Poisoning QoS-aware cloud API recommender system with generative adversarial network attack

With the proliferation and deepening of service-oriented architecture, more and more enterprises and organizations are exposing their computing functions and big data to the Internet in the form of cloud APIs to support service-oriented software development. This has resulted in a plethora of cloud APIs with similar functionality appearing on the Web, drowning users in a sea of cloud API choices. To solve this problem, quality of service (QoS)-aware recommender system is then widely applied to the selection of cloud APIs. Due to the dynamic and open network environment, the QoS-aware cloud API recommender systems are vulnerable to data poisoning attacks, where attackers inject poisoned data to skew the recommender system and make the recommendation direction follow the attacker's will. Given the lack of data poisoning attack methods and robustness analysis for existing QoS-aware cloud API recommender systems, in this work, we first built a general poisoning attack framework for QoS-aware cloud API recommender systems to elucidate and standardize the attack process. Then, we proposed a deep learning-based poison attack approach, which uses generative adversarial network (GAN) to learn the cloud API QoS data distribution of real users in an adversarial way, so as to generate high-quality fake user attack vectors. We conducted extensive experiments on real-world QoS datasets, and the experimental results show that our proposed GAN-based poisoning attack is effective and can better hide itself from being detected. In addition, we analyzed the data poisoning attack mechanism and the robustness of the cloud API recommender system based on four categories of twelve recommendation methods, thereby raising awareness about the security of cloud API recommendation and helping the recommender system defenders to develop more targeted defense strategies.

The foundation for future education, teaching, training, learning, and performing infrastructure - The open interoperability conceptual framework approach

The proliferation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education, Teaching, Training, Learning, and the operational application (Performing) of acquired knowledge, skills, and competencies in contemporary social environments has directly influenced the transformation of early Networked Learning (NL) concepts into a Global Learning Infrastructure. Creating cooperative/collaborative stakeholders networks composed of learning subjects, objects, and competencies consumers, exposes the significant potential for gaining overall social progress. The main challenging obstacles of such globalization are: embedding semantics into the competence credentials carriers, trusted dissemination of verifiable competence tokens, the heterogeneous ontologies mapping, and sustainable service delivery infrastructure.The mainstream motivation of our research is the specification and development of a conceptual framework that fosters the interoperability of different stakeholders, whether individual or institutional, to declare, share and maintain the representative collections of information resources related to the particular Education, Learning, Teaching, Training, and Performing (Research, Development, Production, and Service) endeavors.In this article, we have specified an open, heterogeneous, interoperable conceptual framework capable of orchestrating past, current, and future paradigms to foster building the foundations for comparative analysis and evaluation of traditional and nontraditional competency-building processes, joined with students' portfolio creation, dissemination, and management. It is a starting specification that would serve for the future: open, heterogeneous, cooperative/collaborative, service-oriented software framework specification and development.

A novel knowledge graph embedding based API recommendation method for Mashup development

Web API is an efficient and cost-effective method for service-oriented software development, and Mashup is a popular technology which combines multiple services to create more powerful services to address the increasing complexity of business requirements and speed up the software development process. Here, accurate and efficient API recommendation is vital for successful Mashup development. Currently, many existing methods combine various technologies and adopt diverse features, which results in complex models at the cost of higher computational overhead but with very limited improvement on recommendation accuracy. To address such an issue, in this paper, we propose an unsupervised API recommendation method based on deep random walks on knowledge graph. Specifically, we first construct a refined knowledge graph utilizing Mashup-API co-invocation patterns and service category attributes, and then we learn implicit low-dimensional embedding representations of entities from truncated random walks by treating walks as the equivalent of sentences. Meanwhile, to improve the recommendation accuracy, we design an entity bias procedure to reflect different entity preference (namely API-based neighborhood or Mashup-based neighborhood). Finally, we estimate the relevance between Mashup requirements and the existing services (Mashups and APIs) to obtain the API recommendation list. Since the API recommendation results can be obtained through unsupervised feature learning, automatic API recommendation can be provided for Mashup developers in real time. Comprehensive experimental results on a real-world dataset demonstrate that our proposed method can outperform several state-of-the-art methods in both recommendation accuracy and efficiency.

Mining Domain Knowledge on Service Goals from Textual Service Descriptions

With the rapid development of service-oriented computing, a large number of software applications have been developed based on the services computing framework. It is well known that software engineering is a knowledge-intensive activity, and thus the effective management of service-related knowledge facilitates service-oriented software development. Although many methodologies have been proposed for service-oriented knowledge management, little attention has been paid to mining knowledge (especially domain-specific functionalities) from service resources. To address this issue, we propose an approach to mine domain knowledge on service goals (i.e., service functionalities) from textual descriptions of services. The approach consists of two components: service goal extraction from textual service descriptions based on linguistic analysis and domain service goal construction that merges semantically similar service goals within a domain. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated by a series of experiments conducted on a real-world dataset crawled from the ProgrammableWeb.

Review of Architectural Patterns and Tactics for Microservices in Academic and Industrial Literature

Microservices are an emerging trend for development of service-oriented software. This approach proposes to build each application as a collection of small services running on separate process and inter-communicating with lightweight mechanisms. Systematic development of microservices is hampered by the lack of a catalog of emerging recurrent architectural solutions (architectural patterns) and design decisions (architectural tactics). This article describes a systematic review of academic and industrial literature regarding architectural patterns and architectural tactics for microservices. The review yield 44 architectural patterns in academic sources and 74 in industrial ones, as well as a few architectural tactics originally proposed to address related problems. Most architectural patterns and tactics are associated to one of just five quality attributes: scalability, flexibility, testability, performance, and elasticity. Also, most microservices in academic (but not industrial) literature are related to DevOps and IoT. The findings lead to propose a new taxonomy of microservice architectural patterns.

Flexible model specification and application for service-oriented software

Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) has gained considerable popularity for the development of large-scale distributed software systems. The SOA paradigm promotes the reusability and integrability of software in heterogeneous environments by means of open standards. The existing problem is that every service-oriented software development project often requires a customized development process that provides specific service-oriented software in support of requirements unique to that project. To resolve this problem, this study proposes universal service-oriented software (USOS). USOS focuses on the general simulation technology and integrates many features, which are necessary to build a correct and efficient simulation system. It is aimed at providing a professional environment to reduce the cost of modeling as well as the execution time of the simulation for multi-type models. USOS supports many advanced features such as dynamic model template generation, multi-formalism model debugging, flexible model-driven application, etc. Developers may use USOS as an open framework to build, store, and verify models very efficiently. Based on USOS, we have developed a large-scale parallel simulation platform called SIM, which is oriented to test parallel and distributed architectures, and applications in the aerospace domain. This study introduces the distinctive features of USOS for practical implementation of SIM and validates the performance by a prototype system simulation.

An Evolutive Component-Based Method for Agile Development of Service Oriented Architectures

The adoption of the agile methods' principles has emerged as an effective way to develop service oriented architectures as it paves the way for a better reply to the changing needs of the environment and even the customer. However, these changes may also require the evolution of the development process itself. This paper presents an agile and service-oriented software development method that combines concepts from the Service-Oriented Computing (SOC) domain and the agile software engineering one. This method provides an iterative and incremental process to deliverer business processes, implemented as an assembly of components. This leads to a faster response to the change of needs by reconfiguring the assembly of components. The method is based on a framework that implements its phases as an assembly of components to allow a dynamic reconfiguration of it in case of a development process evolution. Finally, a case study is presented to illustrate the use of the presented method.

Penerapan Service Engineering Framework Pada Arsitektur Sistem Berorientasi Service

The Service Engineering (SE) is understood as a framework to create innovative services in application development of information technology approach to Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). Implementing SOA is required methodology to identify services that can be used again in the application and organization of a company. in this research, software development model used is object-oriented methodologies, SOA itself is a collection consisting of tools, technologies, frameworks, and best practices that facilitate the implementation of a service quickly. in a study this uses the tools of Business Process Management System (BPMS) to support the implementation of service-oriented software. the purpose of this study is to produce a model of activities and artifacts of the application software development models of the SE with a case study Rate Loans. Validation to the design of the model is done through testing of the software produced. The results showed that the application of the SE in the development of service-oriented software can use the object-oriented methodology by providing additional value-added analysis and redesign of business processes to be implemented on a BPMS. BPMS usage of the application of the SE on the SOA has the advantage of visualization in the management of business processes.

Fast Service Process Fragment Indexing and Ranking

Service searching and ranking are the bases of service-oriented software development. However, the existing service searching and ranking methods are confined to the atomic services or processes encapsulated as stand-alone services. How to find and reuse arbitrary granularities of service process fragment (SPF) is a challenging problem with great application value. In this paper, we propose a new mechanism to support searching and ranking on massive SPF s. In this mechanism, SPF s are organized by a tree, where both the functional and non-functional information of SPF s are encoded and stored on each tree node. Then, starting from the tree root, an integrated searching and ranking process is recursively conducted on each tree layer, excluding a great deal of irrelevant SPF s each time, until leaf nodes are reached. To verify the feasibility and effectiveness, we construct a sample dataset which contains four million processes and one billion atomic services based on the Web Service Challenge Testset Generator (CTG) , and each atomic service has up to 10 QoS values. The experimental results show an effective and efficient approach for SPF- Query.

A systematic composite service design modeling method using graph-based theory.

The composite service design modeling is an essential process of the service-oriented software development life cycle, where the candidate services, composite services, operations and their dependencies are required to be identified and specified before their design. However, a systematic service-oriented design modeling method for composite services is still in its infancy as most of the existing approaches provide the modeling of atomic services only. For these reasons, a new method (ComSDM) is proposed in this work for modeling the concept of service-oriented design to increase the reusability and decrease the complexity of system while keeping the service composition considerations in mind. Furthermore, the ComSDM method provides the mathematical representation of the components of service-oriented design using the graph-based theoryto facilitate the design quality measurement. To demonstrate that the ComSDM method is also suitable for composite service design modeling of distributed embedded real-time systems along with enterprise software development, it is implemented in the case study of a smart home. The results of the case study not only check the applicability of ComSDM, but can also be used to validate the complexity and reusability of ComSDM. This also guides the future research towards the design quality measurement such as using the ComSDM method to measure the quality of composite service design in service-oriented software system.

From project-oriented to service-oriented software development: an industrial experience guided by a service reference model

In organizations with software systems in production, new and often unexpected requirements for development come up due to strategic, tactical, and operational customer needs. In this context, it is a strategic advantage for software suppliers to be able to provide software services that meet these demands faster and with less overhead than negotiating traditional value-neutral project-oriented software deliveries. This article reports on the industrial experience of restructuring the supplier-side software development process into a value-based service-oriented format, guided by a service reference model. A service level agreement (SLA) was established between supplier and customer reflecting the business needs and values. The report describes the contractual aspects and internal managerial controls employed to facilitate the compliance of the provided services with the SLA, including the integrated use of a managerial spreadsheet, an issue-tracking system, and a Kanban chart. The feasibility and results of restructuring software development into a service-oriented format are evaluated. Major results were that only moderate effort was required, around one person month, due to the support of the service reference model and a sufficient level of previously installed capabilities, and that the goals regarding improved quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction were successfully achieved. Additionally we discuss stakeholder needs, the support from the service reference model, the lessons learned, and the success factors for such restructuring. Restructuring software development in the format of continuous service delivery, guided by a service reference model, is feasible and for suitable contexts can provide significant benefits concerning quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

A Review of Requirement Engineering Issues and Challenges in Various Software Development Methods

Requirement Engineering (RE) is a systemic and integrated process of eliciting, elaborating, negotiating, prioritizing, specifying, validating and managing the requirements of a system. The detailed and agreed requirements are documented and specified to serve as the basis for further system development activities. The software industry has moved from traditional software development method to service oriented software development. While many researchers and practitioners have observed issues and challenges in Requirement Engineering phase specific to a software method, very little attention has been given to investigate diversity of issues and challenges of RE in different software development methods under one umbrella. This paper tries to review significant issues and challenges of RE from traditional software development method to recent service oriented software development method. The study unveils that there is a wide scope for developing new approaches and techniques in requirement engineering to resolve problems observed in various SE methods. What makes service oriented requirements engineering challenging? A qualitative study

The focus of Service Oriented Software Development (SOSD) is to develop software by integrating reusable services to lower the required cost, time and effort of development and increase reusability, agility, quality and customer satisfaction. It has been recognised in the literature that SOSD faces various challenges especially in requirements engineering (RE). The objective of this study is to investigate these challenges of Service Oriented RE (SORE) from practitioners' perspectives in order to gain a deeper understanding of the related issues and to reveal potential gaps between research and practice in SORE. They present a qualitative study of the challenges and issues in SORE. The data were collected by conducting interviews with practitioners working in IT companies in Sydney, who have had substantial experience with service oriented software projects. The authors findings reveal that most of the challenges of SORE are similar to those that are faced during RE in traditional or component-based software development. According to the practitioners, the research and practice has made some advances in the technical direction but the human related issues in SORE have not been addressed adequately.

A Survey on Workflow Verifications of Petri Nets based Service Process Management

Service process management is a cross-discipline research topic, including computer science, management technology and economics. How to effectively integrate service resources to meet customer demands becomes a key problem to service-oriented software development. Most of existing works are in the early research stage. The scope of process management consists of process design, process execution, process mining, and process intelligence. However, it requires process modeling, which is a crucial precondition in the lifecycle of service process management. In this paper, it reviews workflow verifications of Petri Nets based service process management. First, the workflow and description supporting tools are introduced. Then, considering the composite service is an effective way to organize third-party business functions seamlessly, the Petri Nets based service workflow employed to formalizing composition behaviors is discussed. Third, components encapsulated in the composite service may be encountered functional and non-functional problems since services are offered by different organizations. The functional verification includes the correctness, reachability and safety. The non-functional verification is to evaluate the performance of Petri Nets based workflow model ranging over timed constraints and probabilistic behaviors. Therefore, it summarizes Petri Nets based workflow verification techniques to guarantee the quality of services composition. In conclusion, this survey provides academic references to researchers and developers in service computing and process management.

Service-oriented Software Development and Management: A CASE Tool-based Approach

In order to realize Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) with Web Services (WSs), a new engineering approach is required; we refer to it as Service-Oriented Software Engineering (SOSE). This approach would sketch out a method, including a process, models, languages, tools, and notations. It encompasses three dimensions: (i) services, (ii) compositions, and (iii) management of both services and compositions. The existing methods have not considered the three perspectives neither they have considered how these perspectives can be achieved together through a comprehensive approach. This paper presents an architecture, a specification, and an implementation of a CASE tool for developing and managing Service-Oriented Software (SOS). The CASE implements: (1) a metadata that represents WSs from four perspectives: description, deployment platforms, legacy systems, and composite software, and (2) a set of management artifacts built on top of the metadata. The metadata is implemented as repository, the core component of the CASE tool architecture.

Service identification guideline for developing distributed embedded real-time systems

Analysis and design are the key phases in any software development life cycle. Service identification is one of the most important steps performed in the analysis phase of service-oriented software development life cycle. Service-orientation has been applied successfully in the domain of distributed embedded real-time system because of the advantages it provides such as reusability and interoperability. However, a systematic service-oriented development methodology for distributed embedded real-time system is still missing. A step-by-step guideline for service identification is presented in this study as part of an attempt to define the analysis phase of service-oriented software development life cycle for distributed embedded real-time system. The Smart Home case study is applied to verify the guidelines. This study provides profound descriptions on how to identify services for distributed embedded real-time system. Moreover, this work can be used as a first step towards a systematic service-oriented software development life cycle for distributed embedded real-time systems.

Enhancing the OPEN Process Framework with service-oriented method fragments

Service orientation is a promising paradigm that enables the engineering of large-scale distributed software systems using rigorous software development processes. The existing problem is that every service-oriented software development project often requires a customized development process that provides specific service-oriented software engineering tasks in support of requirements unique to that project. To resolve this problem and allow situational method engineering, we have defined a set of method fragments in support of the engineering of the project-specific service-oriented software development processes. We have derived the proposed method fragments from the recurring features of 11 prominent service-oriented software development methodologies using a systematic mining approach. We have added these new fragments to the repository of OPEN Process Framework to make them available to software engineers as reusable fragments using this well-known method repository.

Assessing Internal Software Quality Attributes of the Object-Oriented and Service-Oriented Software Development Paradigms: A Comparative Study

Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is becoming the dominant approach for developing and organizing distributed enterprise-wide applications. Although the concepts of SOA have been extensively described in the literature and in-dustry, the effects of adopting SOA on software quality are still unclear. The aim of the paper is to analyze how adopt-ing SOA can affect software quality as opposed to the Object-Oriented (OO) paradigm and expose the differential implications of adopting both paradigms on software quality. The paper provides a brief introduction of the architectural differences between the Service-Oriented (SO) and OO paradigms and a description of internal software quality metrics used for the comparison. The effects and differences are exposed by providing a case study architected for both paradigms. The quantitative measure concluded in the paper showed that a software system developed using SOA approach provides higher reusability and lower coupling among software modules, but at the same time higher complexity than those of the OO approach. It was also found that some of the existing OO software quality metrics are inapplicable to SOA software systems. As a consequence, new metrics need to be developed specifically to SOA software systems.

ABSTRACT Software product line engineering is an approach to creating core assets by systematically exploits common that can be highly reusableand different characteristics in related system families that is domain. By adapting this approachin object and component paradigm, software productivity is extended. Recently, Software development paradigm is changed to service oriented paradigm which is using services that are core assets. Therefore, to develop service oriented software more flexible, systematic and to enhance business agility about business changes, we need adaptation of product line to creation of services that are core assets. In this paper, we propose an approach to create and specify domain service through combine of product line and service oriented paradigm. Domain service explicitly specifies commonality and variability by domain service common/optional property variability, operation type variability, message type variability.
