To thoroughly eliminate the waste acid and directly reuse the mother liquor in synthesizing metal-organic framework (MOF), dual copper source (DCS) strategy is established to prepare the selected model material MOF-199 (namely HKUST-1) with high quality. The obtained sample MOF-199-50 with specific surface area up to 1902 m2/g presents unique tetrakaidecahedron shape and shows high CO2 uptake capacity of 341.01 cm3/g at 196 K and 1.0 bar. By using the DCS route, the resultant mother liquor is directly reused as the solvent in synthesizing sample MOF-199-100R. It shows an attractive specific surface area of 1872 m2/g, which is obviously higher than that (1103 m2/g) of sample MOF-199-100 prepared with fresh solvent. Importantly, combined the advantages of two different copper sources, the DCS method well promotes each other and improves their conversion into main product. The reaction process including three possible reaction routes is also proposed. Thus, the DCS method featuring with waste zero-discharge is a green strategy for fabricating MOF materials.
