Rentang Buana Niaga Makmur Tasikmalaya.. The method used in this research is a survey. With a research sample of 45 production operator employees as respondents. The data used is primary and secondary data. The analytical tool used in this research is path regression analysis using the SPSS version.25 support application and the Sobel Test. The results of the research show that the implementation of the Situational Leadership Style at PT Rentang Buana Niaga Makmur Tasikmalaya has been carried out well. The work environment at PT Rentang Buana Niaga Makmur Tasikmalaya is also in the good category and employee performance at PT Rentang Buana Niaga Makmur Tasikmalaya is in the high category. Situational Leadership Style has a significant effect on employee performance variables. Situational Leadership Style has a significant effect on work environment variables. The work environment has a significant effect on employee performance. There is an indirect influence between Situational Leadership Style on employee performance through the work environment.

Peran Patroli Perintis Presisi dalam Mencegah Terjadinya Tawuran di Wilayah Hukum Polda Metro Jaya

The phenomenon of brawls in the DKI Jakarta area is increasing due to environmental, economic, and population density factors in the region. The literature references that form the main basis of this research are situational crime prevention theory, iceberg theory, social conflict theory, youth identity theory, as well as the concepts of community policing, and precision inspector patrols. This research uses qualitative methods with data collection techniques of interviews and document studies. The results showed that the role of the Precision Inspector Patrol in preventing fighting in the jurisdiction of Polda Metro Jaya is to ensure that patrols and general guards can run smoothly, be responsible for each assignment, training, and supervision of patrol teams in other units, be the front guard to carry out various preventive and responsive efforts, conduct routine patrols, respond to reports from the public, and maintain the situation in the jurisdiction of Polda Metro Jaya to remain conducive and under control. Through this role, the strategies that can be carried out by the Metro Jaya Police Precision Inspector Patrol Team in preventing fighting crimes are preemptive, preventive, and repressive strategies that are investigative in nature. The community policing policy model in an effort to maximise the implementation of the Precision Pioneer Patrol to prevent horizontal conflicts in the Polda Metro Jaya jurisdiction can be realised through several management stages which include communication and synergy, cooperation, handling, and performance evaluation. Thanks to this, the Precision Pioneer Patrol has been able to reduce the number of horizontal conflicts that occur in the Polda Metro Jaya jurisdiction. The suggestions are for the Precision Pioneer Patrol Team to increase the frequency of patrols at night in the red and yellow zones, for future researchers to apply GIS as an early detection map of conflict-prone areas, and for cooperation partners to expand the scope of programme implementation P2TP2A Unit, PPA Unit, and FKDM to provide an understanding of the importance of Precision Pioneer Patrol in preventing horizontal conflicts.

Inference-Based Information Relevance Reasoning Method in Situation Assessment

The growing volume of information available to decision-makers makes it increasingly challenging to process all data during decision-making. As a result, a method for selecting only relevant information is highly desirable. Moreover, since the meaning of information depends on its context, the decision-making process requires mechanisms to identify the context of specific scenarios. In this paper, we propose a conceptual framework that utilizes Situation Theory to formalize the concept of context and analyze information relevance. Building on this framework, we introduce an inference-based reasoning process that automatically identifies the information necessary to characterize a given situation. We evaluate our approach in a cybersecurity scenario where computer agents respond to queries by utilizing available information and sharing relevant facts with other agents. The results show that our method significantly reduces the time required to infer answers to situation-specific queries. Additionally, we demonstrate that using only relevant information provides the same answers as using the entire knowledge base. Finally, we show that the method can be applied to a limited set of training queries, allowing the reuse of relevant facts to address new queries effectively.

Design of an Energy-Saving System for Smart Home Decoration Based on Situational Awareness

This article analyzes the specific energy-saving requirements for smart home decoration in the current market to determine the overall plan of the entire smart home decoration energy-saving system. Based on situational analysis combined with grounded theory, organize and summarize the original data, and use factor analysis for dimensionality reduction analysis. Combining the multi-level analysis method, experts evaluated and scored the user experience evaluation indicators, obtained the weight assignment of each influencing factor, and constructed a user experience evaluation model for smart home products based on situational theory. After extensive testing, it was found that the ZigBee based smart home network implemented in this article has low energy consumption, overcomes many shortcomings of smart home networks, and has high application value.

STOPS and multivariate hierarchical aglomerative clustering: segmentation of the public regarding children’s vaccinaton communication in Slovenia

PurposeFrom a public health perspective, vaccination programmes significantly add to long-term, safe co-existence. However, because there is no social consensus about their benefits and risks, the promotion of vaccinations is difficult. Based on Kim and Grunig’s situational theory of problem solving (STOPS), including communicative action in problem solving (CAPS), this paper both proposes a model for identifying the involvement of mothers of young children in communication regarding vaccination and advocates for a novel approach to STOPS and CAPS data analyses.Design/methodology/approachThe methodological design develops empirical analyses of the data yielded by the STOPS model. Two approaches to determining associations between situational-motivational variables and communicative-action variables in random-sample survey data obtained in Slovenia in 2016 (N = 1704) are implemented – i.e. visual methods and multivariate agglomerative clustering algorithm.FindingsThe STOPS model has been confirmed and both data-analyses approaches have shown potential by clearly demonstrating associations and patterns in the data. Based on these findings, we conclude that they have the potential to be the norm in analysing STOPS models.Research limitations/implicationsLimitations of the study, which are still to be overcome, involve drawing on one sample in one country and testing only one set of indicators.Practical implicationsFrom an academic point of view, confirmation of both the model and the analytical power of the pragmatic data-analyses methods significantly add to communication studies. From practical and social points of view, relationships among attitudes and communication behaviour, as outlined in the exposed segments of the public, enable the improvement of every step in strategic-communication planning and implementation.Originality/valueThis paper fulfils an identified need to establish a theoretical framework and methodology of segmentation in vaccination-communication studies.

Evaluating the Role of Electronic Security Surveillance in Enhancing Safety in Secondary Schools: A Case Study of Trans Nzoia County, Kenya

Secondary school safety is critical to sustaining comparable academic performance outcomes. However, there are so many threats that affect the safety of schools that make up this necessity throughout the world. Security challenges in secondary schools in Kenya includes fires, theft and radicalization have been witnessed in school. Nevertheless, the application of electronic security surveillance systems still remains rather low. They work under very high risks and many schools in Trans Nzoia County are especially vulnerable leaving the school community at risk. This research aimed at evaluating the extent to which these systems enhance safety. Based on Situational Crime Prevention Theory and Contingency Theory, the study adopted descriptive survey research design and targeted 14 second schools with previous security threats and deployed with surveillance systems. Participants were 14 principals, 14 boarding teachers, 14 security personnel, 70 students- 10 students from each of the 7 schools, County Director of Education, and the Chief Fire Officer. The sample size for the study was 128 respondents. Data was collected using questionnaires, interview schedules and Focus Group Discussions. The data was analysed through using Social Package for Social Sciences version 25. Regarding electronic surveillance system improvement of school security, 80.8 percent of respondents supported its effectiveness. When national ICT and school safety policies had been included, it was found that the improvement of these systems for the safety of schools has proved 40.9% different (R² = 0.409, F (2, 75) = 26.003, p = 0.000). Of all the forms of surveillance, the study noted that CCTV cameras were the most widely used in secondary schools. That being said, the efficiency of their use in achieving safety objectives was somewhat hampered by operational obstacles. The study therefore suggests that while emphasizing on the use of additional technologies like fire alarms, burglar alarms, Metal detectors and Biometric systems, the school management boards in collaboration with Ministry of education and ICT should devise way of extending the use of such gadgets. Secondly, to guarantee full coverage of the school premises, it is necessary to step up investment in electronic security systems, and improve the support of personnel pertaining to the detection of threats.

Game Designers’ Experiences with Educational Game Design Elements: From Practice to Conception!

Educational game (EG) designing processes have adopted various processes and approaches over the last decades. While many articles report EG design elements that can potentially assist in effective EG design, not much research exists on whether game designers use/agree with those elements. In considering the aforementioned, the questions arise with game designers’ practices: how do they approach EG design elements in their process? Are there any core elements they include in their EG designing practices? Are there any other aspects that influence their EG designing process? Therefore, this paper reports on the above-addressed questions and how game designers and their experiences in designing EGs can present insightful gaming elements associated with EGs. Based in Australia, a phenomenological approach was adopted to conduct semi-structured interviews to gather the essence of their experiences. Seventeen game designer participants attended two-hour interview sessions. Interpretive thematic analysis was used to identify emerging themes until saturation was achieved (Braun and Clarke 2012). The analysis was concurrently grounded through the concepts of the theory of experience, including continuity, interaction, situation, freedom, and desire which drives the purpose to apply and contextualize the growth of experience (Dewey 1938). In conclusion, an “Essential” Educational Game Elements (EGEs) framework is proposed with design elements collating all relevant elements/factors, necessary theories, and mechanics suggested by game designers for consideration in the design process as they have practiced. Lastly, researchers in educational/serious games are encouraged to consider the application of the proposed framework in designing EGs to further expand its limitations.

Social media profiling: The influence of personal and professional social media content on hiring ratings

AbstractThis study integrates identity and situational strength theories into a realistic accuracy model framework to develop and test hypotheses regarding how hiring managers perceive social media (SM) information, and how those perceptions translate into ratings. In Study 1, 310 h professionals rated which SM content they perceive as most useful in assessing applicants on various work‐related constructs. The provided a foundation for Study 2, where 151 h professionals participated in an experimental hiring simulation to understand whether these perceptions of SM information translate into rating behavior. Results indicate that manipulating SM content influenced HR professionals’ ratings of applicants. Non‐job‐related SM content influenced ratings of work‐related constructs more strongly than job‐related content. Professional SM was rated more favorably than personal SM.

Holistic support framework for doctors training as rural and remote general practitioners: a realist evaluation of the RVTS model.

To develop theory about how and why the supervision and support model used by the Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS) addresses the professional and non-professional needs of doctors (including many international medical graduates) who are training towards general practice or rural generalist fellowship while based in the same rural or remote practice. We conducted a realist evaluation based on the RAMESES II protocol. The initial theory was based on situated learning theory, networked ecological systems theory, cultural theory and geographical narcissism theory. The theory was developed by collecting empirical data through interviews with 27 RVTS stakeholders, including supervisors, participants and RVTS staff. The theory was refined using a project reference and a stakeholder advisory group and confirmed using individual meetings with experts. Theory about how the contexts of person, place and program interacted to address professional and non-professional needs. The RVTS program offers remote access to knowledgeable and caring supervisors, real-time tailored advice, quality resources and regular professional networking opportunities, including breaks from the community. It worked well because it triggered five mechanisms: comfort, confidence, competence, belonging and bonding. These mechanisms collectively fostered resilience, skills, professional identity and improved status; they effectively counteracted the potential effects of complex and relatively isolated work settings. This theory depicts how a remotely delivered supervision and support model addresses the place and practice challenges faced by different doctors, meeting their professional and non-professional needs. The participants felt valued as part of a special professional group delivering essential primary health care services in challenging locations. The theory could be adapted and applied to support other rural and remote doctors.

The Self-Control Ability Scale: Measuring a Key Construct of Situational Action Theory

Situational Action Theory (SAT) has emerged as a prominent theory of crime and delinquency. It includes a new conceptualization of self-control, which emphasizes its role in enabling individuals to adhere to their morality when deliberating about deviant and non-deviant action alternatives. However, existing self-control scales do not directly capture this role of self-control as a guardian of personal morality when externally challenged. To close this gap, we developed and validated the Self-Control Ability Scale (SCAS) to measure an individual’s self-perceived ability to withstand temptation, provocation, or social pressure when they conflict with their personal morality. We present the results of four studies that provide evidence for the three-dimensional structure of the SCAS, the reliability of its measures, its validity, and its measurement invariance across age, gender, and language. The SCAS promises more informative tests of SAT and new insights into individuals’ ability to adhere to their morality when challenged.

Pengaruh Gaya Kepemimpinan Situasional dan Kepuasan Kerja Terhadap Kinerja Karyawan: Studi Kasus TB. Santia Jaya Karawang

The purpose of this study is to examine how situational leadership styles and job satisfaction impact employee performance at TB. Santia Jaya Karawang. The research method employed a quantitative approach involving 60 employees from TB. Santia Jaya Karawang as the study sample, utilizing a saturated sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression with F and t-tests, with a significance level of 5%. The research findings indicate that situational leadership style (X1) significantly influences employee performance at TB. Santia Jaya Karawang, with a t-table value (2.735 > 2.002) or t-statistic > t-table. Additionally, it was revealed that job satisfaction (X2) partially affects employee performance at TB. Santia Jaya Karawang, with a t-table value (3.956 > 2.002) or t-statistic > t-table. Overall, situational leadership styles and job satisfaction collectively impact employee performance (Y), as indicated by an F-value of 21.509 > 3.16. Therefore, the combined effect of situational leadership styles and job satisfaction on employee performance at TB. Santia Jaya Karawang is 43%, while the remaining 57% is influenced by other factors not examined in this study.

Employee perspectives on effective crisis leadership skills in small and medium-sized enterprises

ABSTRACT Building on the 4Cs and five phases of crisis management and Hersey and Blanchard’s situational leadership model, this research aims to identify employees’ perspectives and expectations on crisis leadership characteristics and skills to lead organisations and decrease the disruptive effects of a black swan event. This exploratory research interviewed 43 small and medium-sized enterprise employees from wholesale and retail trade sectors in Taiwan and the U.S. and studied their expectations of effective crisis leadership. Using an inductive thematic analysis, this research identified eight themes for leaders to navigate and lead through crises and make positive changes. Personal qualities and abilities to excel are the top two themes mentioned by most of the interviewees. A follower-centred situational leadership that demonstrates positive personal qualities, focuses on employee safety, and assures job security and transparency can effectively lead the employees and organisation to overcome a crisis. The findings could be used for organisation leaders’ and HRD professionals’ practice as change agents and for future research in HRD theory and leadership.

Investigation of STEM Supported Engineering and Design Experiences of Students Participating in Design and Innovation Workshop in the Context of Situational Interest Theory

This study aims to examine the engineering and design-supported STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) experiences of students who participated in the "Design and Innovation Workshop" organized at the Science and Art Center (SAC) during the semester break. The experiences and perceptions of 17 students (10 males and 7 females) were analyzed in depth in this study, which was conducted using a phenomenology design from qualitative research methods. Semi-structured interview form, student diaries, field notes and STEM product drawing form were used as data collection tools. The research findings showed that students' participation in design and engineering-based STEM activities enhanced their problem-solving skills, creativity and teamwork. The theory accompanying the research suggests that these activities increase students' interest and motivation in STEM disciplines. The research results suggest that design and innovation workshops can positively influence students' attitudes and skills towards STEM fields.

How do mandatory emergency medicine rotations contribute to the junior residents’ professional identity formation: a qualitative study

BackgroundThis study aims to investigate the impact of short-term mandatory emergency medicine rotations on professional identity formation of Japanese junior residents. Using situated learning theory as a theoretical framework, we explore how this rotation, which is part of a two-year Junior residency in the transition period from students to qualified physicians.MethodsWe conducted a qualitative study conducting semi-structured face-to-face interviews with Year 1 postgraduate residents in the 2020–2021 classes of the junior residency program in Okinawa Chubu Hospital, Japan (n = 10). The data obtained from the interviews were analysed using inductive thematic analysis to identify the themes regarding professional identity formation.ResultsFour main themes regarding professional identity formation emerged from the data analysis: patient care, teamwork, role models, and peers. Junior residents said they had the opportunity to participate in the emergency department community and experience training in authentic clinical contexts. Clinical exposure influenced the professional identity formation of the junior residents. Nurses and peers played a crucial role in this. Junior residents see the training in the emergency department as the beginning of their careers.ConclusionShort-term mandatory rotations enabled junior residents to integrate into the emergency department community, demonstrating autonomy and responsibility. These experiences fostered their professional identity by helping their socialisation within the community of practice.

Management of Tahfidz Quran Programs in Shaping Elementary Students' Character

The current study intends to analyze the management of the Tahfidz program in shaping students' character. The non-mulazamah program became the subject of the study. A qualitative approach using a case study method was employed in this study. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, and documentation. Data were generated from the analysis process, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the management of the Tahfidz program was successful in shaping students’ characters based on four indicators. First, in the planning stage, the madrasah conducted a need analysis and prepared stakeholders to ensure proficiency in reading the Qur'an, creating an ideal learning environment. Second, in organizing the Tahfidz program, the madrasah had a clear purpose, well-defined job responsibilities, and adequate facilities to support the program. Third, the Madrasah leaders implemented a situational leadership style during the program's execution. Finally, in the control phase, the management team ensured that the program produced quality outcomes, with many students surpassing the expected targets. The study indicates that the Tahfidz program nurtures students’ characteristics such as discipline, responsibility, independence, and compliance.

Impact of Leadership on Employee Behaviour and Attitude in The Ministry of Finance, Ghana

Purpose: This study investigates the influence of leadership on employee behaviour and attitude in the Ministry of Finance in Ghana. It specifically focusses on how leadership practices affect productivity in a public sector setting. The research investigates the adaptive qualities of leadership styles and their efficacy in meeting the varied demands of employees, based on the principles of Situational Leadership Theory (SLT). Methodology: The study utilises a descriptive survey method. The study population consists of all 628 employees of the Ministry, with a sample size of 246 determined through a multi-stage sampling process. Data is obtained by questionnaires. Findings: The findings suggest that leadership roles and practices have a moderate impact on employee behaviour and productivity. Leaders are seen as successful role models, but they are lacking in providing personalised support and effectively communicating goals. The effectiveness of leadership tactics is not considerably influenced by age. The study's findings suggest that implementing leadership development programs, improving communication methods, and providing individualised support mechanisms will promote organisational efficiency and employee engagement in the Ministry of Finance. Policy Implications and Recommendations: Ministries should develop and implement comprehensive training programmes for leaders that focus on enhancing role modeling, setting high performance expectations, and providing effective intellectual stimulation. Governmental ministries should introduce policies and practices that improve the communication of organizational goals and increase employee involvement in the goal-setting process.

The four Cs of physician leadership: A key to academic physician success.

Leadership is increasingly recognized as important in medicine. Physician leadership impacts healthcare delivery and quality. Little work has been done to determine how physician leadership in practice aligns with established models in leadership theory. We conducted 40 semi-structured, 50-minute interviews of physicians who had achieved the rank of professor in our school of medicine and were serving, or had served, in leadership positions. We used an inductive content analysis approach to identify content categories, with leadership emerging as one such category. Subsequently, for the present study, we performed a secondary analysis of the data. To do this, we reviewed all transcripts, seeking to identify if and how participants discussed leadership in relation to success in academic medicine. Following identification of sub-categories related to leadership, we performed qualitative content analysis. We then used a deductive content analysis approach to determine how participants' discussions of leadership aligned with major leadership theories. Then, the principal investigator conducted a secondary inductive content analysis revealing leadership themes that were synthesized into a new model of physician leadership. Twenty-nine participants spontaneously discussed leadership and leadership-related topics as important to their own academic success and comprised the present study cohort. Participants identified contributors to leadership success that aligned with multiple major leadership theories, including leadership traits, skills, behaviors styles, and situational leadership. None of the leadership theories aligned completely with our physician leaders' discussions, suggesting an alternate leadership framework was operating. Further analysis revealed a new model of leadership comprised of the "Four Cs of Physician Leadership": character, competence, caring, and communication. Our participant group of academic physicians identified leadership capabilities as being important in their academic success. While they discussed leadership in ways that fit to varying degrees with the major leadership theories, their discussions revealed a novel, more holistic leadership framework. Further work will be beneficial to determine if this model of leadership is specific to physicians or is more generalizable.

Understanding the relationship between competitive climates and reading achievement in East Asia: a situated expectancy-value theory perspective

ABSTRACT Competitive climates have been found to be critical for language learning. However, most of these studies primarily focused on examining the direct association between competitive climates and language performance. Little attention has been given to exploring how competitive climates interplay with motivational beliefs in influencing language learning, especially in the Confucian culture. To address these gaps, this study aimed to investigate how expectancy-value beliefs mediated the relationship between competitive climates and reading achievement in East Asian regions. The study utilized data from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018, with 41,872 participants from six East Asian regions, including Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, Korea, and Mainland China. The results revealed that competitive climates could enhance students’ reading achievement by fostering expectancy and value beliefs, demonstrating the positive influence of competitive climates on reading achievement within East Asian regions. The theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
