This cage was developed for the examination, treatment and administration of drugs by injection to infected and difficult cats whose condition, or escape reactions, make them unsafe to handle in the normal way. Despite the difficulties or dangers of handling such animals, it is essential to treat them effectively and immediately. Failure to take prompt action, or the deferment of treatment until after the l4-day quarantine period, can result in the serious illness or even death of cats which initially showed only mild signs such as discharge from the eyes or nose. As treatment may involve repeated application and examination, a simple and reliable method of handling the cats is an important aid to their humane and economical management. It is also a highly desirable, perhaps an essential, safeguard for the staff. It was decided for this purpose to provide a crush-cage similar to those used for handling simians. A vertical movable sheet-metal panel is fitted across the inside at the back of a conventional wire-mesh cat cage 58 X 50 X
