Future of Universities in the Face of Technological and Educational Challenges

In recent years, the situation of education has changed drastically and especially at the higher and university level. This factor is a consequence of technological development, the needs of the new generations and business demands. Thus, the research question that guides this study arises: How can universities adapt to provide an education that responds to these requirements? To this end, an exploratory documentary research is developed on the future of universities, and quantitative instruments are applied to know the perception of the future of universities by both teachers and students who belong to prominent universities in Ecuador. The results reflect that, in the coming decades, universities will be transformed, driven by advanced technologies, the demand for personalized and flexible education, and a greater link with the labor market and sustainability. This evolution will not only improve the quality and accessibility of higher education, but will also prepare students to meet the challenges of the future.

On the Hidden Potential of Public Solitude, Part II: Cultivating Multiple Attention in Students-Performers

ABSTRACT This is the Part II that follows after “On the Hidden Potential of Public Solitude, Part I: Ivan Vyskočil and his Theatre as Encounter.” As promised, we show how Stanislavsky’s public solitude and creative state, elaborated by Ivan Vyskočil (towards a dialogical theatre as encounter), meet with the instant composition practice of Julyen Hamilton. We see the common points in the making on the stage, which requires a simultaneous functioning of different kinds of attention: in their creative state in the condition of public solitude, the performer works from the positions of the actor, the viewer, and the author at the same time. Stanislavsky, Vyskočil, and Hamilton were/are all performing arts practitioners, moreover, theorizing practitioners, and pedagogues. In this Part II, we therefore shift our focus towards pedagogy and inquire into ways multiple attention can be cultivated in students-performers. This study makes part of our practice-based research, in which we reflect on our pedagogical experience at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and the University of Neuchâtel. We build on Vyskočil’s view of pedagogues as performers in public situations of education, pointing out that even pedagogues can work-teach as actors, viewers, and authors at the same time; teaching takes place in the present moment with students, with the teacher being in the creative state, instant composition, and theatre as encounter. We reflect on our experience using the current streams of dialogicality and embodiment in psychology and education, entering a dialogue with psychologists studying attention and embodied learning.

Context of Contextualized Teaching Situations in the Initial Training of Mathematics Teachers at the Popular University of Cesar

The purpose of this research is to reflect on the role of the context environment of the contextualized situations of teaching school mathematics, which make significant contributions to the initial training of the mathematics teacher at the Universidad Popular del Cesar-Valledupar-Colombia, where the informants were the twelve students enrolled in the subjects of Elective III, Mathematics Didactics, History and Epistemology of Mathematics and Degree Work II, of the VI, VII, VIII and IX semesters respectively, of the Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics program; assigned to the Faculty of Education, of the Universidad Popular del Cesar. The study was situated in the qualitative paradigm, under the epistemological approach of sociocultural constructivism, with the recapitulations of the foundations and orientations of the phenomenological-transcendental methodology. It is concluded that it is feasible to change the mathematics master class for a space where students can interact in the teaching-learning process, with the necessary knowledge to understand the messages of the context of the habitat of the subject who learns; and for this reason, the relationships of the trio: Teacher-School Mathematical Knowledge-Students and these with the context can always be placed in the context of mathematics education.

INTRINSIC MOTIVATION OF DISTANCE LEARNERS IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

As information and communication technologies and learner characteristics in higher education develop, so do distance education methods, which are implemented at various levels by higher education institutions. The involvement of students in the learning process is one of the most crucial factors to consider throughout the distance education application transformation, which might change depending on the conditions. At this point, it can be stated that the intrinsic motivation levels of learners involved in distance learning play a decisive role in participating in learning processes. Therefore, examining the intrinsic motivation levels of distance learners is seen as an element that needs to be emphasized. This justifies the study’s goal, which is to analyze the intrinsic motivation levels of students who get distance education from higher education institutions concerning factors including age, gender, employment, and educational status. The relational survey model, one of the general survey models, was utilized in this study, which included 327 distance learners. In terms of distance education applications, the findings of the study have a guiding nature for the administrators working in higher education institutions. The analyses carried out revealed that there were no significant differences in the intrinsic motivation levels of distance learners according to their gender, employment situation, or level of education. Furthermore, it has been found that as people get older, their intrinsic incentive for learning grows. A list of recommendations based on the data gathered within this study is provided at the end.

Dilemma of family education for hearing‐impaired children in China: Responsibility or evasion?

AbstractDue to the difficulty in identifying and monitoring factors that cause hearing impairment during pregnancy, large numbers of new hearing‐impaired children are born every year. Children's hearing impairment can have an impact on all aspects of the family. Family education, as an important element of family function, plays a key role in the growth and development of hearing‐impaired children and in improving the interaction between hearing‐impaired children and their parents. Based on a qualitative study in central China, this article examines the current situation and dilemmas of family education for hearing‐impaired children. Results show that families of hearing‐impaired children generally have a tendency to avoid family education responsibilities, as demonstrated by the lack of family roles, low participation in specific family education, absence of communication and care functions and a laissez‐faire approach to bringing up their children. This evasive tendency cannot simply be attributed to parental irresponsibility; rather, it is the result of a combination of four factors and is closely related to insufficient social support. In the short term, a two‐pronged approach is needed: strengthening the government's responsibility and rendering assistance for families with hearing‐impaired children on the one hand, and establishing reliable links between home and school to provide professional support on the other. In the long run, it is necessary to build up a social support mechanism with social work intervention. This paper puts forward the need for collaboration among multiple parties and a family‐centred assistance model to promote a shift from the tendency towards evasion to active assumption of family responsibility.

ACMEOLOGICAL COMPETENCE OF FUTURE SOCIAL EDUCATORS: CURRENT STATE

Acmeological competence is an important issue for future social educators. This competence contributes to developing their skills to implement their professional activities, adjusting to changing circumstances, and being adaptable in professional endeavors in a rapidly changing world. This paper explores the current situation of future social educators’ acmeological competence. The aim of this research is to define the current state of acmeological competence of future social educators and give recommendations to improve the situation. To collect the data a survey related to social educators’ acmeological competence has been employed. The conducted survey revealed that approximately half of the future social educators are unfamiliar with the term. However, despite their unfamiliarity with “acmeology”, they understand the importance of professional development. The authors of the research believe that incorporating acmeological competence components into the social education curricula and developing initiatives aimed at enhancing acmeological competence will increase future social educators’ acmeological awareness and skills.

An Appraisal of Nigeria’s Philosophy and Goals of Education on Gender Issues

This paper profiles the Nigeria philosophy and goals of education on gender issues. It relies entirely on secondary data and describes the educational situation in the Nigeria philosophy and goals of education on gender issues bringing out the objectives and strategies that the Nigerian government has embarked upon to provide access and quality education for children. The data shows that the educational prospects are dismal in Nigeria. The paper also observes that the National Policy on education in Nigeria has also overlooked the issue of girl-child education to a large extent. The effect of the policy statement on women is negative as man is the main focus. The paper adopts the feminism theory, using the qualitative design method of analysis to describe/appraise Nigeria philosophy and goals of education as they bother on gender issues. The paper concludes that the National Policy on education should be gender neutral to avoid the negative effect on the girl-child education in Nigeria.

The advantages of psycholinguistic methods when analyzing the situation in education are described in the article. A relevant issue concerning the importance of getting education in the traditional “live” environment is raised. The total reality digitalization hazards are discussed from several points of view. The differences between information perception during online and offline education are analyzed. The idea that distant learning is the same as traditional learning when it comes to information presentation ways and the degree of information comprehension is refuted. The evidence of the twenty-year-long gradual shift to consciousness digitalization is given. According to the achieved results digital modality engagement in perception process will increase, while that of kinesthetic one will decrease, which will lead to exacerbation of the problem of modern people consciousness digitalization. Prerequisites to cultural and ethnic identity loss and national languages degradation within the societies in case of continuing americanization are studied. The outcome of school and university influence weakening, being replaced by advertising and mass media, is described. Hazards of mental and physiological disorders emerging and evolution due to the fully digitalized education are forecasted. Some of the possible solutions to prevent risks are given.

The article explores issues about the advantages and difficulties of balanced bilinguals in conditions of language entropy. The purpose of the study is to identify the connection between activity regulation functions and executive functions in primary bilingual schoolchildren at the early stage of learning English under conditions of language entropy. The psychologist's software package “Practice - MSU” was used, the results of which were processed using the Mann-Whitney U test, Wilcoxon T test, and structural equation modeling. Data were obtained confirming the syncretic effect of bilingualism in an educational situation. It has been established that learning English from primary school age by bilinguals is characterized by the productivity of attentional actions, which has effects on other control functions, in particular, inhibitory control and cognitive flexibility. This is due to the fact that bilingualism strengthens the processes of attention control, since the developing multilingual system requires increased attention resources to control the language being studied. The conclusion is formulated that the activation of the multilingual mental field in an educational situation ensures the activation of the system of regulatory processes of the cognitive level in primary school age. The results obtained touch upon the solution of questions about the psychological and pedagogical conditions of the educational environment, which contribute to increasing the effectiveness of the pedagogical process in the early stages of learning English by primary schoolchildren with different language status.

Patterns and Pathways: Teachers’ Perceptions, Readiness, Support, and Barriers to Internationalization in Higher Education

In higher education, internationalization is essential because it exposes students to a globalized environment; however, teachers must be sufficiently prepared for this challenge to internationalize. Many studies emphasize the significance of faculty views on and institutional support in relation to institutionalization; however, there is a knowledge gap regarding how perceptions, support, and barriers interact with teachers’ readiness for and obstacles to internationalization, particularly in the Philippine setting. To fill this gap, this descriptive-correlational study used random sampling to examine 200 higher education teachers’ views on and readiness for institutionalization, the institutional support available, and barriers to institutionalization at state universities and colleges in Central Visayas, Philippines. Online surveys were used to collect data, which were then subjected to regression and descriptive analysis. Findings reveal that teachers have positive perceptions, receive ample support, and encounter barriers to internationalization. Based on their attitudes, beliefs, and pedagogical strategies, they were ready to engage in internationalization activities, they were well prepared in terms of professional development, cultural competence, and language proficiency, but only moderately ready to engage in internationalization, because of limited prior experience. Their institutions supported them through dedicated offices responsible for coordinating international efforts; however, they were also challenged by their institutions’ lack of financial resources and limited access to global networks and partnerships. According to the study findings, improving teachers’ preparedness necessitates building institutional support, promoting positive attitudes, and systematically removing obstacles. It is advised that institutional policies are strengthened. Research is required to fully understand these dynamics in various educational situations.

Current Situation and Countermeasures of Guzheng Teaching in Universities

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the current situation and existing problems of guzheng teaching in universities, and to put forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions. Firstly, through analysing the background and significance of guzheng education in universities, the important position of guzheng teaching in university music education is emphasized. Then, the current situation of guzheng teaching in universities is analysed in detail, including curriculum, teaching content, teaching mode and method, teaching staff and teaching facilities and resources. On this basis, this paper reveals the problems of university guzheng teaching, such as the imperfection of the curriculum and teaching content, the lagging behind of the teaching mode and method, the uneven level of the teaching staff, and the insufficiency of teaching facilities and resources, etc. In order to improve these problems, this paper puts forward a proposal for the improvement of guzheng teaching in universities. In order to improve these problems, this paper puts forward a series of countermeasures and suggestions, including improving the curriculum and teaching content, innovating the teaching mode and method, improving the level of teachers, and strengthening the construction of teaching facilities and resources. Feasibility Of Using AI Supervision System to Improve Teaching Quality

In Chinese educational circles, improving the quality of high school teachers' classroom content has become a hot topic of current research, but there are still shortcomings in how to use AI technology to achieve this purpose. This article analyzes the current situation of high school education in China and the possibility of applying an AI supervision system in practical teaching. The analysis of this article shows that the AI system is very effective in actual teaching, and teachers can greatly improve the teaching quality after using this system, and students' concentration and learning efficiency will be significantly improved. Based on this, this paper puts forward the following suggestions, hoping that relevant departments can support the popularization of AI supervision systems in high schools, and teachers can make reasonable use of this system to adjust the teaching methods of students and themselves. Finally, it is also hoped that the AI system itself can continue to improve to complete classroom supervision more efficiently.

Designing and Applying Educational Scenarios using Synth4kids Musical Educational Software in Preschool Education

The rapid technological advancement of recent years has transformed how people interact with music. In a world where digital transformation is accelerating, the role of technology in music education has become increasingly crucial. In particular, digital platforms and tools are reshaping the way music is taught, especially for younger generations. Children in the digital age are exposed to various musical experiences and preferences. This has led to the development of digital learning environments and software for preschool children, creating a fundamentally new educational framework. However, music pedagogy often relies on traditional teaching models that do not incorporate digital technologies. This article discusses findings from an educational intervention using the Synth4kids software in early childhood music education. Synth4kids offers new avenues for educators to incorporate technology into early childhood education, encouraging creativity, collaboration, and engagement. The study highlights how combining technology and music pedagogy can enrich the learning experience for young children. The results highlight a new techno-centric learning environment where children engage actively and enthusiastically in authentic music teaching and learning situations, transforming their experiences and developing new musical and technological skills. Additionally, the study shows the importance of designing child-friendly software that balances educational goals with playful engagement.

Path Analysis of Vocational Education Cooperation and Development in the Greater Bay Area from the Perspective of the Qualifications Framework

Vocational education has an irreplaceable role in cultivating high-quality talents adapted to the needs of modern industries, promoting flexible employment in the labor market, and promoting the sustainable development of the regional economy. However, due to the differences in the education system, qualifications, and curriculum between regions, there are many problems in vocational education in the Greater Bay Area that need to be solved. Based on this, this paper analyzes in detail the functions and roles of the QF (qualifications framework) in vocational education, and by comparing and analyzing the characteristics and current situation of vocational education in each region, it provides several effective paths that are in line with the development of vocational education in the Greater Bay Area by constructing a highly efficient and synergistic system of vocational education and by promoting the development of regional economic integration.

Self-assessment for continuous professional development: The perspective of Islamic Education

This study was conducted to explore the concept of self-assessment that must be practiced by Islamic education teachers for continuous professional development, focusing on the views of Islamic education teachers (IETs). Since, the researcher is trying to collect further information, it is appropriate to employ a qualitative approach in the form of a case study. Six participants were selected using purposive sampling techniques based on specific criteria. Participants were chosen for their extensive experience in the field of Islamic Education, which provides them with versatility and knowledge of the practices of educators teaching Islamic Education. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted face-to-face and online. The findings revealed six themes: 1) the meaning of self-assessment, 2) the purpose of self-assessment, 3) aspects of self-assessment, 4) timing for conducting self-assessment, 5) the qualities of teachers who practice self-assessment, and 6) challenges in implementing self-assessment. Participants endeavored to enhance understanding of self-assessment practices by offering examples from various teaching roles and situations. Self-assessment plays a crucial role in cultivating reflective thinking and self-awareness among IETs, promoting positive and transformative changes in their professional journey. It fosters enthusiasm and encourages personal growth, thereby enhancing teaching practices within Islamic education. Self-assessment should ideally occur immediately after lessons or in response to specific events, and it is beneficial to be practiced continuously to ensure ongoing improvement and adaptability. Teachers who engage in self-assessment demonstrate a commitment to personal and professional development, contributing to a positive educational environment. Despite challenges, self-assessment empowers teachers to make informed decisions for improvement based on evaluation outcomes. This study serves as a crucial guideline and informational resource for IETs to align their professional development with current needs and advancements.

Promotion focus, but not prevention focus of teachers and students matters when shifting towards technology-based instruction in schools

Implementing technology-enhanced learning and teaching in schools causes major changes for both teachers and students. Research in other fields shows that individuals’ regulatory orientation (i.e., promotion and prevention focus) predicts how people deal with such fundamental changes. Our research ties in with a school trial where classes were equipped with tablets, yielding a shift from predominantly analog to technology-enhanced learning and teaching. In this context, we investigated whether the regulatory orientation of teachers (N = 109) and students (N = 1,127) related to how they dealt with this change. As expected, teachers with a stronger promotion focus were more likely to perceive the changing teaching situation as a (positively connotated) challenge and to intend to use the tablets in class. Further, students with a strong promotion focus when tablet-based teaching was introduced showed higher technology-related self-efficacy and higher motivation to use digital devices after a few months of using tablets in class. Prevention focus was unrelated to teachers’ and students’ attitudes, behavioral intentions, or motivation. Thus, the concept of regulatory orientation helps explain how teachers and students respond to changes in school, whereby particularly promotion focus appears to be relevant for change processes due to digital transformation in education.
