Training of the Curriculum (K-13) e-Rapor Information System for the Teachers of Senior High School

The curriculum transformation of primary and secondary educationin Indonesia had stimulated the transformations movement of technology. Oneof these transformations was in the form of the student grade report (e-rapor) inIndonesian schools. This transformation required primary and secondary schoolteachers to be adapted to use information technology. The efforts to answer thistransformation were carried out through the technical guidance to providetraining for teachers of Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) and Sekolah MenengahKejuruan (SMK) Persada Bandar Lampung by filling out this e-Rapor. Thistraining was carried out through several main materials i.e., the applicationinstallation, the application troubleshooting, and the use of e-Rapor. Thistraining was implemented in 3 days. Moreover, the next training was alsoconducted to deal with some of the arising problems after the technical guidancewas conducted. This technical guidance was attended by 27 teachers. Thistechnical guidance was implemented by delivering material, conducting thesimulation, and doing discussion. The result of this technical guidance wasanalyzed quantitatively through observations and discussions. It showed that alltechnical guidance participants were able to fill out the e-Rapor systemaccording to their respective roles after the technical guidance implementationon filling out the e-Rapor.

KESALAHAN BERBAHASA PADA KARANGAN EKSPOSISI SISWA SEKOLAH MENENGAH ATAS: BENTUK, FAKTOR PENYEBAB, DAN UPAYA MENGATASI

<p><em>The research population was all tenth grade Social students of Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 6 Surakarta. The research method used was qualitative method using descriptive-qualitative approach. The participants of the research were one hundred thirty (130) Social students’ works. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data collection techniques were content analysis and in-depth interviewing. Data analyzing used was interactive analysis model. The followings are the conclusions of the research. First, three types of language errors in students’ exposition text are sentence error, diction error, and spelling error. Second, the most detected type of error is spelling error in which the use of comma has the highest percentage. Third, the casual factors of language error were as follow: the students know less about writing principles; the students have less motivation to read; the students tend to emphasize the idea rather than writing principle; the students tend to be lazy to do editing before submitting their works; the class condition is not supportive; and the students are demanded to write structurally correct. Fourth, some efforts done to minimize language error: teachers give clarification immediately when they notice language error; cross-reading among students before submitting their works; and more writing activities in class.</em></p>

STRATEGY IMPROVES THE NUMBER OF NEW STUDENTS IN SEKOLAH MENENGAH ATAS NEGERI 1 GETASAN THROUGH ISHIKAWA DIAGRAM APPROACH (FISHBONE)

The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence the interests of prospective students to register at Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) Negeri 1 Getasan. The technique used in this research is to analyze and process the data based on Ishikawa diagram techniques. The results of this study were to determine the strategies that were formulated including: (1) Implementing additional learning and tutoring for students who have prominent academic potential;(2) Developing a local curriculum on entrepreneurship related to food processing subjects such as making geplak waluh; (3) Completing classroom facilities; (4) Optimizing Multimedia and Computer laboratories by organizing their use for Junior High School that do not yet have facilities; (5) Enacting policies that take into account the economic capabilities of surrounding communities for children who attend SMA Negeri 1 Getasan; (6) Implementing policies by considering cross-subsidies especially for students whose parents come from the environment around the school; (7) Establishing better cooperation with the community around the school, especially with regard to certain events; and (8) Scheduling activities targeting junior high school students such as the Festival Band for junior high school or holding an open house on high school anniversaries.

Using problem-based worksheet on human reproductive system for improving student thinking skills

The aims of this study were to determine (1) the effect of Problem-based Student Worksheet on Human Reproductive Systems upon students’ Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and (2) to analise the contribution of Problem-based Student Worksheet on students’ HOTS. This classroom research used non-equivalent control group design. Population of students involved in this study was approximately 252 grade XI Math and Science students (MIA) from the public senior highschool at Pati, Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 2 Pati in the second semester of the academic year 2016/2017. Students as research sample were collected by purposive sampling technique, by which MIA 4 students were chosen either as the treated group or the control one. Score of students’ HOTS as dependent variables were collected by written tests consisting of 10 free-response questions. The other dependent variable, namely the scores of problem-solving skills, were measured by questionaires provided by the Problem-based Student Worksheet, administered only for the treated class. Data obtained were analyzed using t-test and correlation test. The findings showed that the Problem-based Student Worksheet affected the students’ HOTS (coefficient value of 0.809). In sum the higher score of problem-solving skills was the higher score of students’ HOTS.

Students’ view of mathematics in general high school and vocational high school

Much of the current debate among researchers revolves around the differences on the view of mathematics in secondary schools. The present research is concerned with the issue of whether or not students’ view of mathematics in secondary schools in terms of the type of schools’ factors are different between general high schools (Sekolah Menengah Atas referred to as SMA) and vocational high schools (Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan referred to as SMK) or not in the Riau province - Indonesia. This research involved a total of 276 secondary school students, 131 students from SMA and 145 students from SMK. A survey design was employed to investigate the students’ view of mathematics among secondary school students using the questionnaire. The quantitative data was statistically analyzed using MANOVA. Findings of this study indicated that a one-way MANOVA analysis revealed a significant multivariate main effect for SMK and SMA. It was concluded that SMK had a more positive view than SMA. SMK had a higher effort, mastery of goal orientation and self-confidence. These findings imply that teacher should consider students’ view of mathematics to present the most suitable learning strategy which can be imposed for students in order to boost their mathematics achievement

Developing interactive questions to measure the higher-order thinking skills of senior high schools’ students

The traditional assessments which only covered lower-order thinking skills are still commonly used by teachers in Palembang. Yet the 21st-Century education demands the empowerment of higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). The objective of this study was to find out the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of interactive questions in measuring students' HOTS. The research and development applied was 4-D model which included four stages (define, design, develop and disseminate). The study was conducted on the tenth graders of SMAN (Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri-State Senior High School) 4 Palembang, and SMAN 9 Palembang, in the even semester of academic year 2018/2019. The instruments of data collection were validation sheets and interactive questions. The data analysis techniques used were Microsoft Excel 2010 and WINSTEPS version 3.73.0. In conclusion, the study showed that: 1) the expert validation results were very high category; 2) the instrument was considered as good by teacher responses; and 3) the interactive questions were effective in measuring students’ HOTS.

AN ANALYSIS OF POLITENESS STRATEGIES USED BY TEACHER AND STUDENTS OF X IBB IN SMAN 1 SUKASADA DURING ENGLISH CLASSROOM INTERACTION

This study aims to (1) analyzing the types of politeness strategies used by teachers and students of Class X in Ilmu Budaya dan Bahasa (IBB) in Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 1 Sukasada during English classroom interaction; (2) analyzing the factors that influence the choice of politeness strategies. This study was designed as a qualitative descriptive study. The data that has been obtained was analyzed based on the theory of politeness Brown and Levinson's strategy. The results of this study indicated that (1) there were three types of Brown and Levinson politeness strategies used by teachers and students namely bald on record, positive politeness, and negative politeness; (2) as for the factors that influencing the choice of politeness strategies are payoffs: as a prior consideration, circumstances: social variables, and integration of the assessment of payoffs and the weight of the risk of choosing politeness strategies.

The Development and Implementation of Learning Material on Exposition Text to Improve Students’ Achievement on Bahasa Indonesia

The development and implementation of learning material on exposition text with a process for Senior High School (SHS) students on the teaching of Bahasa Indonesia is reported. The study is aimed to develop a learning material on exposition text with a process to be used as a learning media on the teaching of writing in Bahasa Indonesia. The study is carried out at state senior high school (Sekolah Menengah Atas, SMA) Medan, Indonesia at academic year 2017/2018. The learning material is developed by enriching the topics with exposition text to meet the competence required by national curriculum in Indonesia. The learning material has been used as a media the teaching and learning activities in the experimental class and compared with ordinary book that has been used in control class on the teaching of Bahasa Indonesia. An excellent learning material has been obtained. Implementation of the learning material in the class has change students learning style moving from teacher centred to students centred learning. The developed material was found very effective as a learning media in the teaching and learning process and be able to improve students’ achievement in Bahasa Indonesia. Students’ achievements in experimental class (M=89.63±5.32) was higher than that obtained in control class (M=77.25±5.06). The students’ writing skills are improved. Students performance in experimental class (M=86.04±6.89) was higher than that in control class (M=78.60±5.42). The learning facilities provided in the learning material are found to be effective to guide the students to improve their learning ability to write texts on exposition text with a process in Bahasa Indonesia.

Sistem Informasi Akademik Berbasis Web Pada SMAN-1 Pulau Malan Kabupaten Katingan

Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri (SMAN) 1 Pulau Malan in Katingan Regency has processed data of students and teachers using computer (Microsoft Excel application) and still manage and record the attendance list and students’ grades manually using a book. This habit is considered not effective and may cause problems in calculating students’ grades. Data searching needs much time and important documents or notes are easy to disappear. 
 This system is developed using waterfall methodology. Researcher constructs Data Flow Diagram, Entity Relationship Diagram, and designing the user interface. The functional system is tested using black box.
 The result of Web Based Academic Information is the availability of a computerized data processing of teachers, students, and academic. Teachers also can to calculate students’ grade, processing students’ presence per meeting, showing students’ grade, downloading subject material, showing school’s schedule and processing data account such as changing password and taking a self picture.

PREVALENCE OF ACADEMIC STRESS AMONG MEDICAL AND PHARMACEUTICAL STUDENTS

Prevalence of academic stress among university students has been high across the world. Most studies on such topic have been conducted in limited population, particularly in the students of medical faculty and the publicly secular-based university. The present study was carried out on students at the department of medicine and department of pharmacy, the Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, Indonesia. This study was aimed to describe the level of academic stress prevalence among the students as well as its difference based on demographics, including department, gender, and previous education backgrounds. This study involved 72 students as participants. The results indicated that the prevalence of academic stress reached 61% in the medical students and 48.4% in the pharmaceutical students. Meanwhile, there were no significant differences in the level of prevalence in terms of department, gender, and educational background ( P > .05). Academic stress was experienced by the students of various departments, from the differing previous education background, i.e., the Public Senior High School ( Sekolah Menengah Atas ), Islamic Senior High School ( Madrasah Aliyah ), and Islamic Boarding School ( Pesantren ), both the males and females. A high prevalence of academic stress among students at the Islamic university should draw more attention and call for special intervention from the unit of guidance and counseling service. The Model of Learning Design based on Islamic Multicultural Education to Prevent Conflicts of Behavior

This paper presents the form of multicultural conflict at SMA ( Sekolah Menengah Atas /Senior High School) Kartini Regency of Rokan Hilir Riau, the supporting and inhibiting factors in application of the multicultural curriculum and design of learning model for multicultural-based PAI ( Pendidikan Agama Islam /Islamic Education) to put down the conflicts among students. The research was a research and development (R&D) with qualitative approach. Research and development were conducted up to hypothetical phase. The research subjects were the teachers of PAI, Chemistry, and PKN ( Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan /Civic Education). Each of subject teacher was one person, and the number of participating students were 34 people. Data collection technique was conducted by observation, interview, questionnaire, and documentation. Qualitative data processing encompassesed data collection, reduction, presentation, and verification. Based on the research results, there were conflicts at SMA Kartini caused by individual differences, interest differences, cultural and social changes. The supporting factor in application of multicultural curriculum was that all stakeholders at SMA Kartini still have tolerant attitude which can be developed and directed and the teachers at SMA Kartini have inclusive attitude. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors in application of multicultural curriculum at SMA Kartini were the minimum facilities and infrastructure, lack of information services, and lack of supervision towards students.

Islamic Education at Multicultural Schools

This article aims to explain the roles of PAI ( Pendidikan Agama Islam /Islamic Education) at multicultural schools. It was the results of the field research by using a qualitative method. The research was conducted at SMA ( Sekolah Menengah Atas /Senior High School) Plus Pembangunan Jaya Bintaro Tangerang. The school was selected because its students had diversity of backgrounds, and the school had committed to develop the multicultural insights. Data of research were obtained through interview, observation, and documentation. The results showed that PAI had the roles as the pluralism moral activator to students. PAI was applied in the educational process to form students’ multicultural attitude and thought. There were two underlying findings, namely: type of inclusive educators and design of multicultural curriculum.

Development Strategy of Pedagogical Competence to Improve Professionalism of Islamic Education Teacher

The purpose of this study is to analyze the pedagogical competence of PAI ( Pendidikan Agama Islam/ Islamic education) teachers, the school’s strategies to develop PAI teacher’s pedagogical competence, the factors that inhibit school strategies, and the evaluation conducted by SMAN 3 ( Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri /Senior High School) 3 Tasikmalaya, Indonesia toward the implementation of the strategies. The research method used is qualitative descriptive which reveals phenomenon holistically and contextually. Data were collected by observation, interview, and documentation. Qualitative descriptive data were analyzed by arranging and classifying the data, thus providing a real picture to the reader. The study conclude that the teachers had already good pedagogical competence, like the ability to understand the diversity of learners, to prepare lesson plans and strategies, to create active, creative, effective, and fun learning, and to evaluate students’ learning outcomes. The school had employed strategy to develop PAI teacher’s pedagogical competence such as developing teachers regularly every month, involving teachers in various scientific activities, improving the welfare of teachers and educational facilities, supervising, monitoring and evaluating the performance of teachers by providing guidance, giving rewards to outstanding teachers. Thus, the factors inhibited the teachers’ pedagogical competence development were two kinds, internal and external factor.

Effectiveness of Print and Audiovisual Media in Breast Cancer Education to High-School Students

Background : Breast cancer education could be a non-formal education to achieve a proper understanding about early detection of breast cancer. Optimal results need right methods and instruments. Recently, technology development can be implemented to support the non-formal education process. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness between print and audiovisual media in health education on prevention and early detection of breast cancer. Methods : It was a quasi-experimental study, comparing two intervention and one control groups, which was carried out from August to November 2013. The population was senior high school students in Jatinangor subdistrict West Java, Indonesia. The sample was taken by cluster sampling method; each group consisted of 120 female students. Students from Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri Jatinangor were given printed media, students from Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Padjadjaran were given audiovisual media and students from Pesantren Al Ma’soem as control group were not given any intervention. The knowledge of respondents was measured with pre-test and post-test questioner. Mean scores of knowledge were further analyzed by paired and independent t-test. Results : The average of pre-test between intervention and control groups were similar (8.125, 8.725 and 8.450, respectively). The result showed that the average scores of post-test increased compared to pre-test both in the print and audiovisual media group (p=0.001). Conclusions : Print and audiovisual media can increase the knowledge of respondents on prevention and early detection of breast cancer. However, audiovisual media is more effective as a tool for health education especially among teenagers.

PELAKSANAAN FUNGSI ADMINISTRATOR KEPALA SEKOLAH MENENGAH ATAS NEGERI 10 KOTA PADANG

This research based on the lack of effectiveness of the administrator function of the Principal Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri (SMAN) 10 Padang. This research is designed to reveal teachers perception on the implementation administrator function of principal, which will be seen from: 1) teachers perception about implementation administrator function of principal of SMAN 10 Padang related to curriculum administration, 2) teachers perception about implementation administrator functionof principal of SMAN 10 Padang related to personnel administration, 3) teacher perception about implementation administrator function of principal of SMAN 10 Padang related to school facilities and infrastructure administration, and 4) teacher perception about implementation of administrator function of the principal of SMAN 10 Padang related to financial administration. This descriptive research with the population of all teachers who have the Civil Servants status at SMAN 10 Padang with the number to 61 people. Sample of this research amounted to 36 people, taken using the formula Cohran. Sampling technique is based on stratified proportional random sampling. The tool used for data collection is a questionnaire that has been tested for its validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using percentage and average formulas. The results of this research indicated that the general perception of teachers on the implementation of administrator function of the principal is in category good with an average score of 3.87. Furthermore, teachers perceptions regarding to the implementation of curriculum administration, personnel administration, facilities and infrastructure administration and financial administration are (4.19, 3.63, 3.86 and 3.81), respectively, where the whole is in good category

Knowledge and Attitude of Senior High School Students in Jatinangor towards Sexually Transmitted Infections in 2013

Background : Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are major health problem. Until today, the prevalence of STIs is still high and the incidence is increasing. Almost half of STIs new cases occur in adolescents andyoung adults. It is assumed that there is a positive correlation of knowledge about STIs with attitude and practices; therefore, giving proper information of STIs to adolescents could influence their safe sexual practices, and further, it can prevent STIs to occur. The objective of this study is to discover knowledge and attitude of senior high school students in Jatinangor towards STIs. Methods : This descriptive study was conducted in Sekolah Menengah Atas Persatuan Guru Republik Indonesia (SMA PGRI) Jatinangor and Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri (SMAN) Jatinangor from May to September 2013. Questionnaires were completed by 278 respondents selected by stratified cluster random sampling. Results : More than half respondents had poor knowledge about STIs (56.5%) while 53.2% of the respondents had positive attitude towards STIs. Most mentioned choices as the information source of STIs were teacher (66.5%), followed by television/radio (45.3%), friends (37.8%), newspaper/magazine (21.2%), mother (16.2%), sibling (7.2%), and father (6.5%). Conclusions : More detail information about STIs is needed by adolescents as a way to encourage safe sexual practices. Teacher and parents are expected to be the source information of STIs while mass media can also be used to educate adolescents. THE USE OF COMMUNITY LANGUAGE LEARNINGMETHOD TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ACHIEVEMENT

This study is aimed at improving the second grade of students’ speakingachievement by using Community Language Learning (CLL) Method. Theresearch was conducted by applying classroom action research. The subject of this study was second grade of Private Senior High School (Sekolah Menengah Atas Swasta) of Dwi Tunggal Tanjung Morawa which consisted of 31 students. To collect the data, the instruments used were primary data (SpeakingTest) and secondary data (interview sheet, observation sheet, field notes). It can be seen from the score in test I, test II and test III. In the Test I, the mean of the students’score was (64.77), in the Test II was (71.35), and the mean of the students’ score of the Test III was (80.90). Based on the interview, and observation sheet, it shows that the expression and excitement of the students got improved as well. It was found that teaching of speaking by using Community Language Learningcould significantly improve students’ speaking achievement.Key Words: Community Language Learning, Method, Improvement, Speaking Achievement

IMPROVING STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT IN READING COMPREHENSION THROUGH NATURAL APPROACH

This study deals with improving stuudents’ achievement in reading comprehension through natural approach. The objective of this study is to iinvestigate whether there is any significant improvement of the students’ achievement in reading comprehension when it is taught by using natural approach. The subject of the study was Grade XI students of Nasrani 3 Private Senior High School (Sekolah Menengah Atas Swasta Nasrani 3) Medan. There were thirty one students. They were taught by using Natural Approach. The instrument for data collection were teacher made test, observation sheet and questionaire. The techniques of data analysis applied were quantitative and qualitative. In analysing the data, the students were given three reading tests namely, Orientation Test, Test Cycle I and Test Cycle II. The mean of the students’ score for the first reading test as Orientation test was 51.61 the second reading test as Cycle I test was 66.61 and the third reading test as Cycle II test was 76.61. The total percentage of the improvement from the first reading test to the third was 77.41%. the conclusion is that the procedures of natural approach can improve the students’ achievement in reading comprehension. The qualitative data shows that the students were enthusiastic and interested in reading comprehension. It is suggested that teachers should apply Natural Approach as one of the media in improving students’ achievement in reading comprehension.

IMPROVING GRADE X STUDENTS’ SPEAKING COMPETENCE IN REPORTING A PROCEDURE TEXT BY USING VIDEO

This study was carried out to discover students’ speaking competence in reporting a procedure text by using video. It was a Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject was students of Grade X, State Senior High School (Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri: SMAN) 5 Binjai, which consisted of 42 students. The research was conducted in two cycles and each cycle consisted of three meetings. The instruments used to collect the data were speaking tests as quantitative data and Observation Sheet, Interview, Questionnaire, and Diary Notes as qualitative data. The results of the speaking tests showed that the students’ score improved in every test. The mean of the students’ score in Orientation test was 51.17, the mean of the students’ score in Cycle I was 69.05, and the mean in Cycle II was 80.31. The mean score in Cycle II was the highest, so it can be said that the students’ speaking competence improved from 51.17 to 80.31. Based on the Observation Sheet, Interview, Questionnaire, and Diary Notes, it was found that the teaching-learning process ran well. The findings of the study indicate that using Video significantly improved the students’ speaking competence. So, English teachers are suggested to use Video in order to improve the students’ speaking competence in reporting a procedure text.
