The digital transformation based on artificial intelligence supports the development of communities, organizations and nations that are economically committed to the technology that enables it, however, there are many spaces that remain empty if only a non-inclusive digital transformation is committed, so This study aims to explain the relationship between solidarity technologies and digital solidarity to promote digital transformation based on artificial intelligence, based on the theory of justice, solidarity and innovation. The research is quantitative, non-experimental, transectional, explanatory, case study of the Artificial Intelligence Center – IA.Center State of Chihuahua where 180 questionnaires were applied, analyzed by partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), using the SmartPLS software 4. The findings reveal that solidarity technology positively and significantly impacts digital solidarity and that digital solidarity positively and significantly impacts AI digital transformation. Another finding is that digital solidarity is a mediating variable between the positive and significant relationship between solidarity technology and AI digital transformation. It was also found that the predictive power of the global model is significant. It is concluded that just as paid technology favors digital transformation, so do solidarity technologies and digital solidarity.

Development of Ibu Kota Nusantara: The Threat of Mechanical Solidarity to Indigenous Communities

The development of the Ibu Kota Nusantara gave rise to the degradation of mechanical solidarity in indigenous communities. This article aims to examine the threat of mechanical solidarity that occurs in indigenous communities as a result of the development of the Ibu Kota Nusantara. The consequences of this threat must be recognized by various parties. This is important to provide space for existence, especially for local indigenous communities. The use of qualitative methods of the phenomenological type is the basis for the line of thought in this paper, where data is obtained through an observation process; interview; and document study. The data obtained was then analyzed using phenomenological analysis techniques. Based on Emile Durkheim’s theory of mechanical solidarity, the results show that indications of threat have clearly occurred as a result of IKN development. Threats to mechanical solidarity occur starting from land conversion which results in a crisis of local community identity and disintegration and leads to marginalization of local communities.

Peran Teori Sosial Émile Durkheim Dalam Pengembangan Pendidikan Agama Islam (Perspektif Solidaritas Sosial Dan Integrasi Masyarakat)

The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of Durkheim's social solidarity theory in the development of Islamic religious education in the context of social integration of Muslim society. This study uses a library method to analyze the role of Émile Durkheim's social theory in the development of Islamic religious education, focusing on the theory of social solidarity and its application. The literature used includes Durkheim's works as well as recent articles and research related to the relationship between Islamic religious education and social solidarity. By reviewing various references, this study aims to deepen understanding of the application of Durkheim's theory in the context of Islamic religious education in society. Islamic religious education has an important role in forming social solidarity through values ​​such as ukhuwah, ta'awun, and social justice. Durkheim's principle of social solidarity which emphasizes shared values ​​is very relevant to be applied in Islamic religious education. By teaching these values, Islamic religious education can strengthen social integration and create a more harmonious and just society.

Making and transcending boundaries: the effect of ritual on nationalism

In explaining national identity as an indicator of subjective belonging to the nation-state, researchers have examined factors such as occupational structure, economic discrimination, competition, and political recognition. However, the influence of cultural factors has often been neglected. By investigating the moderating effect of Shia and Sunni rituals on national identification, I find that the nature of rituals significantly influences the strength of national identity among subordinate ethnic groups. In Shia culture, the solidarity generated through ritual practices extends into national identity, fostering the formation of a confessional supra-identity. In contrast, rituals centered on personal piety in Sunni Islam do not produce the same effect. I propose a theory of interethnic solidarity based on ritual processes. A qualitative analysis of the cases of Turkey and Iran shows that in Turkey, the absence of cross-ethnic ties forged through less intense rituals leads to weaker national identity among Sunni Kurds and higher perceived ethnic discrimination. In Iran, however, the frequent practice of interactive rituals that transcend ethnic boundaries strengthens national identity among Shia ethnic minorities and reduces perceived ethnic discrimination. This research underscores how communal, intensive rituals play a key role in explaining variations in national identification.

IMPLEMENTASI DANA KANYAAH DI RT 05 KELURAHAN SUKAMULYA : MEMBANGUN SOLIDARITAS ANTAR AGAMA MELALUI PEMBIAYAAN KESEHATAN DAN PEMAKAMAN

This study aims to determine the implementation of the kanyaah fund in RT 05 Sukamulya Village which is one of the programs in building interfaith solidarity through health and funeral financing. This research is a qualitative study with data collection techniques of participant observation and in-depth interviews, using social solidarity theory analysis in responding to universal human needs and how individuals play an active role in the creation of social solidarity for people who have different beliefs in it. The results showed that through the kanyaah fund walking program, social solidarity was created in maintaining a life that upholds tolerance and harmonization in Sukamulya Village.

Oligarchy of Power in The Management of C-Mine Resources in Noemuti, North Central Timor Regency

This paper raises the dynamics of oligarchic power relations in the management of C-quarry mining resources in the form of stone in Noemuti District, North Central Timor Regency. This research uses the oligarchy theory of Jeffrey Winters as a basis for analysis in looking at mining problems that seem to be deadlocked when dealing with power authorities in resource management in the regions. The practice of oligarchy in Winters' theory uses 5 main approaches. But in this paper, it only limits to two approaches, namely the concentration of wealth and the concentration of power. Facing the dynamics of oligarchy that strengthens in local resource governance, on the other hand, presents resistance from civil society to take part in the legitimacy of power in the context of equitable distribution of resource management policies. The practice of community resistance is based on Sidney Tarrow's theory of collective challenge, common goals, solidarity and collective identity and maintaining the politics of resistance.

Influence of emotional solidarity on residents’ support for holiday rentals

ABSTRACT This study analyses residents’ support for holiday rentals within the framework of the Social Exchange Theory and Emotional Solidarity Theory. We propose an integrated conceptual model to evaluate how perceptions of positive and negative impacts, along with emotional solidarity among residents and tourists, as well as residents and hosts, affect support for holiday rentals. The study is based on a survey of 2,045 residents of Tenerife, Majorca and Alicante, applying PLS-SEM for data analysis. The results emphasise that emotional solidarity with tourists and hosts significantly influences perception of the impacts of the activity, showing how emotional ties can enhance support or rejection of tourism activities. This novel approach ponders important implications for managing tourist destinations and maintaining harmony in communities with holiday rental activity.

The evolution and application of emotional solidarity theory in tourism behaviour research

ABSTRACT This manuscript critically examines the use and application of the emotional solidarity (ES) theoretical framework within tourism, hospitality, sports, and leisure research, highlighting the interdisciplinary utilisation of the theory from other fields to understand individuals’ behaviour. The current study addresses the challenges posed by the selection of ES, including the issues of behavioural indicators, theory time lag, theory stickiness, and the potential restrictions of literature reviews. Through this exploration, this study aims to advocate for a more inclusive and dynamic approach to theory application in tourism studies that respects the original discipline's paradigms while adapting to the evolving landscape research focusing on residents’ and tourists’ behaviour as it pertains to the inextricably linked relationship between the parties.

Complexity of Ethnic Conflict Among Rohingya Refugees in Aceh: The Struggle Between Local Identity and International Law

This research examines the complexity of Rohingya refugee integration in Aceh using a qualitative approach and the social religious phenomenology method. The main focus is on the interaction between international law, local norms, religion, mass media, and the social dynamics that influence refugee reception and integration. Data collection methods include in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis, with informants comprising religious leaders, local government officials, Rohingya refugees, and local journalists. Thematic and narrative analyses are employed to identify and interpret relevant themes related to the application of the non-refoulement principle, the role of Islam, the influence of mass media, and the psychological well-being of refugees. The findings reveal the complexity of Rohingya refugee integration in Aceh, shaped by the interplay of international law, local norms, religion, mass media, and social dynamics. Legal pluralism theory highlights a gap between the non-refoulement principle and Aceh's local wisdom. Religious solidarity theory explains the initial drive for refugee acceptance, though collective historical experiences contribute to resistance. Agenda-setting theory uncovers media bias. The study’s limitations suggest the need for further research, particularly through a comparative approach to understand effective strategies for integrating international law with local norms.

The Existence of Religious Traditions of the Wonosari Village Community in Starting the Civilization of Social Life: Analysis of Emile Durkheim's Mechanical Solidarity Theory

Puwon Hamlet is one of the seven hamlets in Wonosari Village, Patebon Subdistrict, Kendal Regency. Various cultural activities from each hamlet in Wonosari Village still exist today. This research uses a field research method by going directly to the graves of Kyai and Nyai Cablik located in Puwon Hamlet, precisely RT 5 / RW 6 and stands on land not far from the public cemetery with land conditions higher than residents' houses. The results of this study when analyzed with Emile Durkheim's mechanical solidarity theory are the discovery of several types of traditional social life that still exist in Wonosari Village.

Rally-around-the-destination? Changes in host-guest emotional solidarity after crises

Utilizing the political concept of “rally-around-the-flag”, this study takes Jiuzhai Valley as a case to construct a framework of host-guest emotional solidarity and examines the dynamics of such solidarity after an earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic. Thematic and sentiment analyses are applied to interpret Sina Weibo data and the narratives derived from residents’ interviews as a form of triangulation. Results show that under crisis: (1) host-guest emotional solidarity includes shared beliefs, shared emotions, and interactive behaviors; (2) the short-term rally effect is emotion-driven and depends on “we-ness” relationships, emotional empathy, and place identity; (3) the long-term rally effect is value-driven and emerges when host-guest emotional empathy develops into value resonance through resource integration and relationship reconstruction. The results have implications for emotional solidarity theory and destination recovery in times of crisis.

Non-coresidential intergenerational relations from the perspective of adult children in China: typology and social welfare implications

The social changes in the new century and the shifting concept of filial piety have jointly shaped the unique intergenerational relationships in China. Intergenerational relationships are closely connected to arrangements for care of the older adults, particularly those who live alone. Based on data from the 2017 China General Social Survey (CGSS), the latent profile analysis method was used to explore the profiles of intergenerational family relationships and their influencing factors in the context of “non-co-residence” based on the five dimensions of intergenerational solidarity theory and related indicators. The study found that family intergenerational relationships can be categorised into five profiles: distant-emotional, proximity-detached, proximity-loose, distant-support, and traditional-reciprocal, which share commonalities with previous studies and have their own characteristics. The results of the multiple regression analysis showed that gender, education level, annual personal income for the previous year, self-rated happiness, and self-rated health had significant effects on the latent profiles of intergenerational relationships. Specifically, adult children who are male, living in a rural area, no legal spouse, a primary school education or less, an annual income above 50,001 RMB in the last year (2016), low or average self-rated happiness, and good self-rated health are more likely to deviate from the traditional filial support track (i.e. they are less likely to be the traditional-reciprocal) than their counterparts in these profiles. In the future, it will be important to increase attention to those families in which older parent live apart from their adult child through relevant legislation, social welfare systems, and social older-care services. This will help ensure that adult children provide intergenerational support and will enable the normal functioning of home- and community-based older adults’ care.

Intergenerational Caregiving Patterns and Cognitive Health among the Sandwich Generation Within Four-Generation Families.

This study aims to investigate whether generational differences in intergenerational caregiving patterns (caring for parents only, caring for grandchildren only, and caring for parents and grandchildren simultaneously) are associated with cognitive health disparities among the sandwich generation within four-generation families, drawing upon the theories of intergenerational solidarity and intergenerational stake. Moreover, this study seeks to identify mediators that help explain these disparities. A nationally representative sample of 8,065 respondents was drawn from the 2011 and 2018 waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. The findings reveal that the sandwich generation caring for grandchildren only, as well as those caring for grandchildren and parents simultaneously, exhibit better cognitive health. However, caregiving for parents only is not significantly related to their cognitive health. This study identifies the inability to reduce depressive symptoms as a mediator explaining the insignificant association between caregiving for parents only and the cognitive health of the sandwich generation. The findings underscore the importance of offering support to the sandwich generation within four-generation families to enhance their cognitive health. Moreover, it is imperative to distinguish between different intergenerational caregiving patterns based on generational differences among the sandwich generation, with a specific emphasis on allocating public resources aimed at promoting cognitive health for those engaged in caring for parents.

Amending the Emotional Solidarity Theoretical Framework Through the Addition of Perceived Similarity, Empathy, and Narcissism

ABSTRACT As tourism rebounds globally, a growing need persists to understand the complex social dynamics between residents and tourists and how these dynamics shape residents’ support for the industry. By employing an amended theory of emotional solidarity, this study examined factors affecting residents’ solidarity and how that translates to pro-tourism behaviour. Data were collected from 438 residents in Fiji and analyzed using covariance-based structural equation modelling. Of Woosnam’s original antecedents—shared beliefs and interaction—were positively related to the two dimensions of emotional solidarity (communality and fairness); whereas shared behaviour was only positively associated with communality. Two dimensions of empathy (affective and cognitive) were positively associated with both emotional solidarity dimensions. Narcissism was negatively related to communality. A positive association was found between narcissism and the fairness dimension of solidarity, despite hypothesizing a negative relationship. Finally, both the communality and fairness dimensions of solidarity significantly explained residents’ pro-tourism behavioural intentions.

Social Change, Solidarity, and Mass Agency

AbstractCritics of social injustice argue that the agent of transformative social change will (or should) be a mass agent; namely, an agent that is large, complex, and geographically dispersed. Traditional theories of collective agency emphasize the presence of shared intentions and common knowledge, but mass agents are too large for such cohesion. To make sense of mass agency, I suggest a new approach. On the solidarity theory of mass agency, a mass agent is composed of (a) organizers who intend to fight for social change and (b) supporters who are in solidarity with organizers.

This can be seen in a community of online motorcycle taxi drivers when conducting associations. However, the association has faded along with the spread of the COVID-19 virus in Indonesia. This makes the community association of online ojek drivers unscheduled and unable to conduct associations between online motorcycle taxi drivers due to the implementation of community activity restrictions (PPKM). With conditions like this, the association of online motorcycle taxi drivers in a community in palangkaraya city is hampered. This study aims to find out how solidarity occurs between online motorcycle taxi drivers in Palangka Raya city after the Covid-19 pandemic when viewed from the point of view of social solidarity theory. This research uses qualitative-descriptive methods to describe each behavior of the activities of the object under study, so as to produce accurate information, also carried out with a sociological approach. The theory used is social solidarity as formulated by Emile Durkheim. All forms of data collection and processing are carried out by means of surveys as well as the author's participation in the activities of the online motorcycle taxi driver community in the city of Palangkaraya. The results of this study show that online motorcycle taxi drivers who in fact vary in ethnicity, religion and culture play an important role as actors in developing an attitude of social solidarity as a result of disaster fundraising or disaster sesame drivers, gatherings every two weeks on certain days, regular social gatherings that are carried out once a week on Saturdays.</p><p class="Normal1"> </p></td></tr></tbody></table>

EARLY PANDEMIC INTERGENERATIONAL RELATIONSHIP TYPOLOGIES AND WELL-BEING AMONG OLDER ADULTS

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated numerous changes in older adults’ social interactions; however, there has been limited inquiry into the structure and function of early pandemic intergenerational relationships and consequent implications for well-being. Informed by intergenerational solidarity theory, we explored typologies of older adults’ intergenerational relationships early in the pandemic, examining factors associated with each typology and associations between typologies and well-being. Participants were 7,840 adults aged ≥ 50 from the 2020 and 2021 waves of the Health and Retirement Study. We conducted latent class analysis using 12 indicators: associational (time with pets, frequency of in-person and virtual contact), structural (pet ownership and living arrangement), functional (receiving/providing support), and affectual (better relations). We used analysis of variance and post hoc analyses to determine whether individual differences (i.e., demographics, health status, and pandemic-related stressors), and well-being differed across typologies. Five latent classes were identified: low intergenerational relations (48%), pet owner with low intergenerational relations (15%), high contact and good relationship quality (tightknit, 11%), support provider (15%) and support recipient (12%). Older adults’ age, gender, marital status, and health status were related to their relation typologies. Low intergenerational relations and tightknit typologies reported greater well-being. Support recipients reported the most distress, while support providers reported higher growth and resilience. Pet owners with low intergenerational relations reported the lowest positive emotions. Overall, results encourage careful attention to the multifaceted nature of intergenerational relationships when understanding coping of older adults in the pandemic.

INTERGENERATIONAL RELATIONS OF MARRIED PERSONS WITH THEIR PATRILINEAL AND MATRILINEAL PARENTS IN CHINA

Abstract Objective Guided by modernization theory and intergenerational solidarity theory, this study examined the general patterns of intergenerational relations with patrilineal and matrilineal parents in contemporary China and explored its influencing factors and mechanism. Methods Data from the 2017 Chinese General Social Survey were examined. Analytic samples consisted of married respondents with at least one patrilineal parent and one matrilineal parent alive (N = 1098). Latent class analysis (14 functional, structural and associational indicators) classified the intergenerational relations and multinomial logistic regression explored how these intergenerational relation patterns were associated with education, and marital and kinship relation by gender. Results Five intergenerational relation types were revealed, three types (close to both parents and support upward more, 35.7%; close to both parents and reciprocal, 26.4%; distant to both parents, 11%) showed balanced patterns and two types (close to patrilineal parent but distant to matrilineal parent, 20%; close to matrilineal parent but distant to patrilineal parent, 6.9%) with unbalanced patterns. Children with higher educational level tended to form more egalitarian and bilateral intergenerational relations, both for husbands and wives. Moreover, good marital relation and more brothers facilitated this tendency for wives only. Conclusions Results provided evidence for the maintenance and changes of patrilineal culture, and the increased importance of marital relation in China. Findings reaffirmed that married children had different interaction patterns with their patrilineal and matrilineal parents, and discussed the changes in social norms governing the responsibilities of husbands and wives. DIGITAL LITERACY, INTERGENERATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS, AND CARE PREPARATION AMONG CHINESE AGING ADULTS IN HONG KONG

Abstract The rapid ageing trend spotlights the need for more eldercare. Care preparation as a form of proactive coping can mitigate the negative effects of potential eldercare needs. Acquisition and preservation of resources are essential for effective proactive coping. The roles of digital literacy and intergenerational relationships as two significant resources in older people’s care preparation are still understudied. Integrating social convoy theory, intergenerational solidarity theory, and proactive coping theory, this study compared the levels of digital literacy, intergenerational relationships, and care preparation in son-dominant, daughter-dominant, and daughter & son-balance families; and examined the mediating effects of intergenerational relationships on the relationship between digital literacy and care preparation. Data from 3,626 participants with at least one adult child were drawn from the Panel Study of Active Ageing and Society, a biennial study conducted with a representative sample of people older than 50 years in Hong Kong. ANOVA was used to compare scores of key variables in three types of families. PROCESS was used to examine the mediation effects. Results showed that participants in a son-dominant family had the highest level of digital literacy; those in a daughter-dominant family reported the highest levels of intergenerational relationship quality and care preparation. Intergenerational relationship quality mediated the relationship between digital literacy and care preparation in three types of families while the effect sizes differed. These findings implicate the need to enhance older people’s digital literacy and foster their intergenerational relationships, thereby assisting them to be well-prepared for care needs in later life.
