IMPLEMENTATION OF ACTIVE LEARNING METHODS IN INCREASING STUDENT INTEREST AND UNDERSTANDING IN HISTORY LESSONS AT SMAN 14 MEDAN

This research aims to explore and analyze the implementation of active learning methods in increasing students' interest and understanding in history lessons at SMAN 14 Medan. Active learning methods are used as the main approach to presenting historical material to students. Research was conducted by collecting qualitative and quantitative data from students involved in the active learning process. The research results show that the implementation of active learning methods is effective in increasing students' interest in history lessons and increasing their understanding of the material being taught. These findings underline the importance of using interactive and participation-based learning methods to strengthen the learning process in schools. The implications of this research provide a basis for the development of more effective learning strategies in the context of history learning in high schools. However, the implementation of active learning methods depends not only on the type of activity carried out but also on the teacher's pedagogical skills in designing and implementing interactive learning. Therefore, continued support for developing teacher skills in using active learning methods is the key to success in improving the quality of history learning at SMAN 14 Medan. Thus, this research provides a valuable contribution to our understanding of the importance of active learning methods in increasing students' interest in and understanding of history lessons. Continuous efforts are needed to expand the use of these methods and overcome challenges that may arise in their implementation, so as to create more meaningful and valuable learning experiences for students in understanding their historical heritage.

Role of Teaching-Learning Resource Availability as Moderator on Digital Technology Knowledge and Instructional Supervision Skills of Teachers

The current study was set to evaluate whether teaching etiquette significantly moderates the relationship between intercultural sensitivity and work fulfillment of teachers. In this study, the researcher selected the 212 public elementary school teachers in Maa District, Davao City as the respondents of the study. Stratified random sampling technique was utilized in the selection of the respondents. Non-experimental quantitative research design using descriptive-correlational method was employed. The data collected were subjected on the following statistical tools: Mean, Pearson Moment Product Correlation, and Heirarchical Regression Analysis. Descriptive analysis showed that digital technology knowledge, instructional supervision skills of teachers, and teaching-learning resource availability in Maa District, Davao City. were described as extensive. Further, correlation analysis demonstrated that there is a significant relationship between digital technology knowledge and instructional supervision skills of teachers in Maa District, Davao City when moderated by teaching- learning resource availability. Evidently, heirarchical regression analysis proved that teaching-learning resource availability significantly moderates the interaction between digital technology knowledge and instructional supervision skills of teachers in Maa District, Davao City.

Guided attention strategies for developing teacher sight

ABSTRACT It is often argued that skilled teachers see or perceive their teaching environments differently from novice teachers. However, few teacher development approaches seek explicitly to develop this ‘teacher sight’. This article draws on the ecological psychology concept of perceptual learning – the process of coming to perceive affordances (opportunities for action) in a performance environment. A key element of perceptual learning is the ‘education’ or ‘guidance’ of attention. This article explores how the concept of guided attention might be used to adapt two existing teacher development strategies – video-based noticing development and coteaching – in order to develop early-career teachers’ capacity to perceive relevant affordances in their practice environment, i.e. to develop their teacher sight.

Design and Application of Intelligent Subject System Based on TPACK Framework

With the continuous advancement of educational informatization deepening of teachers' professional development, educational technology ability has become a necessary quality and skill for college teachers. This article introduces the basic concept of the TPACK framework and the design concept of intelligent disciplinary systems and elaborates in detail on how to apply the TPACK framework to the design and development of intelligent disciplinary systems. Through case analysis, this article demonstrates the advantages of intelligent subject systems in improving teaching quality and promoting active learning among students. Finally, this article discusses the future development direction and application prospects of intelligent disciplinary systems. The intelligent subject system based on the TPACK framework provides a new teaching solution for the education field, which helps to promote the process of educational informatization and personalized teaching. Cultivate students' rigorous scientific literacy and good practice habits, and master standardized experimental analysis methods.

Effective Teaching Methods in Physical Education Classes: A pilot study implementing a new survey for teachers

Physical education (PE) classes for children play a crucial role in promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyle. The PE in the Kosovo primary schools, together with its teaching and organizational issues have long been a key topic of political, sport and scientific debate. However, the various actions carried out so far have not been enough to recognize contents and methods of PE correctly oriented in an educational way. The aim of the study is to highlight the latest method and strategies of the teachers, and the new curriculum used in the field of PE for better learning and developing health among children through physical activity. The research involved (n = 100) PE teachers from Kosovo public schools. All teachers are from Kosovo primary schools, classes VI-IX, with an average of 16 years of work experience. Data was collected using questionnaire by an online survey. The learning methods mostly applied are: practical learning method (96%), teaching through lectures (79%), interactive method (72%), effective teaching method (66%), learning through certain goals (47%). The factors that influence the effective use of teaching strategies are: infrastructure and equipment (94%), teacher skills (89%), competitive activities among children (57%), and children’s desire for physical and sports activities (46%). The factors that can influence the increase in the effectiveness of teaching strategies are: the addition of teaching hours (92%) teacher trainings (84%) and curricular improvements (78%). Teaching methods help teachers to have an effective communication with students, clear instructions, demonstrations, and techniques being taught.

Training on Videoscribe-Based HOTS Learning Media Development to Improve the Skills of Teachers

The community service program in the form of training in creating HOTS-based Videoscribe learning media for Al-Azhar Islam Plus Elementary School teachers was initiated to overcome the challenges of suboptimal integration of information technology in the learning process. The distribution of teacher skills regarding technology, which is currently still low, means that many teachers in various schools still need the insight or skills to optimise the use of technology to maximise the classroom learning system. This training program aims to increase Al-Azhar Islam Plus Elementary School teachers' understanding of HOTS material for elementary school students and build teachers' skills in operating Videoscribe Sparkol software to create learning media. This training program was carried out in a structured manner using the ABCD method. During its implementation, several stages of training were carried out, namely, holding interactive workshops related to HOTS material and Videoscribe Sparkol software, group discussions, and direct practice sessions. Videoscribe, an effective learning visualisation tool, is the main focus of the training. This technology is an important means to facilitate students' HOTS development, stimulating critical, analytical and creative thinking. This training program has succeeded in increasing the understanding of Al-Azhar Islam Plus Elementary School teachers regarding HOTS material, as evidenced by the percentage of 83% of teachers who participated in the training getting a score above 80 on the post-test. The teachers at Al-Azhar Islam Plus Elementary School have also succeeded in working together and creating two learning videos using Videoscribe Sparkol software at the end of the training program. The success of this training not only confirms the need for digital literacy for teachers and highlights Videoscribe's significant potential in creating deeper and more memorable learning experiences for students, in line with the evolving needs of contemporary education. This dedication is evidence of constant efforts to perfect the teaching and learning process in the digital era, placing quality and innovation at its core.

Computer-Based Test (CBT) Assisted Assessment with Rasch Model to Improve Vocational High School Teachers' Skills

The aim of the community service program conducted is to enhance the skills of teachers and students at Bina Kusuma Private Vocational High School in Nanga Pinoh by using computer-based tests and improving teachers' skills in analysing the quality of assessment instruments using the Rasch model theory with the assistance of WinStep. The proposed solution to address these challenges involves conducting workshops and assisting in preparing test instruments. This includes guidance on using computer-based tests for both teachers and students, as well as workshops and assistance in applying the Rasch model to determine the validity of instruments. This community service used Participatory Action Research (PAR) method to find problems experienced by partners. The partners' issues consist of instruments from authentic assessments used at Bina Kusuma Private Vocational High School in Nanga Pinoh, which were made independently by the respective subject teachers and were directly used as benchmarks for student achievement, and the assessment instruments still did not utilise the available resources (computers and smartphones). Efforts made to address the partners' issues included developing authentic assessment instruments that were appropriate and valid. Based on the evaluation results of the activity implementation using the Kick Patrick Level 1 method, the average evaluation score for the presenters was 82.125, and the average evaluation score for the method, relevance and usefulness, facilities, and consumption was 88.75. The constraints encountered in this activity were that the community service program implementers needed to consider timing and conduct more in-depth evaluations. Recommendations for implementing community service program activities included developing a more structured community service program and integrating it with routine school activities.

Digital Methods to Promote Inclusive and Effective Learning in Schools: A Mixed Methods Research Study

Abstract This study investigates 14 digitally enhanced learning methods, shedding light on students with special educational needs (SEN) in inclusive digital learning environments. We seek to fill the gap in the literature by specifically investigating methods suitable for students with SEN. A survey among experts has been carried out to assess learning methods that are effectively applicable in inclusive digital learning environments. A mixed method: quantitative and qualitative data analysis with the use of a constant comparative method has been applied to synthesise and compare experts’ answers. Quantitative data analysis showed that cooperative learning, digital problem/project-based learning, and virtual exchange are the most suitable methods for all students, whereas digital problem/project-based learning, cooperative learning, and service-learning were agreed upon as the most appropriate for students with SEN. Answers to open questions, evaluated using a qualitative approach, showed that the effectiveness of digital approaches is heavily reliant on the skills, experience, willingness, confidence, and knowledge of teachers implementing them. Employing cooperative learning and digital problem/project-based learning, particularly by experienced and highly skilled teachers, has the potential to effectively support all students, including those with SEN, in digital learning environments.

Pendampingan Pembuatan Media Pembelajaran Menggunakan Canva Kepada Para Guru SMP

. The fundamental problems in this Community Service activity are (1) the teacher's ability to utilize technology as a learning medium. (2) Teachers tend not to use technology in designing learning media. The method used in implementing PKM is the empowerment model. This activity aims to assist the teachers to design interactive technology based learning media. This model is implemented using the following steps: 1) Observations are carried out to obtain joint agreement regarding the mechanism for mentoring activities. 2) holding a workshop which aims to explain and provide general knowledge regarding learning media and the Canva application. 3) The pretest is carried out to obtain comparative scores before mentoring and after mentoring. 4) Assistance in creating learning media using Canva. 4) The post test was carried out to see the teacher's skills and achievements in creating learning media using Canva. The scores obtained in the two tests created were analyzed statistically using the JAPS application. The scores between the two tests are different from each other. The median value of the pre-test results received a score of 55.0 which is categorized as "Low". Meanwhile, the median value from the post-test results received a score of 80.0 and was categorized as "Good". From these results, it can be concluded that the highest median value was obtained by the post-test value. Apart from that, the mean score obtained by students also varies based on each test given. From the pre-test score obtained by students received a score of 55.33 which is categorized as a "Low" score. Meanwhile, the post-test score obtained was 77.77 which was categorized as "Good". From these results, it can be concluded that the mean post-test score was higher than the pre-test score. It means that the teachers are able to use Canva in designing their learning media.

Impact of Distance Professional Development Course on Early Childhood Teacher’s Knowledge, Skills, and Beliefs on Self-Regulation

This study aims to evaluate the impact of a distance professional development course, within the framework of the Preschool Situational Self-Regulation Program (PRSIST), on the knowledge, beliefs, and skills of early childhood education teachers about self-regulation skills. One of the qualitative methods, the case study, was preferred for the current study. The research was conducted with 5 early childhood education teachers, working in a city in middle Anatolia, Turkey. The teachers attended the synchronous distance professional development course 1 day a week for 5 weeks. The total duration of the five sessions was 120 minutes. Interview forms, reflective journals, and documents were used as data collection tools. As a result of the research, it was found that the course had positive impact on teachers' knowledge, skills, and beliefs about self-regulation skills.

Role Expectations, Constraints, and Strategies: A Case of Departmental Heads in Vhembe West District, Limpopo Province, South Africa

Departmental heads (DHs) in primary schools have multiple roles and responsibilities to fulfil. They are expected to perform diverse roles that are not only limited to being class teachers but also as supervisors, coordinators, and departmental managers. Most of them do not receive formal training to become DHs, how to perform these roles, or how to respond to the challenges accompanying these roles and responsibilities. This study aims to establish strategies to manage constraints that prevent departmental heads from fulfilling their roles effectively within the Vhembe West District of Limpopo Province. The study employed an interpretive paradigm to understand the social realities that DHs experience at school. The study was conducted within the Theory of Constraints (TOC). The research design of this study was a multiple-qualitative case study. The population of the study was all DHs in Elim, Soutpansberg East, and Vhuronga Two (2) Circuits. Purposeful sampling was employed to draw a sample of 9 DHs. Data was collected through a semi-structured interview schedule and document analysis. The data was analysed thematically. Findings from this study revealed, amongst others, the following: the roles of all participants in monitoring, curriculum management, coordination, and planning activities to enhance the implementation of the curriculum. This study recommended, among others that DHs should be excluded from being full-time classroom teachers, and policymakers should reduce the current teaching load of DHs. The study contributes to the empowerment of DHs in their roles despite the huge workload of teaching and supervising teachers in their departments. This is possible through employing distributive leadership wherein they solicit the skills of senior teachers to assist them, thereby enhancing shared leadership, collective action, and collaborative decision-making. РОЗВИТОК КРИТИЧНОГО МИСЛЕННЯ МАЙБУТНІХ ВЧИТЕЛІВ ІНФОРМАТИКИ ТА МАТЕМАТИКИ З ВИКОРИСТАННЯМ ЗАСОБІВ ШТУЧНОГО ІНТЕЛЕКТУ

The article examines the problems of developing critical thinking of future teachers of computer science and mathematics using artificial intelligence tools. The experience of domestic and foreign researchers regarding the use of artificial intelligence in education for the development of critical thinking, in particular, the United States of America, the Republic of Poland, and the Republic of Slovenia, was analyzed. The necessary components of critical thinking are defined: the use of logical thinking to analyze problems, make decisions and solve problems; obtaining, interpreting and using knowledge/facts/data in the process of solving problems; demonstration (manifestations) of creativity and non-standard thinking. In order to investigate the specifics of the application of critical thinking skills by future teachers of computer science and mathematics when working with artificial intelligence systems, a survey was conducted. The "Klochko Questionnaire: Peculiarities of using critical thinking skills by future teachers of computer science and mathematics when working with artificial intelligence systems" was created. The possibilities of using artificial intelligence tools in education have been clarified, in particular: analysis of educational data, creation of educational content, professional development, adaptive learning, and others.The results of the study showed that 92.2% of respondents use or plan to use artificial intelligence tools in the educational process. The vast majority of students studying to become computer science and mathematics teachers actively use artificial intelligence to solve various problems, applying critical thinking and developing their critical thinking skills. The development of critical thinking skills of future computer science and mathematics teachers is a necessary condition for their academic success, personal and professional development, competitiveness, preparation for future challenges, solving new problems, teaching students to think critically. The implementation of artificial intelligence tools for the development of critical thinking in future teachers may have certain risks, such as excessive trust in artificial intelligence and the reduction of the role of one's own experience, intuition, etc. It is important to note that the field of using artificial intelligence technologies in education is just beginning to develop and needs additional research, however, it has great potential for the development of critical thinking of future teachers.

Development of a Tool to assess the Nursing Students’ Perception Regarding Characteristics of Nursing Teachers as their Role Model

Education is a bipolar process. It combines the educated with the educator, the immature with the mature, the learner with the learned, or the pupil with the teacher. The personality of the educator modifies the personality of the educed. The purpose of this study was to develop and valid a tool to assess nursing students’ perception regarding characteristics of nursing teachers as their role model. A Modified Delphi technique was opted for the development of Nursing Students’ Perception tool. Total four Delphi rounds were carried out with experts for the finalization of Nursing Students’ Perception Tool. Self structured Nursing Students’ Perception Tool was administered to 100 B.Sc. nursing Ist Year students who were studying in selected nursing institutions of Punjab by using multi stage sampling technique. Reliability of tool was ensured by internal consistency. Value of Cronbach’s (Unstandardized) and Split half was 0.93. The Nursing Students’ Perception Tool was found to be statistically highly reliable and feasible. Most of (81%) nursing students perceived that it is very important for a nursing teacher to have a good personal qualities and thorough knowledge. Whereas only 15% of students from selected Nursing Institutions of Punjab believed that these characteristics should be essential for nursing teachers to become a role model and few (4%) of them was in favor that their role model needs to possess personal qualities, knowledge, teaching, interpersonal and evaluation skills as well as clinical competencies. The students have identified their role model as knowledgeable, skilled teacher, clinically competent and a best evaluator.

Emotion regulation skills as a mediator of STEM teachers’ stress, well-being, and burnout

The teaching profession highly stressful, and teachers are often faced with challenging situations. This is particularly the case in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education, which is a uniquely demanding and challenging field. This study examined the role of emotional regulation (ER) skills in STEM teachers’ stress, well-being, and burnout. The sample included 165 STEM teachers in middle and high schools who completed standard online questionnaires on ER, stress, well-being, and burnout. They were also asked to comment on three videos depicting authentic mathematical and pedagogical situations. The results indicated that contrary to popular belief, seniority was not linked with levels of stress, difficulties in ER, lower levels of well-being, or higher levels of burnout. A structural equation model and bootstrapping analysis showed teachers’ levels of stress predicted their well-being, and this link between stress and well-being was mediated by teachers’ level of difficulty in ER. The study highlights the importance of STEM teachers’ well-being and suggests the need to reduce stress and burnout by providing tools for teachers to regulate their emotions in the classroom.

Analisis Kreativitas Guru dalam Pembelajaran dengan Kurikulum Merdeka di TK Pelangi Kasih

Increasing teacher creativity in learning with an independent curriculum is the aim of this research. The independent curriculum is a child-centered curriculum. The independent curriculum aims to restore learning from teacher-centered to child-centered learning, so that learning matches the child's interests and talents. Creativity is one of the teacher's skills that must be developed and improved because it is related to improving the quality of education. Efforts to increase creativity are based on five creativity guidelines, namely: Fluency, Flexibility, Originality, Elaboration, Redefinition. The data collection process used interviews with teachers by providing interview instruments which were given to 2 teachers via WhatsApp. The results of the interview show that teacher creativity in stimulating children to develop creativity is very necessary, for this reason teachers need to increase creativity through training activities, workshops, seminars on creativity, so that teachers are expected to be able to bring out the creativity that students have.

This research focuses on students who show less involvement and seriousness in learning. This research emphasizes the importance of using effective lesson opening and closing techniques during the learning process to increase student participation and achieve learning goals. This research aims to analyze the impact of teachers' skills in opening and closing PAI lessons on student engagement, using qualitative methods such as observation, interviews and document analysis to ensure the credibility of the data. teachers have used lesson opening and closing skills to increase student engagement, although not all of these skills are used optimally. There are several indicators, such as student interaction and use of tools, that are not commonly used by teachers. As a result, the skills for opening and closing PAI lessons have been implemented but not fully maximized by teachers. Despite this, students have shown a high level of engagement in learning, which indicates that the better the teacher's skills, the more engaged the students will be.

The Effect of Pedagogical Training in Higher Education on the Newly Employed University Teacher’s Approach to Teaching and Self-efficacy Beliefs in Algerian Universities

"To align with society’s ever-changing needs, the principal goal the university seeks to achieve within the community shifted from providing knowledge through teaching to the strategic role of knowledge production by applying skills. Accordingly, the implementation of the L.M.D. system in Algerian universities focused on supporting the students’ learning process and emphasized student work; this imposed new pedagogical teaching methods and raised the need to improve the pedagogical skills of university teachers. This study aims to determine the impact of pedagogical training in higher education for newly employed teachers at Algerian universities on their approach to teaching, as measured by the Approaches to Teaching Inventory list, and on their self-efficacy beliefs, as measured by the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire. Data were collected in a pre-post design; a questionnaire was designed based on the measurement methods and sent electronically twice to a sample of 50 newly employed teachers before and after pedagogical training. The study finds no statistically significant differences in the teacher-centered or in the student-centered approach among newly employed teachers, and no statistically significant differences in their self-efficacy beliefs before and after pedagogical training. Pedagogical training is not helping newly employed university teachers to center their teaching approach around the student."

CEYYUḶ MOḺIYAṆI KAṞṞAL KAṞPITTALIL UYARNILAIC CINTAṈAIT TIṞAṈ [HIGH ORDER THINKING SKILLS (HOTS) IN TEACHING AND LEARNING CEYYUL AND MOZHIYANI

High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) is the ability to apply knowledge, skills, and values in making reasoning and reflection to solve problems, make decisions, innovate and be able to create things. This study aims to examine the use of HOTS elements among secondary school Tamil teachers in terms of knowledge, understanding, and implementation of HOTS in the teaching and delivery of Ceyyul and Mozhiyani. This study outlines three objectives, namely, identifying the teacher's HOTS knowledge in the teaching and delivery of Ceyyul and Mozhiyani, studying the teacher's HOTS skills in the teaching and delivery of Ceyyul and Mozhiyani and reviewing the implementation of HOTS teachers in the teaching and delivery of Ceyyul and Mozhiyani. The study uses a qualitative approach and is carried out by the case study method. Data will be obtained through interviews, discussions with focus groups, and document analysis. This study requires 10 Tamil teachers who teach form 4 and 5 Tamil subjects to be the respondents of the study in 10 secondary schools. The data collected will be analyzed using coding analysis. The significance of this study is to assist teachers in understanding and developing HOTS elements in teaching as well as improving pupils' thinking skills. This study can enhance the ability and skills of Tamil teachers in the teaching of the literary component through the application of HOTS activities and produce intelligent, creative, and innovative human capital to meet the challenges of the 21st Century so that the country can compete in the world stage.

Ethnicity on the Teaching Skills of Culturally Literate Prospective Science Teachers

Culturally literate science is taught through community culture as a learning resource. The culture in the community around the school or native Indonesian culture is expected to be learning resources. The research aims to reveal the ethnicity of prospective science teachers in microteaching courses concerning culture-based teaching skills. The research used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method. The dependent variable research was the teaching skills of prospective science teachers of different ethnicities. A quasi-experimental method was chosen to investigate the relationship between ethnicities and the teaching skills of prospective science teachers. This research finds that Papuan and Minang prospective science teachers have better abilities to integrate culture in implementing teaching practices through microteaching. Papuan prospective science teachers live in the interior, far from urban areas, and are still accustomed to using local culture in their daily activities. These factors make it easier for them to provide examples of culturally literate science. There is a linear relationship between ethnicity and culturally literate teaching skills from the test results, with a significant value of 0.710 > α (0.05).
