine engineering activities such as oil and gas fields, as well as metal ores, were systematically discussed. Combined with the current marine policy, an analysis was conducted on the environmental pollution and economic losses caused by submarine landslides. Herein, the key finding is that China and Mexico are viable candidates for the future large-scale offshore exploitation of oil, gas, nickel, cobalt, cuprum, manganese, and other mineral resources. Compared to land-based mining, deep-sea mining offers superior economic and environmental advantages. Finally, it is suggested that physical model tests and numerical simulation techniques are effective means for investigating the triggering mechanism of submarine landslides, their evolutionary movement process, and the impact on the submarine infrastructure. In the future, the establishment of a multi-level and multi-dimensional monitoring chain for submarine landslide disasters, as well as joint risk assessment, prediction, and early warning systems, can effectively mitigate the occurrence of submarine landslide disasters and promote the sustainable development of the marine environment and economy.

Evaluation of the Spatial Pattern of Fitness and Leisure Venues at the City Scale

Reasonable layout of fitness and leisure places is an important part of the implementation of the national fitness strategy. The analysis of the spatial pattern and influence mechanism of fitness and leisure places from the perspective of city has certain guiding significance for optimizing urban planning and construction and rationally allocating sports resources. This paper uses kernel density, buffer zone, inverse distance interpolation, Kriging interpolation, geographical detector and other geographical spatial analysis methods to analyze the spatial distribution pattern and distribution causes of five types of fitness and leisure places in counties (cities, districts) under the jurisdiction of Jinhua City. It is found that the overall spatial distribution characteristics of fitness and leisure places in Jinhua City are ' core-periphery ', and different forms of fitness and leisure places show different distribution characteristics. The spatial pattern of fitness and leisure places in Jinhua City has the characteristics of relying on traffic arteries and high-density population areas, and has a positive correlation with the spatial layout of housing prices. Jinhua fitness and leisure places generally have good traffic accessibility.

Effects of local bed layer characteristics on separation of low rank oil shale in a dry cascade beneficiation bed

Oil shale is considered a highly significant substitute energy source for the 21st century due to its abundant resources and feasibility for development and utilization. This paper utilizes a dry cascade beneficiation bed to upgrade 25–0 mm oil shale, focusing on the spatial distribution characteristics of local bed layer density and differential density particle spatial distribution rules. The study identifies the formation area of autogenous medium fluidization and systematically analyzes the force characteristics and spatial migration laws of particles in local bed layers. Factors influencing the mixing and separation of oil shale particles are investigated, and stages of the separation process are determined. Experimental results indicate that in area I, the density distribution range of autogenous medium bed layers is 2.21–2.25 g/cm3, representing the formation area of autogenous medium fluidization, predominantly with low-density oil shale particles at ρ = 1.95 g/cm3, ranging from 2.28 % to 4.37 % across particle size grades. Area II predominantly contains intermediate density particles at ρ = 2.20 g/cm3, with upper and lower layer contents of 10.9–11.6 % and 4.7–5.7 %, respectively; the upper bed layer is dominated by 13–25 mm particles, while the lower bed layer by 0–6 mm and 6–13 mm particles. Area III features high-density particles at ρ = 2.40 g/cm3, with upper and lower layer contents of 6.13–6.40 % and 1.86–2.11 %, respectively, showing particle size distribution consistent with area II. When Γ = 13.60–16.28, area I serves as a domain for low-density material separation, with peak forces of 6.95–7.0 mN; area II as a domain for separation of medium to high-density particles, with peak forces of 4.83–4.87 mN; and area III as a domain for high-density material transport, with peak forces of 2.01–2.03 mN. Particle acceleration along the Z-axis relative to the X-axis increases by 0.688 m/s2, 3.791 m/s2, and 4.670 m/s2 in areas I, II, and III, respectively, and relative to the Y-axis by 0.554 m/s2, 3.11 m/s2, and 3.396 m/s2. When U=2.36 m/s and Γ = 17.73–22.04, significant differences in distribution of same-density particles between upper and lower bed layers are observed, with differences in content for low-density materials (ρ = −1.8 g/cm3) of 13.23 %, 0.01 %, and 0.01 % in areas I, II, and III, respectively, and for high-density materials (ρ = +2.5 g/cm3) of 1.21 %, 0.91 %, and 2.17 %. By examining particle mixing and separation processes, three operational stages are defined: Area diffusion, stratified transition, and cascade distribution, and separation tests under optimal conditions achieve a concentrate yield of 39.23 % with an oil content of 10.18 %, and a tailings yield of 60.77 % with an oil content of 0.71 %. The probable error (Ep) is 0.08 g/cm3 achieves high-precision upgrading of oil shale.

Occurrence and environmental risks of antibiotics in surface water of China

Antibiotics as emerging pollutants are frequently detected in surface water, raising concerns about the associated risk of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). Despite the widespread apprehension, there are still research gaps in the occurrence of antibiotic pollution in surface water and the associated ecological risks to aquatic organisms in China. Here, we established a dataset of antibiotic pollution in surface water in China during 2018-2022, which encompassed 3 368 concentration values of 128 antibiotics reported in 124 articles. Our analysis showed that antibiotic concentrations were predominantly in the ng/L-μg/L range, reaching up to 26 μg/L. Notably, sulfonamides (e.g., sulfamethoxazole) and quinolones (e.g., ciprofloxacin) were frequently reported at high concentrations. The pollution degree of antibiotics represented by sulfamethoxazole, ciprofloxacin, roxithromycin, and tetracycline exhibited no significant variation across different years but was lower in summer than that in spring and autumn. Additionally, distinct spatial distribution characteristics of the pollution were observed. According to calculation results of the aquatic ecological risk assessment model and the weighted frequency, we proposed a list of priority antibiotics including clarithromycin, erythromycin, sulfamethoxazole, ofloxacin, and oxytetracycline in surface water. Last but not least, this study points out the deficiencies in current research on the occurrence and ecological risks of antibiotics in surface water of China and provides viable screening strategies and monitoring recommendations in this context.

Spatial characteristics of carbon dioxide emission intensity of urban road traffic and driving factors: Road network and land use

Road traffic is a major contributor to global carbon dioxide emissions. The impact of urban road networks and land use on these emissions remains controversial. This study proposed carbon dioxide emission intensity (CEI) based on road network length, analyzed the spatial distribution characteristics of CEI of passenger and freight traffic in the Southern Kanto region of Japan through spatial autocorrelation analysis, and examined the driving effects of urban road network and land use characteristics through Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) models. The results showed that the CEI of passenger traffic demonstrated more significant spatial heterogeneity than freight traffic, exhibiting a spatial pattern of high-value clustering in the center and low-value clustering in the peripheral area. Road network characteristics are the primary driving factor for CEI of passenger traffic. A road network with lower density, rich branching streets does not necessarily promote the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. The industrial land proportion exerts a stronger and more extensive driving effect on the CEI of freight traffic than road network characteristics. As a specialized study on carbon dioxide emissions from road traffic, this study provides the decision-making criteria for urban planning strategy and urban management to enhance urban sustainable development.

HnRNPA1 Prevents Endothelial-to-mesenchymal Transition-induced VSMC Activation and Neointimal Hyperplasia in Vein Grafts.

Endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndoMT) is associated with neointimal hyperplasia and vein graft failure, and heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A1 (hnRNPA1) has emerged as a major modulator of EMT. We aimed to investigate the functional consequence of EndoMT in neointimal hyperplasia and the precise role of hnRNPA1 in the regulation of EndoMT and neointimal hyperplasia. We investigated the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of EndoMT cells in a mouse model of vein graft transplantation. In vitro, we studied the interaction between EndoMT cells and VSMCs, and the underlying mechanism was investigated by cytokine antibody assays. In cultured HUVECs, we studied the effect of hnRNPA1 on EndoMT and the cellular interactions by using siRNA-mediated knockdown and adenovirus-mediated overexpression. We further investigated the role of hnRNPA1 in EndoMT and neointimal hyperplasia in vivo with an AAV-mediated EC-specific hnRNPA1 overexpression murine model. We demonstrated the presence of EndoMT cells during the initial stage of neointimal formation, and that EndoMT cells promoted the proliferation and migration of VSMCs in vitro. Mechanistic studies revealed that EndoMT cells express and secrete a higher level of PDGF-B. Furthermore, we found a regulatory role for hnRNPA1 in EndoMT in vitro and in vivo. Similarly, we found that hnRNPA1 overexpression in ECs reduced the expression and secretion of PDGF-B during EndoMT, effectively inhibiting EndoMT cell-mediated activation of VSMCs in vitro and neointimal formation in vivo. Taken together, these findings indicate that EndoMT cells can activate VSMCs through a paracrine mechanism mediated by hnRNPA1 and lead to neointimal hyperplasia.

Simulation and Prediction of Snowmelt Runoff in the Tangwang River Basin Based on the NEX-GDDP-CMIP6 Climate Model

In this study, the future snowmelt runoff in the chilly northeast region’s Tangwang River Basin was simulated and predicted using the SWAT model, which was built and used based on the NEX-GDDP-CMIP6 climate model. This study conducted a detailed analysis of the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of snowmelt runoff using high-resolution DEM, land use, and soil data, along with data from historical and future climatic scenarios. Using box plots and the Bflow digital filtering approach, this study first determined the snowmelt runoff period before precisely defining the snowmelt periods. Sensitivity analysis and parameter rate determination ensured the simulation accuracy of the SWAT model, and the correlation coefficients of the total runoff validation period and rate period were 0.75 and 0.76, with Nashiness coefficients of 0.75 for both. The correlation coefficients of the snowmelt runoff were 0.73 and 0.74, with Nashiness coefficients of 0.7 and 0.68 for both, and the model was in good agreement with the measured data. It was discovered that while temperatures indicate an increasing tendency across all future climate scenarios, precipitation is predicted to increase under the SSP2-4.5 scenario. The SSP2-4.5 scenario predicted a decreasing trend regarding runoff, while the SSP1-2.6 and SSP5-8.5 scenarios showed an increasing trend with little overall change and the SSP5-8.5 scenario even showed a decrease of 6.35%. These differences were evident in the monthly runoff simulation projections. Overall, the findings point to the possibility that, despite future climate change having a negligible effect on the hydrological cycle of the Tangwang River Basin, it may intensify and increase the frequency of extreme weather events, creating difficulties for the management of water resources and the issuing of flood warnings. For the purpose of planning water resources and studying hydrological change in this basin and other basins in cold regions, this study offers a crucial scientific foundation. An in-depth study of snowmelt runoff is of great practical significance for optimizing water resource management, rational planning of water use, spring flood prevention, and disaster mitigation and prevention, and provides valuable data support for future research on snowmelt runoff.

How do glyphosate and AMPA alter the microbial community structure and phosphorus cycle in rice-crayfish systems?

Glyphosate, a commonly used organophosphorus herbicide in rice-crayfish cropping regions, may alter regional phosphorus cycle processes while affecting the structure of microbial communities. However, the effects of glyphosate residues on rice-crayfish systems remain unclear. In this study, we assessed the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of glyphosate and its primary degradation products, as well as the impact mechanisms of glyphosate on microbial communities and the phosphorus cycle in rice-crayfish systems such as paddy fields, breeding ditches and recharge rivers. The detection rates of glyphosate and aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) were 100% in rice-crayfish systems. Concentrations of glyphosate in the water phase and soil/sediment were as high as 0.012 μg/L and 7.480 μg/kg, respectively, and concentrations of AMPA were as high as 17.435 μg/L and 13.200 μg/kg, respectively. Glyphosate concentrations were not affected by rainfall or sampling site, but concentrations of AMPA in the water phase of recharge rivers were affected by rainfall. The glyphosate concentration was significantly and positively correlated with RBG-16-58-14 abundance, and the AMPA concentration was significantly and positively correlated with Actinobacteria and Lysobacter abundance, and negatively correlated with Cyanobacteria abundance (P < 0.05). The highest abundances of phoD, phnK, and ppx genes were found in all soils/sediments. Glyphosate concentration in soil/sediment was significantly and positively correlated with the abundance of phoD gene encoding an organophosphorus-degrading enzyme and ppx gene encoding poly inorganic phosphate (Pi) hydrolase (P < 0.05). In addition, the glyphosate concentration was significantly and positively correlated with the Ca-bonded Pi content (P < 0.05). This implies that glyphosate may promote the production of stable Pi in rice-crayfish systems by increasing the abundance of phoD and ppx genes. The results of this study reveal the impact mechanism of glyphosate on the phosphorus cycle in rice-crayfish systems and provide a basis for the risk assessment of glyphosate.

Urban Fire Risk Dynamics and Mitigation Strategies in Shanghai: Integrating Spatial Analysis and Game Theory

In recent decades, the increasing frequency of urban fires, driven by urban functional enhancements and climate change, has posed a growing threat to metropolitan sustainability. This study investigates the temporal and spatial characteristics of fire incidents in Shanghai from 2019 to 2023. Using satellite fire point data and official government records, kernel density analysis and wavelet analysis were employed to analyze the time series and spatial distribution of fire data. Subsequently, eleven primary factors influencing urban fire occurrence were identified, encompassing probability, regional characteristics, and hazard sources. A combined methodology of subjective and objective weights with game theory was used to generate a fire risk assessment at a 1 × 1 km2 grid scale. Furthermore, the spatial distribution characteristics of the assessments were analyzed. The results reveal that the downtown area exhibits the highest intensity of urban fires in terms of spatial domain, with a decreasing intensity towards the suburbs. Temporally, fire frequency demonstrates significant periodicity at an 18a time scale, while clear seasonal fluctuations and periodicity are observed at a 16-22a time scale, with higher occurrences in spring and winter. The study identifies typical aggregation patterns of urban fires, with high-risk centers in downtown Shanghai. Considering the impact of climate change and human activities, high-risk areas may gradually expand to adjacent urban suburbs, presenting a concerning future scenario. By examining the dual attributes of “combustibles and fireproof space” within urban greening systems, this research offers recommendations for the future strategies of disaster prevention and mitigation of green systems in Shanghai.

Spatial and temporal distribution characteristics research of esophageal cancer in China

Objectives: To explore the spatial distribution characteristics, trend changes, and spatial clustering of esophageal cancer among residents in China at the county (city, district) scale, a spatial epidemiological approach was used, with the aim of providing localized evidence for the prevention and treatment of esophageal cancer in China. Methods: The data source was the incidence (crude rate) and mortality (crude rate) of esophageal cancer from 2005 to 2016 in the 2008-2019 edition of China Cancer Registration Annual Report published by the National Cancer Center. The Joinpoint model was used for time trend analysis. The tumor registration area in 2016 was selected as the study area for spatial feature analysis, with a total of 487 counties (cities and districts), covering 27.6% of the national population. Spatial autocorrelation analysis was performed to reveal spatial distribution characteristics by using Arcgis 10.6 software, and spatial scanning statistics was used to analyze spatial clustering characteristics by using SaTScan 9.5 software. The log-likelihood ratio (LLR) and relative risk (RR) were calculated in different windows, and the region with the largest LLR value represented the most likely cluster. Results: From 2005 to 2016, the incidence and mortality rate of esophageal cancer in China showed a trend of increasing at first and then decreasing. The incidence and mortality rate of esophageal cancer in 2016 were characterized by spatial positive correlation. High incidence and high mortality were mainly concentrated in the areas through which the Huaihe River flowed. The primary clusters (taking high incidence rate as an example LLR=6 374.41, RR=2.37, P＜0.001) were mainly distributed in Jiangsu, Anhui and Shandong in eastern China and eastern Henan and southern Hebei in central China, and secondary clusters (taking high incidence rate as an example LLR=1 971.19, RR=1.91, P＜0.001) in Gansu, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Shaanxi, Sichuan and other central and western regions. Conclusions: The incidence and mortality of esophageal cancer in China have decreased since 2010. The disease burden of esophageal cancer has obvious spatial differences, and measures should be taken according to local conditions in high-risk cluster areas such as the Huaihe River basin.

Research on pollution identification and safety thresholds based on the olfactory effect on a halogenated hydrocarbon contaminated site

To effectively address odor control issues at sites contaminated with halogenated hydrocarbons, it is essential to establish an odor risk prediction system for evaluating potential risks that may impact future planning. This research focuses on a representative halogenated hydrocarbon-contaminated site, examining the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of key pollutants in soil gas. By analyzing odor contribution rates, the study identifies significant odorants in soil gas, which enables the derivation of both probabilistic and deterministic safety thresholds for soil and groundwater based on olfactory effects. The findings indicate that 1,1-dichloroethylene, vinyl chloride, chloroform, and 1,1-dichloroethane are prevalent throughout the contaminated site, displaying elevated concentration levels and substantially influencing the overall contamination extent. These substances are highlighted as critical pollutants requiring attention. Correlation analysis (P < 0.05) reveals a strong relationship between the concentrations of vinyl chloride, 1,1-dichloroethane, and chloroform with groundwater depth and air temperature. Additionally, the analysis of odor activity values (OAV) identified 1,1-dichloroethene, 1,4-dichlorobenzene, chlorobenzene, chloroform, and vinyl chloride as key olfactory factors at the site. The corresponding probabilistic safety thresholds are 0.68, 1.65, 0.50, 7.87, and 3.72 mg kg−1 for soil, and 9.29, 3.46, and 1.09, 69.55, and 47.01 mg L−1 for groundwater, respectively. Among them, the odor risks of chlorobenzene and 1,1-dichloroethylene warrant more attention than soil contamination risks; regarding 1,4-dichlorobenzene, it is recommended to concurrently consider odor risks during human health risk assessment; as for vinyl chloride and chloroform, their odor risks can be largely eliminated based on human health-oriented pollution management.

Assessment of Rural Industry Integration Development, Spatiotemporal Evolution Characteristics, and Regional Disparities in Ethnic Regions: A Case Study of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Counties

Ethnic regions in China primarily focus on the development of agricultural and animal husbandry economies, which are relatively underdeveloped. Rural industry integration development (RIID) is considered the foundation and guarantee for ethnic regions to achieve high-quality modernization of agriculture. The purpose of this article is to measure the level of rural industrial integration in ethnic minority areas, analyze the spatial evolution and regional differences, and explore the actual situation of RIID in these regions. The aim is to provide a decision-making basis for local governments to effectively promote the development of rural industrial integration. Based on the improvement of the evaluation index system for rural industrial integration development, this paper takes the counties of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region as the research area. Utilizing panel data from the statistical yearbooks of 68 banners and counties in Inner Mongolia from 2011 to 2020, the panel entropy weight TOPSIS method is employed to assess the average level of rural industrial integration in the research area. The ArcGIS natural breakpoint method is employed to classify the level of RIID in county areas. Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA) and GeoDa are utilized to analyze the spatial distribution characteristics of RIID. Finally, the Theil index is employed to analyze the regional differences in the level of RIID. The results show the following: (1) The overall level of RIID in ethnic regions is relatively low, with the contributions of the four dimensions in the evaluation index system as follows: integration path &gt; integration foundation &gt; integration sustainability &gt; integration effect. The level of RIID in the study area is as follows: western region &gt; eastern region &gt; central region. (2) Spatially, there are positive correlations and significant spatial clustering in the level of RIID, with the spatial clustering effect of RIID weakening. (3) There are regional differences in the level of RIID, which are expanding. The inter-regional differences are decreasing, while the intra-regional differences are increasing. (4) The construction of agricultural processing facilities, financial investment, financial support, and talent policies are important influencing factors for the current stage of RIID in ethnic regions. Therefore, in the low-level development stage of RIID in ethnic regions, it is necessary to fully utilize the advantages of resource endowment, increase investment in rural infrastructure, and strengthen the guidance of talent flow into rural revitalization construction.

Horizontal and Vertical Spatial Equity Analysis Based on Accessibility to Living Service Amenities: A Case Study of Xi’an, China

Accessibility is closely related to residents’ well-being and quality of life and is a potential indicator of social equity. This study aims to present a methodology for assessing the combined equity of living service amenities (LSAs) based on accessibility. This study focuses on fourteen types of LSAs in six dimensions and improves the three-step floating catchment area (3SFCA) model by considering the behavioral demand characteristics of different age groups. Taking the main built-up area of Xi’an as an example, the modified 3SFCA model is applied to assess the accessibility of LSAs, and the supply–demand index is used to measure the supply and demand level of the horizontal dimension. Furthermore, random forest regression was used to screen the key socioeconomic indicators affecting the accessibility of LSAs, and then the binary spatial correlation local index was used to reveal the spatial distribution characteristics between LSA accessibility and key socioeconomic indicators in the vertical dimension. Finally, the comprehensive equity of LSAs is evaluated by space superposition. The results showed that there was a serious imbalance between the supply and demand of LSAs in Xi’an’s main built-up area, with polarized oversupply and weak supply areas, especially for accessibility to low-grade LSAs. Accessibility is relatively low for children and young and middle-aged groups, and intergenerational inequalities were particularly pronounced among them. The lower-income group was generally at a disadvantage in accessing the high-demand amenities, and those who resided in affordable housing in the periphery of the city were more likely to face social exclusion. This study emphasizes the importance of distributing urban resources equitably among different social groups, which can help decision makers achieve a balance between horizontal equity and vertical equity in the allocation of urban LSAs and promote spatial equity and sustainable social development.
