Analysis of the evolution and influencing factors of ecological environment quality after the transformation of resource-exhausted cities based on GEE and RSEI: a case study of Xuzhou City, China

ABSTRACT This study used Google Earth Engine (GEE) to get and process Landsat images of Xuzhou from 2008 to 2020, and built remote sensing ecological indices (RSEI). This study analyzed the spatiotemporal features and drivers of ecological environment quality after Xuzhou’s transformation using landscape pattern index, spatial autocorrelation, and geographic detector methods. The results showed that: (1) The ecological environment quality of Xuzhou improved steadily but unevenly from 2008 to 2020; the west and central urban areas had poor but improving quality, while the east had the opposite trend; (2) The landscape pattern indices of ecological environment quality in different regions of Xuzhou did not change consistently from 2008 to 2020; (3) The spatial distribution of ecological environment quality had significant autocorrelation, with high-high clusters in the east and low-low clusters in the center and the urban areas of each district and county; (4) NDVI is the component index that has the greatest impact on the changes in the RSEI. Among the single factors, land use conditions have the strongest influence on ecological environmental quality. After the interaction of dual factors, the explanatory power is stronger than that of any single factor. The research results can support urban planning and design, ecological environment protection, etc. in Xuzhou, and offer insights for monitoring and evaluation of ecological environment quality after the transformation of resource-exhausted cities.

Terrestrial vegetation carbon sink analysis and driving mechanism identification in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

The estimation of terrestrial carbon sinks in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) still faces significant uncertainties, and the spatiotemporal dynamics of terrestrial carbon sinks along altitudinal gradients remain unexplored. Moreover, the driving mechanisms of terrestrial carbon sinks at the watershed scale in the QTP continue to be lacking. To address these research gaps, based on multi-source remote sensing data and meteorological data, this study calculated the Net Ecosystem Productivity (NEP) in the QTP from 2000 to 2020 using the Modis NPP-soil respiration model. Through the coefficient of variation (CV), the Mann-Kendall test (MK), and the spatial autocorrelation methods, the spatial distribution pattern and spatiotemporal trends of NEP were investigated. Employing a pixel accumulation method, the variation of NEP along altitudinal gradients was explored. Grey relation analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, and Geographical detector (GD) were used to investigate the driving mechanisms of NEP at the watershed scale. Results showed that: (1) the terrestrial ecosystem in the QTP served as a carbon sink, which produced a total of 2.04 Pg C from 2000 to 2020, and the multi-year average of total carbon sinks was 96.92 Tg C; (2) the spatial distribution of NEP shows a decreasing change from southeast to northwest, and the clustering characteristic of NEP is significant at the watershed scale; (3) the elevation of 4507 m we proposed is likely to be a key threshold for biophysical processes of the terrestrial ecosystems in the QTP; (4) the fluctuation and change trend of carbon sources and carbon sinks show significant differences between the East and West; (5) at the watershed scale, precipitation and temperature play a dominant role in the variation of NEP, while the impact of human activities on NEP variation is weak. Our study aims to address the existing knowledge gaps and provide valuable insights into the management of terrestrial carbon sinks in QTP.

Fine Shear-Wave Velocity Structures of Subsurface beneath the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area with Dense Seismic Array and SPAC Method

Abstract We apply the spatial autocorrelation (SPAC) method to construct the 3D subsurface shear-wave velocity structure model using the short-period dense seismic array (containing 725 nodal geophones) located at the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay area (GBA). We first divided the dense array into numerous subarrays, with each subarray consisting of nine nodal geophones, and obtained 562 subarrays that can provide 1D VS profiles of the same quantity. Then, the SPAC method and genetic algorithm are utilized to extract the dispersion curve of the Rayleigh wave from the raw microtremor data and invert VS structure, respectively. Finally, a 3D VS structure model from the surface to 3.3 km depth is derived by combining all 1D VS structures. Relatively low-velocity anomalies above 700 m are considered unconsolidated shallow sediments as well as relatively high-velocity anomalies beneath 1100 m are attributed to consolidated granite bedrock. Meanwhile, low-velocity anomalies that are identified through the vertical VS profile at a depth of about 900–3000 m can be contributed to the fractured zone, and striped low-velocity anomalies in the horizontal VS maps reveal the location of the deeply buried faults in the study area. The results also mean that the SPAC method combined with the records of short-period dense seismic array can be effectively applied to image subsurface structures in high-populated urban area. The development of this noise-resistance and environment-friendly geophysical technique provides a reliable and effective way to explore the complicated subsurface geological structures, which is of great significance to urban engineering construction and earthquake disaster reduction work in densely populated urban agglomerations.

Exploring the Dynamic Invasion Pattern of the Black-Headed Fall Webworm in China: Susceptibility to Topography, Vegetation, and Human Activities.

The fall webworm (FWW), H. cunea (Drury) (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiidae), is an extremely high-risk globally invasive pest. Understanding the invasion dynamics of invasive pests and identifying the critical factors that promote their spread is essential for devising practical and efficient strategies for their control and management. The invasion dynamics of the FWW and its influencing factors were analyzed using standard deviation ellipse and spatial autocorrelation methods. The analysis was based on statistical data on the occurrence of the FWW in China. The dissemination pattern of the FWW between 1979 and 2022 followed a sequence of "invasion-occurrence-transmission-outbreak", spreading progressively from coastal to inland regions. Furthermore, areas with high nighttime light values, abundant ports, and non-forested areas with low vegetation cover at altitudes below 500 m were more likely to be inhabited by the black-headed FWW. The dynamic invasion pattern and the driving factors associated with the fall webworm (FWW) provide critical insights for future FWW management strategies. These strategies serve not only to regulate the dissemination of insects and diminish migratory tendencies but also to guarantee the implementation of efficient early detection systems and prompt response measures.

Identification of Important Wetlands and Optimization of Landscape Patterns Based on Human Pressure Index: The Case of the Linghekou Wetland in China

The Linghekou wetland is a rich repository of ecological resources and serves as an important habitat for numerous rare and protected animals. However, due to a confluence of natural and anthropogenic factors, the ecological environment of the Linghekou wetland is facing a multitude of threats, including the reduction in wetland area, the degradation of wetland resources, and the instability of ecological structure. This paper employs an anthropogenic focus, utilizing the human pressure index (HPI), spatial autocorrelation, and cold and hot spot methods to identify crucial wetlands. These identified wetlands are then utilized as ecological source sites to optimize the landscape pattern of the Linghekou wetland, employing the minimum cumulative resistance (MCR) model. The final results indicated the identification of 6 ecological sources, 8 ecological corridors, and 42 ecological nodes. These were primarily concentrated in the southern region of the study area and were distributed in a reasonable manner. The method of identifying ecological sources when optimizing the landscape pattern with the MCR model was enriched by this approach. Additionally, the paper offers recommendations for the optimization of the landscape pattern of the Linghekou wetland and establishes a foundation for the protection and restoration of other similar wetlands.

Spatial differentiation and influencing factors of red tourism resources transformation efficiency in China based on RMP-IO analysis

This study employs modified data envelopment analysis (DEA) models and spatial autocorrelation methods to analyze the characteristics of red tourism transformation efficiency and categorize them into efficiency zones. By utilizing geographic detector models, the interactive driving mechanisms behind spatial differentiation are revealed, providing valuable insights for the high-quality transformation and development of China's red tourism economy. The application of modified DEA models facilitates the evaluation of red tourism resource transformation efficiency by decomposing comprehensive efficiency into single-factor efficiency for individual input and output variables. The results indicate that: (1) Expansion of tourism factors is crucial for achieving red tourism resource transformation in China, with low efficiency in resource endowment investment acting as the primary constraint. (2) Local spatial correlation between production efficiency and resource transformation efficiency demonstrates a decreasing trend from east to west, leading to the classification of China’s red tourism resources into five types of efficiency zones. (3) Endogenous ability factors predominantly affect red tourism resource transformation efficiency, with interaction between internal and external factors driving spatial differentiation.

Spatial adequacy of afforestation in Poland: do afforestation needs and environmental preferences matter?

The article concerns the afforestation of agricultural land, especially soils of low quality classes with little suitability for agriculture. The assumption was made that in order to effectively implement afforestation and optimize spatial structures, these lands should be analyzed from the point of view of environmental and spatial conditions (including the quality of the land and its suitability for field crops, cohesion of the forest ecosystem, the presence of naturally valuable areas), according to the potential of a given area. Land that is ineffective in cultivation and does not improve the cohesion of the ecosystem should be treated as preferred for afforestation. The assessment of the spatial adequacy (optimization) of afforestation in the context of afforestation needs and predispositions was carried out for Poland in terms of municipalities using the spatial autocorrelation model and methods. The research results indicate the need to strengthen the effectiveness of solutions that take into account the endogenous potential of municipalities.

How Does the Spatial Structure of Urban Agglomerations Affect the Spatiotemporal Evolution of Population Aging?

China has fully become an aging society, and the scientific response to population aging has become a major task that the country must face in the future. Research on population aging in the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration (CCUA) can provide a scientific basis for future population management in the CCUA. This paper applies spatial autocorrelation, geodetection, and other methods to analyze the temporal and spatial pattern of population aging and its driving factors in the CCUA from 2000 to 2020, taking districts (counties) as the basic unit and combining them with the spatial structure of the urban agglomeration. The results show that: ① in the time dimension, the population aging in CCUA has gone through the evolution process of “mild–moderate–heavy”; in the spatial dimension, the influence of the urban agglomeration’s development planning axes on the spatial differentiation of the aging population has become more and more prominent. ② The aging level has a strong spatial correlation, and with time, the spatial correlation has changed from weak to strong, and the spatial difference has increased. The dual core city shows a typical spatial pattern of a decreasing aging level in the core area and an increasing aging level in the peripheral area, and the heavily aging area is spreading along the axis. ③ The overall aging speed is high, and the aging speeds of the core cities and node cities are lower than those of other regions. There is a clearer positive correlation between the aging level and the speed of aging, showing the characteristic of “the older the faster”. ④ Endogenous factors such as the aging level and fertility level at the beginning of the period have a significant determining power on the change in the aging level, while exogenous factors such as the in-migration rate and the out-migration rate have a persistent determining power on the urban agglomerations and key areas (core cities, central cities, main axes of development, city belts, and dense urban areas).

Landscape Ecological Risk Assessment of Saihanba under the Change in Forest Landscape Pattern

Examining the Saihanba Mechanical Forest Farm, this study utilized Landsat remote sensing data from 1987, 1997, 2001, 2013, and 2020 to interpret land use from the Support Vector Machine (SVM) method, and to decipher evolving land use patterns over the last four decades. Grounded in landscape ecology theory, an innovative evaluation index for landscape ecological risk was introduced, leading to the delineation of 382 ecological risk evaluation units. Employing landscape pattern indices and a method of spatial autocorrelation, we analyzed the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics and spatial correlation patterns of landscape ecological risk across five distinct periods. Geostatistical approaches were used to explore the driving factors of landscape risk. The results indicate that since 1987, there have been significant changes in land use types, especially in forest landscapes, their proportion increasing from 23.19% to 74.55%. In 1987, the proportion of high-risk areas was 72.30%, but in 2020, high-risk areas had significantly decreased and clustered in specific locations. The landscape ecological risks in each period of the study area showed a positive spatial correlation and tended to gather in space. After comprehensive exploration using a geographic detector, we found that landscape type, temperature, and vegetation coverage are the main risk factors. Among them, landscape type has the greatest impact on the landscape and works together with slope, aspect, and precipitation. In forest farm management, only the adaptation and adjustment of single factors are often paid attention to, while the compound effects of multiple factors are ignored. The results of this study bring important reference value to the operation and development of forest farms.

Revealing the Spatial Interactions and Driving Factors of Ecosystem Services: Enlightenments under Vegetation Restoration

Large-scale vegetation restoration has caused complex changes in ecosystem service (i.e., ES) interactions. However, current analysis on the spatial interactions of ESs and their driving mechanisms remains deficient, limiting the adaptive management in vegetation restoration areas. This study focused on a representative restoration area (Yan’an) to analyze the relationships among carbon sequestration, water yield, baseflow regulation, and soil conservation from 1990 to 2020. Employing the bivariate boxplot and spatial autocorrelation methods, we identified the overall changes and spatial patterns of ES interactions. The geographically and temporally weighted regression (i.e., GTWR) model was applied to elucidate the driving factors of these spatial ES interactions. The results indicated the following: (1) Over the past three decades, synergies between carbon sequestration and water yield emerged as the joint results of spatial ‘low–low’ interactions and ‘high–high’ interactions between the two ESs, while other ES pairs generally exhibited comparatively weaker synergies, due to their spatial ‘low–high’ interactions in southern semi-humid areas. (2) In the northern semi-arid areas, both fractional vegetation cover (i.e., FVC) and climatic factors consistently exerted negative influences on all ‘low–low’ ES interactions, which caused a reduced area in synergies, while in the southern semi-humid areas, FVC suppressed the ‘low–high’ trade-offs between ESs, indicating the adaptability of grassland restoration efforts. (3) The impact of human activities on ES interactions has increased in the last 10 years, and exhibited positive effects on the ‘low–low’ ES interactions in northern semi-arid areas. However, the expansion of trade-off between soil conservation and carbon sequestration warrants attention. This study offers important insights into understanding the spatial interactions among carbon, water, and soil-related ESs in drylands.

Spatial-Performance Evaluation of Primary Health Care Facilities: Evidence from Xi’an, China

Primary health care (PHC) facilities play a significant role in constructing a “people-oriented city” to promote sustainable urban development. However, existing studies exhibit gaps in the spatial-performance evaluation of PHC facilities at the block scale and in identifying spatial association types between facilities and the population. Therefore, we examined the elderly population, who rely heavily on PHC facilities, and developed a spatial-performance evaluation model for PHC facilities at the block scale using the Ga2SFCA method and the bivariate spatial autocorrelation method. The results revealed an evident concentric pattern and spatial mismatch between the accessibility of facilities and the elderly population. Facilities in the central area were inadequate due to the excessive density of the elderly population, whereas medical services in suburban areas were unsustainable due to poor accessibility. From a spatial-justice perspective, the spatial-performance evaluation at the block scale can identify spatial correlation types and distribution characteristics between PHC facilities and the elderly population.

Possibilities of using econometrical methods in studying of interregional interactions of migration in transportation

Thе article presents a set of methodological approaches to forecasting the spatial heterogeneity of transportation migration flows in Russia. The purpose of the study is to develop a methodological basis for forecasting the migration flows spatial heterogeneity. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the presentation and systematization of methodological approaches specific to studying socio-economic factors affecting migration flows considering spatial heterogeneity in the context of the Russia. The study has potential practical value for developing effective migration policies and strategies of spatial development in the country. The study uses general scientific methods of cognition and system-structural analysis and theoretical research method. In the course of the work, a literature review was conducted and forecasting methods applicable in studying migration flows in the ratio of transport accessibility, which are based on the real data analysis, have been analyzed. The results of the study showed that it is possible to study migration flows by spatial autocorrelation methods, and the main explanation of this process is socio-economic factors. Regression analysis revealed a significant correlation between migration flows and such factors as income level, development of transportation infrastructure, accessibility, education and other factors calculated in absolute units. The Moran index application to the migration flows analysis is a scientifically new method that allows us to study the migration spatial aspects in more depth and to identify their characteristics and interrelationships at a new level. The methods base obtained can be useful for calculations and further informed decision-making aimed at reducing spatial inequalities and stimulating sustainable spatial development.

Retrieval and precise phase-velocity estimation of Rayleigh waves by the spatial autocorrelation method between distributed acoustic sensing and seismometer data

Summary In distributed acoustic sensing (DAS), optical fibre is used as sensors, which enables us to observe strain over tens of kilometres at intervals of several metres. S-wave velocity (Vs) structures of shallow sediments of high resolution have been obtained from surface wave dispersion curves by applying seismic interferometry to DAS data both onshore and offshore. However, it is known that there is a disadvantage to DAS seismic interferometry. In addition to Rayleigh waves, Love waves are also included. Consequently, the accuracy of the estimated phase velocities for Rayleigh waves is reduced due to the contamination of Love waves. To address this shortcoming, we suggest a spatial autocorrelation (SPAC) method between DAS and the vertical component of seismometer data. The SPAC method is equivalent to seismic interferometry and is useful for obtaining phase velocity dispersion curves of surface waves from the cross-correlation functions (CCFs) between the records of two receivers. The CCFs obtained from a combination of DAS and vertical seismometer data should contain only Rayleigh waves because Love waves have no vertical component. CCFs between DAS and vertical seismometer data are therefore expected to give more accurate phase velocities of Rayleigh waves than CCFs with DAS data only. In this study, we first formulated analytical expressions of cross-spectra for DAS and three-component seismometer data because seismic observation is generally carried out using a three-component seismometer. A new SPAC method is presented in the form of analytical expressions. We showed that our formulation only includes Rayleigh and not Love waves in the cross-spectra with DAS and the vertical-component seismometer data. We applied our SPAC method to actual DAS and vertical seismometer data recorded on the seafloor. Then, we compared our new SPAC method for DAS and vertical seismometer data with a conventional SPAC method for only DAS data. The results reveal that our new SPAC method can estimate the phase velocities of Rayleigh waves more accurately than the conventional method. In addition, the analytical formulations of the cross-spectrum between DAS and three-component seismometer data, which we obtained in this study, are expected to be useful for the estimation of accurate three-dimensional structures in the future, although this is not available at the moment due to the lack of an applicable dataset.

Spatiotemporal Differentiation and Its Attribution of the Ecosystem Service Trade-Off/Synergy in the Yellow River Basin

Clarifying the spatio-temporal patterns of ecosystem services trade-off/synergy relationships (ESTSs) and their attribution in the Yellow River Basin is crucial to constructing ecological civilization in China. This study first analyzed the spatio-temporal change of ecosystem services (ESs) including the water yield, soil conservation, carbon sequestration, and habitat quality in the Yellow River Basin during 2000–2020 based on the InVEST and RUSLE models. Then, the spatial autocorrelation methods were used to quantify the spatio-temporal differentiation of ESTSs, and the Geo-detector method was employed to identify the contributions of driving factors associated with the natural, social-economic, and regional policy aspects of the ESTSs. Finally, the random forest and analysis of variance methods were used to validate the reasonability of major driving factors obtained by the Geo-detector. The main findings include: (1) In 2000–2020, water yield, soil conservation, and habitat quality increased, and carbon sequestration decreased. The ESs had a spatial pattern of high in the east and low in the west. (2) Overall, there were synergistic relationships between the four Ess. In the spatial distribution of ESTSs, the expansion of the synergy zone and trade-off zone occupied the majority. The synergy zones tended to be concentrated in the northwest and southeast of the study area. In contrast, the trade-off zones were more scattered than the synergy zone, mainly focused on the east-central and southwestern parts of the Yellow River Basin. (3) Geo-detector and random forest both showed that natural factors had a strong explanatory power on ESTSs, in which NDVI is a key driver. Both the results of Geo-detector and the analysis of variance showed that the interactions between natural factors exerted the most significant influence on ESTSs, followed by the interaction between natural factors and socio-economic factors.

Connected Community Classification (C3): Development, Validation, and Geospatial Application for Population Health Promotion and Equity.

Social determinants of health (SDOH) impact population health. Leveraging community-level strengths related to SDOH through a social infrastructure perspective can optimize health behaviors and health outcomes to promote health equity. Our aims were to develop, validate, and apply the Connected Community Classification (C3) as comprehensive community-level measure of protective SDOH and structural factors in the Four Corners states region of the United States. C3 was developed using an iterative principal component analysis of publicly available data mapped to 5 SDOH domains. Regional clustering of C3 by zip code tabulation area (ZCTA) was identified using spatial autocorrelation methods. In adjusted spatial autoregressive models, we analyzed the association of C3 with high-risk health behaviors and chronic disease prevalence using publicly available data for population-level estimates of fruit and vegetable intake, physical activity, obesity, smoking, alcohol use, coronary heart disease (CHD), diabetes, and cancer. C3 was found to be reliable and valid; a C3 value of 10 indicates communities with greater connection (high), while a value of 1 indicates communities with greater separation (low) to social infrastructure. Lower connection, as measured by C3, was significantly inversely associated with lower fruit and vegetable intake, lower physical activity, and higher rates of obesity, smoking, CHD, diabetes, and cancer. C3 was significantly positively associated with heavy alcohol use. These findings demonstrate that communities connected to social infrastructure have better population health outcomes. C3 captures protective community attributes and can be used in future applications to assist health researchers, practitioners, nonprofits, and policymakers to advance social connection and health equity in geographically diverse underserved regions.

Microtremor Full-Wavefield Modeling of Effective Phase Velocity and Horizontal-to-Vertical Spectral Ratio at Kyoto Reference Borehole Site: Comparison with Surface-Wavefield Modeling Based on a Velocity Structure with a Cap Layer

ABSTRACT Two types of data commonly used for microtremor exploration are phase-velocity dispersion curves obtained through an array measurement and horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratios (HVSRs) obtainable by a single-station measurement. Phase-velocity dispersion curves obtained by applying the spatial autocorrelation method to the array waveforms have a characteristic peaked shape in some cases. This dispersion curve shape has traditionally been explained as a consequence of the predominance of higher modes over fundamental mode in the Rayleigh waves. In this study, the effects of body waves on phase velocities and HVSRs were investigated based on both field measurements and theoretical calculations of microtremors. We used vertical-component array waveforms and single-station three-component waveforms of microtremors, obtained at and around a site where combined P-wave–S-wave (PS) and density loggings were conducted in the Kyoto basin, Japan (site KD-1), to identify phase velocities and HVSRs at frequencies in the range 0.2–2 Hz. The corresponding theoretical phase velocities and HVSRs were identified using full-wavefield synthetic data, which were generated assuming excitation points randomly distributed over the surface of a horizontally stratified velocity structure model created based on the logging data. The following key results were obtained. The measured phase-velocity dispersion curve exhibits a peaked shape with the value exceeding the S-wave velocity of the Tamba Group (Tb-Group), which is the bedrock (half-space) of the velocity structure model. Theoretical calculations based on the surface-wavefield theory were unable to reproduce this peaked shape; however, theoretical calculations based on the full-wavefield theory reproduced it with extraordinary accuracy. To reproduce the peaked shape based on the surface-wavefield theory, it was necessary to construct a model containing a cap (i.e., high-velocity layer) connected under the Tb-Group. The theoretical calculation based on the full wavefield also accurately reproduced the peak value and peak frequency of the measured HVSRs.

Spatial–temporal distribution patterns and influencing factors analysis of comorbidity prevalence of chronic diseases among middle-aged and elderly people in China: focusing on exposure to ambient fine particulate matter (PM2.5)

ObjectiveThis study describes regional differences and dynamic changes in the prevalence of comorbidities among middle-aged and elderly people with chronic diseases (PCMC) in China from 2011–2018, and explores distribution patterns and the relationship between PM2.5 and PCMC, aiming to provide data support for regional prevention and control measures for chronic disease comorbidities in China.MethodsThis study utilized CHARLS follow-up data for ≥ 45-year-old individuals from 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2018 as research subjects. Missing values were filled using the random forest machine learning method. PCMC spatial clustering investigated using spatial autocorrelation methods. The relationship between macro factors and PCMC was examined using Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression, Ordinary Linear Regression, and Geographically Weighted Regression.ResultsPCMC in China showing a decreasing trend. Hotspots of PCMC appeared mainly in western and northern provinces, while cold spots were in southeastern coastal provinces. PM2.5 content was a risk factor for PCMC, the range of influence expanded from the southeastern coastal areas to inland areas, and the magnitude of influence decreased from the southeastern coastal areas to inland areas.ConclusionPM2.5 content, as a risk factor, should be given special attention, taking into account regional factors. In the future, policy-makers should develop stricter air pollution control policies based on different regional economic, demographic, and geographic factors, while promoting public education, increasing public transportation, and urban green coverage.

Remediation Technologies of Contaminated Sites in China: Application and Spatial Clustering Characteristics

Screening remediation technologies through the lens of green, low-carbon, and sustainable development is crucial for contaminated land management. To better understand the applicability of remediation technologies, this paper explored their application in China based on a survey of 643 cases. By employing coupled analysis and local spatial autocorrelation methods, this study reveals the alignment between remediation technologies and pollutants, along with their spatial distribution and clustering patterns. Specifically, the four primary remediation technologies identified were cement kiln co-processing (CKCP), chemical oxidation/reduction (CO/CR), thermal desorption (TR), and solidification and stabilization (S/S), collectively accounting for over 90% of the cases. Additionally, our findings indicated significant variation in how different pollutants respond to remediation technologies, largely attributable to the characteristics of the pollutants. We observed High–High clustering patterns for CKCP, CO/CR, TR, and S/S. These were predominantly found in Jiangsu, Chongqing, Shandong, and Guizhou for CKCP and CO/CR and in Hebei, Jiangsu, Shanghai, and Chongqing for CO/CR. TR exhibited a High–High clustering in Shanghai, as did S/S. This research contributes to reducing the economic and resource costs associated with the trial-and-error of screening contaminated soil remediation technologies, offering valuable scientific and technological guidance for contaminated land regulation.

County-Level Land Use Carbon Budget in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, China: Spatiotemporal Differentiation and Coordination Zoning

The local land use carbon budget (LUCB) balance is an important factor in achieving regional carbon neutrality. As the basic unit of China’s economic development and social governance, the county level is an important part of the realization of the “double carbon” goal. This paper focuses on 1069 county units within the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB). It utilizes data on land use, nighttime light, energy consumption, and social and economic factors to construct carbon emission models. The spatiotemporal characteristics of LUCB in these county units are analyzed using standard deviational ellipse (SDE) and spatial autocorrelation methods. Additionally, a zoning study is conducted by examining the economic contribution coefficient (ECC) of carbon emissions, the ecological support coefficient (ESC), and their coupling relationship. The results show that (1) the total land use carbon emissions (LUCE) increased significantly during the research period, and the total carbon sink was relatively stable. (2) The LUCB is spatially high in the east and low in the west, with the center of gravity moving to the southwest as a whole. (3) The LUCB shows positive spatial autocorrelation and has significant spatial agglomeration characteristics, which are mainly high–high and low–low regional agglomeration types. (4) The ECC is high in the east and low in the west, the ESC is high in the west and low in the east, and the coordination and coupling degrees of the two are low. (5) According to the ECC and ESC, the county unit is divided into a low-carbon conservation area, an economic development area, a carbon sink development area, and a comprehensive optimization area. This study is helpful in promoting the sustainable development of carbon neutrality and low carbon in the YREB.
