Force calculations in the drop forging of porous powder preforms on crank presses

Analytical dependences were obtained for calculating the specific deformation force during drop forging porous powder preforms, with consideration of the dimensions and initial density of billets. These permit construction of a graph of the operational slide bar load of a crank press for a given case of forging. These are principal aspects in planning calculations for equipment and for development of the technical process of drop forging porous billets. A check of the dependences obtained by comparison with experiment indicated adequately good agreement between calculated and experimental data.

Effect of Length of Movement on Linear Arm-Positioning by Children

15 boys in each of three age groups were tested for ability to reproduce learned linear arm-positioning movements using a slide bar. Movements of 10, 20, and 40 cm were learned without the aid of vision by moving the slide to a stop, then repeated from the same starting position without the stop in place. Analysis of variance yielded a significant main effect of length of movement for both absolute and constant error and also a significant interaction between age and length of movement. The discussion offers explanations based on information-processing capacity and patterns of child development.

This invention is directed to a position indicator which is mounted along one margin of a set of strings of a musical instrument and includes a set of projections so arranged that, when engaged by a slide bar placed across the strings, a preselected chord may be produced, the projections being deflectable so that the slide bar may be moved along the strings past a projection while maintaining contact with the strings.
