Colleges Enrolling Students Throughout the Country Should Set a Unified Test Score Requirement and Practice Unified Admission

I have been greatly inspired by Comrade Shu Sheng's article "How To Narrow the Gaps Between the Minimum Test Score Requirement of Various Places in the College Entrance Examination" carried in the seventh issue of the journal Higher Education Front. But I take exception to some of the viewpoints expounded in the article. For instance, the writer's view that it is unfeasible for colleges enrolling students across the country to set a unified test score requirement is unconvincing.

2 EDITORIAL It is with great pleasure that the Editorial Board presents this fifth issue of Grotiana, which is completely devoted to a critical edition of De Repu- blica Emendanda, a juvenile tract by Grotius which poses problems of various kinds. The next issue will include a survey of highlights of the 1983 commemo- rative events and a number of publications that proceeded from the qua- ter-centenary. Furthermore we shall update our Grotius bibliography. To reflect the many dimensions of Grotian scholarship the Editors plan to devote the seventh issue (1986 volume) to articles connecting Grotian thought with present-day world

Discussion with Mr. Chou Ku-Ch'eng Concerning Formal Logic and Dialectics

Recently I have read in succession the four articles on formal logic and dialectics in the current year's Hsin chien-she: Mr. Chou Ku-ch'eng's and Dialectics in the second issue, Mr. I Chih's A Criticism of Confused Concepts on Problems of Logic in the fourth issue, Mr. Shen Ping-yuan's A Discussion of ‘Formal and Dialectics,’ and Mr. Chou Ku-ch'eng's Further Discourse on Formal and Dialectics, both in the seventh issue. In my opinion, in Mr. Chou's articles, several main theses on formal logic and on the relationship between formal logic and dialectics are erroneous; basically, I agree with the criticisms of Messrs. I and Shen. Nonetheless, I believe that Mr. Chou's errors have had their source in the theory of cognition in that he has unilateralized and absolutized certain aspects that were originally correct, thus leading himself in the wrong direction. Maas' book is the seventh issue of volume IX of "Sammlung zwangloser Abhandlungen aus dem Gebiete der Verdauungs-u. Stoffwechselkrankheiten" (ed. by Prof. Strauss. Berlin). The book contains no new facts and studies, but it is a good summary of all that has been published in the literature about growth disorders and bone diseases depending on the dysfunction of the endocrine glands.

Astronomischer Jahresbericht

THIS volume is the seventh issue of a series of most useful compilations, and it is a matter of deep regret that the founder and chief worker of such an admirable publication is no longer with us. Herr Walter Friedrich Wislicenus died last year on October 3, but, as we are told by Dr. Walter de Gruyter in a brief obituary notice, he contributed a considerable portion of the present volume. The frontispiece to this issue, therefore, fittingly presents us with an excellent portrait of the founder, whose place is now taken by Herr A. Berberich.
