Fear Of Success in Women Working with The Banyumas Cultural Approach

Indonesia has a variety of cultures in each region. Javanese culture in general namely konco wingking and the Banyumas culture which is one of the parts of Java, namely cablaka, it contributes to the development of women careers because there are contradictions between the two cultures. This systematic review aims to examine the fear of success in women working with the Banyumas cultural approach. The inclusion and exclusion criteria like data that used in 2009-2019 time frame, data obtained from the site https://scholar.google.co.id, the data that used is related to fear of success, cablaka, and Javanese women. Based on the results of the literature review, it is understood that fear of success is an obstacle to women career development because of the fear of negative results obtained (loss of femininity, loss of social self-esteem, and loss of social rejection). Women who experience fear of success blame the culture as a set of internal hope. Javanese women has culture, the name is konco wingking. It is a caste differentiate between women and men, where men have a higher position. Cablaka culture is a culture of the spontaneity of the Banyumas community towards everything that happens in plain sight without being covered up. The orientation of Banyumas cultural values shows that there are five Banyumas human relations with the meaning of life, work, time, nature, and fellow humans.

Love, sex, drugs and women’s sub-optimal adherence to MDR-TB treatment in South Africa: Opportunities for enhanced health education

Objective: Rising incidence of acquired multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in South Africa suggests low knowledge and implementation of infection prevention and control strategies in household and congregate settings. This study contributes to the under-researched area of non-biomedical responses to sub-adherence to treatment. Design: The study utilises a quasi-ethnographic qualitative case study of 10 women aged 18 to 34 years to understand their treatment adherence behaviours through the lens of their sex, gender, age, cultural beliefs and socio-economic status. Setting: This study investigated reasons for young women’s sub-optimal adherence to treatment for acquired MDR-TB in eThekwini Metro, KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa, which records high burdens of tuberculosis (TB), MDR-TB and HIV. Methods: Primary data were collected from 20 participants who were selected through criterion, purposive and snowball sampling. Data were gathered through focus group discussions with women being treated for transmitted MDR-TB and key informant interviews with their family members, health workers and KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Department of Health personnel. Results: Anti-MDR-TB treatment affects women’s sexuality, intimate relationships, family planning intentions and reproductive health. Some vulnerable women struggle to persevere on noxious and lengthy treatment regimes that affect their reproductive and psychological health. Women may skip doses or abandon treatment when high pill burdens and adverse events make intimate and sexual relations with male partners, on whom they may depend for their livelihoods, difficult. Conclusion: It is important to consider the effects of lengthy treatment on young people’s social and sexual lives and self-esteem when (re)designing MDR-TB counselling approaches. This paper advances an evidence-based treatment education and counselling strategy to contribute to improving MDR-TB treatment adherence and success.

Treatment and Therapeutic Change of Individuals Imprisoned for Child Abuse in the Barcelona Study on Sex Offenders.

The sexual abuse of children is a serious social problem that must be prevented through distinct measures. Among them is the application of treatments to those who have already committed sex crimes in order to prevent them from committing a new one. To assess the efficacy of sexual offense treatment, the most common method has been to compare the recidivism rates of treated and untreated groups. Several meta-analyses in this regard-as well as some specific studies in Spain-have shown that the application of treatment is associated with lower recidivism rates. However, the analysis of the subjects' recidivism alone does not reveal the therapeutic changes that the treatment may elicit in them. Some international studies have evaluated the therapeutic improvements resulting from the application of treatments to men who had sexually abused children. In this context, this study explores the therapeutic changes experienced by a sample of subjects imprisoned for child abuse (N = 145), after participating in the treatment program applied in the Spanish prison system. Nine therapeutic variables were assessed (such as anxiety, cognitive distortions, impulsivity, and social self-esteem), before and after treatment, using an instrument named the Psychological Assessment Scale for Sex Offenders (PASSO). The obtained results show that most of the assessed therapeutic variables improved after treatment, with strong correlations between them. The implications of the results for treatment practice are discussed, as well as the main methodological limitations of this research.

Social Support and Self-Esteem as Predictors of Psychological Distress among Students with Learning Disabilities in Accra, Ghana

Using a survey research design, this study examined the extent to which social support and self-esteem predict psychological distress among students with learning disabilities at Multi Kids Inclusive Academy in Accra, Ghana. The Simple Random Sampling technique was used to select 94 students. Survey questionnaires containing the Child and Adolescent Social Support Scale (Malecki & Demaray, 2002), Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (Lovibond & Lovibond, 1995), and Adapted Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (Dagnan & Sandhu, 1999) were used to collected data. Descriptive statistics, Reliability and Normality tests, Simple Linear Regression Analysis, and the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient test within the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23 application software were used to analyze data. Results indicated that Social Support from Teachers (β= .202, p = .033) and Social Support from Classmates (β= .548, p = .000) predicts psychological distress. Social Support from Parents Dimension subscale (β= -.024, p = .810), did not predict psychological distress. In addition, a significant negative relationship was found between self-concept and psychological distress. Also, differences in gender (β= -.238, p = .033) and age (β= .266, p = .017) predicts psychological distress.

Quality of Life After Class III Repair Orthognathic Surgery: Five-Year Retrospective Study.

To evaluate the effect of orthognathic surgery on the long-term quality of life of patients with presurgical skeletal Class III and to identify its strongest effect-whether esthetic, social, or functional. In this retrospective cohort study, the subjects were patients after orthognathic surgery for repairing skeletal Class III. Fifty-five patients who had undergone orthognathic surgery from 2013 to 2018 in the oral and maxillofacial surgery department participated in this study. Each participant completed a modified questionnaire used to assess the patient's esthetic, social, and functional abilities after orthognathic surgery. The rate of esthetic improvement in orthognathic surgery patients was 88%. More than four-fifths (81.8%) of the patients reported improvement in their personal and social self-esteem and confidence. Finally, 40.7% of the patients reported functional improvement. No significant differences between male and female patients were found. All but one of the patients recommended orthognathic surgery for patients with similar problems. One in six (17.3%) patients was dissatisfied with the nasal appearance after the surgical procedure, while almost a quarter (21.8%) reported worsening of their mouth opening, and 25.4% reported worsening of TMJ (Temporo-Mandibular Joint) symptoms. Analysis of the results revealed no statistically significant pattern connecting preoperative overjet or overbite measures with satisfaction rates. In this study, patient satisfaction with the orthognathic surgical procedure was mostly a result of improvements in facial esthetics, followed by psychological well-being and functional abilities. Most dissatisfaction after the orthognathic surgical procedure was related to nasal appearance, mouth opening, and TMJ complaints.

Identity lost and found: Self-concept clarity in social network site contexts

ABSTRACT Social network sites (SNSs) allow young people to experiment with and present different aspects of themselves during important periods of self-concept development. Interestingly, whether SNSs have negative or positive effects on self-concept clarity (SCC) is inconclusive. We propose that SNS use may simultaneously produce negative and positive effects on SCC, depending on how people use it and the social connection quality created on-line. Specifically, the suppressing mediation model reveals that the direct effect of SNS use intensity on SCC is negative, whereas the indirect effects via perceived social support and self-esteem are positive, suggesting these variables may suppress the negative effect of SNS use on SCC. Our framework helps to explain how SNS contexts influence identity development in young people.

Effects of Nature-Based Group Art Therapy Programs on Stress, Self-Esteem and Changes in Electroencephalogram (EEG) in Non-Disabled Siblings of Children with Disabilities

The purpose of the present study was to examine changes in brain waves, stress, and self-esteem after a continuous eight-week nature-based art therapy program in the forest in non-disabled siblings of children with disabilities. A total of 29 participants participated in this study (art therapy program group, n = 18; control group, n = 11). The art therapy program group received eight weekly sessions of art therapy lasting 60 min each. Pre- and post-test results showed positive changes in the brain function index and stress levels of the participants in the art therapy program group. On the self-esteem scale, overall and social self-esteem increased significantly. In conclusion, creative activities in the forest can increase resistance to diseases through mechanisms that relieve stress and increase self-esteem. If art therapy that emphasizes somatosensory experience, creative expression, and self-motivation is accompanied by forest activities, this combined intervention can elicit positive physical and psychological changes.

Development and assessment of feasibility of a community-based peer support intervention to mitigate social isolation and stigma of adolescent motherhood in Harare, Zimbabwe

BackgroundAdolescent mothers in Zimbabwe often experience stigma, isolation, and lack coping skills and resources to successfully navigate motherhood. Social isolation and stigma are linked to poor mental health outcomes. No interventions currently address mental health of adolescent mothers in Zimbabwe. Peer support groups in other contexts have been effective at increasing social connectedness, self-esteem, and self-efficacy, providing coping mechanisms to manage stigma experiences, in addition to empowering and improving mental health of adolescents and adolescent mothers. To develop a community-based peer support intervention, we aimed to understand the unique needs of adolescent mothers, how peer support groups could address those needs, and the feasibility of implementing the intervention.MethodsFocus group discussions were conducted with 86 adolescent mothers aged 14–18 years, 24 community health workers, and 25 key community stakeholders in a low-income high-density community in Harare. Data were analyzed thematically using NVivo 12 software.ResultsParticipants described adolescent mother experiences with stigma and social isolation, in addition to challenges including gossip, lack of employment and educational opportunities, and gaps in services and programming. Peer support groups for adolescent mothers were welcomed to improve mental health, social support, knowledge sharing, and skills building. Participants identified varying preferred frequency and duration of group sessions addressing topics including income generation, mental health, and gossip, facilitated by community health workers at health and community centers. The use of WhatsApp Messenger to support intervention efforts was welcomed as an affordable and user-friendly platform to share information. Implementation (i.e., training, supervision, frequency, location, and co-facilitation) was feasible.ConclusionsAdolescent mothers, community health workers and key community stakeholders welcomed the peer support groups as a feasible way to address the mothers’ needs.

Modelling ambivalent triads in family research

This research focuses on ambivalence in family networks and presents a framework for investigating how triadic configurations, beyond specific dyads, may affect individual outcomes such as well-being. First, the paper introduces the ambivalent triad census, counting the frequencies of 18 non-isomorphic triads in which ties can be positive, negative, or ambivalent, in non-directed networks, and proposes the linear combinations of three theoretical mechanisms (ambivalent balance, diffusion of stress, divide and conquer) predicting how embeddedness in an ambivalent triad may affect individual well-being. Second, the ambivalent triad census is applied to 300 non-directed family networks, 150 stepfamilies and 150 first-time families, in which mothers reported about the relationships with and between family members. Results show that mothers embedded in triads exhibiting more ambivalent balance and less diffusion of stress score higher on social self-esteem. The study emphasizes the importance of studying ambivalence in higher-level relational structures, such as triads, in families.

Effects of a powered mobility summer camp as perceived by school staff: a qualitative study

Purpose Powered mobility has a positive effect on social skills, self-esteem and overall development of children with motor impairments, but almost all previous studies were conducted with pre-school children. The aim of this study was to explore change beyond mobility following a therapeutic powered mobility summer camp for school-aged children and adolescents with severe cerebral palsy, as perceived by school staff. Materials and methods The participants in the therapeutic camp, which ran for 3 weeks, 5 days a week, three times over the summers 2018–2019, were children ages 7–19 (median age 11) with severe cerebral palsy who needed assistance in mobility and had limited hand function. Following the intervention, 19 semi-structured audio-recorded interviews were conducted with school staff, then transcribed and thematically analyzed using an inductive qualitative descriptive design with a phenomenological theoretical framework. Results Four overarching themes were identified: (1) “Every step you take: mastering new, sometimes unexpected, skills”, (2) “Break on through to the other side: changes in behaviour”, (3) “Make new friends (but keep the old): Boosting social behaviour” and (4) “I’m a believer: The journey through self-efficacy to empowerment”. Conclusions The interviews showed the immediate positive influence of powered mobility for children who previously did not have independent mobility, following an intensive intervention. Changes in initiative, empowerment, social relationships and behaviour highlight the importance of self-generated mobility, regardless of whether independence was achieved. School-aged children with severe cerebral palsy seem to benefit from an intensive powered mobility intervention in areas other than mobility skills themselves. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION Powered mobility intervention seems to encourage activity and initiation among children and youth with severe CP. This research adds to the understanding of the effect powered mobility can have on social interaction and communication. Powered mobility might be a means to allow development, in addition to being an important end.

The Influence of Social Support, Self-Esteem and Self-Efficacy on Academic Achievement

Academic achievement is a prominent indicator of student’s learning success. However, not all students can meet this goal. Therefore, this study analyzed the influence of social support, self-esteem, and self-efficacy on the academic achievement of MAN 5 Cirebon students. As many as 70 students from grades X and XI were selected using purposive sampling technique. Their data were collected using instruments such as the scales of social support, self-esteem, and self-efficacy. It was revealed that social support, self-esteem, and self-efficacy had a positive influence on academic achievement. These findings emphasize the importance of the development of self-esteem, self-efficacy, and the reinforcement of social support to help students improve their achievement

The Role of Aggressive Peer Norms in Elementary School Children\u2019s Perceptions of Classroom Peer Climate and School Adjustment

Although prior research has indicated that peer norms for aggression enhance the spread of aggression in classrooms, it is unclear to date how these norms relate to students’ classroom climate perceptions and school adjustment. Aggressive descriptive norms reflect the average aggression of all students in classrooms, whereas aggressive popularity norms represent the extent to which aggressive behavior relates to popularity among peers. This study examined the role of aggressive descriptive and popularity norms in the classroom climate perceptions (cooperation, conflict, cohesion, isolation) and school adjustment (feelings of belonging; social, academic, and general self-esteem) of popular, well-liked, and victimized children. Self-reported and peer-nominated data were obtained from 1511 children (Mage = 10.60 years, SD = 0.50; 47.2% girls) from 58 fifth-grade classrooms. The results indicated that aggressive descriptive and popularity norms both matter in elementary school, but in diverging ways. Specifically, aggressive descriptive norms—rather than popularity norms—contributed to negative classroom climate perceptions irrespective of students’ social position. In addition, whereas descriptive norms contributed to between-classroom variations in some aspects of school adjustment, aggressive popularity norms related to increased school maladjustment for popular and victimized children specifically. Thus, aggressive descriptive norms and popularity norms matter in complementary ways for children’s classroom climate perceptions and adjustment in elementary education.

Retrospective Reports of Perceived ‘Guan’ Parenting: Relationships to Adult Attachment Styles, Emotion Regulation, and Self-Esteem

To determine how parental guan is related to social-emotional development in adulthood and how demographic controls might influence the prediction of parental guan on social-emotional development, 176 adults completed a series of questionnaires. We expected that both maternal and paternal guan would be positively related to secure attachment in adulthood, emotion regulation, self-esteem, and social self-esteem, but negatively related to avoidance and anxious attachment in adulthood. Pearson correlations largely supported these expectations. Moreover, the results of hierarchical regression analyses indicated that paternal guan was positively related to self-esteem but negatively related to anxious attachment in adulthood. Maternal guan, on the other hand, significantly predicted emotion regulation. Both maternal and paternal guan were significantly related to secure adult attachment and social self-esteem. Age, gender, and family structure contributed additional variance in some variables. We discuss our results in terms of the protective role of guan parenting in a child’s life.

학교 밖 청소년의 사회적 낙인감과 자아존중감의 종단적 인과관계 검증: 자기회귀 교차지연 모형의 적용

본 연구의 목적은 학교 밖 청소년의 사회적 낙인감과 자아존중감이 시간의 흐름에 따라 어떻게 변화하고 상호작용 하는지를 살펴보고 사회적 낙인감과 자아존중감의 종단적 관계를 규명하는데 있다. 이를 위하여 한국청소년정책연구원에서 수행한 학업중단 청소년 패널조사의 3개년 자료인 3차년도, 4차년도, 5차년도의 종단자료를 자기회귀 교차지연 모형을 적용하여 분석하였다. 연구목적을 수행하기위하여 분석에 사용한 변인은 학교 밖 청소년의 사회적 낙인감과 자아존중감이며 이들 변인들의 변화과정과 상호관계를 종단적으로 분석하였다. 분석한 결과 첫째, 학교 밖 청소년이 지각하는 사회적 낙인감과 자아존중감의 자기회귀 효과는 시간의 흐름에 따라 지속적으로 영향을 미치고 있었다. 둘째, 학교 밖 청소년의 사회적 낙인감이 자아존중감에 미치는 교차지연 효과는 지속적으로 유의한 부적 영향을 미치고 있었다. 셋째, 학교 밖 청소년의 자아존중감이 사회적 낙인감에 미치는 교차지연효과는 지속적으로 유의한 부적 영향을 미치고 있었다. 이는 학교 밖 청소년이 지각하는 사회적 낙인감과 자아존중감은 시간의 흐름에 따라 지속적으로 상호간에 부정적인 영향을 미치며 유지되는 요인임을 보여준다. 이러한 연구 결과를 통해 학교 밖 청소년의 자아존중감을 위하여 사회적 낙인으로부터 학교 밖 청소년을 보호하는 방안을 모색해야 함을 제안한다. 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구가 갖는 시사점과 제한점 등을 논의하였다.

Noncognitive Factors Affecting Academic Achievement of Juvenile Delinquents

The present study provides a description and analysis of the plight of first-time detained juvenile delinquents in the United States and the impact of noncognitive attributes and academic achievement on grades. Juvenile delinquents have poor outcomes as adults in higher rates of drug abuse, poor high school graduation rates, and lowered employment well into adulthood. The research questions examined the correlation among the noncognitive attributes of grit, academic self-concept, mental health, and self-esteem, academic achievement, and English and Mathematics grades for first-time detained juvenile delinquents aged 10-18. A multiple regression analysis of archival records of students in a short-term juvenile detention center was conducted. Findings showed three predictor variables were statistically significant and influenced academic performance measured by grades: verbal ability, social self-esteem, and prosocial skills. For juvenile delinquents (n = 72; males = 58, females = 14) aged 10-18 (M =15.3; SD = 1.6; range 10-18), the three predictor variables predicted English grades (adjusted R2 = .280) and Mathematics grades (adjusted R2 = .225). There was a discussion and recommendations for policies and research. The results support the need to consider noncognitive factors and the consideration of communication skills in the education of juvenile delinquents.

초등학교 축구선수들의 칭찬 프로그램 효과 검증

본 연구의 목적은 초등학교 축구선수들의 내적 성장에 도움이 되는 칭찬 프로그램을 구성· 적용한 후, 그 효과를 검증하는 것이다. 본 연구대상자는 초등학교 축구선수 28명으로 선정하였다. 본 연구대상자들은 선행연구, 전문가 회의를 통해 개발된 칭찬 프로그램을 적용하였다. 연구대상자들은 사전시기와 사후시기 자아존중감 검사지, 대인관계 검사지를 실시하였다. 본 연구에서 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 8주간 실시된 칭찬프로그램은 자아존중감에는 긍정적인 영향을 미치지는 못했다. 둘째, 8주간 실시된 칭찬프로그램 대인관계에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 미래연구에서는 초등학교 축구 선수들의 성장을 위한 다양한 프로그램 개발·적용 연구가 요구되며, 장기적으로 효과를 검증할 필요성이 있다.

SELF-ESTEEM OF STUDENTS RAISED BY SINGLE MOTHERS AT MTsN 3 AGAM

This research is motivated by an incident that occurred in MTs Negeri 3 Agam students where students were faced with a single mother's family condition, they tended not to accept the situation that occurred to their family which was shown by an attitude like feeling jealous of their friends who had a complete family. This study aims to describe the self-esteem of students raised by single parent mothers at MTs Negeri 3 Agam based on aspects of general self-esteem, social self-esteem and personal self-esteem. The method used in this research is quantitative method with descriptive type. The subjects in this study were students who were raised by single parent mothers at MTs Negeri 3 Agam, totaling 86 students registered in the 2020/2021 academic year. Data collection techniques used a questionnaire with a Likert scale model and to analyze data using a percentage formula. The research findings reveal that (1) the self-esteem of students raised by single parent mothers at MTs Negeri 3 Agam as a whole is in the medium category with a percentage of 43.02%, (2) students' self-esteem seen from the general self-esteem aspect is at medium category with a percentage of 40.70%, (3) students 'self-esteem seen from the social self-esteem aspect is in the medium category with a percentage of 38.37%, (4) students' self-esteem seen from the personal self-esteem aspect is at medium category with a percentage of 34.88%.

The Relationship between Learning Motivation and Demographic, Socio-Emotional Aspects among Arab Minority Preservice Teachers in Israel

Learning motivation means driving influences from internal (intrinsic) or external (extrinsic) forces that give learners power to learn effectively, implicating processes of learning engagement. This study examines the differences in learning motivation levels among preservice teachers in the Arab minority in Israel according to demographic and socio-emotional aspects, and the relationships between level of learning motivation and various socio-emotional characteristics. 543 Arab minority students of education (with different majors) were chosen by means of random cluster sampling, and were asked to fill out questionnaires. The findings indicated significant differences in the level of the students' learning motivation for only two demographic variables: study program and specialization. Significant negative relationships were found between learning motivation and depression and social anxiety, and significant positive relationships were found between learning motivation and perceived social and family support and self-esteem. Multiple regression results revealed that the most significant factors that explained the variance of learning motivation among Arab minority preservice teachers were perceived social and family support (13.5%), followed by social anxiety (1.9%), and self-esteem (1.1%). These findings contribute to the understanding of the nature of the relationship between learning motivation and other demographic and socio-emotional aspects of preservice teachers from Israeli Arab society.
