Study on Network Error Analysis and Locating based on Integrated Information Decision System

Integrated information decision system (IIDS) integrates multiple sub-system developed by many facilities, including almost hundred kinds of software, which provides with various services, such as email, short messages, drawing and sharing. Because the under-layer protocols are different, user standards are not unified, many errors are occurred during the stages of setup, configuration, and operation, which seriously affect the usage. Because the errors are various, which may be happened in different operation phases, stages, TCP/IP communication protocol layers, sub-system software, it is necessary to design a network error analysis and locating tool for IIDS to solve the above problems. This paper studies on network error analysis and locating based on IIDS, which provides strong theory and technology supports for the running and communicating of IIDS.

Horizontal Directional Drilling-Length Detection Technology While Drilling Based on Bi-Electro-Magnetic Sensing.

The drilling length is an important parameter in the process of horizontal directional drilling (HDD) exploration and recovery, but there has been a lack of accurate, automatically obtained statistics regarding this parameter. Herein, a technique for real-time HDD length detection and a management system based on the electromagnetic detection method with a microprocessor and two magnetoresistive sensors employing the software LabVIEW are proposed. The basic principle is to detect the change in the magnetic-field strength near a current coil while the drill stem and drill-stem joint successively pass through the current coil forward or backward. The detection system consists of a hardware subsystem and a software subsystem. The hardware subsystem employs a single-chip microprocessor as the main controller. A current coil is installed in front of the clamping unit, and two magneto resistive sensors are installed on the sides of the coil symmetrically and perpendicular to the direction of movement of the drill pipe. Their responses are used to judge whether the drill-stem joint is passing through the clamping unit; then, the order of their responses is used to judge the movement direction. The software subsystem is composed of a visual software running on the host computer and a software running in the slave microprocessor. The host-computer software processes, displays, and saves the drilling-length data, whereas the slave microprocessor software operates the hardware system. A combined test demonstrated the feasibility of the entire drilling-length detection system.

SPECIALIZED MEASURMENT SYSTEM FOR EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH OF SUSPENSION SYSTEM LOADING CONDITIONS OF A HIGH MOBILITY TRACKED VEHICLES

Loading of cushioning systems, as a condition caused by external influences and operating conditions, for highspeed tracked vehicles is determined by the characteristics of the track profile and motion modes. The most reliable estimate of the operational parameters of loading of parts and suspension assemblies is obtained experimentally using specialized measuring equipment. Within the conducted investigations for determining of kinematic and force parameters of loading of the elements of the cushioning system of a 14-ton tracked vehicle while driving on forest ground roads, a measuring system has been developed that realizes estimation of the loading characteristics by the angular position of the suspensions relative to the vehicle body. The measuring system consists of the hardware and software subsystems and records angles of twisting of torsion shafts as a function of time, with subsequent conversion and statistical processing of obtained data into the loading characteristics of elastic elements and suspension arms. According to received sample data, the software subsystem calculates average durability of torsion shafts in order to determine the most loaded suspensions. The advantage of the study is in relative simplicity and versatility. The hardware subsystem and rigging of the sensor equipment attachment do not require making changes in the construction of the undercarriage and allows to carry out investigations on most types of tracked vehicles. The software subsystem can be adapted for studies of loading of tracked machines of different weight categories. Reliability of the test equipment, as well as stability of formation and recording of measuring signals, was evaluated in polygon tests during motion of a tracked vehicle in difficult road conditions along 350 km tracks.

Software Sub-system in Loading Automatic Test System for the Measurement of Power Line Filters

The loading automatic test system for measurement of power line filters are in urgent demand. So the software sub-system of the whole test system was proposed. Methods: structured the test system based on the virtual instrument framework, which consisted of lower and up computer and adopted the top down approach of design to perform the system and its modules, according to the measurement principle of the test system. Results: The software sub-system including human machine interface, data analysis and process software, expert system, communication software, control software in lower computer, etc. had been designed. Furthermore, it had been integrated into the entire test system. Conclusion: This sub-system provided a fiendly software platform for the whole test system, and had many advantages such as strong functions, high performances, low prices. It not only raises the test efficiency of EMI filters, but also renders some creativities.

Development of an information and consulting system for managing production processes

The features of the implementation of the information and advisory system for planning the main parameters of production processes are considered. In particular, mathematical models for calculating the optimal volume of production of gross output in physical terms and in value terms are presented. The implementation of the software subsystems for calculating the total cost of production by the matrix method and the subsystem for calculating the optimal production price per unit of output in the MATLAB environment is described. The developed mathematical models and subsystems of the software application have been tested using the example of a pulp and paper mill. As a tool for measuring the unit cost of a product (works, services), a matrix formula is proposed. The developed information and advisory system will allow to calculate the optimal volumes of gross production in physical terms, as well as the optimal norms of conditional-constant expenses by the most effective method of planning - the balance method.

Preclinical molecular imaging: development of instrumentation for translational research with small laboratory animals.

ABSTRACTObjective:To present the result of upgrading a clinical gamma-camera to be used to obtain in vivo tomographic images of small animal organs, and its application to register cardiac, renal and neurological images.Methods:An updated version of the miniSPECT upgrading device was built, which is composed of mechanical, electronic and software subsystems. The device was attached to a Discovery VH (General Electric Healthcare) gamma-camera, which was retired from the clinical service and installed at the Centro de Imagem Pré-Clínica of the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein. The combined system was characterized, determining operational parameters, such as spatial resolution, magnification, maximum acceptable target size, number of projections, and acquisition and reconstruction times.Results:Images were obtained with 0.5mm spatial resolution, with acquisition and reconstruction times between 30 and 45 minutes, using iterative reconstruction with 10 to 20 iterations and 4 projection subsets. The system was validated acquiring in vivo tomographic images of the heart, kidneys and brain of normal animals (mice and adult rats), using the radiopharmaceuticals technetium-labeled hexakis-2-methoxy-isobutyl isonitrile (99mTc-Sestamibi), technetium-labeled dimercaptosuccinic acid (99mTc-DMSA) and technetium-labeled hexamethyl propyleneamine oxime (99mTc-HMPAO).Conclusion:This kind of application, which consists in the adaptation for an alternative objective of already existing instrumentation, resulted in a low-cost infrastructure option, allowing to carry out large scale in vivo studies with enhanced quality in several areas, such as neurology, nephrology, cardiology, among others.

Holistic approach to management of IT infrastructure for environmental monitoring and decision support systems with urgent computing capabilities

Modern environmental monitoring and decision support systems are based on complex IT infrastructures comprising multiple hardware and software subsystems that need to provide a variety of Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees required for urgent computing services, essential in emergency situations. Such IT infrastructures need to be managed in order to maintain the quality of service, which–especially when operating in the urgent mode–involves optimization of multiple, often conflicting, objectives and making trade-offs between them. Existing approaches do not solve this issue optimally because they focus on delivering quality of service within individual subsystems in isolation. We propose a holistic approach to system management which takes into account knowledge about the system as a whole—in particular the interplay of conflicting objectives and configuration options across all subsystems. We argue that such an approach produces a better configuration of the involved subsystems, improving the resolution of trade-offs between cost, energy and performance objectives, leading to their better overall fulfillment in comparison with the non-holistic approach in which individual subsystems are managed in isolation. We validate our approach using a prototype implementation of the holistic optimization algorithm—the Holistic Computing Controller, and applying it to a smart levee monitoring and flood decision support system.

An empirical study of software entropy based bug prediction using machine learning

There are many approaches for predicting bugs in software systems. A popular approach for bug prediction is using entropy of changes as proposed by Hassan (2009). This paper uses the metrics derived using entropy of changes to compare five machine learning techniques, namely Gene Expression Programming (GEP), General Regression Neural Network, Locally Weighted Regression, Support Vector Regression (SVR) and Least Median Square Regression for predicting bugs. Four software subsystems: mozilla/layout/generic, mozilla/layout/forms, apache/httpd/modules/ssl and apache/httpd/modules/mappers are used for the validation purpose. The data extraction for the validation purpose is automated by developing an algorithm that employs web scraping and regular expressions. The study suggests GEP and SVR as stable regression techniques for bug prediction using entropy of changes.

Where Has My Battery Gone?: A Novel Crowdsourced Solution for Characterizing Energy Consumption

The increased complexity of smartphone applications, and the increasing number of system settings affecting these applications, has made it difficult to understand and optimize battery use. This article summarizes the authors' recent work on developing a novel crowdsourced solution for characterizing energy consumption of system settings, subsystem variables, and other context factors. Their technique can simultaneously capture relationships between multiple factors, such as software subsystems and system settings, and provide a unified view of the energy state of a mobile device. They demonstrate the benefits of their approach by analyzing a large-scale crowdsourced dataset. Results of their analysis reveal new insights into battery consumption.

Application of Modelling and Simulation in the Selection of Production Lines

Production lines are complex mechatronic systems which have in their structure mechanical, electronic, control and software subsystems. The complexity of these systems is identified for mass production of paper napkins. The aim is to decide on the choice of the production line in terms of ensuring growth of value of the business and satisfaction of customers needs. The decision making process is carried out in steps of formulating the investment problem, technical features of the project, economic evaluation of the project based on a financial model in Microsoft Excel and analysis of project risks utilizing Monte Carlo simulations in the Crystal Ball system.

Experiment on signal filter combinations for the analysis of information from inertial measurement units in AOCS

The FDIR software subsystem may be part of the attitude and orbit control subsystem, AOCS. The AOCS quite often includes inertial navigation sensors being physically implemented by accelerometers and gyroscopes which provide electrical signals to the AOCS on-board software (OBSW) which, in its turn, generates the commands to the control actuators. In general, hardware like sensors and actuators present nonlinearities which sometimes make it difficult to properly interpret the output signals. In the scenario of space applications, filters are used to eliminate noise and to increase the reliability for the correct interpretation of those signals. In this paper we present a collection of filters used in inertial navigation subsystems enabling the fusion of data from sensors. Fundamentally, the filters are composed of the Kalman filter in its derivations. The filters can be used for state estimation of a system as well as for noise filtering. In this work the filters are configured with respect to their different orders of execution, their sampling rate, and their cutting-off frequency. The filter configurations can be changed by software so as to allow a flexible structure that can be adjusted for the best quality of output signal and consequently the best analysis of the satellite behaviour. The main purpose of this paper is to test the algorithm that combines several signal filters considered in this study. To accomplish this goal we developed an experiment encompassing an accelerometer and a wireless communication system so as to provide input signals to be filtered by the filtering algorithm.

DESIGN OF A ROBOTIC ARM FOR TEACHING INTEGRATED DESIGN

Automation systems are generally made upof three main subsystems, namely mechanical, electricaland software. The interactions among these componentsaffect the integrated system in terms of reliability, quality,scalability, and cost. Therefore, it is imperative that thethree components of automation systems are designedconcurrently through an integrated design paradigm.This leads to the need to teach integrated design conceptsto students in programs such as process automation,electrical and computer engineering, and mechanicalengineering. However, due to the time constraint, it isalmost impossible to run full integrated design classprojects. Therefore, instructors have to decide on theparts of the design process that their class projects haveto focus on, and the parts that have to be reviewed for thecompleteness of the integrated design process. In thispaper we present the design and implementation of amicrocontroller based, 3D printable, low cost robotic armsuitable for teaching integrated design. Moreover, thepaper presents how the robotic arm design is used in anintegrated design project of an Industrial Networks andControllers course. Since the focus of this course is theelectrical and software subsystems of the robotic arm,and we do not have enough time to do a full design,students review the design of the robotic arm presented inthis paper and use it to either 3D print the robotic arm orpurchase the mechanical subsystem of the robotic armthat meets the specification.

DEEP-South: Automated Observation Scheduling, Data Reduction and Analysis Software Subsystem

AbstractWe started ‘DEep Ecliptic Patrol of the Southern sky’ (DEEP-South, DS) (Moon et al. 2015) in late 2012, and conducted test runs with the first Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet) (Park et al. 2012), a 1.6 m telescope with 18k x 18k CCD stationed at CTIO in early 2015. While the primary objective of DEEP-South is the physical characterization of small Solar System bodies, it is also expected to discover a large number of such bodies, many of them previously unknown. An automated observation scheduling, data reduction and analysis software subsystem called ‘DEEP-South Scheduling and Data reduction System’ (DS SDS) is thus being designed and implemented to enable observation planning, data reduction and analysis with minimal human intervention.

A low power miniaturized monitoring system of six human physiological parameters based on wearable body sensor network

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to design a low-power human physiological parameters monitoring system which can monitor six vital parameters simultaneously based on wearable body sensor network. Design/methodology/approach – This paper presents a low-power multiple physiological parameters monitoring system (MPMS) which comprises four subsystems. These are: electrocardiogram (ECG)/respiration (RESP) parameters monitoring subsystem with embedded algorithms; blood oxygen (SpO2)/pulse rate (PR)/body temperature (BT)/blood pressure (BP) parameters monitoring subsystem with embedded algorithms; main control subsystem which is in charge of system-level power management, communication and interaction design; and upper computer software subsystem which manipulates system function and analyzes data. Findings – Results have successfully demonstrated monitoring human ECG, RESP, PR, SpO2, BP and BT simultaneously using the MPMS device. In addition, the power reduction technique developed in this work at the physical/hardware level is effective. Reliability of algorithms developed for monitoring these parameters is assessed by Fluke Prosim8 Vital Signs Simulators (produced by Fluke Corp. USA). Practical implications – The MPMS device provides long-term health monitoring without interference from normal personal activities, which potentially allows applications in real-time daily healthcare monitoring, chronic diseases monitoring, elderly monitoring, human emotions recognization and so on. Originality/value – First, a power reduction technique at the physical/hardware level is designed to realize low power consumption. Second, the proposed MPMS device enables simultaneously monitoring six key parameters. Third, unlike most monitoring systems in bulk size, the proposed system is much smaller (118 × 58 × 18.5 mm3, 140 g total weight). In addition, a comfortable smart shirt is fabricated to accommodate the portable device, offering reliable measurements.

Development of Microcontroller Based Potentiometric Transduction Circuit for a Continuous Fluid Level Sensor

This paper presents the development of microcontroller based potentiometric transduction circuit for a continuous fluid level sensor. The purpose system involved the integration between hardware and software subsystem. For hardware subsystem, the design of potentiometric circuit was tested with theoretical computation, simulation on Proteus VSM software and breadboard circuit. This finding was then used to develop interface for the analog-to-digital converter. For software subsystem, the water level indicator system has been developed using ATMEGA2560 by converting the output from potentiometric circuit into water level with a look-up table. It computes the digital data conversion into desired reading and displays data through the second hardware subsystem which is liquid crystal display. A potentiometric indicator for a continuous fluid level sensor to detect level of water ponding on the flat roof was developed. It was comprised of a potentiometric transduction stage and follower stage. From the experiment, it was shown that the potentiometric circuit designed was able to report changes in the water in a different level. The integration of the continuous fluid level sensor with the potentiometric indicator system will have a significant impact on the practice of sensor integration.

Exploiting asymmetric CPU performance for fast startup of subsystem in mobile smart devices

Fast startup of a subsystem, such as an image subsystem, is important in mobile smart devices because the startup time is directly related to the responsiveness of applications, such as a camera. This paper proposes a CPU switch method that offloads the long initialization phase from the subsystem to the fast main CPU in an application processor. By providing a consistent execution environment in the main CPU, the subsystem software can be easily ported without significant engineering costs. The evaluation results show that the proposed scheme greatly reduces the startup time of the image subsystem by up to 78% <sup xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">1</sup> .
