Research on the Path of Cultivating College Students' Values Through Chinese Poetry Culture

Chinese poetry has rich cultural connotations and plays a role in moral cultivation education, struggle spirit education, and patriotism education. However, at present, the cultivation of values among college students through Chinese poetry still faces challenges such as limited dissemination of Chinese poetry in university classrooms, insufficient campus cultural atmosphere, insufficient social practice activities, and weakening in online trends. To cultivate values among college students through Chinese poetry culture, it is necessary to optimize classroom teaching, construct educational carriers, shape "campus culture", enrich social practice, leverage online classrooms, and build a new situation of multi-faceted and interconnected education.

Research on the Types and Influencing Factors of English Learning Motivation among English Major Undergraduates: A Case Study of Third-Year Students at a University in East China

English learning motivation significantly impacts learning efficiency. This study empirically investigates the learning motivations of 41 third-year English major students through a questionnaire survey conducted at a university in East China. The findings reveal that the learning motivations of English major undergraduates can be categorized into four types: personal interests, future development, experiential background, and social responsibility. Core factors influencing the types of learning motivation include students' personal cultural interests and their academic and career planning. Additionally, learning motivation is influenced by learning experiences, family environments, and social contexts. This research suggests that university English teachers should adopt a student-centered approach to tailor their teaching methods, thereby assisting students in establishing long-term, profound learning motivations. Furthermore, it encourages universities to implement social practice activities aimed at promoting intercultural communication.

(Re-)shaping learning experiences in supply chain management and logistics education under disruptive uncertain situations

IntroductionDisruptive uncertain events often necessitate universities to abruptly shift from face-to-face to remote online learning, posing challenges to instructional quality and learning outcomes. Remote online instruction may lack social interaction, educational resources, and practical activities, hindering effective learning.MethodsThis study presents an experiential learning framework designed to foster active learning experiences amidst disruptive uncertain events. The framework incorporates such events as study situations to enhance student motivation and engagement. A methodology for designing learning experiences is proposed, with a focus on incorporating real-world disruptions into educational settings.ResultsA case study is presented, detailing the implementation of the framework in supply chain management and logistics education at a private university in Bolivia, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Results indicate that the novel learning experience positively impacted student motivation and engagement, facilitating the achievement of learning outcomes.DiscussionThe initial implementation suggests that the novel learning experience positively impacted student motivation and engagement while achieving their intended learning outcomes. However, further instances of utilizing the proposed framework are necessary to ascertain its generalizability and effectiveness across diverse contexts and situations. Identifying similarities or invariances will help validate the applicability of this approach in different educational settings affected by disruptive uncertain events.

Research on objective evaluation methods of labor education teaching for college students in higher education

Abstract Labor education in colleges and universities in the new era is the fundamental task of implementing the principle of establishing morality and educating people, as well as an essential hand in cultivating college students with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physicality, aesthetics, and labor. This paper focuses on the objective evaluation method of college students’ labor education to conduct research. Using the improved binary tree support vector machine multi-class classification algorithm, an evaluation model for college labor education based on a binary tree support vector machine has been constructed, and an evaluation system for labor education has been developed. The results show that the majors that have compulsory labor education courses, elective labor education courses, and have added labor education modules in their major courses are all art and sports, accounting for more than 50% on average. The percentages of liberal arts, science, economics and management, art and sports, medicine and science, and agriculture, which did not offer labor education-related courses, were 26.35%, 22.16%, 19.91%, 13.59%, 11.03%, and 13.19%, respectively. It is evident that labor education courses are not distributed equally in colleges and universities, and there are still some majors that do not offer labor education courses. In terms of labor education, most of the labor education through Civics and Political Science classes is provided to students. Managers are those who choose the most specialized courses. Students also tend to participate in bicultural education and social practice activities, accounting for 29.02% and 43.01%, respectively. It shows that the algorithm in this paper can objectively and effectively evaluate labor education in colleges and universities and identify the deficiencies in education.

A Study on the Enrollment Education of College Freshmen and the Ideological and Political Education Strategies of Counselors

With the continuous expansion of university enrollment, the entrance education of freshmen has become an important part of education management. This paper focuses on the entrance education of freshmen and the ideological education strategy of counselors, aiming at discussing how to better guide students to adapt to the new learning and living environment and cultivate their positive ideological quality and social responsibility. First of all, through the in-depth analysis of the characteristics and needs of freshmen, we realize that freshmen face many challenges, including academic pressure, interpersonal relationship, career planning and so on. Secondly, this paper discusses in detail the responsibilities and tasks that counselors should undertake in the entrance education of freshmen. Specific ideological education strategies are put forward from organizing thematic lectures and symposiums, guiding students to participate in social practice and volunteer activities, paying attention to students' mental health, and establishing community and communication platforms. Finally, this paper emphasizes that ideological education is a long-term and continuous process, which requires counselors to constantly adjust their strategies to adapt to the development and changes of students. At the same time, interdisciplinary cooperation and the connection with social resources, as well as the comprehensive use of online and offline multi-means are also important ways to improve the effect of ideological education.

The integration of the three typical narrative types enables the important discourses on the history of the CPC to contain profound philosophical speculation, heavy historical connotation, and aesthetic and literary conception. The value and significance of exploring the narrative types of Xi Jinping’s important discourses on the history of the CPC lie in continuously strengthening the study of Marxist classic works and promoting the Sinicization of Marxism, improving the Party history narrators’ theoretical attainment and excellent traditional Chinese cultural literacy, actively participating in various forms of social practice activities, accumulating socialized discourse materials through close contact with people from different social classes, and enriching the “corpus” of discourses of the history of the CPC, thus making the narratives deeper and more concrete.

Cognition of the warning symptoms and risk factors for cancer among Chinese college students: a cross-sectional study based on a summer social practice activity

Background To investigate the cognition of cancer warning symptoms and cancer risk factors among Chinese college students, analyze the influencing factors, and explain the correlations between cancer cognition and cancer symptom discrimination, cancer fear and psychological distress. Methods Chinese college students were recruited in this cross-sectional study funded by a summer social practice activity in Yunnan Province, China. Cognition rates of cancer warning symptoms and cancer risk factors were evaluated using Cancer Warning symptoms Cognition Questionnaire (CWSCQ) and Cancer Risk Factors Cognition Questionnaire (CRFCQ), respectively. Factors associated with cognition of cancer warning symptoms, and factors associated with cognition of cancer risk factors were evaluated using multiple linear regression analysis. Interactions between cancer cognition, cancer symptom discrimination, psychological distress, and cancer fear were evaluated by structural equation modeling. Results There were 846 effective samples, with an effective rate of 80.9%. The cognition rates of cancer warning symptoms were from 47.9% to 84.4%, which were affected by cancer symptom discrimination, education, attitudes towards cancer screening, living expenses, drinking history, and ways to obtain cancer knowledge (p < 0.05). The cognition rates of cancer risk factors were from 46.3% to 91.3% in participants, which were affected by education, cancer symptom discrimination, psychological distress, attitudes towards cancer screening, life satisfaction, cancer history in relatives and friends, ways to obtain cancer knowledge, smoking history, and nursing history for cancer patients (p < 0.05). Cancer cognition and cancer symptom discrimination showed intermediary effects on psychological distress and cancer fear (p < 0.001). Conclusions The overall cancer cognition situation among Chinese college students is not optimistic, which highlights the necessity of improving the cancer health literacy among Chinese college students. With the increasing morbidity and mortality rates of cancer, it is necessary to raise awareness of early detection, and early treatment of cancer among the general public. Health education interventions are helpful to improve cancer health literacy.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MODEL TO ENHANCE STUDENT TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP SKILLS FOR APPLICATION-ORIENTED UNIVERSITIES IN SHANXI PROVINCE, CHINA

In this research, the primary purpose was to create a model for developing transformational leadership skills for application-oriented university students in Shanxi, China. The aim was to help college students smoothly enter society and have better career prospects. This study utilized qualitative and quantitative methods, conducting content analysis on ideal AOUs student transformational leadership skills, which include a sense of responsibility, self-dedication, vision, teamwork, innovation, problem-solving skills, communication, and listening. The results of the content analysis were validated by five experts. The study also collected 1,002 survey questionnaires from AOUs students in Shanxi, China.&#x0D; The study found that five leadership activities influenced the level of transformational leadership skills: participation in leadership workshops, students’ councils, student clubs, volunteer activities, and social practice activities. Additionally, the study highlighted the similarities between Chinese Confucian thought and Western transformational leadership theory. The four philosophical ideas of Confucianism were found to be applicable in understanding Western leadership theories and guiding students' participation in related activities. The recommendations emphasize the prioritization of transformational leadership skills by stakeholders, recognizing their broad utility and crucial role in students' future success.

The factors influencing university students’ participation in social welfare activities

Social public welfare practice is an important way to realize the goal of practical education in colleges and universities. Through a survey of 439 university students in Beijing, the results in this study showed that university students’ intention to participate in social public welfare practice was influenced by perceived value, behavioral attitude, and perceived behavioral control, and was not affected by subjective norms. Behavioral attitude and perceived behavioral control played a mediating role between perceived value and intention to participate. These findings extend the research perspective to the field of social welfare and have the potential to promote the development of social welfare practice activities for university students.

Analysis on the Current Situation of College Students' Cognition of Red Culture Countermeasures and Suggestions

As the spiritual bond of the Chinese nation, red culture has profound historical connotation and rich value of The Times. It is a precious spiritual wealth worth inheriting, excavating and developing, and it is also an important educational resource for colleges and universities. In order to further understand the status quo of college students' cognition of red culture, the author designed a questionnaire and carried out an online survey for college students in 12 prefecture-level cities in Jiangsu Province through the Internet. The research results and analysis show that the understanding of red culture still needs to be improved, and the emotional identity of red culture is not strong enough; the action recognition of red culture needs to be strengthened, the coverage of relevant social practice activities needs to be expanded, especially the form of field learning and experience needs to be further explored; the channel of red culture is relatively simple, the integration of classroom teaching is insufficient, and there are gaps between different majors. To better spread red culture among college students, we should further explore the connotation and value of red culture, take the initiative to close to the actual needs of college students, deepen the integration of the whole subject, integrate the advantages of new media platform, and pay attention to practical experience learning.

A Comparison of the English Subtitles of The Wandering Earth Series from the Perspective of Sociological Translation Studies

As a social practice activity affected by many social and cultural factors, the subjective initiative of social roles, accumulated capital and habits will affect the dissemination of translation products. In 1972, Holmes proposed to promote function-oriented descriptive translation research, and explore the phenomenon of translation within the framework of sociology. Sociological translation studies construct a system based on the core three elements of Bourdieu's sociological theorycapital, field, and habit, and explore the different roles played by actors in social practice. The popularity of the 2019 and 2023 Spring Festival movie series The Wandering Earth had aroused peoples attention to Chinese science fiction movies. This movie series is based on the short novel of the same name published in 2000 by Liu Cixin, a new generation of Chinese science fiction novelists. The films were translated into English and released in overseas theaters. This article will take the subtitle translation of the series as the starting point from the perspective of sociological translation studies, take culture and market as the two general directions, and explore the changes and reasons for the subtitle translation of The Wandering Earth I and II. This study finds that the subtitle quality of the Wandering Earth series of movies has improved significantly. The change is mainly related to China's cultural self-confidence, cultural export policy support and market attraction in recent years. The sociological perspective of this study compensates for the theoretical singularity of most subtitle translation studies, and improves the objectivity of the research mechanism, which can promote the diversification of other translation studies. At the same time, it also helps more films improve their own translation quality, achieve a win-win situation of going abroad and achieving commercial value and cultural output.

Influencing factors of sense of responsibility among undergraduate nursing students: A cross-sectional study

BackgroundNursing students are critical in responding to public health emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic. Their ability to fulfill their responsibilities is influenced by their sense of responsibility, which holds profound cultural significance, particularly in traditional Chinese culture. However, limited research has specifically explored the sense of responsibility among undergraduate nursing students in China and globally. ObjectivesThis study aimed to determine the sense of responsibility among undergraduate nursing students and identify potential factors associated with it. Design, setting & participantsWe conducted a cross-sectional study and recruited 526 nursing students from June to July 2022 in Guizhou province in southwest China. MethodsParticipants completed the General Information Questionnaire, Sense of Responsibility, and Self-esteem Scale. We analyzed the relationship between a sense of responsibility and self-esteem using Spearman correlation analysis. Then we determined factors that affect undergraduate nursing students' sense of responsibility using multiple linear stepwise regression. ResultsNursing students' total sense of responsibility scores were 96(84,106). The study found a positive association between self-esteem and a sense of responsibility (r = 0.433, P < 0.001) and its four dimensions: altruism (r = 0.381, P < 0.001), self-control (r = 0.378, P < 0.001), courage (r = 0.300, p < 0.001), and commitment (r = 0.361, P < 0.001). Self-esteem (β = 1.532, p < 0.001), personality (extroverted personality β = 7.263, P < 0.001; neutral personality β = 3.221, P = 0.029), and social practice experience (β = −3.156, P = 0.010) significantly influenced undergraduate nursing students' sense of responsibility (R2 = 0.268, F = 17.065, P < 0.001). ConclusionsThe study highlights the importance of nursing students' sense of responsibility and suggests room for improvement in its level. Higher self-esteem was associated with a stronger sense of responsibility. Additionally, self-esteem, personality, and social practice experience emerged as significant influencing factors. Nursing educators should prioritize students' sense of responsibility and explore targeted interventions, such as social practice activities, particularly for students with low self-esteem and introversion.

Xi Jinping stressed in his speech that China's economic and social development has entered a high-quality development stage of accelerated greening and decarbonisation, and the construction of an ecological civilisation is still in a critical period of overlapping pressures and heavy loads. At present, it is necessary to plan and promote the work of ecological environmental protection in the new journey with a higher standpoint, a wider vision, and greater strength, and write a new chapter of ecological civilisation construction in the new era. This paper is based on the ecological civilisation era background, through the Beautiful China Practice Group in Bengbu City, Anhui Province, Longhu Jiayuan summer social practice activities, to further understand the city community residents living environment and environmental protection and energy saving cognitive status quo. And on this basis, the use of questionnaire survey method, literature research method, network survey method on the residents' cognitive status quo to carry out motivation analysis and related comments, and finally, according to the results of the research on China's future to strengthen the construction of ecological civilisation in the urban community and build a civilised society to provide some suggestions and prospects.

Media Use and Child Development

Social work practice with children and families is one of the largest specialization areas in the profession. To prepare students for this area of practice, social work programs often offer several courses focused on child, adolescent, and family well-being. Technology-related topics, however, such as the role of child and family media use on children’s developmental outcomes, are underrepresented in social work curricula, courses, and textbooks focusing on children and families. To highlight the importance of this content, our teaching note synthesizes evidence on the impact of two forms of media (television viewing and smartphone use) on children’s self-regulation and parent-child interactions. Although we focus on only two forms of media, our research synthesis links media use to emergent issues influencing child development and family functioning—content highly applicable to direct and indirect social work practice activities with children and families. We further draw upon our translational findings to advance social work education and practice by offering low- and high-effort strategies to embed this content in child and family social work courses. We conclude with implications and future directions for social work educators, practitioners, and leaders that describe opportunities to prepare students for a technology-driven future and to use technology strategically to fulfill our profession’s mission and values.

Subjectivity of Discourse from the Philosophic Perspective

&#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; Language not only objectively expresses the thought of a proposition but also indicates the speaker’s emotion, attitude, and viewpoints toward a proposition, which is called subjectivity in the study. Subjectivity is one of the main topics in philosophy. However, the phenomenon of subjectivity is mainly discussed at the word, construction, or syntactic level from the perspective of linguistics. To better the characteristics of speakers as subjects in social practice activities and cognitive activities, an analytical framework of subjectivity in discourse from the perspective of philosophy was constructed to investigate subjectivity at the discourse level. Three aspects, that is, experience, mental and communicative models, were explored. The results show that (1) the constructed analytical framework clearly shows the social characteristics of subjectivity in discourse; (2) the experience model is divided into the speaker’s social and cultural experience; (3) the mental model is construed as the speaker’s mental cognition, reflected by the speaker’s mental stance and emotion; (4) the communicative model is represented by the speaker’s communicative intention and communicative practice, including appeal, command and announcement. The study provides an analytical framework to dig up the subjective nature of language and the relationship among speakers, society and discourse. This study also enriches the research on subjectivity and discourse analysis.&#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D;
