ANALYSIS OF FACTORS THAT AFFECT TO INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT OF SYUKURAN AMINUDDIN AMIR AIRPORT IN BANGGAI DISTRICT

The airport is one of the important infrastructures in the air transportation field that functions to provide aircraft flight services so that there is a need for compatibility between the fleet and its infrastructure, in this case improving the infrastructure of Syukuranan Aminuddin Amir (SAA) Airport. The aim of this study is to analyze the factors that influence the improvement of the infrastructure of SAA Airport. The location of the study was conducted at the SAA Airport, Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi Province. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires to 120 respondent passengers on airplanes who use the SAA airport. Data analysis using factor analysis methods. The analysis result shows there are 11 factors that affect infrastructure improvement of SAA Airport is socio-economic, airport service quality, operator service quality, flight traffic demand, air transport service demand, air transportation mode selection, airport departure facility (waiting room) and airplane ticket purchase decisions, parking area and waiting room, flight schedule and potential regional commodity yields, service and process baggage handling, and transportation accessibility to the airport.

Internet based elastic logistics platforms for fashion quick response systems in the digital era

Quick response (QR) systems, which aim to respond promptly to market changes by postponing inventory decisions with a reduced lead time, are critical to support fast fashion operations. Under QR systems, in the digital data analytics era, the fashion brand can acquire market information using digital technologies to improve demand forecasting. This enhances the respective ordering and transportation mode selection decisions. It is known that to implement QR systems requires the availability of the right logistics option (e.g., transportation mode) and the needed logistics capacity in the future. An Internet based elastic logistics platform (ELP) hence emerges to help. In this paper, in the main model, we analytically derive via stochastic dynamic programming the optimal transportation option selection and inventory ordering policy with the ELP. We further examine the value of ELP and identify the situations in which it is especially beneficial to adopt it. Robustness checking is conducted which proves that the theoretical findings derived in the main model are solid. Specific managerial action plans and managerial implications are developed.

Maritime supply chain sustainability: South-East Finland case study

Emphasis on sustainability practices is growing globally in the shipping industry due to regulations on emissions from transportation as well as increasing customer demand for sustainability. This research aims to shed light on the environmental sustainability of companies involved in maritime logistics at the major Finnish seaport, HaminaKotka. This seaport is a part of International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Baltic and North Sea emission control area, with special emission-reducing measures contributing directly to United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by mitigating negative impacts of industrial activity on environment and climate change. Two semi-structured interviews with companies at HaminaKotka were carried out to construct a case study examining the sustainability challenges at hand. In addition, experience of one of the authors in a managerial position at the studied seaport complex, as well as the sustainability communications of the companies situated in the area were used to support the findings. The companies improve environmental sustainability by using multimodal transport chains, alternative fuels in the transports, and environmental sustainability demands towards their partners. However, the most important measures, according to these companies, are transport mode selection and cargo load optimization. Moreover, companies have identified bottlenecks of cargo flow at the hinterland due to road infrastructure constraints. As regulations and customers are requiring environmental sustainability, companies are forced to renew their operations, strategy and business models. Especially, the emission-reducing regulations drive companies to implement means to control the produced emissions.

Analisis Transportasi Siswa Menuju Sekolah dan Arahan Pengembangannya di Kota Bogor

School is one system activities that generates movement and will attract movement from settlements as student residence. The objectives of this research are, to analyze the attraction of school students, to analyze the factors that influence the selection of public transport modes towards schools, analyzing the selection of student public transport modes and to formulate the direction for effective plan for developing school transportation in Bogor City. The methods used are flow mapping method, binary logistic regression method, proximity analysis, and descriptive analysis. The results show that the attraction of elementary students is sufficiently appropriate because they followed the zoning regulation which can be seen from the majority of students come from designated zone, while the result of junior high school student’s attraction show relatively insufficient because the majority of the students come from outside the designated zones. The estimation results of factors that significantly influence the choice of modes of transportation are gender, school distance, travel time, costs, consideration of costs, consideration of walking, and consideration of time. Half of elementary school students use angkot by 51% and 49% others students used other modes towards school. Most junior high school students also use angkot by 73% and 27% others students used other modes. The direction of school transportation development is focused on implementing a zoning system that is maximally implemented so that the movement of students to school is more organized and deviding of school clusters so that the school bus service will run effectively.

Differences in Levels of Autonomy and Fitness of Elementary School Students Based on Transportation Mode

It is known that in addition to biking and walking, many students who prefer to be taken by parents or use an online motorcycle taxi to go to school. Generally, going to school using a bicycle is an alternative means of transportation that is preferred, but because of the lack of parking lots of students who ultimately prefer to be picked up and dropped off. In addition, parenting parents who are too protective of children to require children to be picked up when going to school also indirectly have an unfavorable impact on the child's level of fitness and independence. Whereas for elementary school children, the level of fitness and independence are things that must be developed for their future survival. Children must understand the importance of physical activity and implement it in their lives. For example, children who go to school, they must be more able to think about how to move their body to get to school rather than just relying on the transfer of parents. By walking to school, will increase physical activity of children. Therefore, researchers are then interested in conducting further research. The results of this study are that there are significant differences in the fitness variable of transportation used with a significance level of 0,000 and an F value of 21,914 with a mean difference of 73,393. Walking is the most dominant factor to improve fitness compared to cycling and parents take a motorbike ride to and from school. As for the independence variable there is no significant difference in the mode of transportation used with a significance value of 0.414 with an F value of 0.890. The conclusion of the research is the use of modes of transportation to the right school can increase children's fitness. Walking is the best transportation to improve fitness then followed by cycling and parents take a ride on a motorcycle. However, to increase a significant independence, it is still not possible to use transportation mode selection because parental care is the determining factor for children's independence other than the education system in schools and the surrounding environment.

Optimal Purchasing Policy for Fresh Products from Multiple Supply Sources with Considerations of Random Delivery Times, Risk, and Information

ABSTRACTWe consider a problem in which a distributor purchases fresh products from multiple supply sources for subsequent sale at a wholesale market. Due to uncontrollable factors such as traffic congestion or bad weather conditions, the time taken for the product to be delivered from each production origin is uncertain. As the wholesale market is open for trading only in a fixed‐time window, any fresh products arriving earlier face the risk of decay, and any arriving later cannot be sold. The market demand for the product is random and follows a general distribution. We formulate the basic problem as a multi‐source selection model with random yield, taking into account the trade‐off between purchasing cost and other costs such as deterioration loss arising from delivery uncertainty. We derive the optimal order quantities from different origins and propose algorithms to search for them. We also investigate the effects of delivery uncertainty on service level and transport mode selection. Finally, we examine two extensions. One considers a capacity limit in each production origin, and the other incorporates information updating. For the first extension, we propose algorithms to compute the optimal solution based on its structural properties. For the second problem, we derive the optimal purchasing policy according to updated information such as details of the arrivals of previous orders.

Network resilience modelling: a New Zealand forestry supply chain case

PurposeThe objective of this research is to model supply chain network resilience for low frequency high impact disruptions. The outputs are aimed at providing policy and practitioner guidance on ways to enhance supply chain resilience.Design/methodology/approachThe research models the resilience of New Zealand's log export logistical network. A two-tier approach is developed; linear programming is used to model the aggregate-level resilience of the nation's ports, then discrete event simulation is used to evaluate operational constraints and validate the capacity of operational flows from forests to ports.FindingsThe synthesis of linear programming and discrete event simulation provide a holistic approach to evaluate supply chain resilience and enhance operational efficiency. Strategically increasing redundancy can be complimented with operational flexibility to enhance network resilience in the long term.Research limitations/implicationsThe two-tier modelling approach has only been applied to New Zealand's log export supply chains, so further applications are needed to insure reliability. The requirement for large quantities of empirical data relating to operational flows limited the simulation component to a single regionPractical implicationsNew Zealand's log export supply chain has low resilience; in most cases the closure of a port significantly constrains export capacity. Strategic selection of location and transportation mode by foresters and log exporters can significantly enhance the resilience of their supply chains.Originality/valueThe use of a two-tiered analytical approach enhances validity as each level's limitations and assumptions are addressed when combined with one another. Prior predominantly theoretical research in the field is validated by the empirical investigation of supply chain resilience.

A multi-level programming for shale gas-water supply chains accounting for tradeoffs between economic and environmental concerns

This study develops a multi-level programming model for planning the shale gas-water supply chains. A set of leader-follower-interactive objectives with emphases of water consumption, economic performance, and pollutant discharge are integrated into a sequential decision-making process. Satisfactory degree is introduced to tackle the computationally challenging problem based on an interactive fuzzy approach. Operational decisions regarding water resources allocation, transportation mode selection, and pollutant discharge control would be achieved. Results reveal that the environmentally- or economically-aggressive strategies would be generated when a single goal for optimizing economic benefits or pollutant discharge. The multi-objective decisions are limited by the selected weights. However, the multi-level model would provide more comprehensive schemes due to its sequential consideration of the economic/environmental concerns. Findings from the multi-level model can facilitate (a) balancing the conflicts among different decision makers, (b) timing and siting for shale gas production, and (c) managing water resources for pollutant discharge control.

This study aims to determine the impact of price changes in maritime transport, which is one of the most important elements in international trade, on the monetary rate of transport mode usage of Turkey in export and import activities. The maritime transport cost items used are represented by China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI), Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) and Istanbul Freight Index (ISTFIX). Asymmetric causality analysis is used to determine the causal relationships between the variables, which allows to determine causalities between the shocks by separating them as positive and negative. The data set used in this study covers the periods between November 2010 and July 2018 and consists of 93 monthly observations. According to the results obtained, there are significant asymmetric causalities from maritime transport costs to all modes of transport except for railway. These results play a complementary role in the related literature by providing an econometric determination of the importance of transportation costs in transportation mode selection decisions.

Factors Affecting Mode Choice in Accessing Railway Station Study in Nakhon Ratchasima

This paper explores the travel mode selection in accessing the railway station. Because the accessibility services were outstandingly undeveloped for over a decade, it is contradicting the growth rate of population and travel demand. Mode choice investigation would explain the practical suggestion of traveler's behavior. The study will give the result of significant factors, which affected mode choice behavior in the specific study area by using field survey and questioners interview method. The binary logistic regression analysis is the core of the study, another technique, a hierarchical technique, will be applied to gain model performance. The satisfaction factors are representing traveler experience in transport modes accessing the railway station tested in modeling processes. Thus, the results can contribute to a better understanding of the significant factors of transport mode selection, and moreover, the expectation for long term management and improvement of the public transport systems.

Analysis of the Choice of Transportation Mode for Cross-border Supply Chain Based on the Belt and Road

This paper studies the transportation mode selection of cross-border supply chain under the “the Belt and Road” to find the most suitable transportation mode for cross-border transportation. At first, the overall priority of marine transport and railway transportation is analyzed by analytic hierarchy process, but the analytic hierarchy process has shortcomings and limitations. Therefore, by introducing fuzzy analytic hierarchy process, the complexity of judging the relative importance of the target is simplified, by using the ambiguity of the judgment matrix and the simplicity of the calculation, the deficiencies of the analytic hierarchy method are solved. This paper chooses the optimization idea by considering the cost, running time, transportation capacity and flexibility as the main target transportation mode, according to the characteristics of quantitative and qualitative indicators, the fuzzy hierarchy analysis method is used to establish the hierarchical structure model. Finally, the fuzzy consistent matrix is established to calculate and analyze the optimal solution.

Energy Transition for Sustainable Transportation System: Graphical Approach

Transportation is one of the significant contributors of GHG and air pollutants, from both the tank to well and well to wheel cycle. This study aims to introduce a graphical approach to mapping the circumstances where the energy transition offers a lower emission. The proposed method is demonstrated by a case study of the EU condition (EU-28, Latvia and Sweden). Assessed energy sources to power transportation are electricity, compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, diesel and biodiesel. This approach facilitates the transport mode selection (road, rail, sea) and the understanding of how electricity mix or renewable energies influence the energy transition. The environmental oriented approach can be improved in a future study by integrating the economic perspective.

Development of a multi-objective model for the design of sustainable supply chains: the case of perishable food products

The role of sustainability in the function of a company and more specifically a food company is pivotal for its financial performance. The environmental issues as well as the potential economic gains from the implementation of its principles ask for the use of multiple instruments that have been developed to green supply chains. Moreover, social issues also arise and involve the food companies social responsibility, as this can be realized through the supply of fresh products that meet consumption security standards. On this basis, the strategic design of these companies’ supply chains can assists them towards meeting their sustainability objectives as it may lead to the selection of transportation modes, location of entry points and distribution centers, and flows between the nodes of the networks under cost, environmental and social impact minimization criteria. Under this context the purpose of this manuscript is to develop and employ a multi-objective (namely cost, social-time and emission minimization) mixed integer linear programming decision-making model for the network design of sustainable supply chains of perishable food products. The specific model was implemented in the case of a fruits importer in the North-Eastern European region considering its geographical settings. To synopsize and according to our findings the suggested model is an easy to use decision-making tool that leads to a whole set of possible solutions incorporating trade-offs between three aspects of sustainability.

Integrated Network Design of Agile Resource-Efficient Supply Chains Under Uncertainty

We present a novel method for supply chain network (SCN) design under uncertainty that jointly solves the candidate selection, the order allocation, and the transportation mode selection problems. In the proposed method, four steps are executed in cascade. First, a cross-efficiency fuzzy data envelopment analysis technique ranks the candidates of each SCN stage in a multiobjective perspective and under uncertain data. Second, a fuzzy linear integer programming model determines the supplies required from each actor by those belonging to the subsequent SCN stage. This step determines the best compromise between candidates' efficiencies, estimated costs, and delivery time, considering stock levels and uncertain capacity of actors, while satisfying customers' uncertain demand. The third step evaluates the efficiency of the transportation alternatives under uncertain data to optimally plan the transport chain. Finally, the fourth step measures the performance of the designed SCN. The method provides as a result an integrated, agile, and resource-efficient design of the SCN under uncertainty. Its application to a case study shows it is effective in selecting the SCN partners, assigning the corresponding order quantities, and delivering them to customers. Validation is obtained by comparison with well-known approaches and statistical analysis.

A model for the selection of transportation modes in the context of sustainable freight transportation

PurposeA sustainable freight transportation system involves freight processes that are economically efficient, socially inclusive and environment friendly. For enhancing sustainability in the freight operations, mode selection is a crucial strategic decision. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is selecting the best mode, or a combination of modes based on various criteria to carry shipments from origin to destination.Design/methodology/approachThis study has used an integrated grey relational analysis based intuitionistic fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making process (GRA–IFP) and fuzzy multi-objective linear programming model. Three scenarios have been developed for analyzing sensitivity of decision variables with the variations in parameters under relevant conditions. A real case of Indian third-party logistics service provider has been used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the model.FindingsThe most relevant criterion emerged out in this study for multi-mode selection problem is costs. It can be concluded from the study that multi-modal freight transportation has the potential to improve the sustainability of freight transportation by reducing the costs, damages, emissions, traffic congestion and by increasing the speed of delivering the shipment. The sensitivity analysis further shows that road is the economical mode, whereas sea and rail together are the greenest as well as socially responsible modes of transportation.Originality/valueThis study provides an integrated tool, which can be used by freight transporters to decide upon the sustainable modes of transportation for their various shipments.

Minimising energy consumption and environmental burden of freight transport using a novel graphical decision-making tool

This study introduces a new graphical decision-making tool to facilitate the rapid selection of transportation modes with minimum energy consumption or emissions, indicating the most sustainable transportation mode. Greenhouse gas (GHG) and air pollutants (NOx, PM and SO2), together with a composite price-weighted total environmental burden (TEB), are considered in the analysis. The graphical tool, which has a similar appearance to a phase diagram, presents a map of energy use (or emission) of different transportation modes based on the values of the ratio of the transportation distances (R) and the absolute load (L). A freight transportation case study (Rotterdam to Antwerp and Genova) demonstrates the construction and application of the graphical tool. For this case study, the electric train is the transport mode that offers the lowest energy consumption and minimum TEB. The graphical decision tool can also indicate the next-best solutions when one or more options (e.g. electric train) are not available. In this scenario, general cargo shipping achieves the lowest GHG emission, but heavy lorry imposes the lowest TEB. The developed tool further demonstrates the impacts of possible future fuels and technology developments on transportation selection, including renewable biodiesel and transport electrification under different grid mixes (e.g. Latvia, Sweden and EU-28). Further criteria, including economics, can be included for future study using the proposed tool as a foundation. The graphical approach transforms the transport selection problem into an easily understandable format from which arises sound solutions.

Analisis Karakteristik Penggunaan Moda Akses Bandara Internasional Yogyakarta

The new Yogyakarta International Airport began operations with an airport area of 645.63 hectares with a capacity of 14 million passengers a year. Access to the Yogyakarta international airport is distributed to 4 routes to the airport at Wates national road, Karangnongko road, the Southern Cross Road, Daendels road which is using the railroad mode. This study uses revealed preference analysis which is the approach by conveying a fact choice statement to be given an assessment by the respondent. The sample collection is assumed by the peak passenger of the Adisucipto airport, because the Yogyakarta International Airport is recently opened. It is expected to be able to represent demand predictions at the Yogyakarta International airport in the future. The results of the questionnaire were then processed by using statistical analysis to determine the factors that influence the selection of transportation modes to and from the airport. In research, the factors that influence mode choice are travel costs, travel time, travel distance, and generalized costs. The results illustrate that prospective air transport users are more dominant in choosing travel cost attributes compared to other attributes that influence. With the coefficient of determination is 0.528 and the results of data analysis for the selection of mode of transportation using private vehicles is 57% and public transportation is 43%..

A mixed-integer program and a Lagrangian-based decomposition algorithm for the supply chain network design with quantity discount and transportation modes

We study the design of a two-echelon supply chain network in the presence of suppliers’ all-unit quantity discount and transportation mode selection. The problem involves determining the best location for plants and the allocation of customers to open plants. The problem additionally entails making decisions for the order quantity from each supplier for each plant and accordingly selecting the best transportation mode that can accommodate these order quantities among echelons. The objective is to minimize the total cost associated with fixed opening and operating costs of plants, fixed and variable costs of transportation modes, and purchasing costs of raw materials. To characterize and solve this problem, we develop a mixed-integer programming (MIP) model. We demonstrate that the MIP model has a special mathematical structure that makes it amenable to decomposition techniques. We, therefore, exploit this decomposable structure and develop an effective Lagrangian-based decomposition for solving the MIP. Our Lagrangian Relaxation (LR) method relaxes the complicating constraints associated with commodity flow conservation among echelons in the MIP, yielding more tractable subproblems, one for each echelon. Solutions obtained from the relaxed problem may be infeasible, e.g., the demand for some of the customers may not be satisfied. We remedy these subproblems’ infeasibilities using novel feasibility algorithms and appropriate Lagrangian multipliers that penalize constraints’ violations in the subproblems, leading the algorithm towards global feasibility/optimality. We appraise the performance of the MIP model and the LR algorithm on instances of varying sizes. We show that the MIP model solved via CPLEX finds integer feasible solutions for 42% of large problem instances and its average optimality gap for these solved instances is 64.56%. The LR algorithm significantly improves the solvability and optimality gap of the MIP model and finds integer feasible solutions for 100% of problem instances and achieves an average optimality gap of 1.78%. We investigate the robustness of our algorithm by conducting sensitivity analyses on the model parameters. We demonstrate that the LR technique remains robust and tractable with respect to various parameters’ values.

The Analysis of Ability to Pay (ATP) and Willingness to Pay (WTP) on Light Rail Transit (LRT) Tariff in Palembang

Light Rail Transit (LRT) is an alternative mode to overcome transportation problems in Palembang. The travel cost factor is assumed to be a major factor in the selection of transportation mode. It is necessary to do research about how much ability to pay (ATP) and willingness to pay (WTP) toward LRT planned tariff. In this study, the data were collected by interviewing people. There were 400 respondents from scattered area in sixteen (16) sub-districts in Palembang. The data was collected by using multistage random and purposive sampling with questionnaires as the instrument as well as using household budget and perception methods as statistical analysis. The data collected in the form of respondent characteristics, travel characteristics and perception of tariff. The analysis result shows the average ATP was 543 IDR/passenger-km and the average WTP was 412 IDR/passenger-km. The ideal LRT rate based on ATP and WTP analysis was below IDR 10,000 and maximum IDR 13,300 for the furthest distance from the airport to Jakabaring Sport City with a progressive payment system per km. The subsidized tariff scenario is up to IDR. 5,000 and will create 93% of passengers per day. From 93% of the passengers, about 65,8% passengers agreed to choose LRT mode.
