Asynchronous co-simulation of photovoltaic power generation system based on FPGA-CPU

In order to realize the real-time electromagnetic transient simulation of grid-connected photovoltaic power generation system with small time step, a heterogeneous multiplexed parallel real-time simulation method based on field programmable gate array (FPGA) and central processor is studied. According to the simulation accuracy requirements of the high and low frequency decoupling module, a differentiated simulation step size is used to solve the problem, and a 1us/50us FPGA-CPU multi-rate real-time simulation platform is constructed, in which the FPGA simulation part meets the real-time requirements of small-step transient simulation through the optimization of the response matching method and the EMTP algorithm, the offline simulation results are compared with Simulink, and the model before and after optimization is analyzed, the real-time electromagnetic transient simulation results are compared with Simulink, and the model before and after optimization is analyzed. By comparing the offline simulation results with Simulink and analyzing the FPGA resource consumption before and after model optimization, the accuracy and real-time performance of the co-simulation method for real-time simulation of grid-connected photovoltaic systems are verified.

Design and Simulation of Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System’s Performance Analysis with Optimal Control of Maximum Power Point Tracking Based on Artificial Intelligence

The research presented in this paper is part of a more significant effort to improve the dynamic and static performance of power generation systems using solar panels under specific climatic conditions. The solar panel can produce the greatest power only at the specified voltage and electric current levels. Environmental variables, such as random atmospheric oscillations, have a significant effect on the performance of a solar system connected to the network. Irradiation and ambient temperature are the two inputs to a PV (photovoltaic) system. Because solar radiation varies in nature, the PV system efficiency is low. To improve the efficiency of a solar PV system, several maximum power point tracking (MPPT) approaches are used. The purpose of this paper is to improve the performance of DC/DC chopper controllers and PV inverters in the face of abrupt climate change. To that end, the primary goal of this paper is to compare the following maximum power point search (MPPT) algorithms: the incremental conductance (IC) algorithm, the fuzzy logic (FL) algorithm, VSI controller, and the particle swarm optimization (PSO) strategy. These algorithms were evaluated in terms of efficiency, stability, and speed. A 100 kW PV system is design using MATLAB software 2021a version.

Evaluation of Residential Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System as the Potential Energy Source in Malaysia

Application of solar energy in Malaysia has been started in 1998. This country has a large potential of solar energy due to its location at equatorial region. The current energy consumption and demand in Malaysia is describes in this paper. The potential of solar energy in Malaysia is described together with the suitable photovoltaic construction. It also explains the plans conducted by Malaysia involving solar energy that covers investments and also projects involved such as Malaysia Building Integrated Photovoltaic (MBIPV). Simulation of grid-connected photovoltaic system in this study is performed using HOMER software. Finally, the potential of having a grid-connected PV system in a residential area is analyzed. The positive and negative findings in terms of cost and suitability of the system are explained.

Modeling and Simulation of Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System Based on PSCAD

In order to investigate the impacts of large scale PV power plants on the stability of power system, dynamic PV models are of particular interest to the industry for simulating large-scale power systems. The transient model of large scale grid-connected PV generation system was given based on the model of each component of PV generation system. Response of the model was simulated respectively when the illumination changes. The methods proposed could be applied to the power grid with photovoltaic generation integration.

Modeling and Simulation of Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System

Modeling and simulation of a grid-connected photovoltaic system (GCPS) is addressed in this paper to analyze its control performance and dynamics under changing irradiation. A circuit model of solar array considering irradiation is used to simulate its inherent characteristics and realized by a controlled current source. The controls of the GCPS and its electrical circuits are represented by user-defined and built-in components. The dynamic of the system in normal and fault conditions are dominated by its power controller and a method to set PI controller’s parameters is proposed in this paper. The model has been implemented on DIgSILENT. Simulation results are presented and compared with experiment waves to validate that proposed simulation model is effective for evaluation of the GCPS.

Harmonic distortion assessment for a single-phase grid-connected photovoltaic system

Nowadays, grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems constitute an emerging technology. This has given rise to concerns about their contribution to harmonic distortion levels in utility grids. Valuable insight into the electrical behavior of such a system, including its impact on power quality, can be obtained through extensive simulation studies. In this paper, models are developed with a focus on not only accurate but also fast simulation of grid-connected PV systems. First, time-consuming processes are identified and discussed. These are mainly associated with the semiconductor power switching devices and the non-linear characteristics of the system components (isolation transformer, PV generator). Next, models are developed in order to increase simulation speed by avoiding time-consuming procedures. The validity of the approach is ascertained by comparing simulation results with published measurements. A case study is then performed in order to obtain current and voltage waveforms and, subsequently, harmonic distortion levels. Further simulations are carried out using different values for various system parameters in order to make an assessment of their impact in terms of waveform distortion.
