ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AND SCHOOL BEHAVIORS OF GRADE 7 OVERSEAS FILIPINO WORKERS’ CHILDREN IN TAGUDIN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

This study aimed to assess the academic performance and school behavior of the children of Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) enrolled at Tagudin National High School during the school year, 2022-2023. Specifically, it sought to answer the following: 1. What is the profile of the learners along a. Sex; b. Medium of communicating with parents; and c. Frequency of communicating with parents? 2. What is the level of academic performance of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) children? 3. What is the level of school behavior of Grade 7 OFW children along Hyperactive, Withdrawn, Poor attention/Concentration, Aggressive, Uncooperative, Disruptive, Manipulative, and Inappropriate Social Behavior; 4. Is there a significant relationship between the profile of the OFW children and the level of academic performance? 5. Is there a significant relationship between the level of performance of the OFW parents and children's level of school behavior 6. What plan can be proposed to improve the behavior of learners? 7. What is the level of acceptability of the action plan? The researcher used a descriptive correlational research design. The Grade 7 OFW children of will be the respondents. The study was conducted among the 91 OFW children enrolled at Tagudin National High School during the school year 2022- 2023. A total enumeration of the children of OFW enrolled were used as respondents. Based from the salient findings, the following conclusions are draw: 1. The respondents have distinct profiles from one another and no two individuals are exactly alike; 2. Classroom behaviors of the OFW children differ from one another but they execute favorable and unfavorable behaviors inside the class; 3. Sex affects the disruptive and uncooperative school behaviors of the OFW children of TNHS; 4. An action plan is a helpful material that contains strategies to improve the school behaviors of the TNHS OFW children; and 5. The developed action plan is simplified and down to earth but carries solutions to gauged problems of OFW children. From the findings and conclusions drawn, the following recommendations are hereby offered: 1. It is suggested that OFW children should be given more kindness and understanding as to their unfavorable behaviors yet they should establish a closer bonding with their OFW parents through the help of the social media's chat or messenger; 2. Misdemeanors conducted inside the class should be immediately settled by the teacher or guidance counselor with the guardian but teachers should possess many strategies to address issues and concerns like poor attention and low academic performance; 3. It is suggested that male students should be given roles inside the classroom to feel their importance and to deviate from untoward behaviors; 4. The action plan developed for the purpose of helping the OFW children focus their attention to their studies should be brought to the principal's office and when found worthwhile, be endorsed to all teachers of TNHS for their benchmark of their own classroom action plan; and 5. The action plan is timely and appropriate and it is a nice material to be used as benchmark to improve the school behaviors of OFW children.

Bach in Italy, 22–28 November 2020 Chiara Bertoglio The international conference “Bach and Italy” took place in a digital format from 22 to 28 November 2020. It was co-organized by the Association JSBach.it, founded by Maria Borghesi and myself, by the Conservatory “G. Verdi” of Turin, and by the Istituto per i Beni Musicali in Piemonte, a research institution for the promotion of the musical heritage of Piedmont. The conference committee included Kenneth L. Hamilton (Cardiff University), Michael Heinemann (Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber, Dresden), Stefano Leoni (Conservatory “G.Verdi” of Turin), Michael Maul (Bach Festival and Bach-Archiv Leipzig), Ruth Tatlow (Uppsala University and Bach Network), and Yo Tomita (Queen’s University Belfast and Bach Network), along with Maria Borghesi and myself, representing JSBach.it. The Covid-19 situation led us to consider various options for restructuring an event that had originally been planned in a traditional form. After much pondering, we decided to broadcast the conference on our social media channels, to make it available at no charge, and to maintain an archive of all videos, which will constitute a repository of research, knowledge, and music for all those interested in Bach. Moreover, we decided to extend the conference’s duration from the initial three days to an entire week, in order for the sessions and other events to be more temporally distanced, and thus to allow the audience more time to enjoy the rich program. The result exceeded our expectations in many respects. The artistic and scholarly level of the presentations, roundtables, keynotes, and concerts was very high. Moreover, following the presentations in each session, debate was encouraged by the chairs, and it involved both the session’s speakers (who were virtually gathered in a “room” provided by a videoconference platform) and the audience following the session on social media. Listeners were invited to interact by writing their questions and comments in the social media chat, and this resulted in long and fruitful discussions, frequently longer than one hour. Thus, one of the most important aspects of scholarly gatherings, that is, the discussion and interaction, was not sacrificed due to the need for social distancing. Another unexpected result was that speakers, audience, and [End Page 72] organizers alike distinctly felt a strong “human” component, in spite of the undeniable lack of proximity, and the feedback we received was uniformly enthusiastic. The conference began in the evening of 22 November with an opening ceremony, during which Maria Borghesi and myself briefly discussed the two main currents of research concerning “Bach and Italy,” that is, the inspiration Italy provided to Bach and the Italian reception of his music and figure. Our speeches were framed by excerpts from Bruno Giuranna’s transcription of the Goldberg Variations for string trio, performed by the young musicians of the Trio Quodlibet. The ceremony was filmed in one of the most breathtaking baroque palaces of Piedmont, the Reggia di Venaria Reale. On Monday, 23 November, the day opened with a special episode of “Un caffè con JSBach.it,” a video podcast series started by JSBach.it during the spring lockdown. The day’s guest was Kenneth L. Hamilton, who was interviewed about Liszt’s reception of Bach and who beautifully played Liszt’s version of Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen BWV 12. In the afternoon, the first session, conducted in Italian and chaired by Annarita Colturato (University of Turin), was dedicated to Bach’s reception of Italy and included presentations about Bach and the seconda prattica (Enrico Baiano, who presented a lecture-recital at the harpsichord), the origins of the Harpsichord Concerto No. 1 in D Minor BWV 1052 (Fabrizio Ammetto), and a lecture-recital on Bach and Vivaldi (Giorgio Dellarole). The following session, chaired by Valentina Bensi, included a presentation by Beatrice Birardi focusing on Bach’s music in fascist radio broadcasts, and one by Francesco Leprino on a documentary film he created on Bach’s Die Kunst der Fuge. The day closed with a fascinating keynote speech by Michael Maul, who has investigated Bach’s interest in Italian music throughout his creative life, arguing that “Herr Bach” was also, in part, a “Signor Bach.” The following...

The Impact of COVID -19 Pandemic on Hospitality (Tourism& HotelSector) and Mitigation Mechanism in Ethiopia review

The tourism industry is one of the sectors that would be greatly affected by COVID-19 pandemic. Data for the review was generated from desk review of secondary materials, online blogs and interview through social media chat. Findings of the review reveal that the outbreak of pandemic disease led to rapid shutdowns in cities and states across the country, which greatly affected the hospitality industry. This pandemic showed the rapid negative impact on the country tourism and hotel industry. The findings of the review reveal that COVID-19 has increased cancellations of hotels and travel bookings resulted in revenue loss and unemployment situations, resulting loss of substantial revenue to the government and increasing incidence of poverty among others. The review recommends that provision of alternative service and diversification of service and product and compensation to business operators in the sector to return back to normal operations.

An Appraisal of the Potential Impacts of Covid-19 on Tourism in Nigeria

The outbreak and spread of covid-19 disease has resulted in countries of the world placing travel restrictions and closure of their borders to movements to and from other countries. The tourism industry is one of the sectors that would be greatly affected. Data for the study was generated from desk review of secondary materials, online blogs and interview through social media chat. Findings of the study reveal that the outbreak and spread of covid-19 disease led to rapid shutdowns in cities and states across the country, which greatly affected the tourism industry. Industries in the tourism sector such as airlines, hotels, entertainment and hospitality industries are facing declining demand and patronage with travel crashes and cancellations expected to continue. The increased cancellations of hotels and travel bookings resulted in billions of dollars in revenue loss and hundreds of thousands of job loss in the country. The findings of the study reveal that covid-19 is already worsening the unemployment situations in the country, resulting in loss of substantial revenue to the government, increasing incidence of poverty among others. Based on the findings, the study recommends the need for diversification priorities to alternative sectors such as tourism and agriculture and compensation to business operators in the tourism and other critical sector.

Novel Corona Virus Covid-19: Impact on Economic Development and Mitigating Solution for Developing Countries

The outbreak of coronavirus named COVID-19 has disrupted the developing countries economy highly. According to World Health Organization (WHO) there have been 4,660,658 confirmed cases of COVID 19, including 309,710 death till May 16, 2020 globally. And 78,280 Confirmed cases and 2,624 Number of deaths in Africa. Data for the study was generated from desk review of secondary materials, online blogs and interview through social media chat. Findings of the study reveal that the outbreak and spread of covid-19 disease led to rapid shutdowns in cities and states across the country, which greatly affected the economic development. The evolution of the disease and its economic impact is highly uncertain which makes it difficult for policymakers to formulate an appropriate macroeconomic policy response. The article describes the impact of the COVID-19 virus on the economic development of developing countries and its mitigating solution. The scenarios in this paper demonstrate that even a contained outbreak could significantly impact the developing countries economy in the short run. These scenarios demonstrate the scale of costs that might be avoided by greater investment in public health systems in all economies but particularly in less developed economies where health care systems are less developed and population density is high. Among the suggested policy solutions are: proactive management approaches, health policy framework addressing many of the social determinants of health, education and health literacy, national and international shifts in investments, public and private partnerships and the establishment of the Developing countries Technical Council on Coronavirus. Effective implementation of these policy solutions will require full support of all stakeholders, including governments, the media, non- governmental organizations, health professionals, communities, and individuals.
