This patient is an 85-year-old woman with a history of hypertension, depression, essential tremor, and pulmonary embolus. She was admitted to our nursing home after a prolonged hospitalization. She was treated there for a systemic infection with oxacillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus originating from a tibial bursitis. The patient refused intravenous vancomycin and was started on oral linezolid. She was also continued on citalopram because of continued evidence of depression. Shortly after starting linezolid, the patient was transferred to our skilled nursing facility for rehabilitation.
