SustainableTransformation of Undergraduate Engineering Education in China through Sino-Australian Cooperation: A Case Study on Electro-Mechanical System

China’s undergraduate engineering education is facing two significant challenges: passive learning and limited cross-cultural communication. In response, active learning methods such as project-based learning (PBL) and Sino-foreign cooperative education emerge as promising solutions. However, despite their potential, PBL’s application remains constrained, and many Sino-foreign cooperative programs persist with traditional passive learning approaches. How to adeptly integrate the two, namely realizing active learning in Sino-foreign cooperative education, is the primary objective of this study. To this end, a sustainable strategy for cross-cultural transfer and the adaptation of active learning is proposed. Initially, a PBL-based active learning pedagogy is tailored for a course within a Sino-Australian cooperative undergraduate program. This approach integrates hands-on activities, teamwork, and the flipped classroom method. Moreover, to ensure implementation quality, an assessment method reliant on continuous student survey feedback is suggested. Subsequently, through the statistical analysis of students’ survey data as well as final grades, both quantitative and qualitative results affirm the efficacy of the proposed strategy.

Exploration and Practice of Value Cultivation for Students in Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Programs

The management cooperative education program refers to collaborative educational projects in the field of management between domestic and foreign universities. This collaboration model helps integrate high-quality education resources from both domestic and international sources, enhancing the quality of teaching and providing students with a broader international perspective and opportunities for career development. This article focuses on the exploration and practice of fostering values for students in management cooperative education. By systematically reviewing key areas such as management ideologies both domestically and internationally, corporate culture and values, and the history of world economic development, this article delves into how to effectively guide students in embracing values of openness, inclusiveness, innovation, and collaboration. On the practical level, the article combines case studies of transnational corporate management practices with the growth and contributions of entrepreneurs in China and abroad, proposing a series of specific cultivation strategies and methods. By integrating case analysis with practical teaching, the aim of this article is to help students translate their learned values into tangible actions, laying a solid foundation for future career development and social responsibility. The research findings of this article have important guiding significance for promoting the cultivation of values for students in management cooperative education.

Research on the Status Quo and High-Quality Development of Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education in China

Faced with unprecedented changes in the world, China has chosen to continue expanding its opening-up and actively cooperate with other countries. Internationalization of education is one of the important directions for the future development of universities. Since the reform and opening-up, a series of Sino-foreign cooperative education policies have been successively released, forming a relatively systematic and complete policy system. Under the promotion of policies, Chinese universities actively engage in Sino-foreign cooperative education, with increasingly frequent educational exchanges and a clear trend towards internationalization. The scale of Sino-foreign cooperative education is also constantly expanding. It is worthy to explore how to draw on advanced teaching experience from overseas, continue to promote Sino-foreign cooperative education, and improve the quality of Sino-foreign cooperative education.

Science and Engineering Undergraduates’ Attitudes and Perceptions of English-Mediated Instruction – A Case Study in A Chongqing International Cooperative Program

This research sought to investigate the perspective of science and engineering students at Chongqing universities towards English-medium instruction (EMI) delivered by foreign instructors. The participants were 156 undergraduate students who studied at a Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Programme in Chongqing University of Technology (CQUT). In this study, data was collected through interviews and questionnaires. The research indicates that most students have a high regard for English-medium instruction and have found that taking Science and Engineering classes instructed by foreign teachers in English has been beneficial in terms of enhancing their English language skills and developing their understanding of the subject. Nevertheless, some students with limited English proficiency encountered difficulties understanding specialized knowledge. They found that full English instruction from foreign teachers did not improve their English language skills. Therefore, this study suggested that China’s Sino-foreign Cooperation Programmes should consider the divergences in students’ English proficiency and vocational objectives and offer differentiated instruction, mentoring, and professional English language training.

Analysis of the Innovative Mode of Cooperative Education of Ideological and Political Education and Professional Education

Sino-foreign cooperationin Polytechnic University is one of the important forms of internationalization of higher education in the new era. However, under the mode of Sino-foreign cooperation, the collaborative education of ideological and political education and professional education in Colleges and universities is facing some difficulties. This paper makes an in-depth analysis of these dilemmas and explores the dialectical relationship between ideological and political education and digital transformation. Secondly, it puts forward the problem that the Sino-foreign cooperative curriculum system attaches little importance to ideological and political education, and discusses the conservative abstraction of the teaching mode of Sino-foreign cooperative ideological and political theory course. Finally, it points out the challenge that the Party and Youth League organization of college students majoring in Sino-foreign cooperation is not fully developed. In order to solve these problems, this paper puts forward the path of ideological and political education suitable for Sino-foreign cooperative education mode in polytechnic universities. Specifically, it includes the teaching mode of digital enabling ideological and political education courses, the construction of campus culture of ideological and political education in Sino-foreign cooperation, the cultivation path of "Teachers'Morality" in Sino-foreign cooperation and the reform of ideological and political education mode. Through the exploration and implementation of these paths, we can enhance the effectiveness of ideological and political education and cultivate high-quality talents with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, beauty and labor. This paper makes an in-depth analysis of the innovative mode of ideological and political education and professional education in the perspective of Sino-foreign cooperation in polytechnic universities, which is of great significance to promote high-quality development.

Order and Crash: Multilingual Ecology and Language Planning in Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Institutions

As preconditions and consequences of the globalization of higher education, multilingualism has reconfigured language ecology, language policy and planning, and multilingual management in the contemporary world. However, studies of multilingualism focusing on real-language scenarios in Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions (SCEIs) are rare. This study explores the multilingual ecology, language policy and planning, and language management of three leading SCEIs in China. It also investigates the attitudes of SCEIs’ stakeholders toward language use and language policy in multilingual contexts. A case study was conducted by analyzing a significant number of language policy documents, semi-structured interviews with stakeholders, and partial participant observations. The research results reveal the main features of multilingual coexistence and intense competition in the three leading SCEIs by identifying the micro, meso, and macro issues of language management. The effects of language policy and planning mechanisms are also identified in SCEIs of higher education. Potential conflicts in multilingual environments are interpreted from the perspective of global cooperation. Last, recommendations are offered for the advancement of the language evolution of SCEIs in China.

Understanding the Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education in China: A Bibliometric Approach

Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education (SFCE) is a form of international education with Chinese characteristics and it is an integral part of the Chinese education system. The aim of the research was to examine how the SFCE developed from 1995 to 2022. For this purpose, the method of bibliometric analysis was used in this study. This systematic literature review examined 537 articles published in CSSCI, CSCD, and PKU databases. The literature was analyzed with regards to the distribution of publications by year, author, institution/organization and journal. Additionally, visual maps were created with analyses of coauthor, co-words and thematic clusters from COOC and VOSviewer. The results show that SFCE has become a compelling issue. However, the publications in the national academic community were small. The most prolific authors were found to be Lin Jinhui, Guo Qiang, and Liu Mengjin. It was also found that the Xiamen University Educational Institute was the most productive institution and China Adult Education was the top journal in SFCE research. As a result of the bibliometric analysis, there is little cooperation between scientists and institutions in the field of SFCE. According to the co-words and thematic cluster analysis, five main clusters were formed. In the future, in-depth research on vocational education, Sino-Foreign Cooperative universities and countermeasures under the epidemic will become the new trend. A mixed research approach should be more adopted in the research methodology, and the research perspective from different interest subjects should be expanded in the future.

Mentors’ and Mentees’ Experiences in a Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Programme: A Phenomenological Study in a Public University in China

This phenomenological study explores the experiences of mentors and mentees in a Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education (SFCE) programme at a public university in China. Since the implementation of the SFCE programme in 2015, no study has been conducted to investigate the experience of mentors and mentees. Using purposive sampling, data were collected through in-depth interviews and classroom observations with six mentors and six mentees, who were selected from a public university in China. The data were analysed using a thematic analysis approach, from which five major themes emerged. The findings highlight the benefits of the SFCE programme for participants, especially for mentees. However, mentors and mentees also faced challenges related to cultural differences and effective mentoring relationships in teaching assessment, teaching style, and management. The facilities and educational resources also require further improvement to ensure the effective implementation of the SFCE programme, and, notably, mentors do not share enough educational resources with mentees. The programme schedule was intensive for mentors and mentees and, thus, needs to be adjusted to improve the SFCE programme. The study concludes with recommendations for both the foreign and Chinese universities that participated in the SFCE programme, to set up a Programme Management Committee to improve communication, to encourage building up better mentoring relationships, and to create a supportive training environment.

Analysis and Suggestions on the Current Situation of Specialized English learning of Vocational College students -- A Case Study of Accounting Students in Sino-foreign Cooperative Education

Sino-foreign cooperation education is a new mode of school-running model, which is characterized by introducing high quality educational resources from abroad to promote the development of higher education. In this paper, accounting majors of higher vocational colleges in Sino-foreign cooperative education are taken as the research object, questionnaires are issued, and the collected data are statistically analyzed to understand the problems existing in students' learning of specialized English. The teaching effect of accounting professional English in higher vocational colleges can be improved by optimizing the teaching staff, changing the teaching methods, strengthening the construction of teaching materials and stimulating the intrinsic learning motivation of students.
