F-Element Zintl Chemistry: Actinide-Mediated Dehydrocoupling of H2Sb1- Affords the Trithorium and Triuranium Undeca-Antimontriide Zintl Clusters [{An(TrenTIPS)}3(μ3-Sb11)] (An = Th, U; TrenTIPS = {N(CH2CH2NSiiPr3)3}3-).

Reaction of the cesium antimonide complex [Cs(18C6)2][SbH2] (1, 18C6 = 18-crown-6 ether) with the triamidoamine actinide separated ion pairs [An(TrenTIPS)(L)][BPh4] (TrenTIPS = {N(CH2CH2NSiiPr3)3}3-; An/L = Th/DME (2Th); U/THF (2U)) affords the triactinide undeca-antimontriide Zintl clusters [{An(TrenTIPS)}3(μ3-Sb11)] (An = Th (3Th), U (3U)) by dehydrocoupling. Clusters 3Th and 3U provide two new examples of the Sb113- Zintl trianion and are unprecedented examples of molecular Sb113- being coordinated to anything since all previous reports featured isolated Sb113- Zintl trianions in separated ion quadruple formulations with noncoordinating cations. Quantum chemical calculations describe dominant ionic An-Sb interactions in 3Th and 3U, though the data suggest that the latter exhibits slightly more covalent An-Sb linkages than the former. Complexes 3Th and 3U have been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, NMR, IR, and UV/vis/NIR spectroscopies, elemental analysis, and quantum chemical calculations.

Novel Pyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidine Derivatives as Potential Sterol 14α-Demethylase Inhibitors: Design, Synthesis, Inhibitory Activity, and Molecular Modeling.

Thirty-four new pyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidine analogs were designed, synthesized, and characterized. The crystal structures for compounds 2c and 4f were measured by means of X-ray diffraction of single crystals. The bioassay results showed that most target compounds exhibited good fungicidal activities against Pyricularia oryzae, Rhizoctonia cerealis, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Botrytis cinerea, and Penicillium italicum at 16 μg/mL. Compounds 2l, 2m, 4f, and 4g possessed better fungicidal activities than the commercial fungicide epoxiconazole against B. cinerea. Their half maximal effective concentration (EC50) values were 0.191, 0.487, 0.369, 0.586, and 0.670 μg/mL, respectively. Furthermore, the inhibitory activities of the bioactive compounds were determined against sterol 14α-demethylase (CYP51). The results displayed that they had prominent activities. Compounds 2l, 2m, 4f, and 4g also showed better inhibitory activities than epoxiconazole against CYP51. Their half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values were 0.219, 0.602, 0.422, 0.726, and 0.802 μg/mL, respectively. The results of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations exhibited that compounds 2l and 4f possessed a stronger affinity to CYP51 than epoxiconazole.

Highly oxidized guaiane 12(8),15(6)-dilactones with neuroprotective activities from the roots of Lindera aggregata (Sims) Kosterm.

In our search for neuroprotective agents, six previously undescribed highly oxidized guaiane sesquiterpenes, linderaggrols A-F (1-6), together with three known sesquiterpenes, were isolated from the roots of Lindera aggregata (Sims) Kosterm. Their structures including absolute configurations were established by a combination of NMR spectroscopic techniques and single crystal X-ray diffraction experiments. Compounds 1-6 represented the first instances of guaiane 12(8),15(6)-dilactones. Additionally, compound 6 possessed a rare 1,8-O-bridge. Neuroprotective effects against erastin-induced ferroptosis on HT-22 cells showed that some compounds demonstrated neuroprotective effects at 20.0 μM.

Suberitolactams A-D and Suberitopyridines A-B: New γ-lactam and Pyridine Alkaloids Isolated from the South China Sea Sponge Pseudospongosorites suberitoides.

Four new γ-lactam alkaloids, suberitolactams A-D (1-4), two new pyridine alkaloids, suberitopyridines A-B (7-8), and two known compounds (5-6) were isolated from the South China Sea sponge Pseudospongosorites suberitoides. The structures were elucidated by detailed 1D and 2D NMR experiments along with HRESIMS analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1 and 8 showed moderate to weak antiviral activity against H1N1 virus with IC50 values of 27.6 and 13.3 μM, respectively.

Diterpenoids from Acanthopanacis Cortex and their anti-inflammatory activity studies.

Acanthopanacis Cortex (A.-C) with a long history of more than1000years, has been used to treat rheumatism effectively. Nineteen diterpenoids have been isolated from A.-C, including six new compounds (1-6). Among them, compounds 7, 9-11, 13, and 17 were discovered from A.-C for the first time. The structures of 1-6 were determined by analyzing their NMR data and comparing their experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism spectra. Moreover, the single-crystal X-ray diffraction data of 1, 2, 8, and 14 were provided. The anti-inflammatory activity of 1-5 and 7-18 on neutrophil elastase, cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1), and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) has been studied in vitro, and the results showed that 15 had almost no inhibitory effects on COX-1 at 200μM but a significant activity against COX-2 with an IC50 of 0.73±0.006 μΜ. It indicated that compound 15 can provide valuable information for the design of selective COX-2 inhibitors.

Reactivity of a Neutral Yttrium(III) Trimethyl Complex toward Brønsted and Lewis Acids.

The present study corroborates that the neutral tridentateN-ligand trimethyl-triazacyclononane (Me3TACN) qualifies as a versatile platform to study selective ligand exchange with rare-earth-metal alkyl complexes, herein [(Me3TACN)YMe3]. Treatment with Brønsted-acidic bis(dimethylsilyl)amine, HN(SiHMe2)2, gave selectively the mono-exchanged heteroleptic complex [(Me3TACN)YMe2{N(SiHMe2)2}]. Depending on the molecular ratio employed, the reaction of [(Me3TACN)YMe3] with AlMe3resulted in the isolation/crystallization of [(Me3TACN)YMe2(AlMe4)] [1:1] or ion-separated [(Me3TACN)YMe(AlMe4)][AlMe4] [1:2] and [(Me3TACN)YMe(AlMe4)][Al2Me7] [1:3].Analogous reactions with the heavier group 13 methyls GaMe3and InMe3generated mixed methyl/tetramethylgallato complex [(Me3TACN)YMe2(GaMe4)] and ion-separated [{(Me3TACN)YMe2}2{µ-Me}][InMe4]. Finally, dimethylalane, HAlMe2, converted [(Me3TACN)YMe3] intoheteroaluminate [(Me3TACN)Y(HAlMe3)3], representing an AlMe3-supported, molecular yttrium trihydride complex.All compounds were investigated by single crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD), homo- and heteronuclear (13C,27Al,89Y,115In) NMR as well as IR spectroscopies and elemental analyses.

On Tautomerism and Amphoterism: An In-Depth Structural and Physicochemical Characterization of Ammeline and Some of Its Salts.

Ammeline is a simple, readily available, molecular compound, which has been known for nearly 200 years. Despite that, no proper structural characterization of ammeline has been conducted so far. For this reason, the prevalent tautomeric form of ammeline in the solid remained unknown to this date. In the course of this study, its crystal structure was finally established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In this structure, ammeline is exclusively found as its 4,6‑diamino-1,3,5-triazin-2(1H)-one tautomer and adopts layered structure with an exceptionally high hydrogen bond density. Ammeline shows an interesting amphoteric behavior. Therefore, the synthesis and structural characterization of some of its salts were carried out to investigate the influence of the protonation degree on its molecular structure. In particular, the crystal structure of silver ammelinate monohydrate was solved as the first reported structure containing deprotonated ammeline. Moreover, the crystal structures of three different modifications of ammelinium perchlorate were elucidated and the transformation conditions between them were studied. Lastly, the crystal structure of ammelinediium diperchlorate monohydrate, containing unprecedented doubly protonated ammeline, was determined. The products' thermal behavior was studied by differential thermal analysis and thermogravimetric analysis. The perchlorate salts were additionally examined for their potential as insensitive high-energy-density materials.

Synthesis of Imidazo[1,2‐b]pyridazine Scaffold Based Amide Derivatives as Potential Inhibitors for Bacterial Activity

AbstractA series of fifteen novel amide derivatives based on imidazo[1,2‐b]pyridazine scaffold were synthesized by taking imidazo[1,2‐b]pyridazine‐3‐carboxylic acid intermediates with respective substituted amines to yield good to excellent. The molecular structures of the newly synthesized compounds were elucidated using spectroscopic techniques (1H NMR, 13C NMR, and LCMS) and supported by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction (SXRD) for the two compounds, 9 and 18. These compounds were evaluated in vitro for antimicrobial activity against two Gram‐positive bacteria (S. aureus and B. subtilis) and two Gram‐negative bacteria (E. coli and P. aeruginosa). Interestingly, compounds 10 and 16, displayed comparable antibacterial activity to the positive control (Tetracycline: 6.25 μg/mL) against Gram‐negative bacteria, particularly Pseudomonas aeruginosa, with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 6.25 μg/mL. Compound 17 exhibited moderate antibacterial activity with an MIC of 10 μg/mL against the Gram‐positive bacterium Bacillus subtilis, whereas the positive control demonstrated an MIC of 6.25 μg/mL. These antibacterial activities were found to have a good correlation with Insilco computational molecular docking experiments using the receptor UDP‐N‐acetylglucosamine‐enolpyruvate reductase, Mtb MurB.

Toward New Horizons in Verdazyl-Nitroxide High-Spin Systems: Thermally Robust Tetraradical with Quintet Ground State.

High-spin organic tetraradicals with significant intramolecular exchange interactions have high potential for advanced technological applications and fundamental research, but examples reported to date exhibit limited stability and processability. In this work, we designed the first tetraradical based on an oxoverdazyl core and nitronyl nitroxide radicals and successfully synthesized it using a palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of an oxoverdazyl radical bearing three iodo-phenylene moieties with a gold(I) nitronyl nitroxide-2-ide complex in the presence of a recently developed efficient catalytic system. The molecular and crystal structures of the tetraradical were confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The tetraradical possesses good thermal stability with decomposition onset at ∼125 °C in an inert atmosphere; in a toluene solution upon prolonged heating at 90 °C in air, no decomposition was observed. The resulting unique verdazyl-nitroxide conjugate was thoroughly studied using a range of experimental and theoretical techniques, such as SQUID magnetometry of polycrystalline powders, EPR spectroscopy in various matrices, cyclic voltammetry, and high-level quantum chemical calculations. All collected data confirm the high thermal stability of the resulting tetraradical and quintet multiplicity of its ground state, which makes the synthesis of this important paramagnet a new milestone in the field of creating high-spin systems.

{SeO2(OH)} Bridging Lanthanide-Containing Antimono-Seleno-Tungstates.

A series of new trigonal pyramidal {SeO2(OH)} bridging lanthanide-containing antimono-seleno-tungstates [H2N(CH3)2]8Na8Cs4H9[Ln2SeW4O11(OH)(H2O)4(SbW9O33)(SeW9O33)(Se1/2Sb1/2W9O33)]2·32H2O [Ln = Tb (1), Dy (2), Ho (3), Er (4)] have been prepared by the synthetic strategy of simultaneously using the antimonotungstate precursor and simple material in an acidic aqueous solution and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, IR spectrometry, and thermogravimetric analysis. Their molecular structures contain an unprecedented hexameric polyoxoanion [Ln2SeW4O11(OH)(H2O)4(SbW9O33)(SeW9O33)(Se1/2Sb1/2W9O33)]229- constituted by two equivalent trimeric subunits Ln2W4O9(H2O)4(SbW9O33)(SeW9O33)(Se1/2Sb1/2W9O33) bridged via two μ2-{SeO2(OH)} linkers. Furthermore, the catalytic oxidation of various aromatic sulfides and sulfur mustard simulant 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide (CEES) by compound 3 as the heterogeneous catalyst has been investigated, exhibiting high conversion and selectivity as well as good stability and recyclability.

A lithium-aluminium heterobimetallic dimetallocene.

Homobimetallic dimetallocenes exhibiting two identical metal atoms sandwiched between two η5 bonded cyclopentadienyl rings is a narrow class of compounds, with representative examples being dizincocene and diberyllocene. Here we report the synthesis and structural characterization of a heterobimetallic dimetallocene, accessible through heterocoupling of lithium and aluminylene fragments with pentaisopropylcyclopentadienyl ligands. The Al-Li bond features a high ionic character and profits from attractive dispersion interactions between the isopropyl groups of the cyclopentadienyl ligands. A key synthetic step is the isolation of a cyclopentadienylaluminylene monomer, which also enables the structural characterization of this species. In addition to their structural authentication by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, both compounds were characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy in solution and in the solid state. Furthermore, reactivity studies of the lithium-aluminium heterobimetallic dimetallocene with an N-heterocyclic carbene and different heteroallenes were performed and show that the Al-Li bond is easily cleaved.

Designing a Phenalenyl-Based Dinuclear Ni(II) Complex: An Electrocatalyst with Two Single Ni Sites for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER).

A new dinuclear Ni(II) complex 1, [Ni2II(dtbh-PLY)2], is synthesized from 9-(2-(3,6-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzylidene)hydrazineyl)-1H-phenalen-1-one, dtbh-PLYH2 ligand, and structurally characterized by various analytical tools including the single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) technique. In the solid state, both Ni(II) metal centers in complex 1 exist in a distorted square planar geometry and display the presence of rare Ni···H-C anagostic interactions to form a one-dimensional (1-D) linear motif in the supramolecular array. Complex 1 is further stabilized in the solid state by π-π-stacking interactions between the highly delocalized phenalenyl rings. The redox features of complex 1 have been analyzed by the cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique in solution as well as in the solid state, revealing the crucial involvement of both the Ni(II) metal centers for undergoing quasi-reversible oxidation reactions on the application of an anodic sweep. A complex 1-modified glassy carbon electrode, GC-1, is employed as an electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in 1.0 M KOH, giving an OER onset at 1.45 V, and very low OER overpotential, 300 mV vs the reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) to reach 10 mA cm-2 current density. Furthermore, GC-1 displayed fast OER kinetics with a Tafel slope of 40 mV dec-1, a significantly lower Tafel slope value than those of previously reported molecular Ni(II) catalysts. In situ electrochemical experiments and postoperational UV-vis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) studies were performed to analyze the stability of the molecular nature of complex 1 and to gain reasonable insights into the true OER catalyst.

Enhancing the Analysis of Eu3+ Photoluminescence in Coordination Compounds in the Solid State by Determining their Refractive Index

AbstractThis study is focused on determining the refractive index as a crucial parameter for evaluating the intrinsic quantum yield and the ligand sensitisation efficiency in solid‐state trivalent lanthanide coordination compounds. For this, eight trivalent europium complexes with phenyl‐terpyridine ([EuX3(ptpy)(L)], X=Cl− or NO3−, ptpy=4′‐phenyl‐2,2′ : 6′,2′′‐terpyridine, L=H2O or other molecules) were examined. Their refractive indices were determined using the Becke lines test by immersing transparent material in a series of media with known refractive indices. Using the set of media presented here, determining crystalline materials′ refractive indices from 1.41 to 1.73 with a step of 0.01 is possible. Assessment of the refractive indices of the complexes mentioned above allowed a comprehensive analysis of their photophysical properties in the solid state. Moreover, this method can be extrapolated for other solid‐state materials, offering valuable insights in the broader field of photophysics. In addition to photoluminescence investigations, the compounds presented were characterised by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction (SCXRD), powder X‐ray diffraction (PXRD), Hirschfeld surface area analysis, UV‐Vis reflectance spectroscopy, hydrolysis sensitivity analysis, and simultaneous thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis coupled with mass‐spectrometry (STA‐MS).

Supramolecular Assemblies in Mn (II) and Zn (II) Metal–Organic Compounds Involving Phenanthroline and Benzoate: Experimental and Theoretical Studies

Two new Mn(II) and Zn(II) metal–organic compounds of 1,10-phenanthroline and methyl benzoates viz. [Mn(phen)2Cl2]2-ClBzH (1) and [Zn(4-MeBz)2(2-AmPy)2] (2) (where 4-MeBz = 4-methylbenzoate, 2-AmPy = 2-aminopyridine, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, 2-ClBzH = 2-chlorobenzoic acid) were synthesized and characterized using elemental analysis, TGA, spectroscopic (FTIR, electronic) and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The crystal structure analysis of the compounds revealed the presence of various non-covalent interactions, which provides stability to the crystal structures. The crystal structure analysis of compound 1 revealed the formation of a supramolecular dimer of 2-ClBzH enclathrate within the hexameric host cavity formed by the neighboring monomeric units. Compound 2 is a mononuclear compound of Zn(II) where flexible binding topologies of 4-CH3Bz are observed with the metal center. Moreover, various non-covalent interactions, such as lp(O)-π, lp(Cl)-π, C–H∙∙∙Cl, π-stacking interactions as well as N–H∙∙∙O, C–H∙∙∙O and C–H∙∙∙π hydrogen bonding interactions, are found to be involved in plateauing the molecular self-association of the compounds. The remarkable enclathration of the H-bonded 2-ClBzH dimer into a supramolecular cavity formed by two [Mn(phen)2Cl2] complexes were further studied theoretically using density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the non-covalent interaction (NCI) plot index and quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) computational tools. Synergistic effects were also analyzed using molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) surface analysis.

Synthesis, disorder and Ising anisotropy in a new spin liquid candidate PrMgAl11O19

Abstract Here we report the successful synthesis of large single crystals of triangular frustrated PrMgAl11O19 using the optical floating zone technique. Single crystal Xray diffraction measurements unveiled the presence of quenched disorder within the mirror plane, specifically ∼7% of Pr ions deviating from the ideal 2d site towards the 6h site. Magnetic susceptibility measurements revealed an Ising anisotropy with the c-axis being the easy axis. Despite a large spin-spin interaction that develops below ∼10 K and considerable site disorder, the spins do not order or freeze down to at least 50 mK. The availability of large single crystals offers a distinct opportunity to investigate the exotic magnetic state on a triangular lattice with an easy axis out of the plane.

Unveiling the Multielectron Acceptor Properties of π-Expanded Pyracylene: Reversible Boat to Chair Conversion.

In this work, the chemical reduction of a hybrid pyracylene-hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene (HPH) nanographene was investigated with different alkali metals (Na, K, Rb) to reveal its remarkable multielectron acceptor abilities. The UV-vis and 1H NMR spectroscopy monitoring of the stepwise reduction reactions supports the existence of all intermediate reduction states up to the hexaanion for HPH. Tuning the experimental conditions enabled the synthesis of the HPH anions with gradually increasing reduction states (up to -5) isolated with different alkali metal ions as crystalline materials. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction structure analysis demonstrates that the highly negatively charged HPH anions (-4 and -5) exhibit a drastic geometry change from boat-shaped (observed in the neutral parent, mono- and dianions) to a chair conformation, which was proved to be fully reversible by NMR spectroscopy. DFT calculations show that this geometry change is induced by an enhanced interaction between the coordinated metal ions and negatively charged HPH core in the chair conformation.

Crotonoids A-H, Labdane-Type Diterpenoids with Anti-Inflammatory Activity from Croton sublyratus.

Croton sublyratus (Euphorbiaceae) is a traditional medicinal plant used by the Thai populace to treat helminthic infections and dermatologic conditions. In present study, eight new labdane-type diterpenoids, crotonoids A-H (1-8) and one known analogue (9) were isolated from the aerial parts of C. sublyratus. Compounds 6 and 7 belong to the rare class of 14,15-dinor-labdane diterpenoids. Compound 8 exhibited a rare 14,15,17-trinor-labdane skeleton. The structures of all these diterpenoids were elucidated by spectroscopic data analysis, electronic circular dichroism calculations, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Compound 9 exhibited moderate anti-inflammatory activity via the inhibition of NO production in lipopolysaccharide-induced RAW 264.7 cells.

8(S)-[(1R,2S,5R)-2-Isopropyl-5-methylcyclohexyloxy]-3,4-dihydro-2H-[1,4]dithiepino[2,3-c]furan-6(8H)-one

The interaction of propane-1,3-dithiol with the chiral bis-thioether, which combines two 2(5H)-furanone moieties, bridged through their carbon atoms C(4) by the propane-1,3-dithiol fragment, in DMF in the presence of potassium hydroxide or cesium carbonate resulted in the formation of an optically active fused bicyclic sulfur heterocycle, possessing 1,4-dithiepine and unsaturated γ-lactone moieties. The studied reaction follows an unexpected pathway in a basic medium with the thiolate–thiolate exchange. The structure of the novel heterocycle of the 1,4-dithiepinofuranone series is characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Evolution of structure and spectroscopic properties of a new 1,3-diacetylpyrene polymorph with temperature and pressure.

A new polymorph of 1,3-diacetylpyrene has been obtained from its melt and thoroughly characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction, steady-state UV-Vis spectroscopy and periodic density functional theory calculations. Experimental studies covered the temperature range from 90 to 390 K and the pressure range from atmospheric to 4.08 GPa. Optimal sample placement in a diamond anvil cell according to our previously presented methodology ensured over 80% data coverage up to 0.8 Å for a monoclinic sample. Unrestrained Hirshfeld atom refinement of the high-pressure crystal structures was successful and anharmonic behavior of carbonyl oxygen atoms was observed. Unlike the previously characterized polymorph, the structure of 2°AP-β is based on infinite π-stacks of antiparallel 2°AP molecules. 2°AP-β displays piezochromism and piezofluorochromism which are directly related to the variation in interplanar distances within the π-stacking. The importance of weak intermolecular interactions is reflected in the substantial negative thermal expansion coefficient of -55.8 (57) MK-1 in the direction of C-H...O interactions.

Analysis of COF-300 synthesis: probing degradation processes and 3D electron diffraction structure.

Although COF-300 is often used as an example to study the synthesis and structure of (3D) covalent organic frameworks (COFs), knowledge of the underlying synthetic processes is still fragmented. Here, an optimized synthetic procedure based on a combination of linker protection and modulation was applied. Using this approach, the influence of time and temperature on the synthesis of COF-300 was studied. Synthesis times that were too short produced materials with limited crystallinity and porosity, lacking the typical pore flexibility associated with COF-300. On the other hand, synthesis times that weretoo long could be characterized by loss of crystallinity and pore order by degradation of the tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)methane (TAM) linker used. The presence of the degradation product was confirmed by visual inspection, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). As TAM is by far the most popular linker for the synthesis of 3D COFs, this degradation process might be one of the reasons why the development of 3D COFs is still lagging compared with 2D COFs. However, COF crystals obtained via an optimized procedure could be structurally probed using 3D electron diffraction (3DED). The 3DED analysis resulted in a full structure determination of COF-300 at atomic resolution with satisfying data parameters. Comparison of our 3DED-derived structural model with previously reported single-crystal X-ray diffraction data for this material, as well as parameters derived from the Cambridge Structural Database, demonstrates the high accuracy of the 3DED method for structure determination. This validation might accelerate the exploitation of 3DED as a structure determination technique for COFs and other porous materials.
