Study was carried out to find out the role of women in dairy based farming system of villages of Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh State. Simple questionnaire was prepared for the interview of respondents. Majority of women were dependent on animal husbandry and dairying they almost performed all the duties of the occupation. However, due to poor social and economic conditions of farm women, their share were not allotted in decision making like marketing of animals and other finance related activities. Their knowledge status regarding animal health and veterinary services was very poor, most of them were not aware about technical information. It was felt that extension agencies should come forward to strengthen women's role in the occupation. Dairy and animal husbandry are the major component of farming system as well as rural economy as they provide employment and economic support to the rural families not only for those who are having land but also to land less families. This important job is generally performed by women. Although, women contribution is not new in the agriculture related work, but they are still invisible worker and remain marginalized in decision making process and several income related issues. Animal husbandry and dairying is one of the major parts of farming system and the occupation like milking, feeding, preparation of milk products and animal care are generally performed by women. Therefore, present study has been conducted in the district Sehore of Madhya Pradesh. During the Kharif season, wheat straw and Bajra are the prominent fodders available to the animals. Buffaloes are mainly reared for milk purposes while ploughing operations are done by bullocks. The aim of study was to find out the involvement of women in different activities of animal husbandry and dairying, constraints faced during performing the job, their knowledge level about improved technology and measures for their active participation in animal husbandry and dairying and decision making.
