Structure Evolution of 2D Covalent Organic Frameworks Unveiled by Single-Crystal X-ray Diffraction.

We report 9 crystal structures of a two-dimensional (2D) covalent organic framework (COF), including the parent Py-1P, 5 derivatives formed by chemical reactions, and 3 dynamic states by solvent exchange/loss. Structure details of these porous crystals, including stacking mode, interlayer distance, pore aperture, and incline angle, before, during, and after conversion processes in solution, were unveiled by single-crystal X-ray diffraction with resolutions up to 0.85 Å. The structure evolution is triggered by stepwise conformational transformation of the molecular building blocks in 2D COF, while their long-range ordering remained unsacrificed.

Metal-Organic Framework-Induced Rh Monocoodination on Diphosphine Ligand Enables Catalytic Hydroformylation of Aliphatic Olefins at Room Temperature and Pressure.

Persistent challenges in hydroformylation of olefins include controlling regioselectivity, particularly for short aliphatic olefins and conducting reactions under ambient conditions. We report here the synthesis of monophosphine-Rh complexes on a typical chelated diphosphine ligand mediated by a Zr-MOF through isolating a pair of phosphorus atoms. We demonstrate that single-crystal X-ray diffraction can elucidate the structural transformation of the Rh catalyst during olefin hydroformylation, providing valuable information on active site reconstruction during catalysis. The Rh-MOF catalyst demonstrates excellent catalytic and recyclable performance in the hydroformylation of short aliphatic olefins with linear to branched ratios of up to 99:1. Due to the framework's capacity to adsorb and concentrate gases, the catalytic reactions occur under room temperature and pressure, eliminating the need for the high temperature and pressures typically required in homogeneous systems. This study show that Zr-MOF can be a unique platform for synthesizing unusual catalytic species that cannot exist in solutions for meaningful chemical transformations and elucidate valuable structural information pertaining to metal-based catalysis.

Synthesis of two Fluorescent Complexes and Their use as Multifunctional Nanomedicine Carriers for Rhabdomyosarcoma Treatment.

This study focuses on the design and synthesis of two novel coordination polymers (CPs), named 1 and 2, with excellent fluorescent properties. Their structures were characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction, revealing that both materials exhibit promising fluorescence performance, indicating their potential as fluorescent detection tools. Additionally, 1 was chosen to be combined with chitosan (CS), resulting in the successful fabrication of a biodegradable and non-toxic efficient drug carrier, termed CS-1@Cisplatin. This carrier possesses a large surface area and good solubility, enabling sustained drug release to target cells. Given that CXC motif chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR4) is a key marker gene highly expressed in Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) cells and tissues, RMS was chosen as the biological model for testing. The results demonstrated that CS-1@Cisplatin effectively inhibited the invasiveness of RMS cells by significantly suppressing CXCR4 expression. Therefore, the system shows great potential for applications in RMS treatment, biometrics, and drug delivery, particularly in its unique advantage of targeting RMS by inhibiting the key marker gene CXCR4.

Two-Dimensional Cu-Based MOF for Selective Staining of the Cellular Nucleus through Fluorescence Imaging and Selective Sorption of Dye Molecules in Aqueous Medium.

A two-dimensional copper-based metal-organic framework, [Cu(C23H14O6)(C10H8N2)2]·H2O·DMSO, 1, was synthesized using pamoic acid (C23H16O6) and 4,4'-bipyridine (C10H8N2) as an organic ligand and Cu(II) as a metal ion. Single-crystal structure X-ray diffraction studies of the as-synthesized compound showed a two- dimensional structure with free hydroxyl groups. Upon excitation at 370 nm, the aqueous dispersion of [Cu(C23H14O6)(C10H8N2)2]·H2O·DMSO, 1, showed emission centered at 525 nm resulting from the intraligand energy transfer. Fluorescence microscopic experiments using a human epithelioid cervix carcinoma HeLa cell line were carried out, clearly showing that our compound selectively stained the cellular nucleus. To utilize the porous nature of [Cu(C23H14O6)(C10H8N2)2]·H2O·DMSO, 1, its dye sorption behavior in aqueous solution was determined, and a high affinity for methylene blue (MB) dye was confirmed. Our synthesized compound sorbed 88% MB dye with an initial concentration of 32 mg L-1, and its sorption capacity for MB was found to be 29.79 mg g-1. The possible mechanism of the dye sorption behavior was discussed in terms of the size and charge of dye molecules with respect to molecular-level interactions between the framework and the dye molecules.

Golden ratio of the r+/r- for the structure-selectivity in the thermoelectric BaZn2-xCdxSb2 system

A total of five Zintl phase compounds in the solid-solution BaZn2-xCdxSb2 (0.10(2) ≤ x ≤ 2) system have been successfully synthesized by the molten Pb-flux method. Both powder X-ray and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses proved that the title compounds displayed the phase transition between the BaCu2S2-type phase (space group Pnma, Z = 4) and the CaAl2Si2-type phase (space group P3¯m1, Z = 1) depending on the Zn/Cd mixed ratio. Furthermore, this kind of structure selectivity was dictated by the radius ratio criterion between the cationic and the anionic elements (r+/r–): three Zn-rich compounds with the r+/r– > 1 (BaZn1.90(1)Cd0.10Sb2, BaZn1.75(2)Cd0.25Sb2, and BaZn1.62(2)Cd0.38Sb2) preferred to adopt the BaCu2S2-type phase, while two Cd-rich compounds with the r+/r– ≤ 1 (BaZn0.16(2)Cd1.84Sb2 and BaCd2Sb2) preferred to crystallize in the trigonal CaAl2Si2-type phase. A series of TB-LMTO calculations using the two hypothetical models: BaZn1.5Cd0.5Sb2 and BaZn0.5Cd1.5Sb2, proved that a resonance peak in the density of states of BaZn1.5Cd0.5Sb2 implied the enhanced Seebeck coefficient of the three Zn-rich compounds, and the reduction of band gap observed in a band structure of BaZn0.5Cd1.5Sb2 influenced the electrical conductivity of the Cd-rich BaZn0.16(2)Cd1.84Sb2. Temperature-dependent thermoelectric property measurements showed the maximum ZT of 0.54 for the quaternary BaZn1.62(2)Cd0.38Sb2, which should mainly be attributed to the reduced κtot due to the Zn and Cd disordering in the anionic frameworks.

Selective Adsorption of Dyes and Fe3+ Sensing via Tb3+ Incorporation in an Anionic Cadmium-Organic Framework.

A three-dimensional (3D) anionic cadmium-organic framework, namely [(CH3)2NH2][Cd1.5(DMTDC)2] ⋅ 2DMA ⋅ 0.5H2O (Cd-MOF; DMA=N,N-dimethylacetamide), was successfully synthesized under solvothermal conditions by using a linear thienothiophene-containing dicarboxylate ligand, 3,4-dimethylthieno [2,3-b]-thiophene-2,5-dicar-boxylic acid (H2DMTDC). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that Cd-MOF exhibits a 3D anionic framework with pcu α-Po topology, featuring rectangle and rhombus-shaped channels along b- and c- axis direction. Cd-MOF demonstrates selective adsorption of cationic dyes over anionic and neutral dyes. Additionally, Tb3+-loaded Cd-MOF serves as a fast-response fluorescence sensor for the sensitive detection of Fe3+ ions with a low limit of detection (8.90×10-7 M) through fluorescence quenching.

Structural, Vibrational Spectroscopic and Theoretical (DFT) Studies of 4-Chloro- and 5-Chloro-7-azaindole-3-carbaldehydes

Molecular structures of 5-chloro-7-azaindole-3-carbaldehyde (5Cl7AICA) and 4-chloro-7-azaindole-3-carbaldehyde (4Cl7AICA) were investigated using infrared and Raman spectroscopy supported by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Theoretical studies were carried out with three DFT methods, which include dispersion corrections: B3LYP-D3, PBE0-D3, and ωB97X-D. A single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis was performed for 5Cl7AICA. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/c, with lattice parameters a = 3.82810(12) Å, b = 12.7330(3) Å, c = 15.9167(5) Å, and β = 94.539(3)°, with Z = 4. Within the crystal lattice, 5Cl7AICA molecules form dimers via dual and strong N1–H1⋅⋅⋅N7′ hydrogen bonds, accompanied by other intermolecular interactions. In the DFT calculations, two types of dimers of the investigated molecules were analyzed: dimer 1, which is present in the crystal structure of 5Cl7AICA, and dimer 2 displaying a 180° rotation of the aldehyde group compared to dimer 1. Computational results indicate that dimer 1 is more stable than dimer 2 for 5Cl7AICA, whereas dimer 2 is more stable than dimer 1 for 4Cl7AICA molecules. Furthermore, experimental and theoretical vibrational spectra were examined to elucidate the influence of internal rotation of the aldehyde group on spectroscopic properties.

Synthesis, Structures, and Magnetic Investigations of Nickel Phosphates: Ni2(PO4)(OH), Ni7(PO4)3(HPO4)(OH)3, and NaNiPO4 Including Potential Haldane Behavior.

Three novel nickel-phosphate structures are reported, Ni2(PO4)(OH) (I), Ni7(PO4)3(HPO4)(OH)3 (II), and NaNiPO4 (III). Each new system was prepared via a high-temperature hydrothermal synthesis at 600-650 °C. All three compounds are built of quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1-D) Ni2+ containing chains with varying phosphate bridging modes and were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and magnetic susceptibility. All three compounds display very different magnetic behavior. Anisotropic magnetic data is reported for Ni2(PO4)(OH) (I) exhibiting slow antiferromagnetic ordering in the high-temperature regime with substructures that begin to form below 32 K at different field strengths. These characteristics affirm I as being one of the few Haldane-like material candidates. The Ni7(PO4)3(HPO4)(OH)3 (II) material is a member of the unusual ellenbergerite structural family and displays complex inter- and intrachain magnetic interactions while NaNiPO4 (III) shows antiferromagnetic ordering near 18 K. This magnetic behavior is correlated with their structures.

A Geometrically Flexible Three-Dimensional Nanocarbon.

The development of architecturally unique molecular nanocarbons by bottom-up organic synthesis is essential for accessing functional organic materials awaiting technological developments in fields such as energy, electronics, and biomedicine. Herein, we describe the design and synthesis of a triptycene-based three-dimensional (3D) nanocarbon, GFN-1, with geometrical flexibility on account of its three peripheral π-panels being capable of interconverting between two curved conformations. An effective through-space electronic communication among the three π-panels of GFN-1 has been observed in its monocationic radical form, which exhibits an extensively delocalized spin density over the entire 3D π-system as revealed by electron paramagnetic resonance and UV-vis-NIR spectroscopies. The flexible 3D molecular architecture of GFN-1, along with its densely packed superstructures in the presence of fullerenes, is revealed by microcrystal electron diffraction and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, which establish the coexistence of both propeller and tweezer conformations in the solid state. GFN-1 exhibits strong binding affinities for fullerenes, leading to host-guest complexes that display rapid photoinduced electron transfer within a picosecond. The outcomes of this research could pave the way for the utilization of shape and electronically complementary nanocarbons in the construction of functional coassemblies.

3D Lead-Organoselenide-Halide Perovskites and their Mixed-Chalcogenide and Mixed-Halide Alloys.

We incorporate Se into the 3D halide perovskite framework using the zwitterionic ligand: SeCYS (+NH3(CH2)2Se-), which occupies both the X- and A+ sites in the prototypical ABX3 perovskite. The new organoselenide-halide perovskites: (SeCYS)PbX2 (X = Cl, Br) expand upon the recently discovered organosulfide-halide perovskites. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction and pair distribution function analysis reveal the average structures of the organoselenide-halide perovskites, whereas the local lead coordination environments and their distributions were probed through solid-state 77Se and 207Pb NMR, complemented by theoretical simulations. Density functional theory calculations illustrate that the band structures of (SeCYS)PbX2 largely resemble those of their S analogs, with similar band dispersion patterns, yet with a considerable bandgap decrease. Optical absorbance measurements indeed show bandgaps of 2.07 and 1.86 eV for (SeCYS)PbX2 with X = Cl and Br, respectively. We further demonstrate routes to alloying the halides (Cl, Br) and chalcogenides (S, Se) continuously tuning the bandgap from 1.86 to 2.31 eV-straddling the ideal range for tandem solar cells or visible-light photocatalysis. The comprehensive description of the average and local structures, and how they can fine-tune the bandgap and potential trap states, respectively, establishes the foundation for understanding this new perovskite family, which combines solid-state and organo-main-group chemistry.

From 0D-complex to 3D-MOF: changing the antimicrobial activity of zinc(II) via reaction with aminocinnamic acids

Combining zinc nitrate with 3- and/or 4- aminocinnamic acid (3-ACA and 4-ACA, respectively) leads to the formation of the 0D complex [Zn(4-AC)2(H2O)2], the 1D coordination polymer [Zn(3-AC)(4-AC)], and the 2D and 3D MOFs [Zn(3-AC)2]∙2H2O and [Zn(4-AC)2]∙H2O, respectively. These compounds result from the deprotonation of the acid molecules, with the resulting 3- and 4-aminocinnamate anions serving as bidentate terminal or bridging ligands. All solids were fully characterized via single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction and thermal techniques. Given the mild antimicrobial properties of cinnamic acid derivatives and the antibacterial nature of the metal cation, these compounds were assessed and demonstrated very good planktonic cell killing as well as inhibition of biofilm growth against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus.

Dithiophosphonate-Protected Eight-Electron Superatomic Ag21 Nanocluster: Synthesis, Isomerism, Luminescence, and Catalytic Activity.

The structure-property relationship considering isomerism-tuned photoluminescence and efficient catalytic activity of silver nanoclusters (NCs) is exclusive. Asymmetrical dithiophosphonate NH4[S2P(OR)(p-C6H4OCH3)] ligated first atomically precise silver NCs [Ag21{S2P(OR)(p-C6H4OCH3)}12]PF6 {where, R = nPr (1), Et (2)} were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and characterized by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, NMR (31P, 1H, 2H), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, UV-visible, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier transforms infrared, thermogravimetric analysis, etc. NCs 1 and 2 consist of eight silver atoms in a cubic framework and enclose an Ag@Ag12-centered icosahedron to constitute an Ag21 core of Th symmetry, which is concentrically inscribed within the S24 snub-cube, P12 cuboctahedron, and the O12 truncated tetrahedron formed by 12 dithiophosphonate ligands. These NCs facilitate to be an eight-electron superatom (1S21P6), in which eight capping Ag atoms exhibit structural isomerism with documented isoelectronic [Ag21{S2P(OiPr)2}12]PF6, 3. In contrast to 3, the stapling of dithiophosphonates in 1 and 2 triggered bluish emission within the 400 to 500 nm region at room temperature. The density functional theory study rationalized isomerization and optical properties of 1, 2, and 3. Both (1, and 2) clusters catalyzed a decarboxylative acylarylation reaction for rapid oxindole synthesis in 99% yield under ambient conditions and proposed a multistep reaction pathway. Ultimately, this study links nanostructures to their physical and catalytic properties.

New Members of the Centrapalus Coumarin and Pauciflorin Series from Centrapalus pauciflorus

Monoterpene and 5-methylcoumarin- or 5-methylchromone-coupled meroterpenoids occurring mainly in the Asteraceae species proved to have high potency against protozoans, worms, and various tumor cells, which make them interesting targets for searching for new bioactive compounds. The African plant Centrapalus pauciflorus was applied in traditional medicine for healing chest pain and stomach aches. Three new meroterpenoids named centrapalus coumarin N (2), pauciflorins P (3), and Q (4), and the already known cyclohoehnelia coumarin (1), were isolated from the chloroform extract of C. pauciflorus, together with centrapalus coumarin O (5), which was obtained for the first time from a natural source. The structures were established from HRESIMS, 1D (1H NMR, 13C NMR JMOD) and 2D NMR (HSQC, HMBC, 1H-1H COSY, NOESY) spectroscopies, and the absolute stereochemistry of 5 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1, 2, and 5 are hybrid molecules of 5-methylcoumarin–monoterpene origin. Centrapalus coumarin N is the first example of meroterpenoids, where a monoterpene is fused with a coumarin and an acetophenone unit. Pauciflorins P and Q are dimeric meroterpenoid isomers. Centrapalus coumarins N and O were tested for antiproliferative activity against human adherent breast (MCF-7, MDA-MB-231), cervical (HeLa, SiHa), and ovarian (A2780) cancer cell lines, and were additionally included to obtain data concerning cancer selectivity. Both compounds exhibited moderate (IC50 > 10 µM) but selective activity against A2780 cells.

Ruthenium p-Cymene Complexes Incorporating Substituted Pyridine–Quinoline-Based Ligands: Synthesis, Characterization, and Cytotoxic Properties

Organometallic complexes of the formula [Ru(N^N)(p-cymene)Cl][X] (N^N = bidentate polypyridyl ligands, p-cymene = 1-methyl-4-(1-methylethyl)-benzene, X = counter anion), are currently studied as possible candidates for the potential treatment of cancer. Searching for new organometallic compounds with good to moderate cytotoxic activities, a series of mononuclear water-soluble ruthenium(II)–arene complexes incorporating substituted pyridine–quinoline ligands, with pending -CH2OH, -CO2H and -CO2Me groups in the 4-position of quinoline ring, were synthesized, for the first time, to study their possible effect to modulate the activity of the ruthenium p-cymene complexes. These include the [Ru(η6-p-cymene)(pqhyme)Cl][X] (X = Cl− (1-Cl), PF6− (1-PF6), pqhyme = 4-hydroxymethyl-2-(pyridin-2-yl)quinoline), [Ru(η6-p-cymene)(pqca)Cl][Cl] ((2-Cl), pqca = 4-carboxy-2-(pyridin-2-yl)quinoline), and [Ru(η6-p-cymene)(pqcame)Cl][X] (X = Cl− (3-Cl), PF6− (3-PF6), pqcame = 4-carboxymethyl-2-(pyridin-2-yl)quinoline) complexes, respectively. Identification of the complexes was based on multinuclear NMR and ATR-IR spectroscopic methods, elemental analysis, conductivity measurements, UV–Vis spectroscopic, and ESI-HRMS techniques. The solid-state structures of 1-PF6 and 3-PF6 have been elucidated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealing a three-legged piano stool geometry. This is the first time that the in vitro cytotoxic activities of these complexes are studied. These were conducted in HEK293T (human embryonic kidney cells) and HeLa cells (cervical cancer cells) via the MTT assay. The results show poor in vitro anticancer activities for the HeLa cancer cell lines and 3-Cl proved to be the most potent (IC50 > 80 μΜ). In both cell lines, the cytotoxicity of the ligand precursor pqhyme is significantly higher than that of cisplatin.

Unusual cadinane-involved sesquiterpenoid dimers from Artemisia annua and their antihepatoma effect

Artemisia annua L. ("Qinghao" in Chinese) is a famous traditional Chinese medicinal herb and has been used to treat malaria and various tumors. Our preliminary screening indicated that the EtOAc extract of A. annua manifested activity against HepG2, Huh7, and SK-Hep-1 cell lines with inhibitory ratios of 53.2%, 52.1%, and 59.6% at 200 μg/mL, respectively. Bioassay-guided isolation of A. annua afforded 14 unusual cadinane-involved sesquiterpenoid dimers, artemannuins A‒N (1‒14), of which the structures were elucidated by extensive spectral analyses, ECD calculations, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Structurally, these compounds were classified into five different types based on the coupled modes of two monomeric sesquiterpenoids. Among them, compounds 1‒9 represented the first examples of sesquiterpenoid dimers formed via the C-3‒C-3' single bond of two 5(4→3)-abeo-cadinane sesquiterpenoid monomers, while compounds 13 and 14 were dimers fused by cadinane and humulane sesquiterpenoids via an ester bond. Methylated derivatives of 1, 4, 6, and 8 showed antihepatoma activity against HepG2, Huh7, and SK-Hep-1 cell lines with IC50 values ranging from 30.5 to 57.2 μM.

A (2-(Pyrrolidin-1-yl)ethan-1-olate)(1-oxo-3-phenyl-1,4-dihydronaphthalen-2-olate) μ-Oxo-Bridged Dicopper(II) Dimeric Complex

The reaction of 2-(1H-pyrrol-1-yl)ethanol with 3-hydroxyflavone in the presence of copper(II) bromide yielded a dimeric copper(II) complex, [μ-O-(κ2-O,O-flav)(κ2-N,O-2PEO)Cu]2 (1) (flav = 3-hydroxyflavonolate; 2PEO = 2-(1H-pyrrol-1-yl)ethanolate) with both the flav and 2PEO ligands bound to the copper(II) atom in a κ2-bonding mode. The dimer is held electrostatically by bridging oxygen atoms between two copper atoms. Complex 1 was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared, and UV-Vis spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and melting point determination. The complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n (14) with cell values of a = 11.85340(10) Å, b = 8.51480(10) Å, c = 23.8453(2) Å; β = 99.3920(10)°.

Synthesis, crystal structure, density functional theory, and vibration analysis of 4-nitro-N-[(4-nitrophenyl) methyl]-N-phenylbenzenemethanamine

In this study, N, N-dibenzylaniline, an essential intermediate with broad significance in organic syntheses organic synthesis, was synthesized and characterized based on its spectrum. The single-crystal structure of the compound was confirmed using X-ray. The crystal structure of the compound, as calculated and optimized by DFT, was consistent with the crystal structure obtained by X-ray single-crystal diffraction. The functional groups of the compound were analyzed using vibrational analysis. Molecular docking analysis revealed the potential pharmacological effects of the compound. The molecular electrostatic potential and frontier molecular orbitals of the compound were studied, and its physical and chemical properties were revealed.

Pillar[5]arene-Based Ion-Pair Recognition for Encapsulation of a Stilbazolium-Type Dye with Enhanced Photophysical Properties and Nonlinear Optical Activity.

Constructing organic composite materials through molecular recognition has emerged as an important theme in materials science. Here we report an ion-pair recognition system involving the use of a propoxylated pillar[5]arene (PrP5) to modulate the solid-state photophysical properties of dye trans-4'-(dimethylamino)-N-methyl-4-stilbazolium hexafluorophosphate (DMASP). Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the dye guest DMASP is encapsulated by PrP5 to form a 2:1 host-guest complex 2PrP5⸧DMASP in the crystalline state. The macrocyclic skeleton of PrP5 imposes restrictions on the intramolecular motions of the dye guest, leading to a significant enhancement of its fluorescence emission. Additionally, within the 2PrP5⸧DMASP complex crystal structure, DMASP molecules are found to display two possible opposite orientations in the one-dimensional channels formed by PrP5 molecules. This arrangement is believed to alter the overall solid-state packing structure of DMASP, thereby activating its nonlinear optical activity. This work not only reports a novel ion-pair molecular recognition system based on pillararenes but also provides valuable insights into the modulation of the crystalline state photophysical properties of organic dyes via cocrystal engineering.

Targeting Manganese Amidinate and ß-Ketoiminate Complexes as Precursors for Mn-Based Thin Film Deposition.

With a focus on Mn based organometallic compounds with suitable physico-chemical properties to serve as precursors for chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and atomic layer deposition (ALD) of Mn-containing materials, systematic synthetic approaches with ligand variation, detailed characterization, and theoretical input from density functional theory (DFT) studies are presented. A series of new homoleptic all-nitrogen and mixed oxygen/nitrogen-coordinated Mn(II) complexes bearing the acetamidinate, formamidinate, guanidinate and ß-ketoiminate ligands have been successfully synthesized for the first time. The specific choice of these ligand classes with changes in structure and coordination sphere and side chain variations result in significant structural differences whereby mononuclear and dinuclear complexes are formed. This was supported by density functional theory (DFT) studies. The compounds were thoroughly characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, magnetic measurements, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. To evaluate their suitability as precursors for deposition of Mn-based materials, the thermal properties were investigated in detail. Mn(II) complexes possessing the most promising thermal properties, namely Bis(N,N'-ditertbutylformamidinato)manganese(II) (IV) and Bis(4-(isopropylamino)pent-3-en-2-onato)manganese(II) (ßIII) were used in reactivity studies with DFT to explore their interaction with oxidizing co-reactants such as oxygen and water which will guide future CVD and ALD process development.

Synergizing Steric Hindrance and Stacking Interactions to Facilitate the Controlled Assembly of Multiple 41 Metalla-Knots and Pseudo-Solomon Links.

In this work, a noncoplanar terphenyl served as building block to synthesize a novel 3,3'-substituted bipyridyl ligand (L1) which further reacted with binuclear half-sandwich units A/B, giving rise to two aesthetical 41 metalla-knots in high yields via coordination-driven self-assembly strategy. Furthermore, given the inherent compactness of the 41 metalla-knots, it creates favorable conditions for the emergence of steric repulsion. We focused on progressively introducing nitrogen atoms featuring lone pair electrons (LPEs) into ligand L1 to manipulate the balance of H···H/LPEs···LPEs steric repulsion during the assembly process, ultimately achieving controlled assembly from 41 metalla-knots to the pseudo-Solomon link and then to molecular tweezer-like assembly facilitated by stacking interactions. All the assemblies were well characterized by solution-state NMR techniques, ESI-TOF/MS, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The evolutionary process of topological architectures is equivalent to visualizing the synergistic effect of steric hindrance and stacking interactions on structural assembly, providing a new avenue for achieving the controlled synthesis of different topologies.
