The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of admixtures on the impact resistance of hardened cement pastes. Latex polymer and silica fume were selected additives for this study. The specimens for cement pastes with silica fume were produced by replacing 5% and 10% (by weight) of cement contents with silica fume, while those with latex polymer were produced by adding as much as 5% and 10% (by weight) of latex polymer and reducing the water content by as much as twice the added latex polymer contents. All specimens were prepared with a water to binder ratio of 0.5. The impact resistance was determined through Charpy impact experiments, and the results showed enhanced impact resistances from both additives. Additionally, the influence of different dosage contents of latex polymer and silica fume were also clarified in this study.
