In this study, a semi-blind channel estimation algorithm for uplink multiuser orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with receiver diversity is proposed. The proposed algorithm combines simple multiuser channel estimates obtained from pilot subcarriers with subspace-based channel estimates to obtain accurate estimates for the multiuser channel gains. Minimum mean square error linear diversity combining is then performed based on the estimated channel. Simulation results show that a performance gain in excess of 1–2 dB is achievable by the proposed approach.
