Fabrication of a novel mixed-valent copper-based coordination polymer as a fluorescent sensor for selective and efficient detection of multiple analytes

A novel three-dimensional fluorescent mixed-valent copper-based coordination polymer (CP), namely {[CuICuII4(triazol)6(bpta)2]Cl}n (Cu-CP), was synthesized hydrothermally in the presence of Cu(II) ion, 2,4,6-tri(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-1,3,5-triazine (TTT), and 2,2′,4,4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid (H4bpta). The structure of the Cu-CP was studied using single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). Interestingly, the crystallographic data revealed that a part of Cu(II) ions were reduced in situ to Cu(I) ions as well as the nitrogen-containing ligand TTT was converted to triazol, which possessed excellent fluorescence characteristics as a transition metal ion with a d10 electronic configuration, prompting further investigation into the fluorescence sensing properties of Cu-CP. The results confirmed that Cu-CP exhibited excellent fluorescence performance which an outstanding candidate as a fluorescence sensor for Fe3+, Cr2O72−, CrO42−, MnO4− and nitrobenzene (NB), with a low limit of detection. For ethylene glycol (EG) detection, Cu-CP showed high-efficiency fluorescence enhancement across a range of temperatures. The underlying mechanism of fluorescence enhancement was investigated through comprehensive experimental studies.

Interwoven Trimeric Cage-Catenanes with Topological Chirality.

Catenanes have gained increasing attention for their unique features such as topological chirality. To date, the majority of works have focused on catenanes comprising monocyclic rings. Due to the lack of efficient synthetic strategy, catenanes of multiannulated monomers remain scarce. Here, we report the one-pot synthesis of an interwoven trimeric cage-catenane in high yield by dynamic imine condensation between diamine linkers of suitable length and trialdehyde panels in stoichiometry. The formation of cage-catenane is driven by the efficient 6-fold π-π stacking of panels. The monomeric cage and trimeric cage-catenane are interconvertible with reversible imine chemistry, with the latter thermodynamically being more favored. Using a topology-based statistical model, we first reveal that the formation probability of the interwoven catenane surpasses that of its chain-like isomer by 20%. When this pure mathematical model is refined by taking into account the strong template effect provided by the π-π stacking of aromatic panels, it shows that the interwoven structure emerges as the dominant species, almost ruling out the formation of the latter. Although composed of achiral cage monomers, the topological chirality of the interwoven trimeric catenane is unraveled by chiral-high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of the interwoven cage-catenane also reveals a pair of two topological enantiomers. Our probability analysis-aided rationale would provide a design rationale for guiding the efficient synthesis of topologically sophisticated structures.

Comparative analysis of tetravalent actinide Schiff base complexes: influence of donor and ligand backbone on molecular geometry and metal binding.

A series of isostructural early actinide AnIV complexes was synthesized in order to investigate the influence of a conjugated framework in the ligand backbone on An bonding. Therefore, the AnIV complexes [An(pyrophen)2] (An = Th, U, Np, and Pu) with the pure N-donor ligand bis(2-pyrrolecarbonylaldehyde)-o-phenylenediamine referred to as pyrophen, were synthesized and characterized. Solid state analysis via single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD) reveals two sets of ligands binding in an almost orthogonal arrangement to the actinide center. For the larger actinides Th and U, the coordination sphere allows for additional coordination by a solvent molecule. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) studies show the presence of highly symmetrical complexes in solution in good agreement with the solvent-free solid structures. While SC-XRD suggests mainly ionic binding, an analysis of paramagnetic NMR contributions and quantum chemical bond analysis hint towards significant covalency in the U, Np, and Pu compounds. This series of An complexes allowed for a thorough structural and theoretical comparison of a conjugated system to a closely related N-donor ligand (pyren)[1], as well as to the mixed N,O Schiff base ligands salophen (conjugated) and salen (non-conjugated).

Two Co(II) Isostructural Bifunctional MOFs via Mixed-Ligand Strategy: Syntheses, Crystal Structure, Photocatalytic Degradation of Dyes, and Electrocatalytic Water Oxidation

The solvothermal reactions involving cobalt ions with 5-methylisophthalic acid (H2MIP) and 1,3-bis(2-methylimidazol)propane (BMIP) yielded two cobalt(II) organic frameworks: {[Co4(MIP)4(BMIP)3]·1/2DMA}n (SNUT-31) and {[Co4(MIP)4(BMIP)3]·(EtOH)2·H2O]}n (SNUT-32) where DMA represents N,N-dimethylacetamide and EtOH signifies ethyl alcohol. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that SNUT-31 and SNUT-32 possess an isomorphic structure, featuring a unique 2-fold interpenetration of 3D frameworks in a parallel manner. Notably, both SNUT-31 and SNUT-32 demonstrate remarkable performance in electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reactions and exhibit exceptional photocatalytic degradation capabilities against a model comprising three distinct dyes: rhodamine B, methyl orange, and methyl blue.

Facile synthesis of azines by carboxylic acid esters as catalyst and facilitation of intersystem crossing (ISC) in azines by azine chromophore

Development of new organic synthetic methods fascinating the researchers which facilitating the increasing demands of the modern society, environmental friendly with high efficiency and low cost. The introduction of chromophores in an organic molecules facilitating intersystem crossing (ISC) to harvest both singlet and triplet excitons is also currently demanding field. We report a facile synthesis of symmetrical azines from carbonyl compounds and hydrazine hydrate with carboxylic acid esters as catalyst in methanol. This reaction presents a condensation of primary amino groups in hydrazine hydrate and carbonyl compounds took place simultaneously in a very short refluxing time. The prepared azines 1–10 were structurally analysed by various analytical techniques such as LC-MS1, H NMR13, C NMR, UV-Vis, FTIR and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Photoluminescence properties of prepared azines were recorded in CCl4 at 1 × 10−3 M and excitation range from 329 to 362 nm. The photoluminescence analysis results revealed that compounds 1–10 (except 8) were showed delayed fluorescence and 8 was showed fluorescence property. The photophysical properties of compounds 1–10 such as electron density and band gap energies was calculated by density function theory. This results revealed that the intra-molecular charge transfer occurs within the azines. The azine function in the azines enabling intersystem crossing hence, it is showing phosphorescence.

Synthesis, structure, and AP catalytic performance of two new 1D coordination polymers

Two 1D chain coordination polymers (CPs), [Co(DNDPA)(DMF)2] 1 and [Mn(DNDPA)(DMF)2] 2, were successfully synthesized (4,4′-dinitrodiphenic acid, DNDPA). Their structures were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Differential scanning calorimetry coupled with thermogravimetric analysis revealed that both CPs exhibit commendable thermal stability, with CP 1 and 2 decomposing at 368.9 °C and 375.5 °C, respectively. Non-isothermal kinetic studies confirmed that both CPs displayed significant catalytic activity for the decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP). In particular, CP 1 and 2 reduced the activation energy of AP from its intrinsic value to 100.5 kJ/mol and 127.45 kJ/mol, respectively, and its high-temperature decomposition peak to 354.3 °C and 327.7 °C, respectively. These findings underscore the potential of these CPs as effective catalysts for enhancing the combustion properties of AP.

Melt Polycondensation Strategy to Access Unexplored l-Amino Acid and Sugar Copolymers.

Biodegradable polymers from bioresources are highly in demand for the development of sustainable polymer platforms for commodity plastics and in the biomedical field. Here, an elegant one-pot synthetic strategy is developed, for the first time, to access unexplored hybrid polymers from two naturally abundant resources: carbohydrates (sugars) and l-amino acids. A bottleneck in the synthetic strategy is overcome by tailor-making d-mannitol-based six- and five-membered bicyclic acetalized diols, and their structures are confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and 2D NMR spectroscopy. l-Amino acids are converted into ester-urethane functional monomers, and they are polymerized with sugar-diols under solvent-free melt polycondensation to yield biodegradable poly(ester-urethane)s. Acid-catalyzed deprotection yielded amphiphilic polymers having exclusively alternating residues of sugar and l-amino acid in the polymer backbone. The polymer is self-assembled into 200 ± 10 nm sized nanoparticles that can encapsulate fluorescent dyes, are nontoxic to cells up to 250 μg/mL, and are readily endocytosed for lysosomal enzymatic biodegradation at the cellular level.

A Grafting Hydrogen-bonded Organic Framework for Benchmark Selectivity of C2H2/CO2 Separation under Ambient Conditions.

Reticular chemistry and pore engineering have garnered significant advancements in metal-organic frameworks and covalent organic frameworks, leveraging robust metal-coordination and covalent bonds. However, these achievements remain elusive in hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks, hindered by their inherent weakness in hydrogen bonding. Herein, we strategically manipulate the porosity of hydrogen-bonded frameworks through a grafting approach, culminating in the synthesis of two isomorphic HOFs, HOF-FJU-99 and HOF-FJU-100, with distinct pore environments. Remarkably, HOF-FJU-100, with its microporous architecture, not only showcases exceptional stability but also achieves unparalleled separation efficiency and ultrahigh selectivity for C2H2/CO2 mixtures (50/50, v/v) under ambient conditions. Its IAST selectivity value of 201 stands as a benchmark, towering over all previously reported HOFs. The pore of HOF-FJU-100 boasts an electrostatic potential highly favourable for C2H2 adsorption, as evidenced by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealing multiple hydrogen bonding interactions between C2H2 molecules and the framework. In situ gas-carrier powder X-ray diffraction analysis underscores the adaptability of pore structure, dynamically adjusting its orientation in response to C2H2, thereby enabling a highly efficient and specific separation of C2H2/CO2 mixtures through specific adsorptive interactions.

Ca3[C2O5]2[CO3] is a pyrocarbonate which can be formed at p, T-conditions prevalent in the Earth’s transition zone

Understanding the fate of subducted carbonates is a prerequisite for the elucidation of the Earth’s deep carbon cycle. Here we show that the concomitant presence of Ca[CO3] with CO2 in a subducting slab very likely results in the formation of an anhydrous mixed pyrocarbonate, Ca3C2O52CO3\\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \\usepackage{amsmath} \\usepackage{wasysym} \\usepackage{amsfonts} \\usepackage{amssymb} \\usepackage{amsbsy} \\usepackage{mathrsfs} \\usepackage{upgreek} \\setlength{\\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \\begin{document}$${{{{\\rm{Ca}}}}}_{3}{\\left[{{{{\\rm{C}}}}}_{2}{{{{\\rm{O}}}}}_{5}\\right]}_{2}\\left[{{{{\\rm{CO}}}}}_{3}\\right]$$\\end{document}, at moderate pressure ( ≈ 20 GPa) and temperature ( ≈ 1500 K) conditions. We show that at these conditions Ca3C2O52CO3\\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \\usepackage{amsmath} \\usepackage{wasysym} \\usepackage{amsfonts} \\usepackage{amssymb} \\usepackage{amsbsy} \\usepackage{mathrsfs} \\usepackage{upgreek} \\setlength{\\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \\begin{document}$${{{{\\rm{Ca}}}}}_{3}{\\left[{{{{\\rm{C}}}}}_{2}{{{{\\rm{O}}}}}_{5}\\right]}_{2}\\left[{{{{\\rm{CO}}}}}_{3}\\right]$$\\end{document} can be obtained by reacting Ca[CO3] with CO2 in a laser-heated diamond anvil cell. The crystal structure was obtained from synchrotron-based single crystal X-ray diffraction data. Density Functional Perturbation Theory calculations in combination with experimental Raman spectroscopy results unambiguously confirmed the structural model. A Spin-Labeled Derivative of Gossypol

Gossypol and its derivatives arouse interest due to their broad spectrum of biological activities. Despite its wide potential application, there is no reported example of gossypol derivatives bearing stable radical functional groups. The first gossypol nitroxide hybrid compound was prepared here via formation of a Schiff base. By this approach, synthesis of a gossypol nitroxide conjugate was performed by condensation of gossypol with a 4-amino-TEMPO (4-amino-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-oxyl) free radical, which afforded the target product in high yield. Its structure was proven by a combination of NMR and EPR spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and high-resolution mass spectrometry. In addition, the structure of the gossypol nitroxide was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction measurements. In crystals, the paramagnetic Schiff base exists in an enamine–enamine tautomeric form. The tautomer is strongly stabilized by the intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonds promoted by the resonance of π-electrons in the aromatic system. NMR analyses of the gossypol derivative proved that in solutions, the enamine–enamine tautomeric form prevailed. The gossypol nitroxide at micromolar concentrations suppressed the growth of tumor cells; however, compared to gossypol, the cytotoxicity of the obtained conjugate was substantially lower.

One-Pot Microwave-Assisted Intramolecular Rearrangement of Pyranone Amide to Pyridone Ester

AbstractThis investigation presents a novel, cost-effective approach for creating a 2-pyridone core substituted with an ester group through intramolecular rearrangement. This one-step transformation involves an amide-mediated intramolecular transformation of a pyranone to pyridone scaffold, followed by alcoholic-mediated ester formation, in 75–85% yield. Deuterated alcohol was used to confirm the esterification under alcoholic conditions. The reaction requires a nucleophile source from the solvent, which was observed by performing the reaction of three derivatives in CD3OD to obtain the desired carboxylate compounds, replacing -OR with -OCD3. All synthesized compounds were characterized by spectroscopic analysis, and six selected compounds were further confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies.

Synthesis of π-Extended [1.1]Paracyclophanes, [1.1][n]PCP (n = 2, 3, and 4), and Their Through-space Conjugation.

[1.1][n]Paracyclophanes ([1.1][n]PCPs) (3) with n = 2, 3, and 4, which consist of two[n]paraphenylene units connected by methylene bridges, were synthesized using short synthetic pathways with good overall yields. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that the paraphenylene unit in 3 is bent, resulting in an elliptic core structure of 3. The facing bridgehead carbons of the paraphenylene units are separated by a distance much shorter than the sum of the van der Waals radii of sp2-carbon atoms. UV-vis absorption spectra, fluorescence spectra, electrochemical measurements, and theoretical calculations were used to demonstrate the presence of through-space (TS) conjugation in 3. Furthermore, host-guest complex formation between 3D (n = 3) and tetracyanoquinodimethane in the solid state was revealed.

Crystal structure and compressibility of magnesium chloride heptahydrate found under high pressure.

The odd hydration number has so far been missing in the water-rich magnesium chloride hydrate series (MgCl2·nH2O). In this study, magnesium chloride heptahydrate, MgCl2·7H2O (or MgCl2·7D2O), which forms at high pressures above 2 GPa and high temperatures above 300 K, has been identified. Its structure has been determined by a combination of in-situ single-crystal X-ray diffraction at 2.5 GPa and 298 K and powder neutron diffraction at 3.1 GPa and 300 K. The single-crystal specimen was grown by mixing alcohols to prevent nucleation of undesired crystalline phases. The results show orientational disorder of water molecules, which was also examined using density functional theory calculations. The disorder involves the reconnection of hydrogen bonds, which differs from those in water ice phases and known disordered salt hydrates. Shrinkage by compression occurs mainly in one direction. In the plane perpendicular to this most compressible direction, oxygen and chlorine atoms are in a hexagonal-like arrangement.

Switchable Photovoltaic Effect and Robust Nonlinear Optical Response in a High-Temperature Molecular Ferroelectric [C8N2H22][PbI4

Hybrid organic-inorganic molecular ferroelectrics (HOIMFs) have garnered significant attention for their potential applications in nonvolatile memory and spintronic devices. However, few efforts have been devoted to the photoelectric properties of lead halide molecular ferroelectrics, despite the fact that robust ferroelectricity and flexibility are desirable for thin-film photoelectric devices. Herein, we present a novel lead halide molecular ferroelectric [C8N2H22][PbI4] (1) synthesized hydrothermally. A polar monoclinic structure of 1 was solved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and second-harmonic generation (SHG) tests. A direct band gap of 2.36 eV was confirmed by UV-vis spectrum and theoretical calculation. Hysteresis measurements demonstrated inherent room-temperature (RT) ferroelectricity in 1 with a spontaneous polarization (Ps) of 3.2 μC/cm2. The 1-based photoelectric device shows a notable photovoltaic (PV) effect with Voc ∼ 0.27 V, Jsc ∼ 38 nA/cm2 under AM 1.5 G illumination, and a rapid response time of ∼1.5 ms. A considerable enhancement in PV performance has been achieved by adjusting the ferroelectric polarization, resulting in a maximum Voc ∼ 0.75 V, Jsc ∼ 2.28 μA/cm2. Notably, 1 exhibits a rather large SHG signal, which is approximately 2.61-fold higher than that of KH2PO4 (KDP) upon a 1064 nm laser radiation. This study offers a bright avenue for lead halide molecular ferroelectrics as promising optoelectronic devices and SHG materials.

Copper-Based Electrochemical Sensor Derived from Thiosemicarbazide for Selective Detection of Neurotransmitter Dopamine.

This paper presents the synthesis of the ligand 1-picolinoyl-4-cyclohexyl-3-thiosemicarbazide (H2pctc) and new metal complexes [Ni(Hpctc)2] (1), [Cu(Hpctc)Cl] (2), and [Cd(Hpctc)2] (3). The synthesized metal complexes were precisely characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD). In addition, complexes 1-3 were also characterized by UV-vis, fluorescence, and infrared spectroscopy. SC-XRD data confirmed the distorted octahedral geometry around the Ni(II) and Cd(II) centers and the distorted square planar geometry around the Cu(II) center. Data derived from the emission spectra depict that higher fluorescence intensity was exhibited by complexes 1, 2, and 3 in comparison to that of the free ligand H2pctc, and complex 3 showed the maximum intensity. Further, these metal complex-modified GCEs (glassy carbon electrodes) were utilized for electrochemical sensing of dopamine (DPM). The electrochemical studies of these complexes were performed using modified glassy carbon electrodes supported by electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) methods. In contrast to complexes 1 and 3, complex 2 is a superior electrode material with a high effective surface area for the electrochemical oxidation of DPM, according to the electrochemical response results. The derived sensor had a wide linear detection range of 1 to 1400 μM, an acceptable sensitivity of 0.01531 μA cm-2 μM-1, and a low LOD of 0.38 μM. The proposed approach was free of the interfering effects of ascorbic acid, uric acid, aminophenol, and other substances. During the successive scans, no fouling of the electrode surface was observed. The proposed electrochemical sensor had excellent stability, sensitivity, and a low detection limit making it suitable for the analysis of a variety of real samples. Additionally, it was proven to be useful for analyzing biological fluids.

Synthesis and Characterization of Solvated Lanthanide(II) Bis(triisopropylsilyl)phosphide Complexes.

Lanthanide (Ln) silylamide chemistry is well-developed, but the corresponding silylphosphide chemistry is immature; there are only ten structurally characterized examples of Ln(II) bis(trimethylsilyl)phosphide complexes to date and no reported derivatives with bulkier R-groups. Here, we report the synthesis of the first f-block bis(triisopropylsilyl)phosphide complexes, [Ln{P(SiiPr3)2}2(THF)x] (1-Ln; Ln = Sm, Eu, x = 3; Ln = Yb, x = 2), by the respective salt metathesis reactions of parent [LnI2(THF)2] with 2 equiv of [Na{P(SiiPr3)2}]n in toluene. Complexes 1-Ln were characterized by a combination of NMR, EPR, ATR-IR, electronic absorption and emission spectroscopies, elemental analysis, SQUID magnetometry, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. These data contrast with those obtained for related Ln(II) bis(trimethylsilyl)phosphide complexes due to the bulkier ligands in 1-Ln and also with Ln(II) bis(triisopropylsilyl)amide complexes due to a combination of longer Ln-P vs. Ln-N bonds and the softer nature of P- vs. N-donor ligands.

A novel copper(II) complex with a salicylidene carbohydrazide ligand that promotes oxidative stress and apoptosis in triple negative breast cancer cells.

We report the synthesis, characterization, anti-cancer activity and mechanism of action of a novel water-soluble Cu(II) complex with salicylidene carbohydrazide as the ligand and o-phenanthroline as the co-ligand. The synthesized complex (1) was characterized by FT-IR, EPR, and electronic spectroscopy, as well as single crystal X-ray diffraction. This compound was found to be paramagnetic from EPR spectra and X-ray crystallography revealed that the molecule crystallized in an orthorhombic crystal system. The crystal lattice was asymmetric containing two distinct binuclear copper complexes containing the Schiff base as the major ligand, o-phenanthroline as a co-ligand, two nitrate anions, and two water molecules. The Cu(II) in the first site coordinated with the enolised ligand comprising enolate O-, phenolate O-, and the imine N and N,N from o-phen. The major part of this complex exists as Cu(II) coordinated with two H2O molecules at the second site with nitrate acting as the counter anion. However, a smaller portion of the complex exists where Cu(II) is coordinated with NO3- and H2O, and the remaining water molecule acts as lattice water. It was tested for DNA binding and cleavage properties which revealed that it binds in an intercalative mode to CT-DNA with Kb value of 1.25 × 104 M-1. Furthermore, cleavage studies reveal that the complex has potential for efficient DNA cleavage under both oxidative and hydrolytic conditions. It was able to enhance the rate of cleavage by 2.8 × 108 times. The complex shows good cytotoxicity to breast cancer monolayer (2D) as well as spheroid (3D) systems. The IC50 values for MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 monolayer culture was calculated as 1.86 ± 0.17 μM and 2.22 ± 0.08 μM, respectively, and in (3D) spheroids of MDA-MB-231 cells, the IC50 value was calculated to be 1.51 ± 0.29 μM. It was observed that the complex outperformed cisplatin in both breast cancer cell lines. The cells treated with complex 1 underwent severe DNA damage, increased oxidative stress and cell cycle arrest which finally led to programmed cell death or apoptosis in triple negative breast cancer cells through an intrinsic pathway.

New Quinazolin-4(3H)-One Derivatives Incorporating Isoxazole Moiety as Antioxidant Agents: Synthesis, Structural Characterization, and Theoretical DFT Mechanistic Study.

Background: This research centers on the development and spectroscopic characterization of new quinazolin-4(3H)-one-isoxazole derivatives (5a-e). The aim was to investigate the regioselectivity of the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition involving arylnitriloxides and N-propargylquinazolin-4(3H)-one, and to assess the antioxidant properties of the synthesized compounds. The synthetic approach started with the alkylation of quinazolin-4(3H)-one using propargyl bromide, followed by a 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction. Methods: The structural identification of the products was performed using various spectroscopic methods, such as IR, 1H, 13C, and HMBC NMR, HRMS, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. To further examine the regioselectivity of the cycloaddition, Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations at the B3LYP/6-31G(d) level were employed. Additionally, the antioxidant potential of the compounds was tested in vitro using DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl)radical scavenging assays. The reaction selectively produced 3,5-disubstituted isoxazoles, with the regiochemical outcome being independent of the substituents on the phenyl ring. Results: Theoretical calculations using DFT were in agreement with the experimental results, revealing activation energies of -81.15 kcal/mol for P-1 and -77.32 kcal/mol for P-2, favoring the formation of P-1. An analysis of the Intrinsic Reaction Coordinate (IRC) confirmed that the reaction proceeded via a concerted but asynchronous mechanism. The antioxidant tests demonstrated that the synthesized compounds exhibited significant radical scavenging activity, as shown in the DPPH assay. The 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of arylnitriloxides with N-propargylquinazolin-4(3H)-one successfully resulted in novel 3,5-disubstituted isoxazoles. Conclusions: The experimental findings were well-supported by theoretical predictions, and the antioxidant assays revealed strong activity, indicating the potential for future biological applications of these compounds.

The first type of binuclear copper complex with terminal sulfide: synthesis, structural characterization, and cytotoxicity evaluation

A novel copper complex of [CuII (μ2–S)(terminal-S)(2-acetylpyrdine oxime)2 (1) is synthesized and characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction. The free ligand of 2-acetylpyrdine oxime is an unexpected product obtained from a condensation reaction of p-aminobenzene sulfonamide and 2-acetylpyridine and is characterized by IR, 1HNMR, and 13CNMR spectroscopic methods. X-ray crystallography showed strictly planar bridged μ2- Cu2(S)2 core, and each copper(II) center exhibits distorted square pyramidal coordination geometry. The cytotoxicity of the complex was tested in vitro against esophageal cancer (SKGT-4) cell lines by metabolic tests, using 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide as a reagent. Complex 1 showed a remarkable inhibition response in SKGT-4 cell lines.

Influence of cation disorder on the mineral physics of ankerite

Abstract The structural evolution and compressibility of ordered and disordered ankerite at pressures up to ~25 GPa using synchrotron single crystal X-ray diffraction in diamond anvil cell was analyzed. Ordered ankerite (space group R3) undergoes discontinuous phase transition between 12.15 and 13.45 GPa to a high-pressure structure called ankerite-II (space group P1) that has Ca in eight-fold coordination. Disordered ankerite (R3c space group) does not undergo a phase transition in the investigated pressure range. A Birch-Murnaghan equation of state has been used to fit the volume compressibility. Ordered ankerite [K0V=95(1) GPa - K’=3.8(3)] appears slightly more compressible than disordered ankerite [K0V=99(1) GPa - K’=2.7(1)]. The phase transition in ordered ankerite has a change in volume of approximately 0.6% and K13.45V=110(11) GPa - K’=7(3) for ankerite-II. The possible significance of this differential behavior of ordered and disordered ankerite is discussed.
