Compton profiles of liquid and solid lithium metals

Compton profile measurements have been performed on liquid and solid lithium metal using 59.54 keV γ-ray from 241Am source. A difference between Compton profiles in both states has been found.

Potential energy surfaces for the interaction of atomic and diatomic hydrogen with lithium metal clusters

In this paper a modified CNDO/2 method is used to study the interaction of hydrogen atoms and molecules with molecular clusters simulating the (100) surface of solid lithium metal. The modification, described in an earlier papers, involves rescaling bicentric CNDO/2 energy contributions with known diatomic bond energies. Potential energy curves are calculated for six attack points by the hydrogen atom on the surface, and for one attack point by the molecule. The results indicate that in both atom and molecule forms hydrogen penetrates the surface and that the molecule most likely dissociates.

On the interaction of a hydrogen atom with a lithium metal surface

In this paper we adopt a molecular cluster approach to study the interaction of a hydrogen atom with a (100) surface of solid lithium metal. In this study, the spin-unrestricted Hartree-Fock equation is solved for the molecular cluster. We also solve for the potential energy surface of the LiH molecule and the Li 2 molecule. We find that the essential features of the hydrogen surface interaction can be understood in terms of the molecule two body interactions. We also find that the hydrogen atom sits below the surface of the Li metal rather than above the surface.

Isotopic Effect on the Melting Point of Lithium Nitrate

The techniques of segregation during normal freezing and of zone melting have been used to establish that the melting point of 6LiNO3 is higher than that of 7LiNO3. The difference is of the order of 0.03 °C. The isotope shift of the melting point is in the opposite direction of the isotope effects found previously for phase transitions in solid lithium metal and lithium sulfate. For the latter salt a recalculation based on a more accurate value for the self-diffusion coefficient shows that the temperature of transition at about 575 °C to a fee structure is about 0.08 degr. lower for 6Li2SO4 than for 7Li2SO4.
