Health is a blessing that is very important for humans, most of us, many of us don't really care about skin diseases caused by fungi such as tinea versicolor, water fleas, ringworm and scabies. In general, people are quite aware of how to deal with the symptoms of skin diseases suffered. But it would be better to include medical participation in detecting a disease symptom, because many disease symptoms are considered trivial by some people but can be fatal to human skin. So it is necessary to make an application based on medical knowledge to diagnose skin diseases in humans which is used as a tool in obtaining information about skin diseases in humans and provide recommendations as the first action that must be taken to repeat skin diseases in humans. The knowledge base is structured in such a way into a database with several tables. Drawing conclusions in this expert system using the forward chaining inference method. The expert system will provide questions to the user in the form of symptoms of several diseases and the user will answer these questions. Until the user will get a solution from the results of the question earlier.

Cutaneous body image in psoriasis: The role of attachment style and alexithymia

The aim of this study was to estimate the contribution of adult attachment style and alexithymia to cutaneous body image in patients with psoriasis while controlling for the confounding effects of disease severity and depressive symptoms. Participants were 107 consecutive patients (60% women) with a diagnosis of plaque-type psoriasis. Cutaneous body dissatisfaction was measured with the Cutaneous Body Image Scale (CBIS) and disease severity with the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI). Depressive symptoms, attachment style and alexithymia were assessed with the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the Attachment Style Questionnaire (ASQ) and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20), respectively. Hierarchical regression analysis showed that, independently from the severity of skin disease and depressive symptoms, patients with an insecure-avoidant attachment style and higher levels of alexithymia reported greater cutaneous body dissatisfaction. Because of the cross-sectional design, the causal relationship between avoidant attachment, alexithymia and cutaneous body image cannot be determined. There was no control group. Clinical assessment of patients with psoriasis should include attachment style and alexithymia among the psychological variables related to cutaneous body dissatisfaction.

Eczema and psoriasis affect up to one in 10 adults and as many as one in five children. These conditions are caused by skin cells not communicating properly, leading to a state known as inflammation, which changes how the skin works. Following recent research advances we have a good understanding of the type of inflammation involved in eczema and psoriasis, and this has led to the development and use of targeted therapies. However, we do not fully understand how targeted and less targeted treatments affect different skin cell types, and the communication between them. Skin cells called keratinocytes that are not functioning normally contribute significantly to the symptoms of many skin diseases. Although it is known that inflammatory signalling can affect these keratinocytes, little is known about the molecular mechanisms involved in this process. Investigations of gene expression in whole tissue biopsy (where skin is removed and tested) provide comprehensive, but very complex, information about skin inflammation. To understand more about keratinocyte biology in skin disease and during treatment, we used computer machine-learning tools and a program called CIBERSORT. This approach helped us to find out more specific, detailed information about keratinocytes in different skin diseases that involve inflammation and has helped reveal the effect of different treatments on keratinocytes. We found that eczema keratinocytes are different to healthy cells even when there is no active disease, and they respond differently to available therapies. We show that treatment with a drug called ciclosporin may treat active eczema but not the underlying condition, whereas targeted treatment using dupilumab (which is injected just under the skin) corrects keratinocyte abnormalities. Emotion Regulation Difficulties and Depression Among Individuals With Dermatological and Body Dysmorphic Concerns.

Existing literature demonstrates strong links between emotion regulation (ER) difficulties and depression. Although high rates of depression are observed among individuals with body dysmorphic disorder and skin disease, little is known about these co-occurring syndromes. To advance our understanding of a vulnerable population, this study examined facets of ER difficulties in relation to depression among adults with skin disease symptoms and body dysmorphic concerns (N = 97). Participants were recruited online and completed self-report measures. The overall hierarchical regression model accounted for 61.6% of the variance in depression. After controlling for anxiety and stress, ER difficulties added 9.9% unique variance. In particular, limited access to ER strategies was the only ER dimension significantly associated with depression. This study integrates divergent literatures and suggests the important role of ER difficulties in depression in this unique sample, thereby highlighting directions for future investigation.

Pruritus as a Distinctive Feature of Type 2 Inflammation.

Pruritus is a common symptom of several skin diseases, both inflammatory and neoplastic. Pruritus might have a tremendous impact on patients’ quality of life and strongly interfere with sleep, social, and work activities. We review the role of type-2 inflammation and immunity in the pathogenesis of chronic pruritic conditions of the skin. Type 2 cytokines, including IL-4, IL-13, thymic stromal lymphopoietin, periostin, IL-31, IL-25, and IL-33 are released by mast cells, innate lymphoid cells 2, keratinocytes, and type 2 T lymphocytes, and are master regulators of chronic itch. These cytokines might act as direct pruritogen on primary sensory neurons (pruriceptors) or alter the sensitivity to other itch mediators Type 2 inflammation- and immunity-dominated skin diseases, including atopic dermatitis, prurigo nodularis, bullous pemphigoid, scabies, parasitic diseases, urticaria, and Sézary syndrome are indeed conditions associated with most severe pruritus. In contrast, in other skin diseases, such as scleroderma, lupus erythematosus, hidradenitis suppurativa, and acne, type 2 inflammation is less represented, and pruritus is milder or variable. Th2 inflammation and immunity evolved to protect against parasites, and thus, the scratching response evoked by pruritus might have developed to alert about the presence and to remove parasites from the skin surface.

Effects of constant light exposure on allergic and irritant contact dermatitis in mice reared under constant light conditions.

Environmental light levels can affect physiological functions, such as general activity, body temperature and metabolism. Irregular lifestyles, such as those involving exposure to light during the night, can exacerbate the clinical symptoms of several inflammatory skin diseases. However, the effects of constant light exposure on immune responses are not fully understood. This study aimed to elucidate the effects of constant light exposure on two major types of skin reactions, allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) and irritant contact dermatitis (ICD). BALB/c mice were kept under constant light conditions or a normal light and dark cycle, and their ACD and ICD responses were assessed after the topical application of 2,4,6-trinitro-1-chlorobenzene and croton oil, respectively, to the ear skin. Interestingly, in both ACD and ICD, the ear-swelling response and local leukocyte infiltration were aggravated by constant exposure to light, which has previously been shown to severely disturb the behavioural rhythms of mice. In ACD, these findings were accompanied by increases in the numbers of degranulated mast cells and eosinophils. These results suggest that constant light exposure intensifies allergic and non-allergic skin inflammation.

Sistem Pakar Diagnosa Penyakit Kulit pada Manusia dengan Metode Dempster Shafer

Skin is the broadest organ in the human body that covers the entire surface of the body and acts as a support for human life. Because of its outermost location, the skin is often attacked by various diseases. This research aims to build an expert system to diagnose 10 types of skin diseases caused by viruses, fungi, bacteria, and parasites based on the knowledge of 3 experts using the Dempster Shafer method to obtain conclusions of skin diseases. Each symptom of skin disease has a value of belief that is used to calculate conclusions in the Dempster Shafer method. Expert system applications that are built can run Android-based smartphones. Testing techniques used in this research are black-box testing, theoretical calculations, system accuracy and MOS (Mean Opinion Score). Comparison of the calculation on the system has been appropriate based on the theoretical calculations. System accuracy testing in 30 sample cases resulted in an accuracy of 90%, but if it was seen as a subsection of expert diagnosis, it resulted in a system accuracy of 92.22%. MOS testing on 30 respondents results in a MOS value of 4.24 from a scale of 5 which shows that the system is proper to use and categorized into a good system.

Pengetahuan Personal Hygiene Berhubungan Dengan Timbulnya Gejala Penyakit Kulit Pada Petugas Pengangkut Sampah

Knowledge of personal hygiene is very important to note by the garbage collector to maintain their life , health and welfare in prevent symptoms of skin diseases. This research to find out the knowledge of the personal hygiene with the symptoms of a skin disease in the garbage collector. This type research is analytic survey on the interview with the cross sectional.The sample as many as 70 officers garbage, located in the Badung Regency. Data were collected by using a questionnaire and statistical analysis by using the Chi Square test. The result from the garbage collector knowledge are about 12,9% have a good knowledge, about 32,8% have an averange knowledge and about 54,3% have a bad knowledge. Respondents with some symptoms as much as 58,6 % and some who were not as symptoms is as much as 41.1 % . Symptoms of skin disease most often happen by the garbage collector were itchy, red stain, redness of the skin , bumps, scaly skin, and peeling skin. Chi Square statistical results P value = 0,000 ɑ (0.05), which means there is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge about personal hygiene with the onset of symptoms of skin diseases in the garbage collector with a moderate level of relationship (CC value = 0.537). The garbage collector should further enhance his knowledge of personal hygiene by given counseling.

Astrocytic STAT3 activation and chronic itch require IP3R1/TRPC-dependent Ca2+ signals in mice

Chronic itch is a debilitating symptom of inflammatory skin diseases, but the underlying mechanism is poorly understood. We have recently demonstrated that astrocytes in the spinal dorsal horn become reactive in models of atopic and contact dermatitis via activation of the transcription factor signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) and critically contribute to chronic itch. In general, STAT3 is transiently activated; however, STAT3 activation in reactive astrocytes of chronic itch model mice persistently occurs via an unknown mechanism. We aimed to determine the mechanisms of persistent activation of astrocytic STAT3 in chronic itch conditions. To determine the factors that are required for persistent activation of astrocytic STAT3, Western blotting and calcium imaging with cultured astrocytes or spinal cord slices were performed. Thereafter, chronic itch model mice were used for genetic and behavioral experiments to confirm the role of the factors determined to mediate persistent STAT3 activation from invitro and exvivo experiments in chronic itch. IP3 receptor type 1 (IP3R1) knockdown in astrocytes suppressed IL-6-induced persistent STAT3 activation and expression of lipocalin-2 (LCN2), an astrocytic STAT3-dependent inflammatory factor that is required for chronic itch. IP3R1-dependent astrocytic Ca2+ responses involved Ca2+ influx through the cation channel transient receptor potential canonical (TRPC), which was required for persistent STAT3 activation evoked by IL-6. IL-6 expression was upregulated in dorsal root ganglion neurons in a mouse model of chronic itch. Dorsal root ganglion neuron-specific IL-6 knockdown, spinal astrocyte-specific IP3R1 knockdown, and pharmacologic spinal TRPC inhibition attenuated LCN2 expression and chronic itch. Our findings suggest that IP3R1/TRPC channel-mediated Ca2+ signals elicited by IL-6 in astrocytes are necessary for persistent STAT3 activation, LCN2 expression, and chronic itch, and they may also provide new targets for therapeutic intervention.

Heavy Metal Contributions on Human Skin Disease near Cement Plant: A Systematic Review

AIM: The aim of this systematic review was to investigate heavy metal roles at skin disease of humans in the cement industrial area.
 METHODS: All research reporting a specific heavy metal, which could be increasing the risk of the disease, cause cement induced to skin. Fourteen selected articles from our inclusion criteria rated using eight quality-appraisal criteria derived from Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology checklist and following preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses methodology.
 RESULTS: We performed a systematic review of published articles between 2009 and 2019 from ten case–control, two cohort, one ecological study, and one cross-sectional study showed the heterogeneity of the study design. The studies are focusing on the relationship between heavy metal and skin disease that appeared in cement plant areas such as dermatitis, skin cancer, eczema, and other allergies. Chromium, nickel, cobalt, zinc, cadmium, mercury may present and play an important role for human skin disease.
 CONCLUSION: Heavy metals have been found in the skin of human living and work around the cement industry. Chromium, cobalt, and nickel are almost certainly present in every case of dermatitis and eczema. Signs and mild symptoms of skin disease include redness, itching, starch, and dryness. Elements such as cadmium, lead, and mercury usually are found in chronic skin disease (psoriasis and skin cancer) on a biologic test. These findings should raise an important concern and recommendation policy for controlling raw materials contains heavy metal in cement industrial areas and proper protection for workers and non-worker.

The Implementation Of An Expert System In Diagnosing Skin Diseases Using The Dempster-Shafer Method

In this study we will describe the types of diseases that often attack the skin. The skin is a very sensitive organ of the body and susceptible to disease. This study uses a dempster-shafer method that is used to diagnose symptoms of skin disease. The dempster-shafer method in this study uses rule based obtained from dermatologists. The results of this study were able to produce an accurate diagnosis of 68.8% using trial sample data. The dempster-shafer method can be applied in the diagnosis of skin diseases.

Effectiveness of a music intervention on pruritus: an open randomized prospective study.

Pruritus is a common symptom in many skin diseases. Music interventions have demonstrated their efficacy in different symptoms or diseases such as pain, depression and anxiety. To evaluate the effects of a music intervention on pruritus. A randomized controlled trial was conducted from November 2018 to April 2019. Fifty inpatients with pruritus intensity ≥3/10 in various chronic skin diseases were randomized in a music group or an emollient group. The primary endpoint was the evolution of pruritus as measured by the Numerical Rating Scale before and one hour after the procedure. The secondary judgement criteria were the effects on patient anxiety, the impact of pruritus on the quality of life and patient satisfaction (NCT03701971). Fifty patients with chronic pruritus were included, 62% were male, and the average age was 60.7 years. The most common diseases were psoriasis (N=10), atopic dermatitis (N=8) and contact eczema (N=6). The average ItchyQol score was 64.8/110, showing a significant impact on quality of life. The intensity of pruritus decreased more significantly in the music intervention group than in the emollient group: 2.3 (SD 2.1) and 1.2 (SD 1.7), respectively (P<0.05). There was a decrease in anxiety in both groups, with no statistical significant difference between groups. Among patients who received the music intervention, 64% reported feeling an improvement, 91% would recommend the music intervention, and 64% would like to continue this practice. Pruritus management is complex and requires first-line aetiological treatment. Aetiological or symptomatic treatments do not always provide enough relief; it is useful to find other therapeutic options. The music intervention has shown interest in our study. Its repeated use over the long term will be interesting to evaluate. As in pain, music may work by activating inhibitory neural circuits. The use of music is a simple method to manage chronic pruritus.

Lymphedema-clinical picture and therapy

Local edema is acommon symptom in many skin diseases, especially in inflammatory or allergic reactions. Diseases of the lymphatic system can also lead to edema with specific changes in the skin. Lymphedema is the result of primary genetic changes, which can also occur in the context of syndromes and can be traced to abnormal development of the lymphatic system. Secondary lymphedema usually develops after surgery, inflammatory reactions or chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). The microfiltrate that is transported in the tissue in healthy individuals via the lymphatic system is rich in proteins and induces fibrosis of the epidermis and dermis. In addition to edema, clinical signs include pachydermia, papillomatosis cutis lymphostatica, hyperkeratosis, lymph cysts, lymph fistulas, nail dystrophies and yellow nails. Basic therapy comprises complex decongestive therapy (CDT: manual lymph drainage, compression, physical exercise/sports, skin care and instructions regarding self-management). Intermittent compression can also be applied. Comorbidities such as obesity and diabetes mellitus may aggravate the situation and must be treated. Adequate therapy can reduce sequelae of the skin.

The article presents modern information on the clinical use and safety of the first-generation H1-antihistamine – dimetindene maleate. Pruritus (itch) mediators act both peripherally (histamine, proteases) and centrally (opioids) and has several mechanisms. Pruritus is the dominant symptom of skin diseases; almost all inflamamatory skin diseases can have associated pruritus. Doctors have focused on the almost one dermatosis with signs of itching – atopic dermatitis. At the same time, the range of diseases, both dermatological and systemic, accompanied by itching, is much wider.

Nalbuphine, a kappa opioid receptor agonist and mu opioid receptor antagonist attenuates pruritus, decreases IL-31, and increases IL-10 in mice with contact dermatitis

Chronic itch is one of the disturbing symptoms of inflammatory skin diseases. Kappa opioid receptor agonists are effective in suppressing scratching in mice against different pruritogens. Nalbuphine, a nonscheduled kappa opioid receptor agonist and mu opioid receptor antagonist, has been in clinical use for post-operative pain management since the 1980s and recently has been in clinical trials for chronic itch of prurigo nodularis (https://www.trevitherapeutics.com/nalbuphine). We studied whether nalbuphine is effective against chronic scratching induced by rostral neck application of 1-fluoro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (DNFB), an accepted mouse model of contact dermatitis to study pruritoceptive itch. Mice were treated once a week with either saline or nalbuphine 20 min before the third, fifth, seventh, and ninth sensitizations with DNFB and the number of scratching bouts was counted for 30 min. Skin samples from the neck of mice at week 4 were used to measure protein levels and mRNA expressions of chemokines and cytokines. Different sets of mice were used to study sedation and anhedonic-like behavior of nalbuphine. We found that: nalbuphine (a) antagonized scratching in a dose- and time-dependent manner without affecting locomotion, b) decreased IL-31, and increased anti-inflammatory IL-10, and c) induced more elevations in the levels of CCL2, CCL3, CCL12, CXCL1, CXCL2, CXCL9, CXCL10, IL-1β, IL-16, TIMP-1, M-CSF, TREM-1 and M1-type macrophages compared to saline. Increases in chemokines and cytokines and M1 macrophages by nalbuphine suggest an inflammatory phase of healing in damaged skin due to scratching. Our data indicate that nalbuphine is an effective antipruritic in murine model of pruritoceptive itch.

Optical tissue probing: human skin hydration detection by speckle patterns analysis.

An optical approach to determine the hydration level in human skin is presented. The approach is based on temporal tracking of back-reflected secondary speckle patterns generated while illuminating the tested area with a laser and applying periodic vibrations to the surface via a controlled vibration source (CVS). This approach has already been tested successfully for other biomedical parameters such as sensing vital signs, hematology and hemodynamic processes in the body. In this paper we examine and adjust this optical technique with the aim of measuring human skin moisture. We compare the suitability and accuracy of our optical method to the commercially available device for skin moisture measurements, the Corneometer CM 825 (by Courage + Khazaka, Cologne, Germany). Preliminary experiments showing the method's suitability for hydration measurements are presented, may lead to more accurate results that may upgrade the control of the cosmetic industry as well as identifying symptoms of moisture-related skin diseases.

Prevalence and clinical characteristics of skin picking among adults with skin disease symptoms

Despite its relevance, few studies have examined the prevalence and characteristics of skin picking in relation to skin disease. To address limitations in the literature, the current study examined in those with self-reported skin disease symptoms: (1) the prevalence of skin picking; (2) demographic, dermatological, and psychosocial characteristics of individuals with and without skin picking; and (3) associations between skin picking severity and psychosocial symptoms. Participants (N = 1129) were screened for skin disease symptoms through an online platform. Among those with active skin disease symptoms (N = 237), 45% reported some degree of skin picking and 22% reported pathological skin picking. Presence of skin picking was significantly associated with younger age and several dermatological characteristics (e.g., number of dermatological conditions, skin disease severity), as well as heightened psychiatric symptoms and greater impairment. Further, severity of skin picking was associated with psychiatric symptoms and impairment. The findings highlight clinical characteristics associated with skin picking that may improve detection of this psychological phenomenon in outpatient settings. Further, the presence of skin picking was associated with worse psychosocial outcomes, indicating the importance of increasing dermatology patients’ access to psychiatric treatments.

Water-Soluble Extract from Actinidia arguta (Siebold & Zucc.) Planch. ex Miq. and Perilla frutescens (L.) Britton, ACTPER, Ameliorates a Dry Skin-Induced Itch in a Mice Model and Promotes Filaggrin Expression by Activating the AhR Signaling in HaCaT Cells.

With a complex etiology involving multiple factors, the condition known as itch is a primary symptom of many skin diseases. Current treatment methods are ineffective for addressing itches caused by dry skin, for example. We developed a botanical extract, ACTPER, made from a mixture of Actinidia arguta and Perilla frutescens, which have traditionally been used to treat itch. The quality of ACTPER as a research agent was controlled in our experiment by cell-based bioassays, as well as by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), using two chemical markers. In the acetone-induced dry skin mice model, the oral administration of ACTPER alleviated dry skin-related skin properties and itching behavior. The RNA and protein expression of the filament aggregating protein (filaggrin) gene, a key factor involved in the regulation of skin barrier function, was significantly increased, as measured by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunofluorescence assay. To understand the underlying mechanism(s) at the molecular level, HaCaT cells, a human keratinocyte-derived cell line, were treated with various concentrations of ACTPER. We found that the protein expression of filaggrin was indeed upregulated by ACTPER in a dose dependent manner. Data from experiments involving the reporter plasmid containing the xenobiotic response element (XRE), and the chemical antagonist for the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), indicated that the ACTPER-mediated upregulation of filaggrin was controlled through the activation of the AhR signaling pathway. The molecular docking simulation study predicted that ACTPER might contain chemical compounds that bind directly to AhR. Taken together, our results suggest that ACTPER may provide the platform, based upon which a variety of safe and effective therapeutic agents can be developed to treat itch.

Human Facial Disease Diagnosis System Using Dempster Shafer Method

Skin is a very important and sensitive part of the human body. It is directly related to the outside world. In everyday life, the skin plays an important role. One of its functions is to remove waste substances. The lack of knowledge and limited sources of information causes low public awareness of skin health as well as not seeing a doctor. Regular skin checks can overcome the beginning of skin diseases that might trigger other more dangerous diseases. The system in this study is designed to detect and to know the symptoms of facial skin diseases that are felt. This knowledge-based system design was developed to diagnose human facial skin disease using the dempster shafer method. HUBUNGAN PENGETAHUAN PERSONAL HYGIENE DENGAN GEJALA PENYAKIT KULIT PADA PEMULUNG DI TEMPAT PEMBUANGAN AKHIR SAMPAH SUWUNG DENPASAR TAHUN 2018

The level of an individual’s education has a big contribution towards the mindset and health problems. The knowledge regarding personal hygiene is necessary to improve the health and behaviour of the ragpickers at Suwung landfill in preventing the symptoms of skin diseases. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of personal hygiene knowledge with the skin disease symptoms on ragpickers.This research was an analytical survey conducted through interview method with cross-sectional approach. The sample size was 70 ragpickers at Suwung landfill. The result of ragpickers’ knowledge at Suwung landfill was 15,7% of good, 45,7% of medium, and 38,6% of bad. The research found 54.3% samples had skin disease symptoms while 45.7% were negative. It was found that symptoms of skin diseases experienced such as itching, bumps, skin redness and scaly skin. From Chi-Square test results obtained p-value = 0.029 ɑ (0.05), means the knowledge of personal hygiene and the skin disease symptoms on the ragpickers had a significant relationship, with a weak level of relationship (CC value= 0,304). The conclusion, there was a relationship between personal hygiene knowledge and skin disease symptoms on ragpickers at the Suwung Landfill.
