Aperiodic 2022, the 10th International Conference on Aperiodic Crystals, was held as a hybrid type conference on June 20-24, 2022, in Akira Suzuki Hall of Sapporo campus at Hokkaido University, Japan. Aperiodic 2022 is the latest in a series of conferences supported by the Commission on Aperiodic Crystals (CAC) of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr). These conferences were held essentially every three years, with the most recent meetings in Ames Iowa (the USA, 2018), Prague (Czech Republic, 2015), Cairns (Australia, 2012), Liverpool (UK, 2009), Zao (Japan, 2006), Belo Horizonte (Brazil, 2003) and Nijmegen (The Netherlands, 2000). Aperiodic 2022 was the second of this series held in Japan. The Aperiodic conference series is itself the successor to a series of Conferences on Modulated Structures, Polytypes and Quasicrystals (MOSPOQ), which were held in Marseilles (France, 1984), Wroclaw (Poland, 1986), Varanasi (India, 1988) and Balatonszeplak (Hungary, 1991). This time, Aperiodic 2022 was held under the auspices of Hypermaterials project, running in Japan since 2019 for 5 years, that includes studies of quasicrystals, approximants and incommensurate structures (https://www.rs.tus.ac.jp/hypermaterials/en/index.html).Although under difficult circumstances, with the COVID19 pandemic was not yet fully contained, Aperiodic 2022 attracted 114 participants from 16 countries (37 onsite and 77 online). A particular feature of the Aperiodic Conference series is its interdisciplinary character. The range of disciplines of participants included mathematics, physics, crystallography and materials science. The program, which ran from Monday morning until Friday afternoon, was scheduled by considering the time difference between Japan and Europe. It comprised 14 invited and 36 contributed talks, and 36 posters (10 onsite). The Student Award for Outstanding Oral Presentation at the 10th International Conference on Aperiodic Crystals was given to Chiara Moretti (ENS de Lyon, France) for her presentation Self-assembly of nanoparticles: from periodic superlattices to quasicrystal phase. The prize came with a cash prize of 30,000 JPY with honorable certificate. It was not possible to organize Aperiodic 2022 without help and support of many people. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all the member of Local Organizing Committee, Program Committee, Commission on Aperiodic Crystals of IUCr and Hypermaterials Project, we would also like to extend our special thanks to the reviewers for their help in the paper view process. Last but not least, we would like to thank all the participants, onsite or online, for their beautiful presentations and exciting discussions. Aperiodic 2022 was supported by JSPS KAKENHI Grant Number JP19H05817.Hiroyuki Takakura and Ryuji TamuraList of Organizing Committees are available in this Pdf.
